Video Summary
AI GeneratedThis tour explores a remarkable residential cave home and its surrounding landscape, originally built as a bomb shelter. The property blends unique geological formations, such as active stalactites and sinkholes, with ingenious architectural adaptations. Beyond its function as a dwelling, the site is a historical treasure trove featuring ancient graffiti, indigenous artifacts, and a vast, unexplored cave system.
Nate?
Kirsten yeah, I can't figure out where the cave is. The cave is right up here. You actually passed it
What kind of rock is this? It's limestone, mostly limestone. Yep. I always feel like I'm Jurassic Park right here. Welcome
It's kind of Narnia. Yeah, it's a little bit Narnia.
Yeah
It feels like a house in the rocks. It doesn't quite feel like a cave, right?
It was originally meant for a bomb shelter slash home. The gentleman that originally started it
He brought his family out here on the fear of war
So it was originally supposed to be a bomb shelter and that's why the walls look so thick
These are his original walls out here. So so there's some engineering. I'm sure right to put a
Facade on a cave. There's a lot of engineering
I bet when I obviously wasn't here during the late 70s early 80s
But I built skyscrapers and Tulsa and casinos and you're a builder. I was yeah, not anymore though. I'm a caver now
Obviously, I'm a caveman. I
Believe that a lot of these stones actually came from these streams down here
So carting those up is you can't get really get a cement truck up the hill that we came up
So they would have had to hand turned all their concrete and mortar for all these walls and for how thick they are
It would have took a significant amount of manpower to actually do all this and for it to still stand
40 plus years later and that's pretty significant in and of itself
So there was a cave here during the Native American time. They were out here and the Civil War
They would have hiked up here. This right here is actually when they excavated the cave out
So in the late 70s John Hayes the celestial season special tea guy
He actually came in here and started to cultivate the cave to what it is now
So they dug out a bunch of dirt and debris. Yeah, that's actually how we have our driveway now
You see the rock face do they have to secure any of it like is there any danger of more rock?
Yes, I mean, yes
There is of rocks always want one to tumble especially during the winter time when it freezes and expands and then contracts
But I've been up there. I've kicked a lot of it off. We've not most of the bigger rocks off and here's a stream
Yeah, so it's actually coming out right here. It's coming through the cave. It's coming through the cave through the mountain
Yeah, so if there's two springs that pop out of a mountain back here
I mean it flows through the cysteines underneath the ground and then it actually flows in the back part of the cave and then right
Through here and out the front
So we go over here. We see the front door. Yeah, that's actually the original front door, too
So when John Hayes came out here, he had a mirror on the edge of the road over there
That mirror would actually reflect the sunlight into this opening right here
That's why it looks like a sunburst and it would shine down our hallway
The mirrors were offset so they wouldn't hit you in the eyes
But the sunlight would hit those and reflect into the two different rooms and hit a glass crystal chandelier and illuminate the room
So I thought that was pretty ingenious way of like lighting a back of a cave back then
So it still feels like a cave. Yeah
We've been in several caves
This it feels the most raw of any cave we've been in
I feel like people always try to put a little more of a home a little more like, you know
Kind of taming the cave
You're just always always always covered in cave just I mean it's not finished
There's no covering up of the cracks or any of the it's just left as it would be right?
