Video Summary
AI GeneratedThis professional guide details how to achieve a blurred, \"airbrushed\" makeup finish regardless of skin texture. The focus is on meticulous skin preparation, the strategic use of matte products to avoid emphasizing imperfections, and specific application techniques—such as priming brushes and layering setting spray before powder—to ensure a seamless, cake-free result.
Most people think you need perfect skin for your makeup to look good and airbrushed
But you don't if your makeup makes your skin look even more textured
It's probably because of a couple mistakes that you're making and i'm going to show you how to fix them in today's video
So let's get right into it
When i've had friends or family ask me how they can get their skin more smooth or airbrushed. I always start with preparation
And honestly, it's pretty simple
so my one non-negotiable when it comes to getting smooth looking skin that sits so nice under makeup is
Exfoliating and I don't mean scrubbing your face because that can actually cause little tiny micro tears in your skin
And it can disrupt your skin barrier, which we don't want that obviously
but what I actually recommend is a chemical exfoliant and when I tell you I have people running back to me being like
Oh my gosh, amanda. My skin is so much smoother
It looks so much better when I put makeup on my skin looks more hydrated. I've like aged backwards
I kid you not it's in the chemical exfoliator a chemical exfoliator is going to reduce the look of pores
And it's also going to eat away all the little dead skin dry skin patches that you have sitting on your skin
But the type you use is really important
If you have never used a chemical exfoliator before I do recommend starting with something a little bit more gentle
I really recommend these pads from first aid beauty. These are their facial radiance pads and they are safe for sensitive skin
These are a really great place to start you can use these for every day and they're just little pads that are soaked in
The chemical exfoliating liquid and you rub them all over your face and you just toss them when you're done
Super super easy super gentle safe for sensitive skin
These are always what I recommend to start if you haven't used them before
Or if you're just kind of like low maintenance and want something easy for every day
These are so good. They make a huge difference in the skin
Oh, I love these ones so much
And then once you become a little bit seasoned with your chemical exfoliation
You might want to upgrade to something a little bit more intense
This one by paula's choice has gone viral a few times for a good reason
This is amazing at making your skin look poreless smooth like a baby's bottom. I love this one
This is their two percent bha liquid exfoliant
This is a salicylic acid and I would not use this one every single day
I would use this maybe every second probably every third day a couple times a week kind of thing
You pour a little bit of this on a cotton pad rub it on your face
I like to do this usually before I go to bed and that is it
It'll eat away at all your dead skin cells overnight and will tighten up your pores and make them look microscopic
But there are a ton of options out there
I've tried lots and lots and these are the ones that I recommend the next thing I recommend doing and this is more optional
But it does also make a huge difference hair removal on the face. So this is a dermaplaner device
It is just like kind of an electric little razor that you can
Shave your face with and I like this better than using one of those little blades that you see people using
I just think those are scary and you can cut yourself really easy. I've never cut myself with this
This is so quick and easy to use and it's like cute. It doesn't make me feel like i'm shaving my face
I've recommended this to a lot of people. I use this myself
I don't use this all over my face because I don't have a ton of peach fuzz all over my face
I have used it all over my face. I didn't notice my hair grew back thicker or anything like that
I usually just use this around my mouth and my brows. This works so good for removing just little stray hairs
However, again, i've recommended this to family friends clients and a lot of people come back to me telling me how much they love
This thing it is so easy and no one has ever said it's made their hair grow back thicker
I think that is a myth
So this is optional because obviously if you want a really really smooth base
I would recommend dermaplaning and removing the hair, especially if you do have more peach fuzz
I don't think it's completely necessary for events and stuff like that
I do think it makes a difference and if you do have a good amount of peach fuzz
This will really make a difference on how your makeup sits on top of your skin. I promise you
Okay, let's get into the fun stuff. I have a controversial opinion
I think you should skip primers. A lot of people swear by primers
I honestly as a professional makeup artist and as someone who reviews makeup for a living
I just don't think primers are completely necessary
Sometimes they can improve your makeup. Don't get me wrong
There's a time and a place for everything but in general, I think skip the primers
My skin almost always looks better without a primer. It's one less layer on the skin
So you're going to be less prone to pilling and I do feel like honestly a setting spray
Is going to do more for you than a primer, but that is just my opinion and we'll get into that later
But anyways skip the primer. That's my professional opinion for you now
Remember, like I said, you do not need perfect skin to have your skin look airbrush
There are a lot of little tips and tricks in this video that will absolutely work if you have textured or acne prone skin
My skin i'm very grateful right now. There's actually nothing too crazy happening
It is pretty clear. My skin is actually glowing and that's because I got back on my routine of using a chemical exfoliant
I just feel like brightness has returned back to my skin. It doesn't look dull. It doesn't look dry and sad. I just am so
Pro having a chemical exfoliant in your routine. I can't say enough good things about it
