Alan travels from Taiwan to South Africa to reunite with his son, William, after 210 days apart. The journey takes him from Taoyuan International Airport through Hong Kong and finally to Pretoria, South Africa. Along the way, Alan shares facts about aviation and celebrates reaching one million total views on his YouTube channel before the emotional reunion.
September the 3rd 2017 and today April 1st 2018. 210 very long days since I last saw
my boy William. And the day has finally arrived where I get to make the long journey across
the world to South Africa. Get my hands back on my boy. First things first let's get on
the HSR Gautier high speed train. Let's get ourselves from Taichung. Let's get up to the
airport. Let's go. Boom. And just like that we've arrived at Taipei Airport also known
locally as Taoyuan International Airport after the town that it's actually located in. About
25-30 minutes driving from Taipei City itself. Anyway if you are new here welcome to the
channel. My name is Alan and I live and work here in the beautiful country of Taiwan. And
this channel is all about my life here. But today we are leaving the country. We are getting out of
the country as my son William who lives in South Africa. And I visit him maybe twice a year. And
as I said a minute ago today is the day where we travel to see him. So I'm gonna take you with me
if that's okay. And I also want to say to my team VVVIP a huge thank you for all of the love and
support you give me in the comments section. I know you are equally as excited to see me with
William as I am to see him. So once again thank you so much to all of you for all of the beautiful
support. I really hope you're excited as I am to come on this trip to South Africa. So with that
being said let's go get checked in. Let's get a coffee and a chat. Nice coffee. Okay so while we're
at the airport waiting for our flight I guess it'd be a shame if we didn't do at least a little bit
of learning. So let me tell you a few things about this airport. It's actually one of five
international airports in Taiwan. And it was opened back in 1979 after the main airport in
Taipei Taipei Songshan Airport basically outgrew itself. And because of its location in the city
couldn't expand any further. It was contained within the city limits. So this airport was
built here in Taoyuan. And it actually continued to grow and expand. Passenger numbers increased
and increased. And in 2000 they opened the second terminal. And numbers continued to increase. And
actually in 2016, which are the only figures I can find, 42 million passengers came through Taoyuan
International Airport. And that made it the 10th busiest airport in terms of passenger numbers. And
in fact it's actually sixth biggest in the world in terms of freight coming in and out of the
country. And as it continues to grow and grow and Taiwan becomes more and more popular with tourists
and more people come in and out of Taiwan, they are actually adding a third terminal which will
open in 2020. So this airport is only going to get bigger and hopefully more and more of you
overseas will come use this airport when you come to visit and see how beautiful is Taiwan.
Okay so one more interesting fact before we go through immigration, get onto the flight, is that
the flight that I'm taking first today from Taoyuan International Airport to Hong Kong International
Airport, it's about a two hour flight but it is the most popular, most commonly flown flight in
the world with 5 million passengers making the journey every year. 250 flights a week make the
journey from Taoyuan International to Hong Kong. The learning really never stops on my channel. Let's
get ourselves up and out of here. Let's get through immigration. Let's go. That was awesome. Nice little
rest. Time to get on the plane. Hong Kong, here we come. Excitement is starting to build now for
seeing William. I think we've got about 18 hours until we're there. Cannot wait. Let's go get on
the first flight. Let's go to Hong Kong. Yes, we have made it from the 10th busiest airport in the
world to the third busiest airport in the world, Hong Kong. And we have to wait here for 8 hours
before our 13 hour journey to Johannesburg. Now, I know my team VVVIP, I know you wouldn't mind and
you would wait with me if you had to, but there's no way I'm going to make this video any longer
than it needs to be as I know the reason everyone is here. I know what you came here to see. You came
here just to see me with my arms around William and I'm not going to make you wait too long to
see it. In fact, if I take out my magic lens cleaning cloth, give the lens a bit of a clean,
I can actually skip through that arduous wait and that tediously long journey
and we can travel to South Africa.
Yes, with one wipe of the camera lens, we have traveled across Asia, across the Indian Ocean,
across Madagascar, 11,000 kilometers, 6,000 miles and we have arrived in South Africa.
And we're currently on the Goud train that takes us from the airport up to William's home city of
Pretoria and we are going to be arriving in literally just minutes. Yes, I saved you all of
that long journey. Get to the exciting part. We're going to see William anytime soon. One little thing
that I do want to say before we get there, it doesn't seem so important now at this moment,
but while I was on the plane, I just checked my YouTube. We hit over 1 million views in total.
Unbelievable. William is going to be so excited to hear that news too.
1 million views. Thanks so much guys. Almost pulling into the station now.
I'm going to get myself ready, get off the train, go see William.
Okay, so we're finally here. William is going to be at the top of these stairs.
Don't really have any words. Don't really have any words. Let's just go and see him.
Let's see if he's there. Can you hear him?
What are we going to do now? Okay, I've got a good idea, right? Right. If anybody wants to
write a message on YouTube to William, you can write them a message back, okay? Okay. Is that
a good idea? Yes. Okay, so if anybody has a message for William, write it in the comments below and
William will reply, not me, okay? Okay. Okay, now what you have to do is, right, you have to say,
see you next time in my life in South Africa. See you next time in my life in South Africa.
Where are we? Who are we waiting for? Look at me. Who are we waiting for?
Where is he coming from?
What are we going to say? Welcome to South Africa, Daddy.
