We're here at La Gedo dos Beijoflores. This is a huge area that was built as a reserve by a couple
who live here. They've planted flowers to attract hummingbirds. They have hummingbird feeders,
and one of the birds that they attract is the ruby topaz. The ruby topaz hummingbird is
undeniably one of the most beautiful hummingbirds in existence. With its ruby red crown and nape
and its golden orange yellow breast, it shines like a jewel in the sun. His tail is chestnut
with dark tips, and he seems to love spreading that tail. The female has a pale gray chest and
abdomen. The head and back are pale greenish copper. The central tail feather is olive green,
and the others are rufous colored. The ruby topaz is found from Panama, south through Colombia,
and west through Venezuela, the Guianas, Suriname, and throughout eastern and central Brazil,
touching eastern Bolivia. In the summer, it can be found in Trinidad, Tobago, and the ABC Islands.
What a gorgeous place! Wonderful flowers, wonderful hummingbirds. We've been having a
great time photographing and videoing. This place is a paradise for many species of hummingbirds
we've seen before here in Brazil and in other countries in South America. Great day of filming
here at these beautiful gardens. We got lots of pictures and video of the resident hummingbirds,
including the new species for us, the ruby topaz.
