At the moment, we'd like to show you this beautiful Weller soldering iron that we use every day in our videos. The Weller adjustable temperature irons work better than cheaper ones because they attempt to keep the tip at a certain temperature, and are a higher wattage. This helps you get nice solder joints and makes it easy to do repairs.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is Joe's Classic Video Games back with another really cool arcade game
video for you this evening. This is Technosis Combat Tribes in a really, I think it's in a
Taito cabinet, right? Cool cabinet, but they did something weird with the control panel,
as you can see there, but I'll show you that in a second. This came out, I believe, in about 1990
and was a little kit that they put in a bunch of stuff. It's pretty fun.
You have three guys. This guy's kind of like average strength and average speed.
This guy's real strong, but real slow. This guy's real fast, but not that strong,
and so I don't know which one this, I don't know what Taito game this would have been originally.
It doesn't really say on the back, but they've covered it with laminate, so they put this red
laminate all over the sides over whatever the original design was. I can't,
sometimes you can tell by the color of the cabinet what Taito game it was, but not on this one.
They've covered it with laminate and then, of course, put the side art on it. Cool side art.
It's a little faded and a little scratched up and somebody put their name in it. I don't know
what that says, but it's a pretty clean little kit. So check out this control panel. They made
it a three-player control panel because this is a three-player game. So I was thinking,
did they not know that you could make it a two-player game by just, there's a dip switch
on the kit on the board where you can make it where it's two-player to put it in a two-player
cabinet, right? Because there'd be a little more room. If they were little kids, they could
probably all fit there to play three players at one time, but the way this is set up, not so much.
But the whole thing is they basically just have it where each guy has his own individual joystick
and buttons. So you could play a one-player game and just play this one, that one, or that one,
or a two-player game and just play these two. So you don't have to play all three at the same time,
but I guess it's not too much different because if it was set up as a two-player
you wouldn't be able to play three players at once either, so you still can't.
Maybe somebody small can. So I was thinking, did they not know that you can make it a
two-player? There's a little switch that you change on the PCB to make it a two-player,
right? And then whenever we were looking inside the cabinet, we found this. Very dusty. Notice
the Combat Tribes has been shipped in a two-player version as a factory setting.
Important. For three-player conversions, be certain to change dip switch settings as follows.
To make change, locate switch eight within the dip switch, make number two the three-player setting,
and flip to the one position. So not only did they know that it could be a two or three-player,
they purposefully made it a three-player. But kind of interesting, I guess. But other than that,
it's a real clean kit. The marquee up here is a little bit dim, but that's because of these
cabinets that just had some little tiny light bulbs on the top that lit them up. So that's a
little dark, but it probably wasn't that yellowed when it was brand new either. But we picked this
up with a whole bunch of other games in a big lot that we got out of a warehouse the other day
and decided, you know what, that's a pretty cool game. Let's fix it and keep it how it is.
So we'll read over the instructions, okay. Push the lever in the same direction twice to sprint.
That's pretty common. One button is the punch button. One button is the kick button. But on
this one, they have them blue, yellow, and red so that you can tell which guy you're picking.
Use the three items. So you have the motorcycle, the pinball machine, and the race car.
Pick the items up and throw them. These items are very powerful and can wipe out multiple enemies
at one time. So you can see the bike there. See if the guy gets it. They're not going for it,
people. Oh wait, you get the point. We'll do it here in a minute. There are three types of players.
Berserker. This guy has both speed and power. A very useful guy. That's the blue guy.
And then the second one is Bulava. It's cut off, but it's Bulava. This guy is not very fast,
but he has strength. And the third guy, I'm not sure what his name is. This guy is not very strong,
but he has speed. That's the red guy. All right. To pick the enemy up, grab him by the neck,
press the kick button, and pick him up. To throw the enemy, pick him up, press the button,
and throw him. To push the enemy away, grab him by the neck, press the punch button,
and push him away. To feet swing the enemy around, press the punch button near his feet.
Throw him toward another guy to give greatest damage. To drag the enemy up,
press the punch button near his head. And you can see down here they say double elbow head smash.
