Video Summary
AI GeneratedA comparison between a budget-friendly lasagna from Aldi and a premium option from Charlie Biggams (sold at Tesco). The reviewer evaluates them based on price, ingredients, packaging, and taste, ultimately finding the cheaper Aldi version more flavorful and satisfying.
How we all doing out there? I hope you're all coping with the heat and managing.
It's stifling isn't it? We're not used to, we're just not used to this heat. Anything near 30
degrees and we're done for. Anyway on a lovely hot sunny day I'm going to do, I'm going to eat
some lasagna. We're going to have a comparison. Come and have a look what I got. I hope you're
all absolutely spot on as well. I miss that. Too busy talking about the weather. So I thought we'd
do a comparison with Aldi versus Charlie Biggams. So we've got a specially selected lasagna al
forno. Fresh pasta sheets layered with a rich beef, pancetta and red wine ragu topped with
grana padano bechamel sauce. I might have pronounced that wrong. Probably have. Made
with 100% British beef. Well that's good isn't it? It serves one. It's got a quality food awards
bronze. Suitable for the air fryer. We've got some traffic lights all reds apart from a green.
Yes it's a lasagna. It's freezable. Used by 5th of July. I'll tell you the price in a minute.
So I picked this up, I picked this up in Aldi. Picked this up in Tesco. Yeah Charlie Biggams
lasagna. Slow cooked beef and pork ragu egg pasta parmesan bechamel. Used by 30th of June. Please
keep flat in the fridge which I have done. Fancy packaging. Oh I do like lasagna. It's got loads
of garlic bread as well and loads of cheese. Even more cheese. So the price. Cheesy like this video.
So the price. Very very different. I picked the lasagna from Aldi and it was £3.59.
I picked the one up in Tesco. Charlie Biggams. It was £6.50.
And if you've got a club card £5.50. So £2.91 difference. £2.91 difference.
Massive difference isn't it. So let's take a closer look at the packaging.
Right so we've had a. I'll tell you what I'll do. I'll get them out because it'd be easier. So that's the
the lasagna al forno from Aldi. And the Charlie Biggams comes in a fancy packaging.
Yeah look at that. That's sort of wood. Yeah. So let's have a look. 400 grams for the Aldi one.
And do we have a weight on there. 355 grams for the Charlie Biggams one. So yeah 45 grams less.
So we'll have a look at the ingredients. We'll have a look at the ingredients now.
I'll put that. It doesn't matter really. I'll put it this side. If you can zoom in you can have a look
at all them ingredients. So what have we got. 30% beef in the Aldi one. There's no percentages there
is there in the Charlie Biggams. Oh yes there is. Put the eyeballs back in. There they are.
Beef is 9%. Cheddar cheese. There's the allergens are in bold. If you want to have a look at them.
I'll just get it in shot. You can do. Yeah so that's 9% beef. We've also got smoked
bacon 6%. Pork 6% as well. And that's just beef isn't it. As far as I can see.
Got red wine in there as well. Cheese 2.5%. Yeah. So there's nutritional information.
There it is side by side. If I can get that in. Is it focusing? I think the camera's focusing.
My eyes aren't focusing. Yeah. Right. So it's a half an hour in the in the oven. I've noticed.
Cooking instructions are very small. You can do it in the air fryer if you wish to. Both of them
you can do in the air fryer. Pretty similar cooking instructions. So what we'll do. We'll
get them out of these wrappers and we'll get them in the oven. So we need to do the seal
test with this. So this comes off. You have to remove the film lid. So we'll see if we can get
it off in a wanna see if it comes off. Yeah. It will come. It's coming slowly. It's a bit.
It's a bit wet. Oh there we go. Oh no it's failed. Oh no it's failed. Oh what a nightmare.
It's failed. Oh no no sleepless night. We'll get it all off. We get all that plastic off.
I'll get it off in a minute. We'll have it. We'll have a look at this. So I think you do need
to try and get this off because you remove this as well. Yeah I can get that off.
Don't need any scissors or a knife or anything. That's fancy isn't it. Wow. It's fancy. So that's
going on a tray. I'll get that off. I'll spare that and we'll get it on a tray. We'll get the
oven. We're going in the oven. That was a bit fiddly. There's quite a lot of plastic on the
edges. I do try and get it. I like to get it all off. I don't want any going in my food.
So it's going in the oven and I'll bring you back in half an hour. So I missed this. I missed
this off before. This is the Aldi one along with the beef of 30% and the cheese of 2.5% and the
red wine of 6%. I forgot to say that smoked pancetta bacon 2.5%. So I thought I'd mention
this. On the Charlie Biggams it's got a certified B Corporation. Now I did do a little bit of
research on that and the pizza I'd done a few videos ago had the same label and basically it
lets the customer know that the product that they purchased was ethically produced. So they're
done. So I'll show you the, this is the lasagna from Aldi. Yeah. And this is the Charlie Biggams
one. So it's time to get them out. This is going to be fun isn't it. So with this one I'm just
going to sort of cut the edges sort of because it'll stick to that won't it. Get that like that
and then hopefully get this, get that in there. Hopefully, oh that, hopefully I can get it out
in a oney. Oh crikey I can. Wow. Well nearly. Goodness me. Normally it does stick. That's
come out okay that's not too bad. Get it all out. Look that clean. Of course I'm not going to
like. So this one I would imagine you'd lift the paper out with it and it'll all come out.
