I'm choosing paint for the old 1950s greenhouse restoration, I'm picking out the right color combinations and it can be so hard, Id love your help. Jason is building a new door for the green house and I also got in a ton of new plants for the flower farm and the new gardens at the Orchard Hight's house from @MonroviaPlants and the farmers market. I hope you enjoy the garden transformation on the Mothers day.

Well hello everyone and welcome back to Crowley House Flower Farm and Nursery. Today we are working
on the greenhouse project up at the Orchard Heights house. But first of all I wanted to say
happy Mother's Day to everyone. I hope you're having a beautiful day and I'm thankful that
you are a part of our special Mother's Day celebration as Brayden and I are going to be
working on the greenhouse today and then Jason is working on a new door. So it's just kind of
using what we have here on the farm and then we're gonna paint the greenhouse. So I had primered it
the other day and now we're gonna paint it. So Jason has been working on this door for a while
and it's a big project so it didn't get done in a week but at least you can kind of see the vision
that we're going with. It's a beautiful old door with a window that is a Tudor window that I had
in the Crowley House up on the wall. A neighbor gave it to me and actually I have two of them
and so I thought well one of them might look really pretty here. Now this greenhouse we are
going to replace the glass and things like that around this door but I thought the door would
just well we need a new door. Jason built this door and it's not very functional. So anyways
Brayden and I are going to paint. We're going to clean up a little bit. We have some plants that
we're going to pop in and also I got a big plant haul in from Monrovia Nursery which is really
cool and I thought I would go through some of the plants that we are planting here in the next few
projects here at the Orchard Heights house. So we have two paint colors that we're using today.
One is James White which is a furrow and ball color and then we have this one's called Embassy
Green and this is by Benjamin Moore. So both of these are kind of what we're thinking. We're going
to try it on the greenhouse and live with it for a little bit to see if we really love it and then
be able to make the decision. Part of me wants to go a little bit more green. To me this this
Embassy Green looks a little bit brown so we'll see. I just got to live with it for a while.
So I'm going to show you the door a little bit and talk about that. So this is an old window
that I found. Well I didn't find it. The neighbor gave it to me and was going to throw it away.
It's an old Tudor style window and we had it in our old Crowley house and just as like wall art
because it's very rare to find windows like this. But what we're doing is just getting it ready to
use one of the door because I have two of these. One of them for the insert on the door for the
greenhouse. I think it's going to look really really pretty. I feel like sometimes like anything
china anything like that you can either just have it sitting in a cupboard looking really really
pretty or you can use it. And so in this case I've chosen to use one of them on this door and the
other one I'm going to use somewhere else but that's going to be indoors. So we are redoing
this window. It's taken us a lot of time but I think it's going to look great. It's Mother's
Day week and by the way happy Mother's Day to everybody. But it's always been a really busy
week for us because we are a flower farm and so we're always doing lots of bouquets. We also got
a beautiful haul of plants for the house. So I thought maybe if I have time I'm going to squeak
this in and show you kind of what we have going and what we're going to be planting out here at
the Orchard Heights house. Okay so I wanted to chat through this. So what I'm thinking to do is embassy
green just on the trim here and a little bit where the window will be. I'm not sure if I love that or
if I want to just keep everything kind of clean and white. It's kind of a creamy white right now.
The colors are just in like a primer. So this has all just been primed. So now I just have to throw
some paint on it and then eventually we're going to redo all this in glass. So it should look really
nice and then keep everything else white. The only reason that I want to do kind of a color
combination is more of the fact that I want to sit on it and mill on it to see if I want to paint
the whole house and trim that color. And I do better if I can just kind of look at it for a
long time. And obviously paint is really easy to change out. So that's my thinking. Obviously let me
know what you guys think at the end of this video. If you like the colors or have any suggestions or
maybe go a little more green or I don't know what. Anyways it's just you know it's just one of those
things. All right so I'm gonna go ahead and get my paintbrush and all the supplies that I need.
Brayden is weeding really quickly around the front of it. We're gonna go ahead and paint first and
then we're going to get it planted up. So the next project we're gonna tackle is this side here.