Head bash, I'm sorry. Feet swing a villain. Lift and hurl motorcycles. Okay, and up here it says,
but it's cut off. To trample over the enemy, stand a few steps away from him and press the
punch button. That's how you trample over him. To kick the enemy, go near the enemy and press the
kick button. To butt heads, grab neck and press the A and B buttons. To step over an enemy that's
on the ground, when the enemy is down on the ground, push the lever down, stand over him,
press the button to smash his something. So we're just going to try that and see.
Whenever we were young, whenever we were teenagers, we bought an arcade game and we figured out the
guy from the arcade, it was the first one we ever bought, it was a double dribble actually.
And the guy told us at the arcade, he was like, you know you can change these in other games,
right? We said, I don't know what you're talking about. He's like, this game has a jammer harness
in it so you can put other games in it. You can make it where it's a different game, you just need
to buy the game board. And so he gave us a bunch of old replay magazines and so we bought for our
double dribble, we bought a WWF Superstars board for it and then we bought this game, the Combat
Tribes. And it worked, we had it for a long time, we played it a lot because it's a pretty cool game
really. And ours got screwed up to where the sprites all disappeared. So all of the guys
disappeared. So you could still play it, but you couldn't see anybody. But this was like the third
game we ever owned, but we just had the board that we put in our cabinet. But it's a pretty
fun game. I think this was on the Super Nintendo too, so you may have played it already. But I'll
set up the tripod, we'll play through it a little bit and you can remember what the Combat Tribes
is all about. Alright folks, that music you're hearing is not from this game, it's from a
But we're going to play through this one a little bit,
if I can put a credit in it without knocking over the stand. Let's see.
Look how, look how well, look how, press, push appropriate button. What a wonderful way to say
that. So I think I'll be the blue guy because he's kind of like standard, you know what I mean?
Here we go.
Like decent strength and decent speed.
I have another button.
This has some serious Double Dragon vibes going on.
Oh, oh, deal with it. What the, what the little grabs remind me of? Did you ever play
Batman Returns for the Super Nintendo? It was like that. You could,
you could smash people against walls and stuff, throw people.
And they even had clowns on bikes in Batman Returns. Oh man, I'm already, it's already
begging me for a quarter. Can you please give a quarter? I'm not so sure. I wanted to pick him up.
I'm not so sure this fat guy. Oh, he crawls away when you try to pick him up.
I'm not so sure this fat guy can beat me up.
Oh, the demon clowns. This is all coming back to me, people.
I had this game in our cabinet whenever I was a kid.
Clown guys in the top hats. They even kind of look like the Joker,
but this was before, uh, Batman Returns. So
I guess any clown looks like the Joker, but he does have green hair and he's wearing purple.
Each, so check out how they designed the bad guys. Each one has a, uh,
see, you can't throw the clowns because they're, uh, they're, uh, you can't throw the clowns
because it, uh, they would land on their feet because they're acrobats. And the big fat guy
couldn't pick up because he's too heavy. So he crawled away whenever I tried to pick him up.
I wanted to throw him into the other guy. Oh, techno slaying people. I'd love to pick him up,
but I don't think I can. Tried. It wouldn't let me get him. Wouldn't let me get him. What's it say?
Rick dat. So it's obviously a rip off of a pin bot. It looks just like a pin bot. Rick dat.
Damn, the skating rink's a mess, people.
Isn't there a similar, uh, level in the Simpsons like this?
Oh, need more quarters. Need more quarters, people. We're in a crisis situation.
I need to, oh, I forgot about that one. I need to just keep grabbing them and spinning them.
How did I do that donkey punch on that one guy? That's what I'm trying to figure out.
Double dragon slow down. Where'd the rest of them go? Can I pick up my speakers? Lexington King.
There he is. Damn it. More of them? But I just beat you all up minutes ago.
Oh, he's the boss. Nevermind. I'm sure they're giving me all these guys so I can swing them.
Be continued. Uh-oh. I'm at the baseball stadium. The stadium barbarians.
Hero is going to die. All right, folks. So there you go. You get the picture.
The combat tribes or the combat tribes. Who knows how you're supposed to pronunciate it.
