What's the Best New Foundation for Mature Skin? I Tested Them.

I think beauty brands have finally realized
that a lot of women aren't looking
for more coverage anymore.
They're actually looking for better looking skin.
Now, that doesn't mean that we don't want coverage.
It just means that coverage has to look natural up close.
It can't look cakey, heavy, dry, or obvious.
And that's why we're steadily seeing serum foundations,
complexion balms, and even skincare makeup
hybrid products everywhere.
Today, I'm testing four of the most viral foundations
that the mature beauty community have been talking about
to see which one delivers the best combination
of coverage, texture, finish, and wear.
And at the end, I'll break down exactly
which foundation is best for us
so that you can find the right one
for your skin and makeup preferences.
So let's get started.
So the first thing we're gonna do
is we are gonna set ourselves up for success
with these products that we're testing.
And how are we gonna do that?
You guys know we're gonna do that
by doing a really good skincare base
because the base really matters
when you are talking about foundation.
So the skincare line that I am using today
is all by the brand Mimua.
This is a phenomenal Korean skincare brand
that sits at a really good price point.
You can buy it on Amazon and it's truly, honestly amazing.
Today, I'm gonna prep with my new favorite prep product
and it is the Moisture Fortress 50% beta-glucan serum.
So beta-glucan is a beautiful ingredient
because it's actually more hydrating than hyaluronic acid
and it's super, super soothing.
It also has 2% niacinamide,
which is really nice for preventing dark spots
and 1% centella asianica,
which is great for soothing inflammation.
So if your skin feels dehydrated, reactive,
or it's just really stressed out,
this is a really nice all around serum.
It can even be used on very, very sensitive skin.
In fact, if you have reactive skin,
I almost encourage you more to try it
because of the centella asianica and the beta-glucan.
It's gonna do a really nice job of hydrating
and calming and soothing everything down.
Look at how plumped up my skin just got.
It's crazy, it's amazing.
Now, if your biggest concern is volume loss,
Mimua also has their Time Block line,
which contains an ingredient called volufilin.
Have you guys ever heard of volufilin before?
It's been getting like a lot of attention lately
because it's being studied for its ability
to help increase volume in the skin.
And as we get older and start losing volume
in areas like under the eyes and in the cheeks,
that becomes something that a lot of us
become interested in.
I have so much volume loss here
that you can see where my cheekbone is
and where my eye begins.
Do you see that like demarcation?
That's because I've had so much volume loss
here under the eyes.
So volufilin, like sign me up.
I've been using this for several months now.
This is the second bottle that I've used.
And I really do find that it is helping create
a bit of a softer transition
between my under eye and my cheekbone.
Both the Time Block serum and the Time Block cream
contain 5% volufilin, which is the amount that you want.
The serum also contains 40% beta-glucan
while the cream combines 20% beta-glucan
with six peptides and volufilin.
So if volume loss is your main concern,
I would look at the Time Block products for your skin prep.
If you're mainly looking for hydration
and for soothing benefits,
then I would go for the Moisture Fortress serum.
Or you can be like me and you can buy all three
and you can use whichever one you feel like
you need to on that day, you know,
depending on what's going on.
They do all work really well together too.
All right, let's start with this guy.
This is the Clarins Double Serum Foundation.
And this is such an interesting foundation.
I've been using it all weekend and I have so many thoughts.
Okay, what makes this interesting
is that this is 2 3rds makeup and 1 3rd serum.
So you have a skincare base and you have your makeup base
and they mix together.
Now, when you pump it on your hand, it's dual phase, see?
So you can see that it comes out at the same time,
but it's separated.
And then you mix it together and apply it.
Now on the Clarins website,
they claim that this has medium to full coverage,
which I was really shocked about
because usually serum foundations like this
are light coverage that can be maybe built up to medium,
but definitely not to full.
And it has a luminous satin finish,
which is absolutely accurate.
It's not so glowy that you look like an oil slick,
but it's definitely not matte either.
One thing that I noticed that a lot of creators were saying
is that when you dial this down,
you're getting more serum, less foundation,
and that's why it's light coverage.
When you dial it up,
you're getting more foundation, less serum,
and that's why it's more coverage.
If that was true, what would happen,
say you're a full coverage gal,
you're gonna run out of foundation before serum.
If you're a light coverage gal,
you're gonna run out of serum, right?
Because you're gonna have more serum, less foundation.
That's actually not how it works.
And it's a huge misconception
because there are so many creators saying that.
Like most of the reels that I watched said that,
and I was like, huh, but that's actually not true.
The way that this works is just the amount of product
overall is gonna change when you pump it.
