Another countdown is on here in Philly and we are now in full Major League Baseball mode.
The All-Star game kicking off in less than a week and we're just checking off all the boxes
in this summer of celebration. Our Jeff Skowerski at Citizens Bank Park after an awesome game
from two great local teams. Tell us about it Jeff. Hey Jason, you can say that again. Before the
Home Run Derby, before the All-Star game next week here at Citizens Bank Park, the Phillies
in Major League Baseball hosting a children's game. How about this, it is a game for children
with disabilities, a great way to kick off All-Star festivities. Little League All-Stars
knocking it out of the park. Big swings and big smiles in the Miracle League game at Citizens
Bank Park. It's a shot for these children with physical and cognitive challenges to feel like
All-Stars. I think this is what sort of makes sports wonderful. You know to see the smiles on
their faces when they put the ball in play and they're running around the bases, it's
it's joy, it's a joy to watch. The Phillies in Major League Baseball are hosting teams from
Ridley Park, Delaware County and Horsham in the yard. A touching event as these kids touch them
all. Baseball has been the one sport that we have been fully able to access and so to be able to be
on this accessible field and participate and just do it like any other kid is really just
it's the feeling is beyond words as a parent. Horsham's Samantha Govitz loves watching her
twins Everett and Remy, who were born with cerebral palsy, play the game they love with
former Phillies like Ruben Amaro Jr., Dickie Knowles and Milt Thompson cheering them on
in their personal jerseys. Did you hit a home run? Yeah. Yeah, did you run the bases? Yeah.
How much fun was today? Fun. This has been just a dream. These are the two biggest Phillies fans
right here. This is all leading up to the biggest game of the year, the first Major League All-Star
game in Philadelphia in 30 years. For people to see this on the big stage and for the All-Star
game to be played here is pretty darn awesome. It's going to be incredible. No doubt about it,
the greatest players in the game will be here. How much do you think this city is going to
shine next Tuesday? Oh, it's going to be incredible. You know, I told you we have
the best home field advantage in baseball and just to have an All-Star game here,
oh, it's going to be tremendous. Speaking of tremendous, the Phillies and Major League
Baseball are investing five and a half million dollars into charities throughout our area,
including the Miracle Leagues of Southeastern Pennsylvania. Now that is a grand slam. We're
live tonight in South Philadelphia, Jeff Skowerski, Fox 29 News.