Anyways, thankfully, I don't have a lot to cover up on my skin right now
But this is the exact technique that I use and recommend to anyone with dark spots acne anything you want to conceal
Okay, I go in with an hour soft matte complete concealer and I truly believe this is the best
Concealer that i've ever tried for covering acne or any dark spots or anything like that. I call this my magic eraser
This is not cakey. It covers anything
It lasts a long time you get a ton of product and it looks beautiful and natural on the skin and it's matte
So it's going to give you that filtered look. I have a couple little tiny spots on my face
But trust me this works with more intense spots, too
I'm just going to take a little bit of that concealer up on a small brush. This is a mac
231 I will link it down below
I have a little spot right here on my forehead a little bit of this concealer goes a very long way
So i'm just going to paint that concealer right on top of that spot
Just like that and i'm going to just leave it i'm not going to blend it
I also have a couple little teeny blemishes right here in between my brows. I'm going to cover those
As well and that's actually all i'm going to do for right now
So I always recommend less is more when it comes to base products start by concealing everything you need to
And nothing more because your foundation will cover things you can always add concealer later
But it's really hard to take it away after it already starts looking heavy
You know if you struggle with your discoloration or acne poking through your foundation after you apply it
Do this trick after concealer. Okay, just take a little bit of setting powder
This is the charlotte tilbury airbrush flawless setting powder. This one is so good
I talk about this in my best setting powder video
I'll put it on the screen
But any setting powder will work you just take a little bit on your brush and tap it
Right on top just a little bit right on top of that concealer
So when you're blending stuff on top, it's not all going to lift up
This is going to kind of lock it in place
and you know when you try to apply makeup on top of a fresh pimple or maybe even on top of a little bit of
Like broken irritated skin and it doesn't stick do the concealer then powder. It's going to help you so much now for foundation
I recently have been doing this very specific technique and I actually think it's been giving me the best results i've ever had
I'm going in with the nars natural matte long wear foundation
I really like this one because it does actually what the name says
It is a natural looking matte foundation and it wears a really long time on my channel
I usually wear more natural like skin tints and glowy foundations and stuff like that
But this is a airbrush looking foundation tutorial
Okay, the key to having like blurred filtered looking skin
Honestly in my opinion is having a bit more of a matte finish
Obviously for pictures you can throw the filter on to really blur everything
but for me when I really want to look blurred I go for something more matte and that's just simply because
Glowy products do tend to emphasize texture a little bit
So if you can find really good matte products, you will notice you look a little bit more airbrushed and blurred
I'm going to start by putting a pump of that on the back of my hand and here's what I do
Okay, you're gonna want a flat spatula brush that looks kind of like this
Unfortunately morphe doesn't sell this brush, but i've linked one very very similar down below
And then you're just gonna paint that foundation on your skin in a very thin even layer
Especially with matte foundations that do have a little bit more coverage
This technique really prevents you from over applying and getting that cakey heavy look
We want all the benefits of wearing something matte and more full coverage long wearing
Without the downsides that can come with it like cakiness heaviness clinging to dry patches all that stuff, you know
And again, I will always just hammer this in you can always add more later
But it is very hard to take away once you've applied with this foundation
I do find that one pump is the perfect amount
This is where we're at with one pump and then I just go in with this fluffy brush by mph
It's by mary phillips one of my favorite makeup artists ever
This brush is incredible for just buffing the foundation into the skin and making it look super soft and airbrushed
I use a tapping motion instead of a dragging motion
This is a huge huge tip that I like to give people when you drag your foundation brush along your skin
To blend in your foundation that is going to cause streakiness
That might even cause lifting of your skincare or whatever else you've applied underneath your foundation and it may cause pilling
This technique is just going to melt everything into the skin and give you a flawless finish
And really just take your time here to work that foundation into the skin
Make sure you look at it from every angle
Make sure you didn't miss any spots and always blend down the neck as well
As you can see that's given me a very flawless base
It's given me coverage but not too much coverage and the finish is a very natural matte
It's not glowy by any means
But it's not matte to the point where it just like sucks all the life out of your face
The foundation you use is actually really important
I made a video a while ago on my favorite foundations, but i'm thinking I should make an updated one
Is that something you guys would like to see let me know down in the comments
So I should make an updated favorite foundations video now for concealer
This technique that i'm about to show you is so severely underrated
I don't know why I don't see more people doing this
I'm going into the Estee Lauder double wear stay in place concealer and hear me out
I do not use full coverage concealers all over the face very often for everyday wear
I'm, definitely more of like a serum concealer girl
But this is the best full coverage concealer for all over the face under the eyes. It's it's so nice
It doesn't crease but again a little goes a long way
