Hello everyone and welcome to my new studio in my new apartment. I just moved in a few
weeks ago and I wanted to share how I set everything up and what I've been up to since
moving here. I'm so so happy and grateful to have my own little separate space for painting
since before I just had a little corner in a studio apartment so this space feels really huge
to me. Now I originally wanted to paint and decorate the walls as well but as you can tell
from this hole in the wall there was some construction to be done first so unfortunately
it has to wait for a little bit. But I still wanted to unpack everything anyway and just
get everything set up for painting again. I love the light, the room that's in and I'm very very
happy to have just a fully blank slate to work with and I also really love all the original
elements this apartment has like the stained glass and the doors and the wooden floors.
So if you have any suggestions on what color I should paint the walls I'd be truly happy to hear
I kind of want to emulate like a classic 19th century painting studio but I'm still gathering
inspiration. In my last video I started working on this little autumn still life that I set up
in the forest and I really wanted to complete it just before winter would officially start.
Since now I have some proper space for my big easel I really want to use it more
even though this small painting looks a little disproportionate on it.
Since the apples were already mostly done I really focused on painting the leaves and
I really spent a long long time on them. Actually longer than I would have liked but
I really wanted to keep a lot of the looseness and movement within the leaves but also give
some more detail. I kept on working in small slightly transparent layers to try and give
the leaves more depth and detail in this way instead of endlessly trying to render every
individual detail. I am quite happy with how it turned out even though I think I could have
worked a little more on the basket but I'm trying to take each painting as a positive lesson. That
is my new year's resolution to be a little less critical of myself and just allowing myself to be
proud of the things I make. I really wanted to explore new cities new areas and especially
museums after completing this painting and after spending way too long indoors which is something
I'm very good at. I was just itching for some inspiration to start painting again in this new
place and looking at paintings online or in books will will only get me so far and nothing really
compares to seeing a painting in person. And museums like this one I visited here will never
not amaze me with its high ceilings and enormous rooms full of paintings. It feels like walking
into a different world with all kinds of different memories from the past. I love intently staring at
giant paintings of masters and feeling so incredibly small which maybe sounds a little
strange but I absolutely love that feeling because it really puts everything into perspective and
gives me a real push to work a lot harder on my own paintings.
I noticed that all around the museum there were these little blobs of light on the floor
and they seemed a little random at first but they looked like texts somehow and when I put
out my hand these little quotes were revealed that were related to the paintings in the room
and I love this little one on still lives especially. I've heard some people say that
they find still lives boring because they usually perceive it as just a setup of random objects but
I think this little quote helps to explain the beauty of still lives quite well. Often still
lives also symbolize the passage of time and how life is fleeting which I think is quite beautiful.
This quote also reminded me of the apples I just painted and how I was trying to still convey the
movement of falling autumn leaves that were blowing in the wind even though they might seem
to lay still in the painting and capturing that movement and life within still objects
is a real challenge so I hope to do it more often.
Before working on my next painting I wanted to pack some orders that I received for a few of
my paintings. It really keeps amazing me that people from all across the world are collecting
some of my pieces and I feel so incredibly grateful and lucky that I'm able to pack each
and every one and send them off to you. Luckily they all arrived before Christmas so I'm very
happy about that and I'm so eternally grateful to each and every one of you who purchased the
This is truly the best Christmas present I could ever hope for so thank you all so much.
I recently bought this big wooden palette because I needed a bigger surface to mix paint on whenever
I'm working on bigger pieces just because the glass palette in my push it box is more suitable
for smaller pieces. I also really wanted for the palette to sit upright just because I think it's
a lot more helpful for me to see and mix the colors right next to my painting to be really
more accurate and precise with my colors. For now I set it up on the easel itself but I'm really
looking for a more permanent way to set it up next to my easel, maybe on some sort of tripod
but I couldn't really find anything online so if any of you have any tips I would really love to
hear them. I started on this bigger painting a while ago but as it usually goes whenever I'm
working on a big piece I tend to leave it unfinished for a while but I really want to
finish this and I felt especially motivated after my museum visit to finish and make more big
paintings. I started the base layer of the face a while ago so I finally worked on mostly completing
the face and upper body. I'm trying to work in multiple layers to hopefully bring out more
interesting textures and colors so all of her clothing will still need some more work after all
these layers dry. Now that I've worked more on the fabrics and the position of her hands and the rest
of her body and the image of what the finished result will look like has really come back to me
because before I was just looking at this unfinished floating body for months so I'm
very happy and excited to continue working on her and of course I will take you along more of the
process as well. I just want to thank you all so much for watching and for your overwhelming support
and I hope you'll bear with me as I still figure out what to do with the studio as it looks a
little unfinished right now but I will keep you updated of course. I'm so grateful for all of you
and I hope you're all enjoying the holiday season and I hope to see you in the new year!
