Hello! Welcome to the new channel that I've created called Jamila. This channel is
unfiltered, unedited version of me. This free flow of inspiration that I have when ideas just
come to my mind and I really want to share it with you in this unfiltered, honest and sometimes
vulnerable way. There are a lot of things that have inspired me, motivated me. It could be from
quotes to books to thoughts to biographies of people that have inspired me, experiences that
I've gone through that have changed who I am and I think to a better version of me. So this channel
is sharing all of that in this unedited and filtered way where you get to see me as I am
in person, albeit online, but you get to hear my thoughts in this unfiltered way.
I still will have the other channel going on as well, Jamila Musaeva, which is about etiquette,
self-development and lifestyle sometimes. This is a different channel where it's just me talking
and not really showing much, but really sharing my ideas about life and in this moment it's like a
virtual diary for me where I leave my thoughts, but my goal is rather to inspire those that are
listening to aspire for a better life. One of my biggest fears, and I've said this in one of the
podcasts that I've done, is that I fear that I will not live to my fullest potential.
I know that we are born with different potentials. Everyone has their own ultimate ceiling,
but I think the majority of us are living life in such a safe way. We're not even
attaining or achieving half of what we're capable of doing because of the fears, because of the
beliefs limiting that we have in our heads. I've had those and I think I still do in some ways and
hopefully through this exchange of thoughts I'm able to inspire you and you're going to give that
support and love to me so I'm able to get rid of those beliefs as well. But I think
it's really important that we live the life in such a way that we don't feel like we haven't
reached our fullest potential, that we are able to live and enjoy life like we were brought to
this world to do. So I hope that my channel helps you, but in the process I also hope that
you're going to help me to go through experiences that I'm going through and observe my journey and
hopefully my journey will also serve as an inspiration to you. So I've asked a few of you
what would you think that I should start my channel with and some of you said books, some of you
said lifestyle things and many of you actually said your own thoughts. That was my go-to. I
was thinking of again sharing my thoughts, but it was very uplifting to know that many of you
would love to hear my thoughts on things. So I will try to still keep this channel educational.
I'm not just going to blabber about anything. I'm going to try to make sure that every
single video inspires you to take an action in your life, to start your better life today.
So this video, the very first one, is about the quotes that I came across many, many years ago.
I want to say about eight, nine, maybe more years ago and I still at that point did not have my
YouTube channel. I did not have an open public Instagram page because of many beliefs that I had
that you're not allowed to have. I mean it's not good for a girl to have an open Instagram.
It's not good for a girl to have an open YouTube channel. I had all those beliefs despite being
educated in the United States and in Belgium. But I was scared. I was scared of what people
would say, how my family would react. So I did have those fears that I were actually
not really justified. They're just in my head. And so overcoming this fear was a quote I came
along while reading something. And I think at that moment my heart and my soul was searching
for an answer or for a calling. And I'm someone who has been very intuitive all my life and I've
been seeing signs everywhere and looking for those signs. So this quote came to me at the
right time in my life where I needed that stirring, that push, that force that would awaken
my desires. And the quote said, one day or day one. And maybe to some people that have come across
this quote, it meant nothing. They just didn't feel anything. They just read and went through.
But because I was contemplating whether I want to make that leap jump into a new level of me,
new lifestyle that I want to have, new career path that I want to pursue, this quote came to
me at the right time and spoke volumes to me despite being so terse. It's just two lines,
one day or day one. Essentially what that quote means, and I have talked about this quote before
and there were some people that said, what does it even mean? Sorry, I was looking at the microphone
to see if it still works and now I'm just like talking to myself. And the quote basically means
day one, that means day one of starting whatever you've been putting off your whole life,
or one day, meaning one day hopefully I'll do that. Because so many of us, including myself,
go through life thinking, okay, I want to start dancing, I want to start biking, I want to start
swimming, I want to start learning a new language, playing piano. I will one day do it, one day do it,
one day do it. And we wait for these perfect timing, these circumstances to be magically
excellent for everything to work out for us to start doing what we have always dreamt about
doing. And that moment never comes because life happens and things in life happen and you never
get a timing, you never get time to do something unless you make time for it. And that's something
I've learned as well over the years, especially after being a mother to kids that as a mother,
as an entrepreneur, as a writer, I'm able to achieve a lot more than if I didn't have anything
of those to do. Because then you have the whole day to dedicate to whatever and time expands to
take the amount of time that it wants to have. So when you allocate time for things to do,
you always have time. So making time is essential for having time. And so we keep on postponing
things thinking, okay, one day I'll do it, one day when I'm done with this and done with that,
I'll start dedicating time to myself. But then life goes on and life is too short. And then you
wake up one day realizing you've just lived all your dreams in your head without actually even
given a chance to yourself to try something. And one day, instead of thinking about one day,
you make that one day. So you make tomorrow or today your day one of that activity. So instead
of saying one day I'll do it, make it day one. So if you have always wanted to take piano classes,
instead of postponing it forever, you schedule a class, you get a piano or you talk to a tutor,
you go to a music class, you sign up for a music class, you take the action to make that day your
first day of taking your piano class. Some people say, and I agree in some cases that the first step
is the hardest. It is true in some most cases, it's the hardest because we keep on postponing.