Yeah. Wow look at that. Yeah. So the only problem is if you take it out of there I'll get,
I'll get this knife because this is the one for this. Yeah. Yeah it's just all falling down that.
That's not going to come off as easy. So I've got, I've got this. See if I can scoop it off.
Let's see. Oh yeah I can. Oh yeah. That's come out okay that. I wasn't expecting that at all.
Yeah like see. Look that clean if you want. I'll get rid of this and I'll, I'll be back.
In the words of Arnold Schwarzenegger. Get to the chopper. Yeah so this is the Aldi one.
It's quite, quite a good lump there. It is quite a good lump. And this is, yeah this is a fair lump
as well. This is the Charlie Biggams one. So what I'll do. I'm going to chop them in half.
I'm going to cut them in half and we'll have a look inside at the layers.
We'll have a look at the layers. It's all falling down that. There they are. There's all your beef
in there look. 30% and two and a half percent pancetta. It's quite, it's quite well filled.
You've got a load of beef there as well. It's quite well filled up. I'll be, so I'll top this
one. I'll cut this down this side in half and we'll have a look at this one. Yeah. So this is
we've got a bit of carrot in there by the look of it. So it's a lot less percentages with this one.
But you get, I think you get 12% pork with it as well. But yeah it's, there's not a lot of
beef in it is there? Yeah there's not a lot in that one. There's loads of pasta. Yeah loads of
pasta and cheese but not a lot of beef. Right let's try them. So I was having a look at the
ingredients and the ingredients with the Charlie Biggams they seem to be a lot sort of a lot nicer,
a lot cleaner. Not a massive difference. But yeah with the Charlie Biggams ethically produced,
fancy packaging, you know made in small batches in my kitchen. Every dish is prepared in our
kitchen in small batches. You know certified beef. We all get bought into that don't we? Well
I don't get bought into it but a lot of people do. A lot of people do. You know it's less scrammage
and less price. You know it's £2.91 more. I've reviewed two Charlie Biggams and they've been
Biggams. Bingham Biggams. Used to live in Newark-on-Trent and Bingham was not far away.
Anyway yeah so £3.59, £6.50 or £5.50 on a club card. It's up to you at the end of the day isn't
it? So let's see how they taste. So I'm going to get stuck in to a bit of everything on this one.
It's up to you isn't it? At the end of the day you're the ones you know you're the ones spending
the money. So let's see what this is like. I have reviewed this in the past. Oh about four
years ago maybe five years ago I did a lasagna comparison. Oh it's lovely. It is. It's rich,
cheesy. That pasta's lovely and soft. I'm going in again. One more. Mmm got a bit of beef then as
well. Very very tasty. It's very very rich. It's rich. You know there's red wine in it.
It's it's it is tasty. I'm not going to deny it. It is tasty. I'll have a drink of water.
Oh and if I can before I try that if I could ask you if you've not subscribed maybe consider
subscribing or please do subscribe. I can't ask for any more than that. I do thank you very much
for it. So I'm going to try the the Charlie Big Hams. Can't even say it now. So I'll get a bit
of everything like I did on the other one. Yeah. Let's see. It's all right. I can taste the veg.
I don't mind veg. I can taste the veg. I'm going in again. I'm going to try a bit there.
Um let's try that bit there. I'm trying to get some meat. I'm trying to find some meat. There's
a bit there. Let's go in again. Completely different flavours. Completely different.
It's not as sweet. It's not as sweet as the um the Alvi one. Um I got a little bit of beef then.
The pasta's nice and soft. I've made my mind up. I've made my mind up which I prefer.
And this is just me. We're all different. We are all different out there aren't we?
I prefer the Aldi one. Richer in flavour. Sweeter. Now that's probably me because I do like my sweet
food. So I've been probably conditioned into eating sweet food all my life. And that's probably me.
That is it's okay. The Charlie Biggams is okay. It's just lacking in in in richness for me and
in flavour over this over the Aldi one. That's just my opinion. It's up to you at the end of
the day. It's up to you where you shop. What you bought into. You know what your morals are. What
you you know what you want to get out of life. How much money you've got in the bank. Which one
you're gonna buy. It's up to you at the end of the day. But I prefer prefer the the Aldi lasagna.
I know what you're saying. My palate's terrible. It's it's just I just prefer it. It's richer. It's
more tasty. Um probably more nasty ingredients in it. And but the Charlie Biggams is is tasty as
well. But I like the Aldi. I have spoken. That was on a that was on a series wasn't it? A Star Wars
series. Can you name the series? There you go there's a question. I have spoken. Um right thanks for
watching. Sweating now. I'm starting to really sweat. I'm gonna open the doors now. Thing is you open the
back door and you let even more heat in don't you? Yeah. So please let me know what you think in the
comments. Yeah you're paying £2.91 more. It's up to you at the end of the day. You're the one
buying it. So thanks for watching and subscribing like I said earlier. Thank you. So please if you've
got any recommendations keep them coming in. I'm on Facebook and Instagram as well.
And I'll get back to on the next one. All the best.
