Recent research from Canstar indicates a slight decrease in travel insurance prices for Australians, driven by new market entrants. While the price drop is modest, comparing policies can lead to significant savings, with some users saving up to 18% and an average potential saving of 23% depending on the traveler's specific needs.

These days it's not often you see prices go down, right, but new research shows travel
insurance is cheaper, just as millions of Aussies head overseas.
So what do you need to know and which of the policies have come out on top?
Nine's Money editor, Effie Zahles-Jones, is now in the studio.
Good morning, Effie.
Good morning.
So lovely to see you this Friday.
Merry Christmas.
Talk to us about travel insurance, hey?
Well, this is quite unusual to see a price drop.
So that's the good news.
The bad news is it's not by much.
So this is some analysis from Cancer that's coming out today with their best travel policies.
It is a small drop.
The reason being is that there are new players coming into this market.
Quite a few.
I mean, there were some names we'll see later I've never heard of.
The little trap there could be that they could be coming in first year, great deals, but
then next year will they be as cheap?
But when it comes to travel insurance, you look at it every time you get it.
So that's the good news.
But I'm travelling myself over the weekend and had to get some policy comparisons and
I found that I could save up to 18% by just looking around.
Is that Cypress Lakes in the Hunter Valley?
That is it.
What do you need to look out for?
A couple of things when it comes to looking out for it.
If you're going to do any types of sports, skiing, you know, jet skiing or whatever the
case may be, there are kind of three ways they can handle it.
Is it included?
Is it an add-on?
Or is it just flat out excluded?
The other one is I would advise you not to drink on your holidays at all because if you
have a trip, you may not be covered.
The other one is to watch out for, I don't know if you've heard about those international
driving permits when you go overseas, you know, there's a need to have that.
Do you really need them?
And do you not?
There's a lot of scams online.
So take care.
So the Australian Automobile Association is the only licensed or registered agent that
can sell it.
There are agents like NRMA that you can sell through as well.
Some countries need them.
Some countries don't.
But if you hire a car, they may ask for it.
You should only be paying about $50.
So watch out for that.
Okay.
Any other travel hacks?
This is a personal one before we get onto the Medicare card.
The personal one.
I would say never, ever, ever travel with a luggage or bag that looks better than you.
That's better looking than you.
And I speak from experience.
I brought this bag that was gorgeous.
She was hot.
Obviously so hot that someone else got their eye on it and it was broken into.
So the moral of the story is travel insurance.
Alright.
Would you travel with this bag?
Would you?
Oh.
No luggage required.
I could fit a lot of stuff there.
Yes.
I would travel with that one.
Moving right along.
I did not expect that.
That's sweet.
Merry Christmas.
Let's move on to who the actual winners are.
Do you want to know who the winners are?
Do it quickly.
Yeah.
Quickly.
Just quickly.
So depending if you're travelling internationally or domestic, if you're a senior, if you're
going on a cruise.
These are some of the winners according to Canstar whereby you could possibly save even
more.
You saw I saved about 18%.
They're saying on average about 23% depending on your situation.
Alright.
Just one more look.
Yeah.
I'll be sure to pack all that.
18 abs there.
It's maybe a little bit too much for me to handle.
I'm not used to that.
Merry Christmas to all the ladies and some of the fellas out there.
Merry Christmas.
It's a beautiful thing.
Thank you.