Yeah, this is exactly what I was
So when there was actually dirt inside of here
There was a dirt hallway like that and we're about the where the window is over there was a little bit of an opening
So this entire side was filled with dirt and debris all the way around
I mean
we've seen signs of how the river in the back was actually against the ceiling of the cave in the back and it ran through
The back of the cave and it would have been up in this area right here at one point in time and then fell out
of the cave way way way way way back when
So there's actually seven layers from a marine grade finish all over the walls and ceilings of the cave
That's kind of why it looks shiny and fake if you will
They had trouble for years and years with water coming in and moisture. So this actually combats a lot of that
Obviously nature is gonna find a way and the cave is still growing. You'll see little straws
Actually, there's one above the door right here a little tip here. See how there's a drip right here
So the calcium is actually still building on the floor for the stalagmite and the straw right there is still growing right now
So so a water fund it finds a way no matter what through this and that's what happens in caves
Like walls will grow because water is coming down just like these stalactites right here
These more than likely would have been formed by calcium running in especially with the ribbon look right here
I'm assuming it would have been more of a ribbon look and this would have been just a calcium
Cascade right here and more than likely you can see like how you have a grayer
Finish and then a white sections. I believe those would have been a calcium deposit at one point in time
So I guess it makes sense to put a kitchen up front. Yeah, absolutely
You get the natural light in here and whatnot super open natural light probably gets to about the lamps
But I think that's why mr
John Hay actually put the mirror out the side and that's why it's Shawn down the hallway. It's a standard kitchen
Is there anything irregular about being inside a cave really? It's just ventilation for us like this right here
This is the best way to ventilate for us
But the nice thing is is even if we have like fish or something
You would have to have a lot of it to actually permeate the cave, which is amazing
So so you have beds upstairs if somebody wants daylight don't want to go too deep into the cave
Yeah, you're kind of in the the ones above are still lag
Stalk tights because they hold tight and then then mites take a lot of might to come up. That's how I learned
So so anything special about windows put put two windows on a cave to anybody out there that wants to build a cave home
So that is actually calcium that comes off the mountain here
And we have trying to clean that with every known product a man and that is actually pitted into the glass itself
It's just something that happens to the cave so if the cave is taking over what you've added it's wanting to re
Reclaim. Yeah, exactly. I mean even here I just got dropped on. Yeah, so like everywhere there's stuff happening
Yeah, it's just dynamic. It is still growing no matter what like you said, you've been blessed by the cave. You're just tripped on
It's almost like a cathedral
natural
It's funny you say that because later on in the life of the cave we kept hearing this was like a nightclub or
Unfortunately a brothel, but it wasn't but there was a gentleman that actually bought the cave after John
Hey, and he would have significant parties in here
So like the nitty-gritty dirt band would come up here and play like Sylvester Stallone
extended family Michael Jackson diner
Ross quite a few other people would charter helicopters in and they would actually land here all the town's folks would line up around the
Driveway and watch it come up here for these really big parties
So technically it could have been a nightclub brothel kind of thing going on, you know
And there's more water coming down here if it rains significantly outside
This will actually get a lot wetter right here mostly from the drips. But yeah, it'll significantly come in here
So and it's coming down the mountain coming through the it's coming right through the dirt
So if you're kind of standing up there about a hundred feet up
It's going through the dirt and then it's gonna go find ways through the cracks and the limestone and whatnot
And it's gonna find its way through here and out of a straw or out of a crevice that they can find inside of here
So yeah, absolutely
90% of our cave right here is actually filled with water almost all the way through so we have about
6,000 square feet of living quarters in here
And this is the extensive part of the cave that goes a couple miles back inside of there. It's going back. This is 100%
Yeah, so it's several miles several miles. Yep. You can keep walking back this way. Yeah, absolutely
I've been about three and a half hours this way
Yep, I had to drain the water from back there and I was trudging through mud up about that high
So yeah, there's pretty significant amount of cave here. So so this is just the beginning of a really big cave
I mean we're seeing the tip of the iceberg and not all the cave has actually been explored completely yet
Like this area this area this area that area this area the rock was blocking that so those actually don't go anywhere
That we know of just this far because they haven't gone to it yet. So
What would you like to see next? So basically, I know that this will go for miles if you keep walking
They call it the door to Narnia
So you need to stop me
Okay, let's look upstairs. Okay, cool. So upstairs is our primary room and then we have two Queens down here
I didn't realize there was another upstairs. So there's it's just higher in here
So they thought to put in a bedroom like pretty much. Yeah
It's just figuring out how to kind of work with the cave, right?
