DC Super Friends Hawaiian Ice Mystery
An emergency alarm rang in the Hall of Justice control room.
Aquaman popped up on a monitor.
Super Friends!
He called out.
Red alert! Dolphins have spotted something strange near the coast of Hawaii.
Said Aquaman.
It's an iceberg. It should melt in the warm ocean, but it's growing larger.
We're on our way, said Batman.
An iceberg growing near Hawaii can only mean one thing.
Mr. Freeze is on the loose.
The Flash took off running from the Hall of Justice.
He crossed the United States and ran across the ocean to Hawaii in only a few minutes.
Green Lantern and Superman used their powers to fly.
Batman and Robin followed in their supersonic Batwing.
The Flash kept running across the Pacific Ocean.
He reached the Hawaiian Islands and stopped on the shore nearest the iceberg.
Aquaman swam to the surface to meet the Flash on a beach.
The iceberg is still growing, he reported,
and the water is getting colder every second.
We need to stop the ice now, said Aquaman,
or Hawaii's reefs will be destroyed forever.
The freezing water will also wreck the planet's weather.
Let's find out what I can see, said Superman.
He flew up above the iceberg and scanned the depths of the Pacific Ocean with his X-ray vision.
There's ice all the way down to a deep, deep trench, Superman reported.
That's where Mr. Freeze must be hiding.
Aquaman zoomed down under the ocean
to see if he could get a first-hand report from the deep-sea creatures,
but they were busy swimming away.
Finally, Aquaman found a giant squid escaping from the icy trench.
Aquaman asked the squid what happened.
Someone built a huge fortress where my house was.
Back above, Aquaman surfaced to see Batman and Robin arriving in the Batwing.
Robin swooped low and dropped Batman from the Batwing in a sleek, fast Batboat.
Aquaman and the Flash joined Batman on the Batboat as it neared the iceberg.
Superman and Green Lantern flew above.
We need to work underwater, Aquaman told his friends.
Green Lantern created a bubble with his power ring.
It would keep the Flash alive in the deep ocean.
Batman got into his own underwater gear, the Bat-Sub.
The Flash was safe in his bubble, and Batman was in his Bat-Sub.
They traveled down with Superman, Aquaman, and Green Lantern to the trench's entrance.
It was very dark under the water.
Green Lantern's light illuminated the trench.
The Super-Friends could see perfectly.
This way, Aquaman said, following his squid friends' directions.
Almost there, Aquaman called.
The Super-Friends swam deeper down through the frozen tunnels.
The twisting ice walls were eerie.
Finally, the Super-Friends reached the bottom of the deep trench.
They found a jagged fortress with a freeze cannon on top.
It was turning the ocean to ice.
We must destroy that ice cannon, said Aquaman.
It's ruining the delicate balance of the ocean and harming warm water creatures.
Let's give Mr. Freeze a chance to surrender peacefully, said Batman.
I'll contact him.
He tapped into the fortress's system with his handheld computer.
Mr. Freeze, growled Batman.
Stop this icy madness and give yourself up.
I hate warmth and it's getting too hot, said Mr. Freeze.
So I'm making a new ice cap.
Here, near Hawaii, I'll put an end to global warming and start global cooling.
That's crazy, said the Flash.
Then the ice cannon swiveled and fired at Green Lantern, coating him in ice.
The bubble he had made started to fizzle.
The Flash might get hurt if the bubble popped.
Superman melted the ice around Green Lantern with his heat vision.
In seconds, Green Lantern repaired the bubble.
His friend was safe.
Superman dodged another icy blast.
Enough, he said.
He slammed his fist into the ground, opening up a steaming lava tube.
Magma started melting the fortress.
The ice cannon froze the magma, holding the fortress together.
Aquaman called to whales and dolphins.
The creatures swam down and attacked.
They bashed the cannon to bits.
Superman grabbed Mr. Freeze.
We need ice caps to keep nature's balance, Batman scolded.
But a new ice cap in Hawaii isn't the answer.
The creatures here need warm water to survive.
While Superman melted the iceberg with his heat vision,
Green Lantern hauled Mr. Freeze to Arkham Asylum.
Surf's up, said Robin, and the ocean is safe again.