You're gonna get more or less,
but the ratio is gonna stay the same.
So just be aware of that.
So I'm only gonna do half my face in the studio lighting
because I wanna do the other half in natural light
so that you guys can see it from a more natural perspective
because we have soft boxes here.
It softens things out, right?
As a makeup artist,
I'm very excited to show you this product.
This is the new Clarins Double Serum Foundation.
It's a skincare hybrid.
So still use your double serum
because that's gonna treat your skin over time.
And then the foundation will help to enhance
and perfect throughout the day.
So on this side,
I've used a dense brush to give medium to full coverage
and the other I've started applying along my jaw
and then I've worked up with a damp beauty blender
to give more of a daytime look.
And as a medium to full coverage foundation,
it feels very lightweight on the skin
and I think it looks very natural.
Let me know your thoughts.
Here's how the Clarins Double Serum Foundation looks
with the full face done in studio lighting.
So before I give you my full thoughts on these,
let's see what people are saying online.
So there were a lot of good reviews,
but there were some misses too.
Normally I mix my double serum in my Dewar foundation
to get a smooth finish.
So I thought this would be perfect,
but something's wrong.
I'm sorry to find the new Clarins foundation
shows my pores.
That's so interesting
because I have some larger pores here in my nose
and I'm really not finding that is accentuating my pores.
I also have some larger pores here
in the center of my face
and I'm not really finding it's doing that either.
I actually have a little scar here that looks like a pore
and it's not really accentuating that either.
I find this looks very, very skin-like,
but then there were lots of really good reviews too,
like this one.
Really a nice foundation,
perfect for mature or drier skin.
A little goes a long way,
but you could build for fuller coverage.
Absolutely agree.
Holy grail, love this foundation for mature skin.
It makes it look so soft and smooth,
really soften fine lines and wrinkles
and also my enlarged pores.
I think it's actually an incredible foundation.
I think the texture is very unique.
I think it's really cool
that you can kind of disperse a little bit less
or disperse more,
depending on how much you want to build it up.
It definitely has a glowy finish,
but I do find that it does like dry down so that it stays.
It's not super short wearing.
You know what I mean?
Okay, the next one is this one.
This is the It Cosmetics Do It All Sheer Tint Face Balm.
Have you guys seen this?
This is everywhere.
I cannot believe how many people
are talking about this online.
This is a sheer but buildable coverage.
You can see that.
And it has a radiant finish.
It's not a luminous satin.
It's radiant.
Luminous satin I find dries down a little bit more.
On the website,
they describe this as a balm to serum texture.
And I definitely am getting that.
It looks like a balm in the pot,
but then when you blend it out,
it does blend out into what can only be described
as a serum.
This really feels like tinted skincare.
Oh my gosh.
Welcome back to Skin Tint Tuesdays
where we're trying skin tints on real skin.
Oh, that's a different vibe.
Wow.
Okay.
Wow.
Here's half my face with
and half my face without in studio lighting.
This is how my full face looks in studio light.
And this is how my full face looks with it
in natural lighting.
Reviews, reviews.
As a woman with mature skin,
I have to say,
I love this foundation.
It gives a luminous glow,
does not feel heavy or tight on your skin.
It's very moisturizing and light,
yet coverage is good.
It does not settle into fine lines.
I agree with almost all of that for me.
I don't find that it settles in fine lines at all.
Like if you look at my lines around my eyes,
like if I really squished them
and then I release them,
if I did that with concealer,
you'd get the little marks.
You're not getting marks.
See, like it really does not settle,
which is really, really, really nice.
It does not feel heavy or tight on the skin.
The one thing that I don't agree with
is I don't think it really covers anything.
It's not claiming to cover anything, you know?
It's a sheer tint face balm.
92% skincare serum.
It's skincare first.
It is a little bit damp for me
because I have oily skin.
I know a lot of you guys don't.
It never dries down,
so it's not long wearing.
Our next product is the Laura Mercier Tinted Blur Balm.
So everyone, as you can see,
is obsessed with a glowy serum foundation right now,
but Laura Mercier actually went
in the complete opposite direction.
This is a skin tint and a blurring balm hybrid
that's designed to blur pores and texture
and has a balm to powder formula.
So this has a sheer to light medium buildable coverage.
Okay, so we're not expecting this
to be a fuller coverage foundation.
It is quite sheer.
I'm gonna show you this new foundation.
You can literally do your face in a minute.
It's absolutely unreal.
It is just the most beautiful balm to powder foundation
that makes your skin look like skin.
You can't even tell I'm applying it
because that's how well it's melting into my skin.
You see how it covered all my freckles,
but it still looks like skin.
I so agree with Glamzilla.
