AI GeneratedAn exclusive first look at Royal Caribbean's Legend of the Seas, the third Icon-class ship. Rather than a total redesign, this vessel focuses on refining the guest experience by implementing passenger feedback from previous ships to improve seating, dining, and visual entertainment.
We've got a first look inside Royal Caribbean's newest cruise ship
months before anybody can sail on it, and I want to share what really surprised us.
This is Legend of the Seas, the next mega ship in the Icon class, and might look familiar at first,
there are actually a lot of changes waiting for you on board. Some of them fix real complaints,
some of them are subtle upgrades, and some of them might be the coolest thing
Royal Caribbean has ever built. Let me show you what we saw.
Our team traveled to the Maier Turku shipyard in Finland for an exclusive sneak peek at Legend of
the Seas, which is launching in the summer. This is the third in Royal Caribbean's Icon class,
following Icon of the Seas and Star of the Seas. And here's what makes this one important,
it's the first ship where Royal Caribbean actually applied feedback from passengers who have sailed
on the first two ships. The reason being is that Icon and Star's development was already well
underway, so there wasn't time to really respond to it. So while most of the ship does look
familiar, there are some meaningful tweaks all over the place. Let's begin with the pool deck,
because this is where a lot of people spend their time. At first glance, it looks very similar to
Icon and Star. Same layout, same energy, same resort at sea vibe, and honestly, that's all
a good thing. This space is still bright, colorful, and packed with pools and hot tubs.
But what stood out to us the most wasn't what changed, it's what didn't. Royal Caribbean
clearly feels like they nailed this area the first time, so they left it alone. It's an
amazing space, and I think it's the best pool deck because it really does solve already, even with
Icon, the crowding issue, especially with chair hogs and whatnot. Then there's Thrill Island, home
to the Category 6 water park, and again, mostly the same, but with some subtle updates. The biggest
difference? A refreshed color palette that makes the whole area pop a little bit more. And there's
also an updated mini golf course coming, although that wasn't finished when we visited. It's a small
change, but hey, it shows the pattern here. The ship isn't about reinventing everything, it's about
refining what already works. Moving on to the Aquadome, and this is where we start to see some
real improvements. The Aquadome is still one of the most impressive spaces at sea, but Royal Caribbean
fixed something people complained about, which is the seating. On Icon class ships, the Aqua Theater
seating didn't have really great back support. I mean, it had no back support, and that's a big deal
when you're watching a full show for like more than half an hour. On Legend of the Seas, that's
been updated with proper seats that actually have backs, and that alone is a huge upgrade.
Then there's the food, because the Aquadome market has five new food stalls, including concepts like
Soulmate, Adobo, and Cajun Kitchen. Also kind of interesting is that Royal Caribbean removed the
Royal Bling store. This is of course the Royal Caribbean themed jewelry store that was on Icon
and Star. The venue is being replaced with an unnamed retail store. Don't worry though, if you
want to buy Royal Caribbean giant honkin' necklaces, you can still do so. These will still be sold on
Alright, let's move on to the Royal Railway, because this might be the most interesting thing
on the entire ship. Legend of the Seas is the first Icon class ship to feature Royal Railway
Legend Station, an immersive dining experience inside a train. And this isn't just dinner,
it's a full experience. You're taken on a journey along the Silk Road with storytelling,
themed drinks, and a multi-course meal. In fact, every piece of the meal corresponds to the country
you're in. Each train car holds about 24 guests, and they stagger the seating time so the show can
happen in both cars. Now here's what stood out to us. This version feels bigger, it's more immersive,
and it's also more ambitious. There's even a bar when you first walk in, like you're waiting to
board a train. This is one of those things that could become a must-do experience on board.
The Royal Railway isn't an extra cost experience, it's especially restaurant, and yes, kids can go
here. I think what's really neat about this idea is that it goes well beyond what a traditional
specialty restaurant offers. I've done it actually on the Utopia of the Seas, and I did a very early
beta test of Royal Railway Legend Station at Royal Airmen's headquarters, and they were testing it
out. But what's really neat about this is it's immersive. It's sound, food, and experience.
Everything, the train even vibrates. My goodness, it's that impressive by it. It's one of those
must-dos. All right, on to another change that's coming to Legend of the Seas, and that's the Pearl,
because this might actually be the coolest upgrade. The Pearl is already one of the most iconic
features about an Icon-class ship. It's this massive three-deck structure in the middle of
the Royal Promenade. But on Legend of the Seas, it's been completely reimagined. Instead of moving
panels, it now has 627 LED panels creating dynamic visuals, and the system can display over 100
minutes of animations. Now, we only saw a few seconds of it, but we can tell it's going to be
really amazing. I mean, this is going to be one of those huge wow moments when guests first walk
on board the ship. Speaking of the Royal Promenade, it's pretty much what you'd expect on there. It's
nearly finished, and it's going to be a major hub on board the ship. Most of the venues are pretty
much the same as the other Icon-class ships, but there are still a few tweaks, like swapping out
certain retail concepts. Nothing dramatic, but again, it fits the theme of refinement.