Stairs really well and fits a bedroom. Yeah
so I think they actually had to take off a few of these stalactites like this one right here you can see it's kind of
Like right that way back when because otherwise it would probably hit your head. Oh, yeah. Yep
I actually had a gentleman knock this one off with his head right here. It was about that much longer
So is that soft enough that it no, it's not soft whatsoever. It hurts so bad
This keeps going to tip
So this actually used to be the primary bed back in the day when people were shorter
I think that that was the primary bed in here in the 90s or something of that nature
So they ended up moving it here and I encourage people if they sleepwalk not to sleep in it
And all this is natural coming this far down. Absolutely 100% natural. So in some places it just keep building. Yeah, absolutely
What's kind of crazy is is you're anywhere from about a hundred to two hundred feet enough the ground right here
For how the hill climbs above us and if you look directly above the bed right here
There is a vertical cave that goes pretty well way up inside of there
So this would have actually been where the stream ran at one point in time. That's why it's carved like that
So there's two of those in this room
Actually, what's crazy is they didn't excavate all the rock out of the stream bed, which was right here
And that's why it looks different from the rest of the cave
And so this was actually the stream bed and the water flowed through here
And I think they just was like bro, this would be cool to leave here
So they actually left it and then painted over it if so, it's a natural second story cave, correct?
Well, this floor is actually obviously a subfloor we put in long time ago
But this so the dirt would have been
kind of up in this area the floor would have been up in the natural floor would have been in this area right here and
The water would have canaled through here and out the front. So you see that the water and now it's found another way through
It's underneath us how it's how far it's dug down
So, yeah
It would have started up here more than likely and then dug its way down over the years
How many feet from here to the top or wait how the hill runs in the mouth of the cave right here?
We guess it's between a hundred to two hundred feet above you right here
So so there's the thermal mass in the middle of the summer. It's it's going to be much cooler
Oh, yeah, when it's a hundred out here hundred and ten, it feels freaking amazing in here
You know, I mean and actually we had a really bad winter and we actually stayed really comfortable in here
It is actually a really cool bathroom. Oh, it's a big bathroom
Yeah, so there's probably like four or five people can fit in here and I'm sure there has been
And of course the shower is just part of like why make walls? That's what this is all about water. Yep
So yeah, this is the cave
This is the cave obviously these walls right here and this seat is actually man-made we put that obviously in here
But we try to keep as much of the cave in here so that it just is still part of the cave
So showers in here are actually pretty amazing. It's it's really good for your hair
The type of water it is I'm not I'm not even kidding it makes your hair feels
Yes
And there's all these funny shapes kind of a jaws over there. You were like clouds, right?
Yeah, we have a dragon around the corner that you know, the alien movie where the the thing comes out of the mouth
It's in the main living quarters, so funny. Yeah, cuz I see I see sort of teeth. Yeah, exactly. Yeah
He's like almost like looking into the rock, you know going from construction and making something out of nothing
You're actually forcing your own construction into like
existing
Formation and you kind of have to go with whatever the caves want you to do and so you have no choice in some areas
But yeah, it's just part of it and it's it's an experience all of its own
So it's kind of what they recreated Disneyland and it's some of that. This is a ride. I've been on I'm sure
Yep
so speaking of which so you can see that this is obviously the cave right here and
They cut this groove into the actual cave
You can see how thick it is and how long it is across here
This actually held plexiglass the entirety of it. And this was a fish aquarium back in the day
Fish tank you correct. Yeah fish tank here, huh? I feel like it doesn't need that this place is special enough
I mean, I think it would be absolutely cool, but it doesn't
So yeah, you were talking about clouds and stuff. So this is our dragon that everybody points out
So there's the face and his little neck his little chest and his wing got encapsulated in it. So
The kids dig it alien ish as well. Yeah
Yeah, kind of is isn't it?
It's interesting because you come up from there and you forget that it's daylight
right like you come back and it's easy to forget time of day and
Yeah, it's weird because the sensory just shuts off and you can just sleep. So
Yeah
Why it's very quiet, right?
Especially when the doors shut and you're tucked into bed or something like that. It's actually very peaceful in here. So
When you spend the night here, do you come out of out feeling different afterward?