I think this is a phenomenal foundation.
Crazy thing about it is that when you put it on,
it's like you're not putting anything on.
It's kind of weird,
because you're like, wow, this isn't really doing anything,
but it's doing everything without it looking like anything.
So if I just take it off with a wipe, do you see that?
Like that's with it, that's without it,
but you can't even really tell the separation.
Guys, Laura Mercier hit it out of the park with this.
This is such an amazing foundation, perfection.
This stuff is amazing, buildable coverage, great finish.
Looks like your skin, but better, my third purchase.
I wouldn't necessarily say this is buildable coverage,
but you can put concealer on it
so that you have more coverage.
The main complaint is this.
It's a great product, but so little of it.
Honestly, the product itself is lovely.
Beautiful color, coverage, texture, staying power.
Would love to give it five stars,
but for the price,
it's ridiculous how little product you get.
Not sure it's worth the cost.
Of every review I read,
and I read reviews for hours yesterday
preparing for this video,
almost every negative review basically said
that they loved the product,
but hated that it was so small.
You get five grams here.
I could see you hitting pan real quick
if you're using this a lot,
because you do kind of really need to use it
to make it work for you, because it is a bomb.
If budget isn't a problem for you,
I think you should definitely try it.
Now, this was designed specifically
for people who hate foundation sticks.
And why do people hate foundation sticks, you ask?
Because a lot of times foundation sticks are super dry
and they look hideous.
Especially on dry skin or mature skin,
foundation sticks can be a problem.
So this claims to have medium to full buildable coverage
with a natural satin finish.
And it's supposed to look like your skin, but better,
which is the same for all of these.
That's kind of the same marketing positioning
that all of these brands took with these products.
The only thing with Jones Road that I have a beef with
is that I feel like every single product
is made for like very dehydrated skin.
Like the What The Foundation is so greasy.
It's beautiful, but it is so greasy that I can't wear it.
Like I really can't.
Someone with oilier skin,
even some women that I know who have dry skin,
who are mature say that it's still too wet looking
for the summer.
And that's a constant complaint on their website.
I find that all their products are that way.
Like their tinted moisturizer is the same.
It's nice, it's just too wet.
Dammit Jones Road, it's just too wet.
Why are all the products so wet?
Make a complexion product that is like slightly less wet
so that more people can use it.
This is the new Jones Road Your Skin Foundation Stick.
My skin is really red today, so let's see how it looks.
This says that it's a buildable foundation.
So I'm just gonna start swiping it onto my skin.
For lighter coverage, you can blend this out
with your finger, or you can swipe it first
and then blend it out with a brush.
This one is a much different formulation
than the What The Foundation.
This formula gives your skin a really nice glow.
You can also add layers to build it up.
This is how my skin looks half done in studio lighting.
This is giving Vaseline.
You know what I'm saying?
Like it's giving Vaseline.
Look at this, five out of five, terrific foundation.
So easy to apply and blend, melts into the skin,
and evens out skin without looking like heavy makeup.
True, it does do that.
But then, here, one star.
I love the What The Foundation,
so I thought I'd try to carry this in my purse.
It didn't work for me.
It amplified my pores, lines, and wrinkles.
Disappointed.
That actually surprises me,
because I really don't find
that it amplifies wrinkles and pores at all.
I just, you know, I just find it like a Vaseline stick.
Was so looking forward to the stick foundation.
It does not dry down,
and it does not even give light coverage.
I agree with Linda C.
It does not dry down.
And I would not say it gives coverage.
Is it smooth?
Yes.
Is it hydrating?
Yes.
If you have very dry skin, you want a natural finish,
you'll probably like it.
It just, yeah, it just doesn't ever really set.
Kind of like this.
This never really sets either.
But this feels, this is more Vaseline-y.
I don't know.
So I created a shopping chart for you guys
that you can now stop the video and screenshot
if you want some help knowing what to choose
and which one's best for you.
Because like I said,
everything depends on who's wearing it.
So you might like something that I don't like.
I might like something that you don't like.
So hopefully this chart will kind of demystify
all of the features that you can choose
the best one for you.
In terms of for me, this is how I would rank it.
Laura Mercier would come in as number one.
The Clarins Double Serum Foundation
would come in as number two.
These are almost tied for one,
but I would have to say this one is number one
because it really is unique and very, very cool.
The It Cosmetics Do It All would come in as number three.
And then we would do the Jones Road
Your Skin Foundation Stick as numero four.
If you want me to compare Dollar Tree
versus drugstore favorites,
you can watch that video right here,
or you can watch this video
that YouTube thinks that you'll enjoy.
I'll see you over there.