But sometimes where we're super motivated, like in that on that day, we're super inspired to
start learning, say Spanish, we sign up to a class, we show up the first class,
it's usually that the people that are super motivated, they're very good with the first
action. They're really good at starting something. They're really good at taking
that first initiative step. But then it goes downhill from there onwards, because it's not
as easy as they thought it would be, or not as interesting as they thought it would be.
And the learning process in the beginning is never interesting. I think it was in a book of
Atomic Habits that the writer said that, you know, you have to get used to the dullness of repetition.
And through that dull repetition, you get to excel, you get to become better at something,
be it sports, be it music, be it language, be it a skill that you need to want to learn,
whatever it is. So it's not that anyone who does something super professionally,
they've loved every single day of workout, they loved every single day of practicing piano,
no one does. But it's despite of it being dull, they keep on going, and they get to a level that
we're not able to basically stand through that dullness to attain that greatness.
So I think making day one and deciding for yourself that today is going to be your day
one of an action taking, of starting what you've always postponed, or, you know,
applying to the job that you've always wanted to have or moving to a country that you've always
dreamt of living. It's the most, how do I say it, empowering feeling. I remember that the more I
postponed doing things that I've always wanted to do, the less confident I was, more fearful I was.
I didn't really believe that I was capable of doing things because I haven't done anything that
I've always wanted to do. In a way, I felt like I was sabotaging myself, but in a process
I was disempowering myself. So I need to take a sip of water, I'm very sorry.
I think this is live and this needs to be recorded because I don't talk too long at once.
So I think that with taking that first initial step and making something your day one,
you are empowering yourself and you are allowing yourself to believe that you can do anything that
you put your mind into. And that is such a confident building thing. The more I checked
off the list of the things I've always wanted to do in my life, the more I was able to show up and
make day one of any activity that I've always wanted to do, the more I started believing that
anything I want to do, I can do. I get a lot of questions when I share stuff on Instagram where
I do dance class, I do, for example, I swim, I horseback ride or started learning how to
horseback ride, I started learning how to ski. So all these activities that I'm doing and people
are saying, how do you have time to all these hobbies? How are you able to take up so many
things? And you're so multi-talented. I don't think I'm multi-talented, actually. I just think
I'm someone who is very curious. I have a very curious mind. I want to try things. And with
being able to make everything day one of the activity I've always wanted to learn,
I have actually created this locomotive of energy that is allowing me to do other activities.
So once I've learned how to bike, which happened when I was like 28, I already had my kids.
And so prior to that, I've never learned how to bike. I lived in Washington DC for four years.
I did my undergraduate at George Washington University. And I remember how everyone would
bike around, they would take bicycles and do a night tour around the Washington Monument. And I
was so jealous, not in a negative sense, but I really wanted to do it too. And I was like,
why they're doing this? I want to do it too. But I was scared to try to learn it there because
a friend of mine actually started learning how to bike in the United States. And she fell a few
times. And I was scared of falling and something happening to me and me having to go to a hospital.
So I had all these crazy fears in my head. I'll miss school. I'll have to go back to my home
country who is going to take care of me. So I was like, I'm going to go home and learn how to bike.
