Zen Honeycutt thank you so much for being with us at NTD today. So to start
off for our viewers maybe at home who don't know much about you could you
please just give us a short your story how you came to be with Moms Across
America and how you got involved in this movement. Yeah great I'm I'm a mom just
like millions of moms out there struggle I was struggling with my children's
health issues, life-threatening allergies, over 20 different allergies
each one of my three boys had autism one of them had autism symptoms,
autoimmune issues, asthma at one point and my husband and I were completely
baffled as to why this was happening we thought it can't just be our children
there's got to be something else going on and so I looked into the food supply
I learned about GMOs genetically modified organisms and glyphosate and I
learned that our food supply had been changed at that point it was 17 years
ago now it's been 30 years that genetically modified foods were
introduced into our food without labeling and 80% of them are engineered
to withstand glyphosate which is also known as Roundup it's a an herbicide
that is sprayed on the crops and it kills the weeds but because the crops
are genetically modified they survive and the weeds die it's also sprayed as a
drying agent on crops before harvest such as wheat, peas, beans, legumes, lentils
and so Americans are consuming and our export partners are consuming glyphosate
at much higher levels than ever anticipated before and that pesticide is
actually you know an herbicide is an endocrine disruptor or carcinogen a
nervous system affects the nervous system the neurological system liver and
kidney disease so I learned all these things about the food supply as I was
researching what had happened to our food and I decided to create an
organization first it was just an event Moms Across America March to label GMOs
in 4th of July parades back in 2013 and we had 179 groups that joined in the
4th of July parades which are family-friendly fun they're not a
protest right they're accessible they're easy they're affordable and we reached
thousands locally and millions nationally in a single day and we went on
to have 600 leaders create over 1,000 events in all 50 states so since then we
know we became a nonprofit we've reached hundreds of millions of people and what
we're sharing is that when our children and our family members switch to organic
food and avoid GMOs and toxic pesticides we get better our health improves and so
we think everybody should have access to non-toxic nutrient-dense food and we'll
continue to raise awareness about many issues that impact our families and how
they can improve their health and what is the relationship between Moms Across
America and your work and the Maha movement more broadly as we're seeing
this enter the the political sphere maybe more and more well I would I would
sort of classify what's happening now with the Maha movement as Moms Across
America and several other food groups and many other health freedom groups you
know medical freedom mothers and parents that wanted just the right to be able to
vaccinate their child or not right to be able to choose those two groups the
health freedom and the food advocacy groups are like the tidal wave that is
now impacting America regarding health and freedom and Maha is like the crest
right like there are many of our moms that have been doing this for 20 or 30
years that they didn't call themselves Maha back then but now you know they're
being classified as Maha so we're super excited that the Maha movement has sort
of moved into the White House and the Hill I've never seen that in my lifetime
where a grassroots group has sort of become adopted and accepted by an
administration
