What is phonics?
Phonics is the way children are taught to read through listening carefully and identifying the phonemes and pronouncing the words correctly.

Through the process of teaching phonics for kids, there are some steps to be taken and which the kids will explore. The first step was known as decoding, which is related to separating the letters and mixing them in order to let the kids try to read them differently according to where they are placed (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6LWCkpSV6BI).

The letters which are used to make such an experiment are (S.A.T.P.I.N) and these letters could bring different words out to the world, such as "sat", "pin", "pat", "sit", etc. These letters are also used in the second step which is all about this video and it is known as blending.

Blending is part of understanding what phonics is, and it is actually the process of identifying individual sounds and then being able to blend these sounds together in order to read a word. This step might be hard for some children and they might find some difficulty in handling it, but parents should never worry because they will eventually get it all and will manage to blend and read, they just need a lot of practicing.

The good thing about this lesson and step of learning phonics is the fact that kids will not only learn to blend the sounds and read the words or letters, but they will also be able to write these letters down and form them.

Decoding and blending are two different steps in the process of learning the English alphabet and learning to read. The decoding is the initial part where the kids will just spell the letters individually and learn to spell the phonemes, while in the second step which is the blending, they will be taught to combine these letters together in order to bring out a word.

Practicing with the child is the most important thing because as we have mentioned before, it is not easy for the kid to learn such a thing and thus they will need assistance and will need someone to help them and keep guiding them to the right way. Parents should never lose hope and should be patient with their kids when it comes to phonics and teaching the kids to blend sounds to read.

In order to practice with the kids, parents should try to use easy and interesting techniques at the same time, such as playing some games with them. From those games which we have tried with the kids and which proved to be successful is the XO game to help them write and spell the words. There is also another game for learning to write down the letters and spell them correctly that depends on using the white crayon and colour of paint. This is one of the interesting games because it will carry a part of suspense in it since the kids will not be able to see what they are writing down or what the parents have written until they reveal the whole thing (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wmk5gY7Zb00).

Teaching the kids new lessons could happen through lots of different ways and through using lots of techniques, it will always depend on how much creative the parent or the teacher could actually get. There is one important thing parents should always pay attention to when they are teaching their kids and which is giving them the time, the freedom and the space to answer, play and be the ones leading the game, because that's how they are going to enjoy the whole thing and that's how they are going to ask for repeating the game, which will eventually help them to recognize what they have learned.

Phonics is not as easy as people think and that's why it should be taken slowly with the kids without rushing them into it all.
