Amazon Prime Day is here again and that means there's plenty of discounts to be had
on smart home tech. If you've been holding out for a great deal on something for your smart home
then now might be the time to grab yourself a bargain. I've been having a look around at what's
on offer and I'm going to talk through all those items that have caught my attention
just in case you've been looking to upgrade your smart home and save some money in the process.
Hey everyone, my name's Simon and welcome to Byte of Geek,
a channel that's all about home assistant and smart home technology.
So it's that time of year again when Amazon Prime Day comes around and somehow it's now a
three-day event with a build-up beforehand. This is an exclusive event for Amazon Prime customers
so if you don't have a Prime account then it might be worth picking up a free trial.
However it's worth pointing out that many of the smart home brands also do deals that are
just as good and in some cases even better on their own website so it's worth checking on there
as well. I've made several improvements since I did this last year all of which should make things
a bit easier for you to be able to find the best deal. Everything we discussed today is in the
description of this video as well as on a blog post on my website and I'll keep that post updated
with any new offers that pop up over the course of the event so make sure to bookmark that and
check back regularly as new offers do appear from time to time and I'll put a link to that
in the description of this video as well. If you're watching on your big TV, and that's quite
a few of you according to YouTube, then you'll see a QR code throughout the video that you can
scan on your mobile device and that'll take you directly to the product. All the links for the
products that are mentioned in the video are affiliate links and using them does help support
the channel. There really is no extra cost to you so if you do buy something via one of those links
then it is massively appreciated. Okay so let's get going with the deals then and we're starting
off with home security which I kind of feel should always be high on your list of smart home
priorities. Reolink is one of the go-to brands right now for security cameras not just for their
great product range but if you're a home assistant user then the platinum level integration allows
you to create some fantastic automations. I've reviewed quite a few of their devices on the
channel now and it simply amazes me how they keep innovating their products. Reolink have some great
offers available across their range of security cameras with discounts of between 40% and 45%
depending on where you are in the world and where you buy the camera from. One of those cameras is
the Trakflex floodlight wi-fi. It's a mains powered 4k PTZ camera with super bright floodlights.
I've reviewed this on the channel and if you were thinking of putting up or replacing a security
light then this is a better option in my opinion. During the event there's a nice 30% discount on
the camera with an even bigger discount on a double pack direct from the Reolink website. Now
if you're wanting a PoE camera then two of the best cameras in the Reolink range are on offer
right now the Duo 3 PoE and the Omvi 3i PoE. The Duo 3 PoE is the perfect fixed position
wide-angle camera for looking out over the front of your home. It's an interesting design but that
doesn't detract from its excellent performance and during the event it's 40% off. If you liked
the look of the Omvi 3i in my recent review and why wouldn't you as it's one of the new flagship
models in the Reolink range with an incredible design and fantastic camera footage then both
the PoE and Wi-Fi versions are discounted during the Prime event. The PoE version has a 30% off
and if you're wanting to save just a little more then the Wi-Fi version is 31% off. If you don't
want to run ethernet cables and would prefer the ease of a battery camera then the Altas PT Ultra
is an excellent choice. It's 4k and the footage is fantastic. You can see that in the review on
my channel. It comes with a solar panel and it's highly recommended to have that installed so that
you can trickle charge the battery. During the Prime event this PT camera is 32% off. Now if
you've been wanting to upgrade your door lock to a smart one then now might be a good opportunity
as SwitchBot have a range of discounts across their retrofit smart locks of anywhere between 19%
and 35% again depending on where you are in the world and where you buy it from.
