Mr. Rouse provides a drumming tutorial on enhancing the 4-2-1 warm-up exercise by incorporating \"dittos.\" The lesson focuses on shifting the placement of these dittos across different subdivisions of the beat and concludes with a technical challenge to maintain consistent stick height and volume.
What's up everybody. I'm back today. Your favorite drum teacher Mr. Rouse.
And today we're going to go over 4-2-1 but only using the dittos. Alright. I mean adding dittos.
Alright. So if you don't know the regular 4-2-1 warm up it's going to be hard to play this. Alright.
But we're going to record this video assuming you already know it. Alright.
So the first thing we're going to do is we put our dittos on the downbeat.
One e and a two e and a three e and a four e and a.
Alright. Let's do that together. Cut my mention on one. Do it at learning tempo.
75. Ready. And. And a two e and a three e and a four e and a. Again. Ready. And.
Now we're on the e. Ready. And. One e and a two e and a. Both together. Ready.
And. One e and a two e and a three e and a. If I was on my iPad I would act crazy when it's
time to record. Alright. So now we're going to be on the and. One e and a two e and a three e
and a four e and a. Let's do that again. Two. Ready. And. One e and a two e and a three e
and a four e and a. Again. Two and and. One e and a two e and a three e and a four e and a.
Let's do all three. Two. Ready. And. One four and and and. Let's do it again. Two.
ready and 1, 2, 3, 4, E, 1 and 2. Last one on the up. E and up, 2 E and up, 3 E and up, 4 E and up.
Alright so we just did everything 4 times. 1, E and up, 2 E and up, 3 E and up, 4 E and up.
Now we are doing everything twice. Alright.
Ready and 1, 2, 3, E, E, 1, 2. Ready and 1 E and the 2 and again 2. Ready and 1 E and the 2 E.
Now we add the and and the up. 1 E and the 2 E and up. Again 2. Ready and 1 E and the 2 E and up.
Alright. And then we loop that part. We loop the twos. Alright.
And this part here, that's probably the hardest part.
A one. Going right from that A to the A one. Dragging. And.
So let's start on the twos and let's loop the twos. And. And. A. Right here. Repeat.
Let's go all the way from the top to there. 1, 2. Beginning. And. Same part.
The last part we are just doing everything once. 1, E and up. Just that much again. And. 1, E and up.
We do this 4 times. Ready and 1 E and a one. That's the whole thing.
So let's start from the twos and go to the ones. 2, twos and. That was a bad doodle. Bad.
Alright. Let's shake it out. Let's take it from the top. And then we got the challenge.
Alright. From the top we are going to take it up to. No let's leave it at 75. Here we go. From the top.
1, 2. Beginning. And. Now twos. Good. Stay tuned for the challenge.
Alright. Here's the challenge. Now let's play that whole warm up. No accents.
Play everything at a block 6. Meaning 6 inches all the way across. Alright.
Try your best not to accent anything. Alright. Here we go. Let's do it.
We'll do this at 95. No accents. Here we go.
Make sure your hands stay here. Nice full taps. Ready and.
I feel like I could have played the taps a little higher. But anyway I'm old.
Try the challenge. No accents what so ever. Alright. There it is. Peace.