So i'm actually going to take a little bit of that concealer on the back of my hand just like this
And then i'm going to take my concealer brush. This one is by patrick taut
I'll link the exact one down below
And what i'm going to do is i'm going to press that brush into the concealer and make sure to coat the brush
evenly in concealer before even putting any product on my face
And then i'm going to look at the brush and make sure there are no areas that have more product
This is going to prevent any patchiness or over application
Once you've got the brush primed you are going to start stamping that where you need it
I like to start under the eyes
This technique is exceptional for under eyes because I think a big reason and obviously creasing under the eyes
Is natural and it's going to happen
but I think a big reason why it happens worse than it needs to is because there's simply too much product being applied in that
area and settling into
Fine lines so this actually gives you the control to apply less product
With a super even application that gives you the most impact with the most little amount of product being used
So I like to flip over my brush to the fluffy side
And then I just kind of like blot over my concealer to smooth everything out again
Really just airbrushing this into the skin
I think over applying concealer is just quite unflattering going in straight from the applicator onto the face
I just don't think it gives the most flattering effect
Especially if you really want to look good like you really want to look airbrushed flawless perfect
I still do it all the time, especially when i'm in a rush
Obviously, it's one less step to do to not prime your brush. But when I tell you the results are worth it
It's so good this concealer covered up my under eye circles all the way and it's gonna look so good by the end of the night
It's not gonna be a greasy mess and I just use that same technique wherever I need a little extra coverage
I usually like to brighten a little bit right in the center of the forehead center of the brows and then down the nose a
Little bit and then of course around the mouth where I get a little bit red
My under eyes look so good and so smooth and we haven't even powdered yet
Just wait till we get to powder. That is like
The ultimate step when it comes to looking blurred, but as you can see we're lacking a little bit of dimension in the face
So i'm going in with this new contour that i'm absolutely obsessed with this is the house labs precision sculpt shaping balm
I'm applying this a little bit higher than the hollow of my cheek for a lifted look
And then i'm putting this on the edges of my forehead as well
And then this brush I think is so key to getting an airbrushed look. This is by refi
It is my go-to brush for when I need any cream product to look airbrushed again
I've linked it down below
But I like to use the dense side to do a kind of rough blend to really tap that into the skin
This is a bit more precise and once I've more precisely blended out that cream
I like to flip it over to the fluffier duo fiber side and this is where I really go for an airbrush blend
This fluffy end of the brush just makes any cream product like melt and disappear into the skin in the best way
The coverage stays but you just can't tell where the product ends or begins. It gives such a beautiful blend. I love this brush
I use it all the time on my channel
I love how precisely I can apply contour with this stick and it just melts into the skin
This is in the shade chisel i've been loving this new launch lately
Oh my word now for some blush, which is my favorite part and let me just tell you something about miss huda beauty
Okay, when her products say the word filter on them
She's not kidding. A lot of her filtered products look like filters in person and this blush is one of them
This is her blush filter liquid blush in the shade cotton candy and i've loved the shade since it came out
This is the perfect kind of like bubblegum baby pink for fair skin tones
Looks so good, but she has so many colors
I'll put some of the swatches of the ones I have on the screen right now
She has since come out with more but i've linked my favorite shades down below for you
And i'm just using this brush by makeup by mario to tap that into the cheek
I like to start with a liquid blush, but I don't like to use something that is too
Glowy or too slippery on the skin because like I said that can emphasize texture on the cheek
These are nice like cloud matte finish, which is perfect for the look that we're going for today
Very airbrushed very flawless does not emphasize texture or dryness whatsoever. I've been trying to
Dial it back on the blush blindness lately because i've been known to have a bit of a heavy hand when it comes to blush
But just a couple little dots is all you need and this shade
Just looks so natural, but so pretty especially in photos like
I love this blush. So you'll notice I have a pretty tried and true technique throughout this whole video
I'm doing the initial blend with the smaller side and then i'm just flipping that brush over for the bigger side
And just tapping that all over everything to make sure everything just blends in seamlessly together
Another thing you could do is just take a clean powder brush or whatever kind of brush and just tap over everything
Once you're done the initial application. So here we are cream products are applied
This is a key point in the makeup where I feel like a lot of people go wrong
If you've watched my videos before you know that I actually like to set my face with setting spray before going in with powder
And I don't really understand why we always use setting spray at the end of the makeup
I understand if you're looking very powdery and you want to tone the powder down
But powder actually gives you that airbrushed flawless blurred look and sometimes when you put setting spray on top of that
It can kind of just melt everything back into the skin and that texture can start to reappear a little bit
So that's why I actually like to use setting spray at this stage
I'm going into the morphe life proof continuous setting mist. This has been my favorite setting spray as of late