The SwitchBot Smart Lock Ultra with keypad vision is a real game changer. I've got it installed on
my house and it's so simple to install and use and really helps when you've got your hands full
and during the event it has a 23% discount which is a pretty good deal. For my viewers in Canada or
the United States if your door has a deadbolt then you might want to check out the new Matter
over Wi-Fi Lock Vision Pro. This has more than 10 different ways to unlock your door including
multiple biometric methods so if this is more your thing then SwitchBot have this with a 30% to 35%
discount depending on where you buy it. And finally for the security deals if you're after a smart
doorbell then both Reolink and Aqara have some great offers available with the Aqara G4 having
33% off and the Reolink battery or powered doorbells having discounts of between 20% and 30%
off. Sadly the PoE version of the Reolink doorbell isn't in the list of products taking part in the
event this year. Now with a lot of the questions and polls that I run on my channel sensors are
one of the most popular groups of devices with such a wide range of options available they really
are the type of thing that makes the magic happen in your smart home. One such sensor that I reviewed
recently is the Meros MS605 presence sensor and this has been super popular with everyone. This
is a battery powered presence and PIR sensor so you get the best of both worlds and it has an
expected runtime of three years from a single battery. Having bought another one of these after
my initial review I've now got two of them in my smart home in places where I really didn't want to
have a cable showing and right now these are discounted by 20% which makes them unbelievable
value. Next and we have a presence sensor that's out of stock more times than it's in and that is
the Acara FP300. This is a super popular battery powered sensor that supports both Zigbee and
Thread protocols and works very well with Home Assistant so if you prefer to have a Zigbee based
sensor then this is 15% cheaper during the Prime event. Now it's been a while since I reviewed the
SwitchBot Meter Pro CO2 on the channel and I really liked it and it seems a lot of my audience
have as well. It's a great portable unit that shows the temperature, humidity and CO2 levels
with a nice low power display that means it can run on batteries for up to two years. In fact I've
only just replaced the original batteries in mine after 19 months of use. If you have the SwitchBot
Hub 3 then it can link up with the Meter Pro and display relevant information on its display as
well and of course if you're using Home Assistant then you'll be pleased to know that it integrates
nicely with that. The SwitchBot Meter Pro CO2 is now on sale with a discount of between 23%
and 31% depending on your location and where you buy it from. Next and we have Acara and I've been
using their products for several years in my smart home and I have the temperature, door, vibration
and leak sensors in every room in my home. They're small and reliable and if you have a Zigbee mesh
then these make a great addition to your smart home working extremely well with Home Assistant.
These all have different levels of discount during the event so the temperature and humidity sensors
are 15% off or 20% if you buy the bundle. The door sensors which are quite possibly the smallest on
the market are 15% off with the bundle being 25% off. Vibration sensors which are handy to add some
of these to your smart home they are 15% off and something that could potentially save you a load
of hassle and expense are the leak sensors which work brilliantly either as intended or if you're
making your own bed sensor and during the event they're 20% off. Finally we have the Sonoff Airguard
CO2 monitor and this is a USB powered device so it's nice and quick to give you status updates.
It's primarily a CO2 monitor but it also has temperature and humidity sensors as well and a
loud alarm which sounds when CO2 levels get too high. When I'm recording content with the doors
and windows closed in this room I can cause the sensor to activate in less than 10 minutes with my
constant talking and breathing so imagine what it might be like in your home or even when you're
sleeping. Sonoff have a nice 11% discount on this right now but even without that it's a great device
for keeping an eye on the quality of the air in your home and if you wanted a PM 2.5 and PM 10
detection that looks identical to the CO2 monitor then Sonoff have 11% off that as well.
One area of smart home tech that I feel doesn't get mentioned enough is blinds and curtains and
if you've been thinking about automating those then I can highly recommend it. With automated
covers you can create some great automations that help with privacy as well as keeping your home
at a comfortable temperature level. Something like the SwitchBot Curtain Rod 3 is so simple
to install. There's no tools required they just clip over your curtain rod and enable you to
create routines that help with security as well as the perfect morning wake-up routine. During the
Prime event SwitchBot have these with a 26% discount. Now if you're using Zigbee and you'd
have something that works with that then Akara have a similar offering with the Smart Curtain
Motor E1. This offers up to a year of battery life and just like the SwitchBot equivalent
they're easy to install as well. Again these are for curtain rods and if these are more your thing
then Akara have a discount of 10% during the Prime event as well. Now if you've got shades
rather than curtains and you want a great way to automate those then Akara also have the Roller
Shade E1 in the Prime event. These are simple to install, have a decent battery life and are
perfect for creating routines that adjust your shades depending on the sun position with Home
Assistant which is great for keeping a room nice and cool. These are a cost-effective way to automate
your blinds and during the event Akara have them discounted by 5%. Finally if you'd rather just
have an all-in-one solution then Smart Wings is a fantastic choice and something I can recommend.
I bought a very large Zigbee shade to cover my bifold doors after watching a review of them on
YouTube. I've had it running now for almost three years and it's been completely faultless. Whilst
mine is a Zigbee version you can also choose Thread and Z-Wave and you've got multiple ways to
power them. We have the battery version and it lasts a good six months before we need to charge
it again. These are made to measure so they take away the hassle of having to cut them down to size
yourself. Everything you need to install them is in the kit and the hardest part is drilling some
holes. We have a total blackout version but there are many styles available on the Smart Wings
website and during the Prime event they have a site-wide 8% discount. Now if you're just starting
your Smart Home journey or maybe you're taking your next steps something you might see mentioned
quite a bit is a Zigbee dongle or coordinator. There's several choices out there but a couple
that I've used over the years are offerings from Sonoff and currently an SM Light Adapter.
