The MOST FAMOUS RIVER CAVE in Laos | Kong Lor Cave - Thakhek Loop

Hello and welcome back to Travels on Toast. We've just woken up and we are at the entry of Konglo Cave. What's happening here? 65 per person. 65 per person so that's about like under seven dollars. Yeah it's pretty good. Apparently the cave, I just spoke to the guys, is like over seven kilometers in one way. So it takes you just over an hour to get just one way. So it's gonna be pretty exciting. So this is the entry to Konglo Cave and I imagine before it used to be full of tourists. I'm guessing it hosts a lot of people here. But I mean you can have lunch here. Where do we park? I have no idea. I'm just driving to the end of everything. But yeah this place was like built so there would be loads of tourism, like loads of stores, loads of food places when you're coming in. But obviously it's all dead. It's only locals and there's a lot of trash surprisingly which is a shame. I can see some right in front of me already, just piles of trash. But hey hopefully the cave will be better than that. Yeah can I have the tickets? I'm gonna go find the guy, see where we can find our boat ride. So Mario just stopped us in our tracks because he's seen a... what bird is it? It's a hornbill. Hornbill. It's one of the rarer ones as well. It's pretty impressive. This beak is huge. No it just looks majestic as hell. I've never seen a bird like that before. It's shaking his head. I'm actually stroking this bird. I can't believe I'm stroking it. What? I'm actually stroking the bird. It's me stroking the bird. Like I've never been... I always wanted to see a hornbill in real life and guess what? I'm actually touching one now. I'm actually just touching one. Oh he's holding your hand. Be careful though. Don't want to lose your finger in Laos. That's really cool. You gotta love Laos man. Wow. So we went to a second ticket office and gave in our tickets and he gave us a headlight and then I gave him over and gave us a life jacket. So now we're all kitted out. Mario's getting the last shots of the bird. Yeah I just can't get enough of it. It looks too cool man. It's my first time seeing these kind of birds in my life. I've never seen them. I've seen them in documentaries and I was like am I gonna see them in Laos one day? We've been here for over a year, still haven't seen one and there you go. Now we've seen one. Just there. And when the locals like make a noise like... are they like dances or moves? It's crazy. Okay are you ready? I'm ready. Yeah I think so. The guides told us it's time to go so we're gonna go find our boat. You can actually swim here. When we finish the cave we might do that. I feel like such a tourist right now. I know. I love it though. I mean we are on a holiday so why the hell not? You can sit in the river here. Get your feet wet while you eat your lunch. That's pretty cool. Beer Lao? Already? A bit too early I think. It's not even nine o'clock yet. While we're going in the cave. Wow this place is beautiful. I'm just gonna show you what we're looking at right now. So you can swim here and then look at the view over here and I think the entrance is somewhere over there. If you want you can come here before, get your breakfast. She's selling some barbecue and probably balut egg. Just getting closer to the cave I can already feel like the coolness coming. Like a really cool wind. Look how many butterflies there is man. What? What? It's a lot of butterflies man. So this place is literally loaded with nature. Like I've just been stroking like a hornbill. I've been stroking a hornbill man. Like what? You know what I mean? So we're right next to the cave right now. This is the entry pretty much across this bush. I can already like feel some strange energy in here. You know there's a lot of like vibes here. I feel like sort of like not nervous but sort of like something's gonna happen man. So yeah looking forward to this. Whoa that's a big cave. That's one big cave for sure. Wow it really opens up a lot. Wow look at this. It's pretty impressive. And that's where we're getting the boats from. It's like pitch black. And it's really cold. I cannot believe that we're gonna go into that and it's gonna come out another side and it's gonna be like an hour to get to the other side. Like that gives you an idea of how big that cave is. How excited? Are you excited? Oh yeah come on. I'm ready. This is crazy though. Like you're going on the motor motor boats because it's really far away. So I have no idea what's there but I can feel like an intense wind is blowing all the way from the entry of the cave. It's crazy though man. It's really refreshing though for Laos. It's like the coldest it's been. So Olivia's just getting in now. We still don't see anything in front of me. I have no idea where we're going though. We're going in the darkness. Yeah it's pretty scary. How fast do you think we're going? We're walking now. There's loads of sand. It's like it's like being on a beach but inside a cave. It's the most trippiest spot I've ever been. Where are we coming now? It looks like a museum. And the weirdest thing is all of this is natural. I know right. There's like tiny little, what are they called? Icicles? Daggers? On the roof. I hope they don't fall. I've seen some creepy ass bugs every now and then beneath my feet. I'm not going to ask what they are. I'm just going to keep walking. But this is just insane. So beautiful. I'm already recommending this to everyone. I feel like a lot of rocks have fallen down from the roof ceiling down here. For some reason I feel like I'm in Flintstones in the bedrock town. You know bedrock town right? It does look like that. I mean look at these formations there. Beautiful. It took millions of years to build something like this. Look at these formations here and over there. I'm just like walking and there's like more and more and more. I mean look at these. How beautiful this is right? So you can see how these beautiful formations are getting formed. This is the beginning of it. So that's probably just like a few million years old. It takes a few more to build these beautiful structures like these ones. Wow. Way down here it says we should go down here. I know it stretches for ages over there. Way down. So we should go this way. Maybe it's closed or maybe sketchy or something. You can see the drops falling and literally how they're forming right in front of your eyes but obviously over many many years. But now we're getting back in the boat and we're going to drive a bit more. I've no idea where we're going. Just deeper into the cave I guess. Pretty excited to see where where we'll end up next. Pushing us out. His job must be pretty cool. Just taking people through a cave every day and a cave this beautiful. So the water is really really low. Like you can probably walk through the cave or most of it but obviously it'll take you a long time. Like look at this. See the bottom there. Guys moving us. We're losing the engine. I hope not. We have to come back a long way back. Lean lean lean. Lean to this side of it. Try and keep your weight in the middle. So everybody else over there got out of the boat and the guy pushed it but this guy was like nah we're