AI GeneratedJoe DiMuccio, an airline pilot, documents a day in his life while on \"long call\" reserve. After a long period without flying, he is called for a round-trip flight from Tampa to San Juan. The day is split between a challenging morning run and his professional duties, highlighting the balance between his fitness routine and the unpredictable nature of airline reserve scheduling.
All right, good morning. Welcome back to another video. We got the call. I got called last night.
If you're new here, I'm Joe DiMuccio. I'm an airline pilot and I sit on call. And this month,
I'm actually doing a FDO line. I think it stands for fixed days off. And that basically allows you
to stack all of your days off and all of your days on. So this month I was off for the first 13 days,
and then I'm on call now for the last days of the month. And I'm on long call. So it's a 12 hour
call out. So they called me last night for a trip today. So they called me like around, I don't know,
like 8, 8.30 PM. And my trip, I have to be at the Tampa airport at like 2.30 this afternoon for a
San Juan turn. So we get back here. Everything goes to plan. It's on schedule. We land back in
Tampa at like 10.30 PM. So just San Juan back and done. And this morning is Saturday. So it's my long
run day. Not that long of a run, but we're doing nine miles with some speed work. And then sort of
come back, eat some food, chill out a little bit, rest, and then get ready to go to work. It's been
like 25 days since I got called. Typically on long call, you get to fly or you get called to fly a
little bit more than short call. I typically do the short call on D reserve from 5 PM to midnight,
which is a two hour call out. And they save the short call guys basically for those last
minute scenarios, considering it was a two hour call out and they'll use the long call guys first.
If somebody, you know, calls in sick or they need somebody and they have enough time to basically
give you that trip. So, you know, it's pretty nice. Like I can be out on the boat. I can be doing
anything and know that I'm not going to be flying at least for 12 hours. So it brings the stress
down a little bit on the days. And, uh, so I've been enjoying it honestly, and I still haven't
been flying all that much, which if you don't know, you still get paid. So even though I haven't
flown for the last 25 days, I still get paid a salary. It's minimum pay, 75 hours per month,
still decent money. And it allows me to obviously do a lot of other things. But anyway, we're starting
off the day with some carbs, electrolytes, just rolled out of bed. Obviously you can see
I got some good little head hair going, bad head going and my brain's not working, but we got some
G1M Plus, caffeine as well in this one. So you got electrolytes, carbohydrates, and some caffeine
and some nootropics. So it kind of acts as my morning coffee. I didn't make coffee this morning.
And then we have the new flavor, Go Bar Apple Cinnamon. So good. This is really good. I love
the OG flavor, but this thing just crushes that in terms of taste, I think, but they both taste
really good. This is just like obviously new to me, but yeah, it's like a maple cinnamon oatmeal,
but just like even better. I don't even know. So I usually do carbs, electrolytes. I'll probably
do some more electrolytes as well. And then a bunch of water and yeah, we'll kind of absorb
that, digest that for about 30 minutes and then we'll go hit this nine mile run. So join along.
We're going to get this workout in and then go fly to San Juan and back. Should be a beautiful day.
I mean, it is gorgeous out right now. If I didn't get called, I think I was going to go on the boat
again, but that's all right. I went on the boat like the last couple of days or whatever. You
can't go on the boat every day and get paid. So it is what it is, but let's do it. It's going to be
a good day. Some days you feel good and some days you feel terrible. Today is one of those days.
I am drenched, super hot. Can't get my heart rate to come down. I'm like seven, a little over seven
miles into this run. And I am just absolutely, every half a mile, I feel like I need to just
take a break. One of the worst runs I've had in a very long time. I mean, I'm foaming. Like my sweat
is insane. I mean, look at this, like two and a half miles in. I was drenched and I can feel my socks
sloshing. Like your socks are just soaking wet, sloshing around in your shoes. I'm just fatigued.
I don't even know. I got a good night's sleep. Drink a decent amount of water with electrolytes.
10 miles done, 8.58 average pace. That run turned into pure survival. Oh my gosh. I started
walking 0.1 and running 0.1 for the last like over a mile. I couldn't believe how hard that was. I
think I'm just going to chalk it up to being a bad day. We'll get them next time. All right,
free flight done. First leg to San Juan, second leg back here to Tampa. Probably cap this leg there
and then hopefully my leg back. Or either one, doesn't matter. As long as I get one. I just,
I haven't landed in like a month. So excited to fly. It's been a while. Let's do it. Beautiful
day. A little bit windy, but just a few clouds. Overall, really nice day. Super hot though. It's
like 90 degrees out here. What's up guys? Christian here, a flight attendant. Going to San Juan
tonight. Christian said, are you making a video tonight? I was like, yep, absolutely. I gotta go
All right, one leg down. We're here in San Juan. Some rain is rolling in. I actually took that leg
and I'm happy. First landing in about a month and it was pretty smooth. I would rate it an 8 out of
10. Quick turn out of here. We're here for about an hour and then straight back to Tampa landing
at like 10 o'clock. All right, we're back in Tampa. As you can tell, it is dumping rain.
Absolutely dumping. We threaded the needle through some weather. Got in just in time.
Captain took that leg. Solid landing. Coming in with some windy situations. Man,
I'm ready to go home. All right, we are back. Back home. It's 11 33. So pretty tired,
but I'm going to eat some dinner and then pass out. We got a little package from Huckberry and
yeah, I'm back on call for Sunday, tomorrow and Monday and then I'm off for a day.
Every six days they have to give you like a 30 hour rest or 30 something hour rest. So two more
days on call. I hope I don't get calls. Memorial day Monday. I would love to hit the boat possibly
tomorrow or Monday, but we shall see. But overall, pretty smooth trip. I took the first leg,
first time flying the actual plane in a while. I think my trip before that, I didn't even get to
fly too. I was just pilot bombering and it was just like one leg and a deadhead.
So felt good to finally fly again and do a landing. And it was pretty smooth. Pretty,
pretty happy with the landing. And then my captain flew back, had to dodge those storms coming in.
And, um, he did a good job there and yeah, I got dumped on the walk around and, uh,
yeah, we're back first trip of the month. It's 23rd. So yeah, still have not been flying all
that much, but I'll probably fly a couple more times this month. Um, and then next month I'm
going back to the standard late call deal reserve short call. But anyway, thank you guys for
sticking around. I'm going to have some dinner and then shower and pass out. If you guys want
airline pilots, check out my ebook, becoming an airline pilot. Check out, it's called rocket
air. Now it used to be called no more flight training. Now it's called rocket air. This is
what I went to. Um, it's in Melbourne, Florida. And, uh, yeah, all the links down below help
VPN supplements. I almost forgot. That was like the worst run of my life this morning,
but I'm feeling rehydrated and ready to go for another one. But, uh, yeah, anyway,
thank you guys for watching and, uh, I will see you on the next one. Pilot blogs are back.