We haven't done anything to it and it's just like a monster of overgrown everything. So we even have
a tree back here, a little volunteer. But yeah we're gonna clean this up. This will be in the next
coming videos. We're probably gonna get the door on first and then kind of start tackling this. We're
gonna have a new roof coming but it's really expensive so we gotta wait until I save some
more pennies and yeah it'll be good. So basically what we bought was some sarcococa. We've got some
weigela and we've got some viburnums. Plus I ordered a few things for a project that we're
doing in the front of the yard. So let's just go through each one so you can see them. So
one of the things we got is sarcococa and that makes for a great cut. It is partial shade so
here at the Orchard Heights house we have a lot of shade that we're able to put something like
this in. It does allow for full some sun but a little bit and so this gets five by five. So
sarcococa is a great substitution for boxwood. If you can't grow boxwood or have boxwood blight
this is a great one. It has a really fragrant smell, white little dainty flower on it. So as far
as the weigelas go, this one is coco chill and this is all of these are from Monrovia. Monrovia
as you know I love them love perennials but this one is just a really bright color. This one only
gets about three by three so it's smaller. This one will probably use in the landscape a little
bit more than we would as a cut flower. Some of the other varieties or older varieties get really
really big and we can use them as a cut. I did get this one which is a variegated called magical
fantasy weigela and this one gets a little bit larger. It's about four by four so this one we
would cut on it for like weddings and arrangements. I love that variegated leaf which is really really
pretty. So I ended up getting a couple of roses and this is like a shrub rose that just blooms
all season long. You can see all these fantastic blooms. This is again from Monrovia. All of this
is for the most part. We have a few things that aren't but this is called nitty gritty white rose
and you can see on the tag it's got that yellow center in it and if you saw my palette that I'm
I'm introducing just a tiny bit of white which is kind of hard to do in a garden
but with that little yellow center it's going to be actually a little bit easier to work into the
garden. We have a viburnum here which is huge. So this one is double files viburnum and so this we
use mainly for a cut. We can also use it in the fall because it has beautiful fall foliage on it.
So we got a couple of these guys which are pretty big and then let's go see what else we have. We
have a couple van hoyt spireas that I picked up actually at the farmer's market. There's a
very very nice lady there that grows a lot of this stuff and so we picked these up. We have more of
them coming actually. This is great for wedding work and I love the little dainty flower on it.
So we'll plant those. We have some snowball viburnums. These actually get pretty well,
are big. They're eastern snowballs and they get about 10 by 12. So they have the little fluff
ball on them. We use this a lot in bouquets. We have a whole bunch of those. Some more white
gilas down here. More of the variegated that we picked up at the farmer's market and then we have
your standard traditional white gila which is the, this guy gets huge. So this one's going to go
into the landscape as well but we'll probably use it as a cut. Anyways this is all our beautiful
pellets that we are going to be planting out either in the field or here throughout the
landscape that we'll be cutting on for weddings and events and things like that. So anyways it's
pretty fun. Just lots going on. This new little garden bed that we planted up the other day
together which was super fun is starting to take shape. Color is starting to happen but we didn't
put down any bark dust. So Brayden today is going to be adding the bark dust as well as helping me
paint. So we're gonna make it look all spiffy and get a few more things in the ground. I do have a
few things here that I want to plant alongside of the front of the greenhouse. So I got some cranium
roseanne. This is a plant that is full to, full sun to partial shade which this definitely gets
just afternoon sun a little bit for a couple hours so that's pretty good. This is early
blooms to late summer and it's kind of got a, not a very good photo but it's kind of purple
which I think would look really nice here in this garden. We've got a lot of those colors going on.
