All the action from Day 1 of the 2026 World Cup Matchday 1 Roundup

but it is that to walk in here it's almost like finding yourself engulfed in one of those world cup films, South Africa giving the ball away dangerously and I swear you're the Azteca to Acapulco you're absolutely right but what a defensive blunder this is oh it takes two minutes the heavy touch that's a terrible touch oh dear me Settoli on his left hand side wow how quick is Lira coming in how quick does Lira come in and the finish keeps it down does it get through the goalkeeper's legs it does it's Brian Gutierrez who's in was it in third was it the denial of a goal scoring opportunity and it was oh he's only chances if he gets saved by the flag and I don't think he will oh dear me what a 50 odd minutes Yaha Settoli has had you know somebody does really well Gutierrez because he cuts right across him there's nothing he can do look he tries to get the road he's actually trying to stop but the fact of the matter is he catches him down he goes and the referee there's a leg there it's because he uses his body to cut across with the ball and puts his body between the ball and the defender and he does it very well and the inevitable thing happens Quiñones, Alvarado and Raul Jimenez are most likely off to a winning start yeah it's a great goal I mean to finish the execution but I'll tell you there's a touch in this move from Quiñones John brilliant that's coming up here that touch there because it's slightly behind him and he takes it brilliantly now look at Jimenez like a proper old-fashioned centre-forward taking up the position at the back post the delivery is excellent matched only by the finish great goal that is a lovely moment for a warrior of the centre-forward who's overcome such adversity that dreadful John you think that horrendous injury that he had life-threatening never mind career-threatening wonderful moment to Anna Apollos goes one way then the other but no power or really dangerous direction in the shot now the referee here is coming across towards the VAR monitor the lengthy discussions which involve the goalkeeper Ranhel it's that challenge on Alvarado that seems to be attracting their attention there oh come on is oh dear taking an eternity to reach for his pocket as well for the second time today a South African player is red carded Temba Zouani this time the oldest player out there for Bafana Bafana Mouda we've actually got players in numbers forward here Montez makes the challenge I don't like using the term but that is a good foul because that was four against three which is an absolutely remarkable thing to say for a team that's got nine men well red card it wasn't that good that's incredible Cesar Montez sent off so we've now had three players dismissed in the opening game of the 2026 World Cup I think sometimes you go direct there's the long throw Mousseleni and now a chance for him to cross it in that's a good cross oh and Sochek attacking it just the man they want attacking it he had one in the first upset which wasn't ready for it I think that one looked a bit better for him I think he'd be disappointed with that one so the founder said another set piece it's the captain Krejci and the Czech Republic are the ones to strike in Guadalajara all the pretty football from South Korea but it's the roots that we thought would pay dividends for the Czech Republic isn't football amazing Seb it's absolutely amazing because that man has been absolutely run ragged this whole game defensively and it's him who gets on the end of a ferocious throw from Sochek so foul gets on the end of it heads his team in front well he's been a standout player for his country recently got the captaincy and he was right in place for that they may have a look at whether the goalkeeper was being impeded by a player in an offside position maybe I think it's Provod in his off position I don't think he is but oh Krejci gets the run he just picks up the flight of the ball from Sofal gets a run on the zonal defensive career and heads it into the back of the net nice strike back and it's 1-1 one of the most impressive players in the game so far he found the finish the place has erupted Seb and it's that man the best player on the pitch Juan Inbom with the moment of calm the moment of composure again sees the space runs him behind you think he's gonna shoot chops it back onto his right foot little scoop over the goalkeeper it's an incredible finish look at the disguise on that sends two of them and then it's the composure from a holding fielder to recognize he has to lift it over the goalkeeper he does it to perfection and puts his side level there's the beauty and it's Krejci chasing after it the goal scorer for Czech Republic but he couldn't get there oh what a lovely moment their 13th attempt of the match they get the luck but he created that luck he's the goal scorer for those in red receiving the pass and it's pleasure for South Korea it's those two in the midfield again Seb though look at that ball from Peik Song-ho and it's the man who scores the first goal Juan finds himself on the right wing running into space puts the perfect ball into the box just inviting Oh Heung-gu onto it and he slots it into the back of the net that's a hell of a ball from Hwang gets in front of the defender perfectly does Oh puts his side in my opinion into a deserved lead
