Let’s go inside the old Kmart which we can because it’s a U-HAUL! Found a sign dedicated to the repurposing of the Kmart. In a way this is a good thing because we get to walk inside even though the storage units inside are distracting from the layout and make it hard to make out, those iconic vents and flooring as well as bathrooms and backrooms are still recognizable. We can still pretend
Hey guys, I'm at the former Kmart in Austin Town, Ohio. Now a U-Haul and we should be able to walk
in here. Let's go walk around and see what we can find. I believe this closed, was it 2018 or
something like that? The one in Talmadge had a K sign remnant in the office but I
can already kind of see the Kmart it is. Looks like the floor, I think so, and the ceiling.
Now where's the circle about that? There they are! See? Oh nice!
The leg of mine started here.
Were you at this Kmart when it was closing or anything?
I was here when it was abandoned, but before they turned it.
Usually they have some sort of an ode to Kmart somewhere in here.
Were these restrooms created for U-Haul or were these, let's see, it seems like kind of an old
older restroom. It doesn't smell all new or anything. I want to say that this was Kmart's
but it's a little weird to me. I don't remember Kmart having these individual restrooms,
but I don't know. Maybe there's a bigger one somewhere else.
This had to be a Kmart restroom.
It's old looking. Oh the telltale sign. Kmart is gone, never coming back.
I don't know what it is about Kmart. There's just something really special about it.
People have asked me why do you like Kmart so much and it's just one of those things where
as you know, you know. Those of us who grew up with it,
those of us who grew up with Kmart, there's just a comfort in it, a nostalgic feeling.
Yes, we love Kmart that much that we would walk into a storage building just to try to feel the
Kmartness to it. No, we don't care. There's people that are like, oh it's just an old store. No,
it's not just an old store. Kmart is life. Let's look at this section. Why did they put a door?
And it's just more of the same thing. There it is. There's a circle vent.
The famous Kmart circle vents. That's definitely part of a Kmart floor.
The green has to be, I don't feel like that was there. The green? No, no. Like I was saying
earlier, that's probably the same but they like put like green stuff around it or
well that might be like, oh man, I'm not an expert. Here's more restrooms. Wow, these are K restrooms.
Yeah, for sure. I'm gonna just have to give it an A based on Kmart. This is a total
Kmart restroom. They all look like this. This is an old Kmart
watering fountain. Oh, that water's nasty. Oh, gross. There it is. What's the red light up there?
I'm not sure. Oh, what's this? Oh, the door's alarmed. Some storage of some kind. I don't know.
What section would you say this is? I don't know. The maintenance? I can't imagine.
Oh, that's got anything on Kmart. Whoa, this is old Kmart. Yep, that's definitely Kmart back there.
Yeah, this is how we visit Kmart. I'm surprised I haven't seen
any um, um, oh. What? We have someone's stuff actually. What? It's like a like Halloween
decoration. Uh-huh. They keep it nice and cool here. This, was this the spy window?
They have an auto section here. Darren Dragich. You guys can, I don't know, visit him. I really
don't know why it says that. Okay, so this door doesn't open, but there is the view of the auto
bays. Oh, wow. Yep, that's definitely Kmart 4A. That's somebody's nasty mattress. Ew. This is
Maddie's favorite, the circle boot. Another little weird, imagine you're shopping here. Imagine,
man, like just, picture, it's hard to picture, but I see this, this brick, um, or I mean,
not, what do you call this up here? A cement block. This is, uh, indicative.
What's this section? Oh, it's more, oh wait, did I already see that? Yeah, I did.
Is that thunder? I think so.
Yeah, but I didn't notice these on the floor. I didn't notice those on the floor either.
I wonder if that was like the customer service area. It might have been. Or something. Let's
see if we can get into the office. There's that K brick. This is a, looks like a 60s.
I don't see any stuff here. What? Oh, that's it right there. Former home of the big Kmart.
UL reuse 2018. They're proud to recycle the building. That's amazing. Here's another Kmart,
uh, restaurant. With, look, look at this. What? You'd love this. The circle back. Right up there
Oh, nice. That's amazing. That, that's freaking amazing. That is incredible.
Okay, so the family farm and home was a separate thing that wasn't part of the Kmart and the
garden section was actually, um, right here. I'll show you. It's a garden shop
where the Cadillac is. Here was the garden section. They, they locked it up though.
And you can see, um, this is where the fence would have been. Oh, right here.
Great to see. And then there should be one down here. And there's the auto section.
Oh, this would have had, I don't know, like a fence or, or would it have been windows?
Not too sure, but that is your Austin town Kmart. And I hope you guys enjoyed my look at the
Austin town, former Kmart, now a U-Haul with all those remnants inside. Like I said, uh,
this is a pretty good way to still get into a Kmart. It's kind of the only way that,
unless they're Spirit Halloween, uh, this is kind of the only way that you're going to see
a Kmart anymore because they're gone. Um, yes, I know there's like one Kmart that's the size of
a shoe box. It's in Miami, Florida. I understand. I know. Then there's one in Guam. I understand,
but Kmart's gone. Okay. So this is what we have. If you're in the lower, uh, if you're,
if you're in, uh, anywhere but Florida, at least that doesn't even count because it's like,
that's not Kmart. Um, that's not the Kmart experience. In my opinion, when bridge Hampton
closed, that was it. That was pretty much it. Um, as far as Kmarts go, bring back Kmart. I would
love to see it. I would adore seeing Kmart come back. In fact, that's, yeah, we should
campaign for it. So hope you guys enjoyed this and I'll see you on the next video.
