I spoiled myself with an amazing Jura automated coffee machine which makes fantastic coffee but the old school Italian Moka has been with me forever and occasionally I still make coffee this way. In this video, I will show you how to use moka pot to make a perfect moka pot espresso. We'll explore the three compartments of this stovetop espresso maker and ensure you get the best moka pot coffee every time, especially with a Bialetti moka express.
METHOD: 1) Start by adding water to the base of your moka, making sure it sits just below the safety valve. This is important, never cover it. 2) Place the filter basket inside and check that no water is pushing through. If it is, simply pour a little out. Then fill the basket completely with ground coffee, levelling it gently with the back of a spoon. No pressing, just smooth it out. 3) Close the moka tightly and place it on the stove over low heat. Keep the lid open so you can watch the coffee as it begins to rise, this is one of the best parts. 4) As the coffee slowly comes through, you’ll hear a whistling sound. Once it starts to finish, turn off the heat straight away.
HOW TO SERVE: Carefully remove the moka from the stove, open it, and give the coffee a quick stir, this brings up the richest part sitting at the bottom and blends all those beautiful aromas together.
Pour it straight into a small espresso cup and enjoy it immediately while it’s hot.
For the full Italian experience, serve it with a crunchy amaretti, a delicate sfogliatella, or a fresh, buttery croissant. That first sip, paired with something sweet, is what makes an Italian morning feel complete.
I just woke up and I need a good coffee and the best way to make coffee for me
are the Italian percolator. You never go wrong with this and I'm gonna show you how to make it
perfectly. If you don't have one, you go and buy it now. Be a lady brand, a brand you can trust.
Now, when you open it, you got three compartments. You got this, which is where you put the coffee in.
Here is where you put the water, right? So there is a valve here. You don't want to go over the
valve. You want the water to sit below the valve. You don't want to go over the valve. There is one
inside here. If you check inside. Something to keep in mind. Never, and I say never, wash the
percolator with soap. Only water, okay? And if some coffee gets stuck on it, it's fine. It adds flavors
for the next coffee. And the older it is, the better it is. My nonna has a very old percolator
and it makes the best coffee, seriously. Okay, now I'm gonna put water
and see, just sit underneath, just underneath. So we're gonna sit on it and perfect. We don't have
any water coming through. We have enough space for the water to bubble and then they
delicately make love with the coffee. Now, with the coffee, I see lots of people
adding coffee, only half of it, just to make it lighter. That doesn't make it lighter, okay?
You don't do that. You always need to fill this one up to that level. Otherwise, you're not gonna
get a good coffee, okay? If you want a lighter coffee, just use a different, I don't know, brand
or make a decaf. But to make a coffee in the percolator, you need to fill this up, okay?
Gently press, not too hard. And this needs to be filled, see? To the level, like that. You have to
do that. Otherwise, the coffee will be swimming in the water and you don't want that, okay?
Now, see? I can put even a little bit more, even just a little bit more. Great. So now the coffee is
pressed. Now we can put this on, close it, make it tight and cook it on a low heat. That's a secret,
okay? Don't do the coffee on a high heat because otherwise you burn the coffee. Low, take your time.
In the meantime, go and wash your face, do whatever you do in the morning, okay? But let the coffee
come out slowly from here, okay? Slowly, be gentle. You can use a gas cooktop, you can use fire, you can
use electric or induction. If you want to cook it on induction, you might need to buy the Bialetti
accessory for induction, which is what I have over here, okay? Now, when I put the coffee on, I like
to have the percolator open so I can see when the coffee comes out and smell the beautiful aromas.
Oh, okay, there's no coffee. It must be ready. Let's go. Can you see how beautiful and creamy
the coffee is coming out? On a low heat, the coffee is coming out gently, slowly, and now
this is the time when you want to close it. You can hear the sound, hear the sound, hear the sound.
That's it, this is the time to switch off, off the stove. Okay, now one more thing before we serve.
Look at that, open it and this is what we do. My nonna makes an incredible coffee
and she always says, you want to do this, you want to quickly do this because
the best part of the coffee sits at the bottom. So quickly stir and now you serve.
The smell of morning coffee. Seriously, it's the best smell for the morning. When you wake up,
all you want to smell is coffee. Now it's time to drink it. Oh, the beautiful aromas. Some of the
best coffees I've ever had in my life were in Naples and you know what? Every time I have coffee,
it takes me back to Naples. All you need now is a nice cookie, amaretto, maybe sfogliatella,
and you start the day. Oh, nice croissant. Ah, I'm now ready to start the day. Have a good day,
guys. This is how you enjoy your morning coffee.