just gonna go straight through. Stay on the boat. Let's take over everyone. But it's at a risk. We nearly lost the engine. It's a shame you guys can't see it but you have no idea how tall is the ceiling. Everything looks so enormous. I don't even think we can. No you can't see it like it's a shame that the camera can't capture it but like it's really really high up there and yeah. The feeling itself you feel like in literally a massive cathedral. So there's more people just coming back probably from the gate and we can see the way out. Yo this is it. That was a long way. So we're literally on the other side of the mountain now. So nice and quiet now. So this is a rapid here. This is why we had to get out I think. Yeah and also it's because we're at the end as well so we're gonna get off there I think. So the guys are trying to pull up the boat and it's not an easy task. I really feel bad for just standing here and not doing anything but they rather us not to do anything. We have arrived. How are you feeling? What a trip man. This was amazing. Very beautiful. Very nice. That was literally insane. It's a shame that we didn't have like the professional gear to film like everything because you couldn't see anything you know on the camera in the cave but that's why you have to come here for yourself to experience it for yourself because it's just there's no camera to capture this. So we've come out the other side. I think we wait here stay here for like half an hour walk around chill and then we go back the way we came but that was just. I mean we have so many more adventures to go so we sort of like on a time you know. Yeah so much to do today but this is wow I nearly cried when we came out of that opening. Just the beauty of the place. A tear came to my eye literally. Oh man and there's so much nature like insects and everything like you don't realize how much you don't see that today in the world until you come to somewhere like this and you realize how much you're missing out on. This is insane. Right so now that we're under the side of Konglo cave we are literally in the middle of national biodiversity park and we're looking at this little thing that says what kind of animals they have and obviously we saw this already Sam is choking it. Then they have like all kinds of gibbons, langurs, some really really rare and massive spiders. They are huge these spiders are like huge man and like all kinds of different animals. Real life-size drawing. Oh so that's the real life-size drawing. Oh my gosh it's really big. It's big yeah. Oh and the Laotian rock rat. I think one of our subscribers mentioned about the Laotian rock rat living here. We haven't seen that though. There's also like a lot of types of like birds and pangolins. I mean look at all these cool little looking animals civets. Definitely seen the buffalo. Wow so beautiful and obviously some tropical plants that you probably can't find anywhere else but here. It looks pretty cool. So much stuff here like there's so much nature so much wilderness. The first thing you come in you look around a lot there's not much a few mountains and jungle but dude you're like literally in the middle of wild. If you go get lost there you're probably not coming back alive. We're stopping for a little break drinking a snack. You can probably guess what Mario's drinking. We just don't care. We're on a holiday. I just saw this guy who was going with us on the same trip so having a beer I was like you know what I'm gonna have one as well because like he's happy Everybody's doing it so why am I not gonna. It is Pmai. It's half past 10 in the morning but it's new year who cares. I woke up really early. It's like afternoon for us in our minds. So we're about to head back to the boat and go back. It's only because we have to check out by like 12 o'clock which is like an hour and a half and it's just another hour back that way with the boat. The vibes in here like you can hear the traditional music in the background. It's just like surrounded by nature and I've looked in google maps. We're literally in the very middle of the national park like it's all just wilderness like apparently there's like wild asian elephants. There's like leopards and monkeys gibbons man you name it. It's like the real pure wilderness here. So if it was my choice I would stay here for like probably like a few days. Look how they live here. This is where they cook their food. Just here in this beautiful traditional Laotian kitchen. Like proper jungle vibes man. Like look at the architecture of these things. It's just like all handmade right in the heart of the jungle. Awesome. I just saw a group of Lao guys playing cards over there and over there you can do a hike apparently. Yeah I wouldn't be surprised. So much to do here guys. You have to come. But like I said previously unfortunately we're gonna have to bounce because we have to check out but hey the adventure is not over. I feel like this is a comeback to place though. Oh yeah for sure. I would definitely do that. I think you'd need to come here to the entire Taekwondo club. Do it for like at least like a month. I don't know how people do it in five days. We've heard people doing it in like five days and it's like dude this is impossible. We took this. We were thinking of doing it in two weeks and we're just about managing it. Luckily we've done quite a big part of it like a year ago so we don't have to do this part this time but five days man it's totally not enough. There's no way you can do that. Right so we're just during about an hour away from Konglo cave back to the village where we stayed one of our first few days. Yeah we're back in Nahin at the viewpoint which looks amazing but we are actually heading to another village called Laksan now but we just wanted to quickly summarize our experience at Konglo because it was pretty epic. Yeah we felt so overexcited that we didn't even have time to kind of tell you guys a bit more about like the place and a bit more information. So Konglo cave it's actually over seven kilometers long cave and you come out on the other side of like the national park and the only way you can get on the other side is just literally trekking or cycling or taking the cave taking the boat so you can't drive there with the car you know. You can pay to get your motorbike taken through but it's like nearly 30 dollars which is quite a lot. And yeah it's if you're going like and if you're not gonna come back this way but we decided to come back because we're gonna skip a lot of things if we go that way so we didn't want to miss anything right so that's why they decided to just come back here and finish up this part of the loop. But there's a lot of stuff to do there and the cave is a must see if you're ever in Laos or near the Takek area it's really beautiful. I know wish we had like all this professional gear to actually film better because you can't really see anything in the cave like the altitude of the ceiling like the size of it it felt like a massive cathedral it was just like completely next level. It felt like a different planet to me. I know right it was really good though but yeah we really enjoyed it and I hope you guys enjoyed it as well.