The mist is so fine. I love this kind of mister
So much better than like a pumping mister that you have to press a bunch of times
Even other misters that have similar packaging to this feel like hairspray on the face. This does not and so I morph
It's like very fairly priced. So i'm just spraying a light layer of that all over my face
Now this is where the magic happens
We're going to go in with powder
But before we go into powder make sure that your setting spray is completely dry
Otherwise your powder is going to look like a chunky patchy mess. The powder i'm going to use today is by fenty beauty
This is their set it down super fine blurring setting powder in the shade lavender
When I want my skin to look bright and blurred
This is the powder that I use. I like to take some of this powder into the cap
So I just like to tap a bit out and me personally
I think the best way to apply setting powder if you want to look very smooth and airbrushed is with a powder puff
This is going to give you a good amount of coverage
It's going to press the powder on top of the skin in an even layer and it's not going to disrupt your makeup underneath
Especially if you apply it using this technique
Okay, what you're going to want to do is you're going to want to take your puff
You're going to want to pick up some powder on your puff and you don't need to be shy a good amount of powder is
Totally fine
And then what you're going to do is you're just going to press that into the palm of your hand to remove any excess powder
And just work it into the puff so that it's not going to apply
Heavily or cakey or patchily. It's kind of like the prepping your brush method that I talked about earlier
Except we're prepping our puff
Once your puff is prepped you're going to want to go in underneath your eyes and just double check honestly with this concealer
There's like no creasing
But if there is any creasing you're going to want to blend it out and smooth it out first before going into powder
Otherwise you are going to set those creases
In place and you're going to want to just tap and press that powder in
Very gently honestly no need for any crazy baking here
This is going to be more flattering and more natural looking in my opinion
And for the other eye do the same thing pick up a bit more powder
And just press off the excess into the palm of your hand and then go right in you can do like a little press
And roll kind of motion. I also like to use a puff to apply powder where I get fine lines
So around my mouth I do get fine lines and it also just kind of gets a little shiny throughout the day
So I do like to really powder that area well as well as my chin
See how blurred those areas look this powder is so good and it's super finely milled
So it's not going to get like gummy and heavy looking. I really think this powder is kind of underrated
I don't know why more people don't talk about it and you can totally powder the rest of your face using a puff
But for me, I actually like to use a different powder for the rest of my face
This is totally optional, but i'm going in with the charlotte tilbury airbrush flawless finish powder
This is also a very finely milled powder
I've gone through so
many of these because it is one of the best powders ever in my opinion and i've been loving this morphe dual ended brush because
It has a really small brush to get into those hard to reach areas and then a more fluffy side
I'm, just picking that powder up and i'm just going to press that into any areas that I didn't powder
Mostly my forehead and then on my cheeks a little bit
I like to use this one instead of the fenty one because the fenty one is a little bit
Brightening and sometimes I just don't want my whole face to look bright
So i'll use this to set the rest and this really does give you like a flawless filter effect
I've used this powder personally and on clients for years after I set my face with powder
I do like to go in with a little bit of extra bronzer and blush in powder form
So i'm going in with the too faced chocolate soleil matte blurring bronzer in the shade milk chocolate
And i'm picking that up on a refer o5 this bronzer is so delicious. It smells like chocolate and it is so
Blurring and easy to blend and for my fair skinned girlies, you know
It can be hard to find a powder bronzer that doesn't turn orange, but this one just looks so good and so natural
I love it. This is new from them. I do believe I like to put a little bit
On my cheekbones as well a little bit higher on the cheek instead of like contouring with it. I like to flick this
Up towards my temple a little bit
So think more so on the cheek than the cheekbone then I just like to dust a little bit
Across my nose and then of course i'm gonna add just a little bit more blush
I'm going with the laura mercier blush color infusion in the shade ginger
But you can use any powder blush as long as it is matte
I'm, just applying this with a refer o4
The reason I don't use glowy blush when I want to look super airbrush is again
Because it can emphasize texture especially on the cheek. A lot of us do have texture
So we just want to avoid that. I wish you guys could see this in person. It literally looks like my skin is
Flawless and i'm wearing a filter sometimes makeup looks way better on camera than it does in real life
But this is just one of those looks i've tried so many different product combinations
But this one in particular just looks so good in person
I'll bring you guys in close so you can see the finish effect and what my texture is looking like
I definitely don't have like super textured skin, but I definitely have
Some fine lines that I deal with and I do have texture that can be visible depending on the products that I use
I think there's a time and a place where we all like to look very
Flawless a little bit blurred, you know what I mean? And I hope this tutorial today can help you achieve that
However, if you're a more glowy skinned girl, I have a tutorial for that as well
I put it on the screen and make sure to check that out
Don't forget to subscribe if you want more tips on how to make your makeup look better
Thank you so much for watching and I will see you in the next one