You spend some time you spend some hours here. Does it change you?
To me driving on to the property or being inside. I just feel this big relief
Kind of like just this hug from Mother Nature that it's okay
Yep, we actually get anxiety going into the cities now because we're so removed from everything
We look like the Duggar family going to Walmart once every two months
It kind of grounds you for me it feels more grounding and kind of just peaceful
It's very peaceful in here. So you see the I mean, these are the few walls that are artificial walls
Yeah, this is man-made obviously
How does man-made materials interact with the cave in my opinion this in concrete is gonna be your best bet
Because when they did have the sheetrock in here, obviously she rocks and I'm doing very good
And so this stucco is probably the best way to go. There is actually a metal I-beams in here, but it's more of a metal
Dish that holds the concrete it actually fixes to the cave itself on this side as well as you can actually see some of
The structure supports inside this room. This is the structural supports. You can see the lag bolt
That's actually sticking out of this area right here
the floor and the ceiling actually attaches to these steel beams and this actually goes down into the floor and in actually
Underneath the floor because we're about five foot above the actual cave floor right here concrete floor concrete floor eight inches thick
When they redone this because this floor has actually changed several times
So when he had the bomb shelter here, he actually had a trapdoor that would open in the front
And so those actually that trapdoor actually held center blocks that would fit into every single opening you see on the outside of the building
So if there was ever like a nuclear fallout or a zombie apocalypse, he could actually close off the in front of the cave
So this guy was actually really super smart. He made a dam back here
And ran piping all the way from the back underneath your feet
All the way down that big hill towards the pond and there used to be a concrete bunker down there
We just took it out
that was a
Hydroelectric system that the water caught momentum going down the hill and pressure and it turned the wheel and sent direct current DC power up
To the cave so so he was powering the cave with this water coming through it pretty smart
All right. Do you guys want to see something that most people don't get to see? Oh, so this is the door to Narnia. Yeah
Not too many know it that it's any more
The wash and dry just feel so normal actually alien at this point because now I'm used to the cave
Yeah
So there's two salamanders right here
We're gonna try to avoid them as much as possible because we do actually like these little guys
So they're coming in from the just from the stream just from the stream
Yeah, and this is actually where the water is running underneath your feet right here. So this here
This is actually water purification system. I put in with my brother
These are sediment tanks and these work amazing because they actually sell flush
So you can just get the water right out of the mountain. Yep, and you get a little bit of a cave cricket action
They get pretty thick right now. Those are juveniles living back here. You wouldn't think so much. No
So this is the back of the scenes like I was telling you
I'm still looking for the pirate ship. So
But yeah, this is actually our water holding tank for the cave
There is a little bit of a dam in a cave back here that we pump the water into here to hold it and then this
Actually gets pumped into the cave through that water purification system itself
so so this is water for the sinks and the
Everything and then that goes through the water for your purification, correct? Yes, ma'am. So you have a spring in your cave house
we're actually we're very blessed to have it out here because
Unfortunately, we do get some really bad droughts the actual city of Jasper dried up
I think it's been two years in a row now
They've had to source water from other areas and this huge huge tank right here
We still have water coming into it, which is amazing
Quite amazing. It just opened to me and I said look they're like the goodness, you know, yeah, I got it does yeah
Hey you guys. Yeah. Yeah. Oh
You see the water coming in
Yeah, so that's one of our water sources right there
You can see my blue pipe that actually pumps it from the cave in the back
This is actually running mid-range right now. Usually I have full force inside of here
It will run and we'll be yelling each other, but it's going pretty good right now and we're seeing water dripping right here
So this is because it's raining or just always yep
So this feature right here has actually been running as long as I've come out here as you see this
Talag tight right here is all orange
So that's all calcium growing on it when I first got out here in 2019 these ribbons right here
We're running and it's just kind of neat because they're all dried up now
And it's just the water's gone over here now and it actually started building on that one
Eventually, that'll probably make a dam and then water will come back over here and start building on this one again
