Video Summary
AI GeneratedRowan, a professional vocal teacher and former acapella music director, reacts to a stripped-back, acapella-style version of the song \"Through the Eyes of a Child.\" He analyzes the technical aspects of the performance, praising the sound production, the singer's vocal control, and the complex harmonic arrangements of the accompanying choir.
What is up?
Thank you for joining me for another reaction.
How are you?
I hope this video finds you well.
Today is another Aurora Wednesday.
So happy Wednesday, everyone.
Looking forward to this one.
Last week, I reacted to Through the Eyes of a Child,
and it was this live thing from the award show BAFTA,
I think is what it was, whatever, and it was great.
And a number of you guys commented saying
that I needed to react to the acapella version,
I think is what it was, if I'm not mistaken.
And so I guess this will just be her singing
with no instrumentation, minimal instrumentation.
Maybe there's a choir involved.
I'm not really sure what this is going to be.
So I'm excited to jump on into this.
And if you don't know me, I'm Rowan,
and I'm a professional vocal teacher
with a degree in music vocal performance
where I was trained classically
and got to perform all over the world.
I was also the music director
of an all-male acapella group called the Takata Tones,
and we were featured on Best of Collegiate Acapella Albums
and other things like that.
So anyway, it's a little bit about me.
I love music.
I love sharing music.
Let's jump into this stripped version
through the eyes of a child.
Somebody commented saying it was acapella.
So hopefully that's the case.
I love that kind of stuff,
and it'll be interesting to hear her voice
kind of on this very vulnerable stage
with a very gentle and vulnerable song.
Takes a lot of control to sing something like this.
Right off the bat.
Beautiful vocal production.
I'm sorry.
I'm sound production rather.
Sound production of the reverb going on.
Whenever you do have something that's going to be
as I believe as stripped back
and kind of just the voices this is.
Having good reverb is a fantastic tool
because it does kind of create
a little bit more presence
and resonance in the voice
and it really can add a lot to it
and make this feel a lot less dry.
Sometimes these kind of things can almost feel dry.
So already great sound production for sure.
By the way,
if this video or future video ever gets taken down
due to copyright issues or anything else,

That's where everything is.
It's where exclusive stuff is,

So check that out.
All right, let's keep going here.
Beautiful vocal flip there.
You know, one of the things that I'm struck by is
I wonder, you know,
you can't get a feel for this kind of thing.
You'd have to see her live without a microphone
to answer this question.
I wonder how quiet of a singer she is.
The reason I say that is you can hear her consonants
very, very nicely,
but you can also tell that
they're very gentle consonants.
They're like, you know,
like a D is just like a kind of thing,
but you hear it so very clearly with this
which makes me think that she's got a quieter voice.
Everybody's different and you really don't know that.
Like you have no idea
about how loud people's voices are,
but everybody's got different voices.
Like a great example is Andrea Bocelli.
I know he has a very quiet voice
and it's kind of surprising
that he's gotten as famous as he has
because in his world,
usually you need to have a louder voice
and he's just totally overcome that.
It's an amazing thing.
It's very interesting.
I am interested by quiet voices
because I am not a quiet voice.
I clip stuff out all the time on microphones
and everything else.
So I'm wondering if that's the case for her.
Like I'm just going to back this up a touch.
Listen to how gentle these consonants are,
but you hear them so clearly
which means that her microphone sound
must be up a good bit.
Hear how gentle that D is?
We do have a little choir.
Oh, listen to the resonance and the dissonance there.
Wow.
I would rather feel the world
through the skin of a child.
Through the skin of a child.
When a human strokes your skin.
Oh, man, is that good.
That is when you let them in.
Oh, man, that dissonance in that line
and then it resolves right at the end.
That was amazing.
So much push and pull in something like that.
Let's just go back.
Listen to it.
It doesn't really resolve
until the rest of the chord goes out
and she's left holding her note
for like the last split second.
That's incredible writing there.
I would rather feel alive
with a child like so.
With a child like so.
Beautiful chord there.
One thing that's really really difficult
in the acapella world just to talk about that a little bit
is doing a live thing like this
and having slides
because everybody's going to slide a little bit differently.
And so when you have like two notes that are harmony
and then you slide up
they have to slide up like together, right?
They have to go like that.
You can't have this happen.
You see what I'm saying?
It has to be together all the way up.
And so as a result slides are really really really difficult
to do especially in a live setting
and a recorded setting much easier.
But in a live setting it's really tough
and they just had a phenomenal slide there all together.
Right there.
Here we go again.
Hear how everybody slid together?
Again.
Down.
Three slides in that line.
Amazing.
Another slide.
This part is sneaky difficult to actually perform.
Whoever the bass is is crushing it.
Yeah.
Oh, that was hard to sing.
That was so hard to sing there.
How gentle and flipping through that head voice there.
Oh my God.
Yeah, that was really difficult to sing.
There.
See how she goes chest voice to head voice?
Beautiful control.
What a great way to encapsulate that song too.
Oh my gosh.
So like let me actually let me make sure before I get talking.
Oh, yeah, that's it.
So like in singing and playing an instrument world, you have
to make it so the acoustic guitar.
Let's say if you're singing and playing acoustic guitar, you
have to make it so they complement each other and they have
to make sense together and it makes me think about as well
the way that she just did this the presentation and the
arrangement of that song suited the theme of the song and
the vibe of the song very very very nicely.
It's the same kind of idea really just fantastic.
Oh my gosh.
I got to tell you guys that's probably my favorite version
of the song.
Actually, I think I've listened to maybe three.
I think I've reacted to three different versions of that
maybe probably my favorite version.
Let me know what you guys think down in the comments below.