The Sonoff Zigbee 3 USB dongle is a great all-round device and it was the first one that I bought
when I started looking at Zigbee devices. It's a small radio that just plugs into a spare USB port
of whatever you're using as your Smart Home controller. Right now Sonoff have this with a 24%
discount which makes it one of the cheapest quality radios you can buy. However what I currently use
is an SM Light SL-ZB06 PoE coordinator something that I moved to when I decided I wanted to switch
as many kind of devices like this to PoE. This is a considerably larger device than the Sonoff
both in terms of the housing and the antenna and just like the Sonoff dongle it works extremely
well with Home Assistant. It is however a very different device with many configuration options
and even a built-in WireGuard VPN for remote connectivity. There are several different
versions in the product lineup including USB options as well. I don't have a discount in time
for the video so if you're keen to get one of these then I would suggest keeping an eye on them
over the Prime event. Those of you who are green-fingered might be interested to know that
Third Reality are running offers on their range of products during the event. The newly improved
Soil Moisture Sensor Gen 2 that I bought and reviewed not so long ago has a 15% discount
making it an excellent and affordable way to ensure you don't go killing your plants and for
the ultimate indoor plant care system then combine that with the Watering Kit which has a 20% discount
over the event. If you're looking to enhance your home entertainment experience then maybe
something like the SofaBaton X2 might be the answer. This is effectively an all-in-one
premium remote that can control a vast range of devices from hundreds of different manufacturers
with the added benefit of also working with Home Assistant via MQTT and an integration via HACS.
I reviewed this on the channel when it was launched and it was a very impressive piece of kit
so simple to set up and use and does away with the need for those multiple remotes.
During the Prime event the X2 has a very nice 20% discount on it. The next item I've got on
my list that's got a great discount on it depending on which version you opt for that is
is the SwitchBot Artframe. This is an e-ink picture that can display not only your own images
but it can also display those that it can generate via AI. I don't think anything has ever been so
divisive on the channel than this and whatever your view is on the product the fact remains
that it is a great product to have if you like to have artwork hanging on your wall.
It's completely wire free so you can hang these just like regular pictures and you can interchange
the frames with those from Ikea. SwitchBot have 27% off the smallest sized artframe which is 7.3
inches and 20% off the mid-sized version which is 13.3 inches. Now I may not have won around
Mrs Bite of Geek on the Govee outdoor lights yet but that doesn't mean I've not added other smart
lighting elsewhere around the house. If you're after some background lighting for your entertainment
system or your big TV then Govee have some great discounts in the Prime event with the Backlight 2
discounted by 40% as well as discounts on the regular LED strips which is what I've got for
my under cabinet lighting. Now whether you're in the Philips Hue ecosystem or not their lighting
products are exceptional quality and whilst they're not exactly cheap you do get what you pay
for and that's even more so with the Flux range of LED strips. I bought some of the ultra bright
strips not so long ago and they work exceptionally well and you can certainly notice the difference
in the quality compared to cheap LED strips. During the event the Philips Hue range has a
wide range of discounts available with this three meter Flux strip for example having 20% off.
Okay so if you have a cat or small dog in your home then the Acara Smart Pet Feeder is something
I can highly recommend. I bought this nearly three years ago now and it's been a great addition to my
smart home. Our cat absolutely loves this. He rushes to eat his biscuits every time he hears
the motor turn to release the portion size that we've gone and set up and that makes it sound like
it's noisy but we can't hear that at all. It's been extremely reliable for us. It's simple to use
just fill it up and set your schedules and I've done all of that in Home Assistant along with some
other automations. Right now this has a saving of 10% during the Prime event. Now I've been using
smart plugs for many years mostly for convenience really but recently monitoring power consumption
has been one of those areas I've really been looking into and I know it's quite a popular
thing with a lot of my channel audience. When you introduce smart plugs or sockets into your home
it's a real eye-opener as to what you find you're consuming on a device-by-device basis. Armed with
the right information you can then build automations around those power-hungry devices
that are either left on all the time or combined with present sensors you can start to have devices
power on and off automatically when you're around. I've been using several brands over the years but
the two that I use nowadays are Meros and Third Reality. The Meros plugs are Matter over Wi-Fi
and Third Reality are Zigbee based. Both have energy monitoring and they play extremely well
in Home Assistant. They're both pretty much identical in design and being the slimmer style
you can get them in alongside each other in an extension block. With a discount of 18% on the
Meros plugs and 20% on the Third Reality ones, these make a great addition to your smart home
to open up plenty of possibilities. So that's everything that I know of so far but do check
out my blog posts throughout the Prime event for the latest updates as new deals do get added
constantly. If you found this video helpful then I'd appreciate a thumbs up and why not subscribe
to the channel for more smart home content like this. But as always thanks for watching
and I'll see you in the next video. Bye for now.
