Video Summary
AI GeneratedA guide to hiking Loughrigg Fell in the eastern Lake District. The narrator describes an accessible, scenic climb to a 335-metre summit, highlighting the panoramic views of Grasmere Water and Windermere. The hike is presented as a straightforward and rewarding experience suitable for various fitness levels, echoing Alfred Wainwright's sentiment that it is a fell everyone loves.
So this is the starting point of Loughrigg Fell. We've managed to get a free spot
just along this stretch of road off the main route there. There is a car park there which
you can pay for and another one which you can pay for. The one we looked at was £5.50
for the first two hours then £2 per hour after that. So we're starting off the hike
and good afternoon. Welcome to my video on Loughrigg Fell. I'm in the lovely eastern
part of the Lake District today and it is a Saturday around 5pm and the sun is shining.
It is an absolutely glorious day and what makes it better is I am here all weekend
in the van with my sister Ruby. So just heading through the woods now on the way up to Loughrigg
Fell. So this is just kind of shy of Rydal area, Grasmere, Ambleside and it is one of the smaller
fells in the area standing at 335 metres. So it's quite a small accessible one and in the words of
Alfred Wainwright, he said this is one everyone loves. So I'm hoping you will love it just as
much as I do. So I'll keep you posted throughout the route. Just heading towards Grasmere Water
now. I have done this fell before and it is beautiful so I can keep you posted along the
way and if you haven't already please do like, comment and subscribe.
So we're out of the woods now and in the sunshine. There is a nice bit of a breeze which is thankful
because of the sunshine which is lovely but it does make things quite hot and a bit sticky as
you are heading towards the summit. So my watch says we've done 1.3 kilometres, just around half
an hour and the views are lovely already. It doesn't take much to get some nice views and
that's of the Grasmere Water. We're going to continue taking the path just up there and you
do go around on yourself but so far so good. Even if you didn't want to walk all the way up it's
definitely worth coming a bit higher. We've also got a nice little resting bench there
and if you do go that way you'll head to Rydal Cave which is another very popular attraction,
a man-made cave from a quarry. It does get very very busy but it is definitely worth the visit.
Oh my gosh, it is.
Oh my gosh, get away.
Oh here's the timeout thing full of sass, off it goes.
Just wanted to do a little update. So as you can see we've got the gorgeous Grasmere Water behind
me. It's over 1500 metres long and at its deepest is 70 metres. It is quite a popular place to
go paddleboarding and swimming and also fishing. If you are going to go paddleboarding though I
would be cautious that there is about a 10-15 minute walk from the car park, the White Moss
car park anyway, to get there. So if you are kind of carrying it, it is pretty flat but yeah there
is a bit of a distance there. You're not straight onto the water side. In terms of how far we've
been going, so we've done 1 hour 10 minutes, 1.95 kilometres, so we're getting up there now.
It's going pretty well. It is a steep track, there are lots of stairs but we're kind of slowly
chipping away and the views make it all worth the while. Just going to stop and have a little snack.
Ruby's just having a little sit down on the rock and then we'll be back on our way to the summit.
And that is Loughborough Fell completed for the second time. I must admit, it felt a lot easier
that time than the first time. The first time was years ago so to be fair, my fitness and my hiking
wasn't as good as it is now but that was really quick and easy, dare I say it, for me. Got the
Windermere in the background and just behind me the sun is setting. It's a lovely, lovely
view up here to be fair. It's like full panoramic views. From this direction you've got Rydal
and that is Grasmere where we come up. So we're going to head back down now. We've been sat kind
of just chilling for quite a while. It's very busy up here and again all the little ones do tend to
get busy. Lots of tents for people to stay the night. And that is a trig, love a trig point.
So in terms of the hike, 100% would recommend. Dunwich Price now, really enjoy it. Small hike,
easily accessible, very straightforward to get up. One of the smaller ones. Alfred Wainwright
was right I think when he said people like this one and I can see why. Great views,
plenty of space to kind of spread out. You've got all of the three big lakes around and yeah,
I just really enjoyed it. So me and Ruby are now going to head back down to the van. We've
got some burgers for tea. I'm not really sure where we're staying yet so yeah, we'll see what
happens but hope you enjoyed the views just as much as we have and I'll see you in the next one.
Bye for now.
