We cover the details of this finely preserved 1969 Mustang Mach 1. Like the comfort weave front buckets , wood grain door panels, factory tach , lap timer (yes it had a factory lap timer). We take a look under the hood of this beauty and see the torquey 428 CJ in all its glory and ram air functional scoop. And yes we get to go drive the beast.
If you wanna skip to the good stuff - we test drive the Mach 1 at 4:25 in this epic video. And the chase scene is also saved for the end. Steve McQueen would have be proud.

In this episode of Disrepair, today I've got a special car I want to show you.
I'm not going to spoil the surprise, just like Ford did when they introduced it on April
Fool's Day 1968.
Alright, well let's take a look at your car.
Come on in.
So tell me about the history of the car.
Why did you buy a car like this?
Well, I had a 351 Windsor initially.
And it was just a little underpowered for what I wanted.
I ended up finding this in an old airplane hangar just north of town.
It was completely covered in bird poop.
Totally.
So the very first place we went after we purchased it is the car wash.
Okay.
Well it looks great.
Did you guys have to repaint it?
Or is it just the paint that you guys had on it?
No, it's had this paint since the 1980s.
It was repainted and we just buffed it and brought out its shine.
What makes a Mach 1 a Mach 1 as opposed to just a regular Mustang?
Mach 1, special sports performance, sports roof, Mustang.
So the Mach 1 actually came out in 69, but the Cobra Jet was introduced in 68.
So it came with a flat black hood and an optional shaker.
Ours is an R-Code, so it's got the shaker hood.
Hood pins, rocker moldings, side stripe, deluxe interior.
So you get the whole package.
Yeah.
So Ford actually built this as a street legal racer, but I've actually drag raced it quite
a bit.
So here's my sister-in-law right here and she's racing.
It kicks ass.
Ford actually made this.
They wanted a street legal racer, but they also wanted it to dominate the track.
And right underneath that wind tunnel is the 428 cubic inch knuckle buster that makes it
all happen.
They advertise it at 335 horsepower plus 445 foot pounds of torque at 3400 RPM.
So it was initially rated at 335 horsepower, but they intentionally underrated it for class
ratings and insurance purposes.
And to beat Chevrolet?
Absolutely.
So since ours is an R-Code, we've got the shaker hood, the air conditioning, power steering,
power brakes, and it comes equipped with a four-seat.
Tell me about the interior.
Sure.
We've got the RimBlow steering wheel, bucket seats, wood grain, console, we've got the
fold-down back seat, and factory tack, and also our clock comes with an actual lap timer
on it too.
Can you tell me about the stripes?
So they're actually reflective, so headlights and stuff will reflect off of them and they
glow.
What identifies a Mach 1 as a Mach 1 from the rear of the car?
So you again have the reflective stripe that says Mach 1, you've got a fold-down gas cap,
and dual-tipped exhaust.
Okay.
The car looks mostly original.
Is there anything that you modified from the original?
Sure.
I added Magnum 500 wheels, a chin spoiler, Flowmasters, an aggressive comp cam, and I
changed out to a Hurst shifter, which actually was introduced in 1970.