This is hardiness zone five to eight which is really nice, kind of broad. So this gets about
20 inches tall and you need them about 24 inches apart so that's perfect for the little space that
we have right there. So I also purchased a couple of these which is the merlot redbud and it is
just stunning. I love all this color. Look at the leaves are glossy. So this will bloom kind of a
bright pink bloom in early spring and then it fills out to having these beautiful burgundy
leaves and I'm going to show you why I chose this. So here's the tea house and this is just like a
canopy of trees but you can tell that there's a red maple there next to, this is like a magnolia
that blooms in the spring, a beautiful white kind of bloom. Look at that dogwood you guys,
it's so pretty. Anyways, so we have kind of this collection here and then if you go this way we
have kind of a parking area for cars and then we have this lovely view of all these barns and
things like that. So we used to have a whole bunch of trees in here. This was a big orchard so you
didn't see all the barns. So what I'm doing is I just put a row of these are just some arborvita
that we put in and then we're gonna pop those redbuds back behind it and then I'm gonna fill
in this space as well eventually. I'm not sure what yet but there's some euphorbia here and then
obviously we've had a lot of, there's some euphorbia coming up here so I'm gonna have to
dig that out. It's gonna be a long long process but anyways that's the idea is that they'll
somewhat cover this and eventually I'm gonna do a green hedge that's gonna go along the whole,
there's a deer fencing back there so it's gonna go along the whole thing so you just won't get,
you might see a little bit of the tip of the top of those barns over there but for the most part
you know this will be a nice cush. I have these pots left over from an event that we did and so
I thought just to kind of flank the walk path for now until I figure out what I'm gonna do with them
but aren't they gorgeous? We're losing daylight but I like how it's coming together. Obviously
this is not the finished work. Jason's gonna order some glass that's gonna go into the sides here
and then I think it's gonna make a little bit crisper. I am liking the color of this. Obviously
this is just like just for me to kind of see and mill over. Brayden is here with me which is
bringing my mama's heart. I love it when my kids get out on the garden with me. He's gonna plant
up really quickly along this little planter box which is kind of an odd little shape but we'll
see how this goes. It's very dry so we're gonna have to give it some good water. He's done a
little bit of fertilizer in it and then um yeah gonna we're almost done. So as we honor mothers
I've been thinking actually while I was cleaning up around this little greenhouse I found my
mother's little shoes. Not little but they were just like shoes. It probably fit me but it's
interesting because I started thinking about it and I thought you know I'd see her loafing around
with her little morning coat on and you know she would be out there watering and plucking
away at things and and she's no longer with us. She passed about a year and a half ago but um it's
just fun to find little treasures of you know things like her little garden shoes and so I'm
thinking okay how do I you know I don't know honor her some way so I'm thinking hmm maybe I'll plant
them up with some succulents or something like that or just tuck them into the little greenhouse
somewhere just to remind me of her and they're nothing special but they were hers and there's
a special memory behind it so it's kind of fun. But anyways I don't know I think about being a mom
and what that all entails and how you know there's all these things that you you know you never know
exactly what you're signing up for. You have this new little baby and everything's so exciting and
so fun and then you're just like life happens and things happen and you never know quite what you're
gonna get being a mom. You know what life's gonna bring you with your children and or you know just
sometimes there's tragedies there's things that you celebrate there's you know all these life's
moments that you know when you're a new mom you have no clue about so and then as you get older
and you learned you know when I was young I probably didn't like my mom actually I liked my
mom quite a bit but you know there's moments where you don't like your mom and then you know you have
kids and they don't like you and then you know the whole cycle goes um so it's been just kind of fun
for me this year just kind of reflect back and you know when I ran across her garden shoes I
thought wow what these shoes have done what you know all the little pedal paddles around the
garden what they've seen what they've you know been through so anyways I hope everybody is enjoying
their mother's day weekend and celebrating in whatever way you can and enjoying the moments
memories those kinds of things. Okay I just can't decide if I want to do the green trim the the
embassy green on the whole door or just do the whole door white. I guess that's the decision
we have to make. Do we want to paint it all that green in the top or do we want to just do it all
white? What do you think Brayden? I think both would look nice. I think all one color for everything
but oh yeah the whole door green yeah the whole door green okay let's do that green on this side
white on the end it's going to be a while before we paint it so next well what you can do is you
could just paint the door green and then leave that white and see how it looks oh before and
just leave it primed yeah and if you don't like that then we can do the window green as well
yeah that's a good idea okay all right back to the workshop well I hope you enjoyed that video
and all the plants isn't that amazing I'm so looking forward to popping them in the ground
some of them obviously are going to be for cup production for the flower farm and for all the
things that we do bouquets we've done hundreds this weekend but it's really cool to be a part
of so many mothers weekend celebrations and so that's really fun for me to see we've had so many
people come out to the farm and say hello and just make us a traditional part of what they celebrate
or how they celebrate their mother so that's been kind of cool now if you haven't yet please
subscribe like and share with a friend if you think they'd like to tag along with us here at
Crowley house flower farm nursery and you know have a gardener friend that might like to join
in with us it'd be fun to have them okay guys until next time much success in all you do and
grow and we'll be seeing you shortly back here at Crowley house flower farm very very soon bye