This is actually really neat. Just seeing how everything builds keeps changing
funny and you have such a history with it because you've been here long enough now to
Know it
So we're the only case this to me the entire world that we know of thus far that has a certain
Species of springtail that lives in our water out here. Let's sprinkle. I had to Google it
It's kind of microscopic if you will and it springs reminds me of a flea that springs from his tail
But it actually lives in our water. We have an entire ecosystem in here
So the stream that's underneath this right here used to be see how it's more rougher in that area over there
That used to be the stream bed and it actually ran all the way through the primary bathroom through the bedroom where I showed you
And out the front of the cave
so what they say is they had a really bad drought and it hardened and solidified into the ceiling and became one with the
Ceiling as you may know water tries to find the easiest way
Yes
So it started to cut down instead of through that canal again and it just started cutting and that's how we have these different looking
Layers and shelves inside of here. It's just actually really super neat how everything's created
I was picking my favorite inside
But now I think this part is more interesting to me because I think this water source is a part of the house
Yeah, it really actually is this what makes this property just so amazing
So is this where it goes back? Yeah, you want to see a little bit further? Yeah, okay
Watch your step right here. It is a little bit tricky. So we've tried to leave this natural
Yeah, this is like you're walking in a stream. Yeah
Yeah, I don't see any crawdads today. Usually they want to stay in these little cubbies right there
Yeah, sometimes you do watch your step right here this rock is a little bit tipsy there you go
No, well there's rocks inside of here but no one has actually formed a path in here
This is all natural 100% and so but I'm guessing it gets more difficult somewhere
Oh, yeah, absolutely a little bit further back
But it's kind of cool is we do have some graffiti up here. And so it says
1859 we believe
1859 and that's still I'm surprised it's still there because this feels just like it's all evolving and
Changing and and there's some more graffiti above it 1876. There's a name across there that we're not for sure about
So this is actually the pretty probably the coolest part of it right here. So there's a J a says James Plumlee
1892 and we did have to clean some of this dirt off of here
But so we found this one and then we also found this one right here
Jbp
1892 so what the kicker of this is is my brother was working out here and he actually found them online
Obviously not the 1892 guy, but his descendants around us, correct?
Yeah, so how the story goes he was out in this area during the skirmishes of the Civil War several years later
He had a kid they actually carved their name on this wall right here in 1892 to local Arkansas family
They're actually really prominent in this area now too, which is kind of crazy. So yeah, this is part of their history
so
We spoke about vertical caves
This is actually what a vertical cave looks like from us underneath and I don't know if you can see it or not
But we have a cave spirit face inside of there, too
So this right here would actually be the dam
They put it in about the 90s and this is actually where our source of water comes from
So it's so tight inside of here that we don't actually know where this cave system goes
But this would never truly dries up where the other one over here how you get to the extensive part of the cave
It actually will dry up during the hotter seasons and stuff like that. So so this would be an area
That's not explored hasn't been explored has not been explored. No, I could probably stick like a camera in there somehow
But it gets actually pretty tight inside of there and there's a lot of water that just flows through it. So
But yeah, this one's actually I used to have a balcony right here. They'll go inside of there
It kind of rotted out and so I'll put a new one in there and I'll use the track deck or some plastic boards
But yeah, you can kind of look up inside of there and it's a vertical cave and then that spirit face is in there, too
So, oh, wow, the water just keeps going here. It's really cool, right? So this is actually so I remember that dam
I told you you had a hydroelectric system
So this is it right back here. That's a dam
That's where the pipe started from and it ran through the cave. We can go back there. It's just really super slippery right here
So this is John Hayes's dam right here
And you can see that his pipes came out right here and this pipe actually ran underneath your legs out that cave right there
Kind of like our pipe and out the front of the cave
So this holds back a lot of water inside of here
So this is where he was generating energy
Down at the pond, but the water for that energy was coming from right here by damming it. He's forcing it
Correct and forcing it into this pipe through this pipe
We capped it off back in the day and this used to run all the way through the cave
Where now you see a pipe?
