Hey guys, we are in Nara, which is near Osaka in Honshu, Japan, and this is Todaiji Temple,
which is one of the more famous places in Japan. This is actually the outer gate of the temple.
A couple of Buddhist characters there, very big as you can see in relation to the people
walking past. So Todaiji was built 1200 years ago and is surrounded by some very nice gardens
and parks with deer running around and lots of nice trees and very very beautiful place.
So this is the second gate that's actually the main big gate into the grounds themselves,
into the temple grounds. Usually the visitors are fed in through a side gate,
so the main gate there is you can see the entrance and you just go around to the side to get in,
come in through the side and you see this, which is the largest wooden structure in the world.
So if you look at the people at the bottom there, it gives you a bit of a perspective on how big it
actually is. So apparently this structure has been damaged by fire a couple of times since it was
first built 1200 years ago, so different parts of it have been rebuilt. But an amazing place,
just an absolutely awe-inspiring place. And then inside that building is actually the largest
indoor Buddha in the world. So you won't see a bigger Buddha inside a building than this one.
So it's made of bronze, it was originally covered in gold as well, but doesn't seem to be anymore,
seems to be just the bronze left. But a very special place, amazing place, great atmosphere
in this place, it really is very special. Huge wooden pillars, you can see they're holding up
the building, quite spectacular. So it's definitely one of the high points in Japan, if you travel to
Japan it's definitely a places worth looking at. Inside the structure too, not just the big Buddha,
there's also these other statues as well that are also huge in their own right. So I'll put a link
under this video for anybody who's traveling to Japan, we'll put it on the English Friendly
Directory because it is, they give out brochures in English there and ticket sales are in English, so
it's an English Friendly place. We'll put it on the English Friendly Directory under
Attractions and we'll also put a link to it under this video.
Quite amazing isn't it? So they're actually made of wood, that one, that one and the other one
that we showed just before that, made of wood. Appeared as if they were actually covered in
gold originally, but the gold seems to have flaked away I guess. Aren't they amazing?
So that was Todaiji Temple in Japan. More videos coming soon.
