Justin Verlander on one more All-Star Game and retirement

Being introspective and really kind of allowing myself to see the bigger picture and it's something like I said I've worked on so I don't know how this, I'm certainly not sitting here and doing this until I want to get the you know stand up at every stadium and you know see if you can get the type of situation. I don't want that. I think it just makes sense for the I guess going forward yeah I'm gonna try my best to enjoy it but at the same time like not take away like at a different edge than I've always had you know I've always said one thing so they'll get falling off. I joked with you guys not long ago that maybe this is falling off. It seems it is but you know it's it's not done yet and neither am I. I think I'm able to do both. I hope I can enjoy it. The focus is of course to get back on the field but next week getting to go to the All-Star game once again with this team. You have two guys making a first-time appearance. How much are you looking forward to that experience overall one final time? Yeah very much so. You know I have my son now also so it'll be great. I mean he won't remember it but I'll have some pictures with him you know and then you know getting to go with Kevin who could be my son age-wise. He and I have created a pretty good relationship. We give each other a hard time which is great and yeah so and Ding obviously having gotten to really work with him but so well-deserved and so I think one of the I think most enjoyments I get out of out of baseball is especially once you've been around for a long time is seeing guys make like their debut see their first hit. So to experience an All-Star game with those guys for the first time I think is something that it's like invigorating for me. Not that I won't enjoy it myself. I absolutely will but like you know you kind of feed off that energy and excitement that they have and you know it's kind of you know it takes you right back to my first All-Star game in San Francisco and the people that were in the room and just like the name from the jerseys and all out there was just you know it's gonna it's gonna take me right back there. So yeah that's that's something I'm looking forward to.