Is me so that's how we get our water and it goes over to the other dam
Where this dam is filled with too much sediment inside of here
We can't pump anything from it and it will dry out eventually too. Will it really?
Absolutely, you can actually walk through this area at the floor collapse. It's back here?
That's actually up this ladder and then around a corner. It probably gets more difficult back in here. It does
Yeah, this is pretty much where the lights stop though. Yeah, it gets too dark
So right up here you kind of have to duck walk and then you have to lay on your stomach and go through a passage
That's about this big. It's a cave and then there's a stalactite that's made a column and then it actually opens up
And there's a really neat looking room
It's probably about 30 foot tall and then there's actually a really big 30-foot waterfall back inside of there
And then there's graffiti from an 1820s back there
Oh, yeah, so you've heard of Jesse James
Oh, yeah
So the James gang would actually come through these hills and the running history is that he hid a lot of silver in one of
These caves out here. So, you know, we're looking for that in the Goonies pirate ship. So one of these days
There's actually another subfloor underneath us right here to right here. There's a hole going all the way through this one on the water
So there's actually another floor underneath there it just keeps on going down inside of there
So that's I don't know how deep I'm staying there
It's probably only like six to eight inches right here
But there's no telling since there's no standing water inside of there how far it actually goes down inside this hill and then underneath our
floor that we're standing on
Super cool. So it's it's just like layer upon layer. Yeah, absolutely. Yep
You probably spent hours and hours back there exploring so I would do this every other day for five and a half years
Yep, I'm gonna go this way and meet you guys on the other side. Can I follow? Yeah, absolutely. Yeah, you can do whatever you want
This is where you can just completely shut off and go away from the world. You know what I mean?
So this used to be part of this stream right here. And if you look up you'll see stones encapsulated in this ceiling
But obviously this is the cave wall cave wall, but this section in the middle right here you can it looks like stones
This is actually calcium wrapped around all those stones and this used to be a stream bed right through here
And it just formed around it and then it just started digging out from underneath and it's just so amazing how it kind of just
Does everything like that? So I'll show you the fossils. This is the easiest place to see them over here
So these aren't like gonna be like t-rexes and cool stuff like that
And this one's really packed with them and what you'll typically see is like football shaped ones
You'll kind of scan along and there's another football shaped one
There's possibly a leaf of some sort and then you'll see perfectly round ones like this guy
And he has like a Phillips head in the middle of it. And so those are spinal cords and whatnot. There's a shell right there
That's just making me remember that this was you were saying at the beginning right this was we would have been under the sea here
So what someone told me was these areas right here were when the seas were really calm and then this section right here is when
They had like a catastrophic event like an earthquake or hurricane or some of that nature that turned the sea up
And then it settled all back down and that just kind of keeps doing that
So this we just did a big roundabout right here
This is a very very very small section of the back of the part of the cave
Yeah for a couple miles, yeah
Miles, yeah, it actually goes off of our property line goes off the property line. Does it shoot out the back?