Let's move on to Central Park, one of my favorite places on any Royal Caribbean cruise ship. Central
Park is still under construction, but you can already tell that it's going to be beautiful.
This is one of the most relaxing areas on any Royal Caribbean ship, and once the plants,
trees, and greenery are added to it, it'll become a completely different atmosphere
compared to the rest of the ship. Something else new to Legend of the Seas is the Hollywood
Land Supper Club. This is a new version of the Supper Club concept, and on Legend,
it's designed to be one of the most upscale dining experiences on board. Now, this continues
the trend we've already seen on other ships. Royal Caribbean is leaning harder into immersive,
premium dining. With Hollywood Land Supper Club, as you might imagine, it's Hollywood-themed,
which means you're going to have great music from Hollywood's golden age. I mean,
I've been excited about every Supper Club. I'm the most excited about this one because I love
movie themes and movie music. It's one of my favorite things to listen to in the background.
So the fact that this is going to be a theme to the Supper Club restaurant, which, by the way,
is a multi-course, intimate meal with cocktails that are paired to the food, I just can't wait
to try it out. Moving over to Surfside, this is the kids' area neighborhood of the ship,
and Royal Caribbean is definitely leaning into the kids' area even more with this because it
has a new beach theme and a rubber duck carousel. Now, Surfside has always been a family-focused
neighborhood, and on Legend of the Seas, it isn't seeing significant changes, but
it is getting more of a, I think, kid-friendly design, if you will, because there's gonna be
a subtle beach theme throughout Surfside. I mean, it is called Surfside after all.
The entrance is a surf-themed mural, and the playscape is designed as a mini beach town
with beach-themed climbing areas and stands. Now, one fun feature coming to Surfside is a
rubber duck-themed carousel. The carousel isn't complete yet, but expect to see many different
rubber ducks as seats on the ride, and because hiding ducks is so popular on Royal Caribbean
ships, I think this is gonna be a real huge home run for both parents and adults, I mean,
and kids, obviously, because, let's face it, I mean, people are gonna wanna take selfies on
these things, for sure. Next up are cabins on board. We got a chance to check out a few of
the cabins. There's nothing, like, tremendously different about it, but we wanted to share what
it looks like when Royal Caribbean builds out these cabins. First up was the Surfside family suite.
We later toured an Infinite Family Balcony. The Infinite Family Balcony first launched with Icon
of the Seas, but a new style of this cabin has come to legend, the Family Balcony. This cabin
features the same layout as an Infinite Family Balcony, which includes a separate room with bunk
beds for kids and a split bathroom concept. However, it has a traditional balcony in lieu
of the Infinite Balcony, but the rest of the cabins probably don't have that much more of changes or
surprises in it, although you never know when we get on board the ship. It's impossible to see a
ship as massive as Legend of the Seas in just a few hours for our visit, but we didn't get to see
every nook and cranny on board. I'm sorry, but what we did get to see, though, looks fantastic,
and I really can't wait to see another Icon of the Seas ship officially joining the fleet. Now,
remember, Legend of the Seas will join the fleet beginning in July, when on July 4th,
she'll offer cruises from Rome, Italy. Throughout the summer, she'll sell seven-night cruises
around the Western Mediterranean, visiting ports like Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, and Naples.
Then in October, Legend will cross the Atlantic to home port in Fort Lauderdale. From there,
she'll sail six-night cruises to the Western Caribbean, and eight-night cruises itineraries as
well, with every sailing having to stop at perfect day at Cocoa Key, which, of course, is Royal
Caribbean's private island in the Bahamas. With just about three months to go, there's still a
lot to complete around the ship, but progress is definitely moving rapidly. In fact, the ship's
first crew members are set to arrive this weekend, making an important milestone for
Legend of the Seas. Soon enough, there'll be thousands of passengers and crew on board sailing
around the Med. In the coming months, Legend will complete her finishing touches at the
Mayur Tukro Shipyard before her official delivery to Royal Caribbean. Following that, the shipyard
will continue construction on Hero of the Seas' fifth unnamed Icon-class cruise ship, which will
launch in 2027 and 2028, respectively. So there you have it, a look at what's new, different,
and exciting about the Legend of the Seas. This ship isn't about big flashy changes,
it's about fixing what didn't work and improving what already did. Better seating,
more immersive dining, smarter design choices, and a few surprises, like the pearl really took me
by surprise how much different it really is. And honestly, that might be exactly what Royal Caribbean
needed to do. Subtle changes, a few big ones, and I think we've got a winning combination.