Then I went to do my master's in Belgium in a little town called Bruges. And everyone biked
there. There's really not a lot of cars there. And even if you want to get a car, a cab, you
actually have to call for a car from a nearby town like Antwerpen or anywhere around to come
and pick you. So it's not like cars are everywhere. There are a lot of carriages with horses and
bikes. And I was the one who had to walk because I didn't know how to bike. And I didn't want to
risk learning biking in a little town that was always super rainy and had this cobblestone
streets. I didn't want to risk it because some of the friends that I had in my dorm that knew how
to bike really well, they actually fell. And so they got injured. And that has been created more
fear in me. So I was like, no, no, no, I'm going to learn it when I go home. I come home, I get to
know a gentleman, I get married to him. So I'm pregnant, I have one kid and another kid. So
basically, I didn't have time to learn how to bike. And then I was like, okay, that's enough.
I want to learn how to bike because I see people biking on a boulevard in Baku. I see people biking
in Maldives or like in islands that they go to. And it's so nice. Everyone gets their own bike
with their name. I want to be able to experience that. So I learned how to bike and I actually
learned it quite fast. I think I learned it within like three, four days, but it took much longer.
So I was able to hold onto the bike and actually ride a bike. But it really took, I think, months
and months of actually practicing to be able to maneuver it. So I was just biking in one direction
and the other, I would have to stop, turn my bike around, get on it and then ride it. But the more
I was able to feel the bike, the more confident I became. And so I learned how to bike in my like
late twenties. And then I started learning how to ski because I always wanted to learn how to ski.
And since I learned how to bike, it made me believe that now I can learn how to ski.
Since I learned how to ski, I'm not a great skier. I think I'm quite mediocre. I would say like
a little bit, I mean, somewhere between beginner and intermediate. It takes me a few days to get
back to it. I thought I want to learn how to horseback ride. And because I've learned how to
ski in my late twenties, early thirties, I thought, okay, now I can learn how to horseback ride in my
thirties. And so that really creates this belief. I was able to do that late, much later on than
everyone else that I can learn something else. And, um, one of my mottos in life is also,
I keep on saying this on my Instagram and everywhere where I go, it's never too late.
I tell it to everyone because I, myself, an example of it's never too late. It's never too
late to learn anything. And if you make your today, your day one of whatever you want to learn,
say you're now in your forties watching this in 10 years time, by the age of 50, you're going to
master what you have always postponed of doing. So say you've never gone to a musical school and
musical school is usually what, like five, six years, um, of say university. And it takes five,
six years for someone to learn how to play. Say, say quite well, right? So you're in your forties
watching this. You've always want to take piano classes. I'm telling this to you, but I'm actually
also telling it to myself in a way where it's therapeutic. So if you start today, you make today
your day one, you start learning how to play by the time you're 45 or even when you're 50, you are
a multi-talented piano player. I mean, you're not going to be any different from someone who
learned when they were in their twenties and didn't really, you know, put a lot of energy
and effort, which is going to a class learning casually or someone who learned it much younger.
I think in life, actually your desire or your motivation is usually a high indicator of your
success, uh, rather than, you know, something that you've made to do as a young person,
you weren't passionate about it and you never developed a love for it, but someone who picks
it up much later, but it's much more dedicated than you because they really love learning that
they're always going to excel. I've met actually lately in my life, a few people that picked up
professional sports like tennis or horseback riding much later in their lives. So in their
forties and now they're in like fifties and sixties, and they're like better than a lot of
younger people that have learned this as young kids. Uh, so it's never too late to learn anything,
uh, be it a language, be it a dance class, be it learning how to swim. I get a lot of messages
about people wanting to learn how to swim. It's actually quite easy to learn if you,
you understand that there's a technique and everyone can do it and you're no different than
from a person that learned it when they were like six, seven and eight. Um, I think it's mostly the
fear we have in our head, uh, or we think through so many scenarios in our head that before we even
get to try the activity, we stop ourselves from doing that because when you are a little kid,
you don't think of all the crazy fearful things that can happen to you. You just take on and do
it. And that's why it is easier, not because it's easier to learn, but I think it's also because
you have less fears. But as adults, we develop more and more fears, which makes it more and
more difficult for us to try new things. But from my own experience of, of, uh, being fearful of
having a YouTube channel or being just a public persona, because I was always someone who was
fearful of what people would say or think about me. Um, I was such a, I think people's preso
growing up. I always had my boundaries, but I think I always thought about what would people
think of me? I should be proper. I should be this and that. And I was scared to be my authentic
self in many ways because I was scared to not be approved by the society. And maybe it's the
experience, maybe it's the age, maybe it's the books that I've read that have formulated my
worldview in a different way now that I'm able to understand that no one really cares about you
in a long term. They'll talk about you for a day for two, but that's it. And what's the point of
not living your life to your fullest? Um, if, if you're not respecting the person you should be
respecting the most, and that's yourself. If you cannot grant your own wishes, you can't wait for
anyone to come and give your wishes, you know, make them come true. There's no Prince on a,
on a white horse. There's really not a fairy that comes and makes all these dreams come true.