There's actually what they call the vacuum hole at the very end that they know of and that is on someone else's properties
and I'm assuming the reason they might call the vacuum holes because it might hear a sucking sound or something like that cuz there's
Drawing air into it. We think so. I haven't actually been there. Yeah, it's actually quite a ways up
I mean, I think this is probably my favorite
I mean, you know like it's neat to live in but I think if I were gonna be living here
I'd almost want to put like some sort of maybe just temporary bed that you sleep here
Once in a while and you're just in the cave. I think it would be cool to actually put a hammock in here
Yeah, I mean you wouldn't want a mattress here. Yeah, you can definitely get wet feels like it's getting wetter
That does seem like they've actually kind of picked up a little bit
So what's happening is is all the rain that we just had last night is
Finally kind of streaming through the ground and finally making its way right here
These straws right here have been dripping since the 80s onto this floor because this floor is poured in the 80s
And these bowling ball and prints down here have been growing as you see
That's actually in the cement, correct
Yeah, and you can see that these over here actually have been actually leaving calcium deposits like this right here
So so when I first came in here, it was overwhelming to be honest with you
it takes a lot to
Build something but then to maintain it
Especially a cave. This is something I've never done in my entire life
Obviously and not a lot of people have and to maintain it
Afterwards is just a significant undertaking in and of itself
You were having to fix something every single day for about two years
So now I've got everything down to a tee if you will
So if something happens like the water pump goes out
I know exactly what to go look for and what symptoms that might cause in the cave. So it's been one heck of an adventure
So right here, you know when we went in the back part of the cave
We're actually sitting on top of it right here. So when I say no pressure, that's a lot of dirt debris over here
So it's pretty spectacular
So you can make out the a-frame of a mountain over there
That's where the two springs pop out and then any of this water that runs off actually falls into vertical caves and sisteens underneath
The ground and that's how we get our water
And this is one of the camps that the Native Americans they actually lived in these hills and there's so many Native Americans out here
back in the day
that in the 80s and 90s people would come out here with five-gallon buckets and they fill them full of arrowheads constantly and
This would be where people were living, right? Yep. Absolutely
Another type of cave
This is really just actually an overhang if you will because there's actually three large rocks here
And we think that this one actually slid in this one because right here
We believe that these were probably stalactites at one point
So this might have been a straw that might have been a straw and then it just formed larger and larger as it came down
So these right here are matatas these two bowls and this would have been their mortar and pestle
So imagine someone sitting here and probably putting corn or wheat or something in there and grinding it
And so since they couldn't take these with them
They think they actually came back to this spot over and over and over again
Since they're nomadic tribes and so they actually resided here for quite a while and when it's like a hundred hundred and ten out here
108 whatever you'll come through that opening over there and it just changes like 10 to 20 degrees and
Then of course the stream that runs through here kind of probably brought them to this spot, too
So what we call the back door to the cave is right over this hill
It's a vertical cave that it started out about this big. We kept hearing something very audible underneath the ground
So we opened about my arms length doing about 12 to 14 feet under the ground
There was two streams coming together in the small little cave and it was falling down a waterfall
And we couldn't fit through the waterfall opening
So we put red healthy environmental friendly dye in there and about 30 minutes later
It actually came running through the back part of the cave where I took you guys and out the front of the caves
Do you see how like the whole mountain is connected? It's all connected at some point. Yeah
The water flow is the coolest part to me
Just how nature how it shapes everything too and how it finds a way no matter what it seems like
So this cave is about 75 foot deep. We've actually had people go into this one
It goes down in the what we call like little steps
But it's actually outcroppings or ledges that go dotting down through here. Some of my friends actually went down in this one
They actually tied off to this tree right here. And this is the picture looking off of the first ledge
It's a different world exactly
If you've made to that 75 foot point and don't break nothing you can crawl out about 40 feet 50 feet and it goes in
The crevice they haven't actually found the bottom to yet
If you want to drop that rock you kind of see it's trying to get in the middle
So that is actually just the first ledge
So if you're lucky enough and you can hear it just crumble keep on going and it just keeps going and going and going
I actually dropped a very large rock down in there and it hit all those ledges and it just kept going and going okay
Catching speed and what I think to me be the bottom made a really cool hollow sound
But was even neater to me is it actually reverberated through the ground like a miniature earthquake. I could feel in my feet
It was really cool
So my idea is we get a big I move them across here with the a-frame welded to with that winch on some wheels
little
cable coming down with like a buckle and like
Lights and stuff and I want to lower people down into it so they can actually see like a submerged part of it
