Patriot Pup offers specialized boarding and grooming for "spicy" dogs

For pets with severe anxiety or behavioral challenges, a typical kennel isn't always an option. I'm your Lakeshore Neighborhood Reporter Abbey Hamachek at Patriot Pup, where specialized services are helping owners and their pets find peace of mind. Some dogs need a little more space and patience. Owners Amber Hutchison and Brian Thompson know that firsthand. Their dog, Rowdy, inspired Patriot Pup's stress-reducing features, including indoor-outdoor kennels that give dogs the choice. Dog is walking up. Dog is approaching the door. Door opens. Dog goes directly outside. So we felt like we could put something together where dogs felt more calm. They had the space. They had the indoor-outdoor space. And they didn't have to be forced to be around people they didn't know if they didn't want to be. And it's all about patience. That patience continues in the grooming room, where the goal is to make every visit a positive experience. I work with anti-stress methods. So instead of pushing a dog to the point to where a lot of groomers would try to force them to get done, I'd rather work with them slowly. Instead of telling them no, I sing to them. For pet owners, that approach makes it a difference. Anya, you're a little shy, a little timid, right? Yes. How does it feel that there's a place that you know is well-equipped for that personality? It feels awesome. It's a huge relief. They take care of her like she's their own. The business is also giving back. Patriot Pup got its name. I was in the Marine Corps. The Patriot Pup Guardian Fund uses community donations and a portion of the company's profits to help military service members pay for boarding during deployments or other emergencies. We want them to know that their dogs are treated as one of ours. Patriot Pup opened last month and plans to hold its grand opening in August. In Manitowoc, Abby Hemechek, NBC26.