You have to stand up for yourself. You have to stand up and go chase your dreams and make
today your day one, because you'll be tomorrow a day better and what you have just started
learning than the day if you didn't start it. So think of every day as a loss in terms of where
you could have been or what you could have learned or what you have, you could have acquired.
Um, so this quote has been everywhere with me in all my notebooks, and this is, I've been holding
this notebook the whole time, but I wasn't sharing it with you. So this is my favorite notebook.
I've shown this in one of the older YouTube videos. It's from Montblanc. It's in this beautiful
blue color, electric blue color. And I write down my favorite quotes in there. I love collecting
quotes because, uh, they have so much wisdom in them. They have so much power in them. Usually,
um, I prefer the shorter quotes because they're like these affirmations. They're this, uh,
mantras. Um, there are these like terse ideas or rather complicated ideas put in a very terse
and very brief way that sticks to your head and, and is a great reminder. Uh, so I collect quotes
and I, whenever I collect a quote, it's usually reflective of how I feel in the moment.
And in a way, uh, through collecting the quotes, I'm also self-reflecting. I'm understanding what
I'm going through, why this quote really resonated with me, why I wrote it down, what it meant for me.
Um, but, um, uh, the quote one day or day one has been stuck with me for many, many years.
And I keep reminding it to myself every single day when I'm postponing trying something new,
or I'm fearful of starting a new project or fearful of starting a new, uh, a new book,
or I'm just postponing it. I'll do it one day. I'll do it one day when everything is perfect.
But then I realized that moment never comes because things in life happen that are usually
on the way. When it's not, when you yourself don't make it a priority, there's always going
to be something that's going to become your priority. So, um, I hope that this video inspires
you. And if you're watching this at whatever age that you are, please make today your day one,
sign up for that class, call that person you wanted to call, uh, start writing the first
chapter of your book, go to that first gym class that you've been postponing. Make every single
day, day one of a step closer to your dream, to your goal than you were the day before,
because every day is really a gift. We don't know how much time we have been allocated on this
planet. So you don't want to leave this world without having fulfilled a certain amount of
your dreams. And the more you make every day, your day one, the more dreams you're going to attain.
And hopefully the better is going to be the quality of your life. And I think most importantly,
you're going to fulfill your, your bigger potential that I know every single one of us has.
So if you like this video, please give it a thumbs up. Do let me know if you like this format. And
if you do, what are some more things you want me to talk about? I'm going to make this channel
kind of a way of therapy of exchanging my ideas, but also being inspired by your suggestions as
always. But for now, I think for a few series, I'm going to tell you about my favorite quotes.
So every single video is going to be dedicated to one quote. And this is actually an idea that
was suggested by one of my followers over Instagram. And I told her, I actually had this
idea because I love collecting the quotes as an authentic activity for me. I'm going to do this
series where I will be sharing one quote per video that I have written down in my notebook
that has influenced my life, encouraged me to take actions, inspired me, encouraged me. And
in a process, I hope that with my explanation and with me sharing my experience, I'm going to be
able to inspire you to aspire for a better life. Thank you. Please don't forget to subscribe and
hit the notification button because some of you miss my videos whenever I post them because I
post them at different times so that you don't get to miss my videos. Make sure that you subscribe
and hit the bell button and we'll be in touch. Thank you so much. And I hope to see you in my
next video. Sincerely yours, Jamila.