but insurance companies like
Not a good idea, bro. So
We don't have our windshield yet. We're gonna get a windshield
We have some vertical caves over here
They're actually all over on this Ridge alone. There's at least 20 to 30 of them
So so this one's about the size of your guys's vehicle around
And you're more than welcome to get out is gonna be very slippery though
So right there where that tree is broken off is about 12 foot deep and then it goes down to about 16 to 20 foot
Deep and there's a vertical cave that is actually down there
So Mimi and me I jumped down there run across there stick my hands and head in that thankfully
I'm up and topped on top of it because it took off 40 to 50 feet out that way
There was nothing to hold on to and right underneath that floor is actually just a false floor
So all the rocks have fallen and crushed together and made a false floor. So I look underneath them
there's a massive room that goes way back up inside of there all the way around and
It would be really super neat to get like a long arm extend an excavator with a thumb and pick all these rocks out and actually
Have stairs going down inside of there. It would definitely fit a vehicle in there
So these right here are actually vertical caves that turned into false floor sinkholes as you can see the leaves
They're kind of filling it in. There's actually two here
There's one right there and there's one behind that bigger tree back there
So these are actually all over the property and that's what we kind of just warn people not to wander off alone or and stuff
like that
There is the possibility that you could fall into a cavern like we've seen so and deep like yeah like rather deep so
Watch yourself right there. Sorry about that
So this was actually the only road slash trail on the property when I first got out here
But this trail right here has some old old history to this when the first homesteaders came out here
They actually logged most of these hills out here and clear-cut them and so they would skid them up these roads with ox
I was told from like the locals out here that
This trail right here was the only way off the property when it would flood out here
And I can't imagine bringing a team of ox up through here
The wildlife out here is very fun
Check out my favorite tree, which is this one right here, but that first hole up there actually held an owl in it forever
We can became friends kind of thing going on because he wasn't afraid of us
And then I think he outgrew his home, so he had to go find another one, but it was neat to see
This was homesteaded people were farming
I think they did run cattle out here and hay and stuff like that, but yeah, they homesteaded a lot of this area
That's for sure
If you look to your right you see that rock sticking out
So that is actually the right-hand side of the waterfall give you an aspect of how tall it is
We were about three to four hundred feet further up. That's actually where the water was running and running off that hill
It's gonna give you an aspect of the homesteading out here if you look right over here
You'll see rocks stacked on top of each other these actually run through these hills everywhere the homesteaders the farmers would pick those rocks
Up out of the field so they'd have the kids stack them like that
This is our streams right here. We kind of live over here, and this is like an island if you will
We actually had a tornado touchdown in this field and it jumped over these trees for whatever reason and then it touched down over here
You can see how the logs are laying there it knocked down about 50 trees through here, and there's my girl Luna and Lucy
Yeah, all right girls be good
Living here has its own challenges because this stream right here gets so powerful
It'll actually come up to the road right here
It gets about this deep right here, and it actually washed all of our concrete down and around the corner
We do have this little cave right here
There is a waterfall inside this hill on a little pool inside there, and this goes miles inside there, too
So these are some of the rock walls right here that I was telling you about yeah the homesteader
Yep, so my aunt had a friend the lady is like a hundred and two years old living over this hill over here
And she remembers being like five to ten years old and being out in this area
And she said that before they went to church or school
They'd have to come out and pick up rocks like this and stack them every day before they went to school or something like that
So this is remnants of homesteading right here, and we do find some plows and whatnot
We'd kind of decorate the property with them, so it's kind of neat this cave right here
You couldn't even see into this when we first got here
We've cleared it up, but there's actually called a glory hole, but on that right hand side
There's a cave, and it's actually pretty massive inside there in the water will shoot out about this big
How do you get up there so we repelled off this last time off the face of it up there into it the first year?
There's a rope right there, but it's rotten now
But that's how I climbed up there with a couple of ladders, so I cleaned all that out
You know and then that round hole and left-hand side is actually another cave system that goes way back inside of there
It's pretty spectacular
You'll see like a little roof right there. There's like a little house roof
So that's actually their outhouse that they would use for the cave
Way back when before the road was actually established, and they'd have to walk all the way down here and use the bathroom
So imagine that you know back when we didn't have cell phones
There's stress out here like the healthy stress
Where you don't get that much healthy stress being in a city
If people will just come out here and slow down and just let the property absorb
They'll they'll feel it too, but we lived it firsthand. Let's put it that way
