Welcome everybody.
Come on.
Happy Thursday.
Yeah, isn't it?
GDLA Plus.
It's been a wild morning, by the way.
Like what is happening?
I don't know.
I have an eyelash in my eye right now.
We're going to get it together and we're going to get to some of those wild stories
coming up.
But first, I'm so excited about this.
I need this in my life.
Coming up, sweat to swim focuses on pieces that let you seamlessly transition from a
hard workout to, I don't know, taking a dip in the ocean or the pool without needing a
wardrobe change.
Oh, I love that.
I think it could go from desk to workout, too.
Absolutely.
Some of these looks are killer.
We're going to show you some of them coming up.
Stay tuned.
You're not going to want to miss it.
Super cute.
Also, you haven't seen much of her all morning with the breaking news, but Amanda's here
today and she's going to tell us whether we should screen it or stream it with her review
of Christopher Nolan's epic, The Odyssey.
Breaking news.
So let's get to some of those stories.
A more than 100-year-old water main ruptures overnight causes serious flooding and damage
to a West Hollywood neighborhood.
Mario live with an update.
You've been on this story for hours now, Mario.
Tell us what's going on now.
Yeah, it has been about almost 10 hours.
This all started at 315, that ruptured pipeline here along Sunset and Holloway Drive.
And we can tell you, crews here from LADWP, they can't start assessing the damage of that
pipeline over a century old until they pump out all the water from that sinkhole here
along the Sunset Strip.
And they're still doing that right now.
It's going to be quite a while.
They're bringing in the heavy equipment, the bulldozer.
The force of this water is so powerful, it ripped up a part of the roadway and it created
that sinkhole.
And you can see the efforts here, LADWP crews using pumps to remove standing water from
the area so they can safely assess the damage and then begin repairs.
And how long that'll take, we still don't have a timeline.
So let's go to the video here showing you what this was doing early this morning.
The break first reported just after three o'clock this morning.
Again, Sunset and Holloway Drive water from the broken main rushing through the neighborhood
for hours before crews were able to stop the flow around seven o'clock.
So that's roughly four hours, thousands of gallons of water rushing south down Palm Avenue
where it flooded the street, swamped parked cars and sent water pouring into apartment
complex garages before continuing down onto Santa Monica Boulevard.
A stretch of Santa Monica was also closed this morning.
As daylight broke, we saw residents coming out.
They were trying to wade through the water.
Some of them also, some trying to drive through as they were making their way out.
Some of them going to work.
And we heard from LADWP, as well as Mayor Karen Bass, who oversees that agency, visiting
the scene here saying that this really underscores the challenges of maintaining infrastructure
that's been in service for more than 100 years.
She also highlighted some of the resources for these residents who've been impacted if
they need it.
Take a listen.
You see, there is a major sinkhole right here.
Law enforcement and traffic officers will remain on the ground as crews continue to
make progress on this incident.
DWP will also have personnel on the ground to assist with damage assessments and claims.
People can also go to this website, LADWP.com slash claims.
All right, so several streets still remain closed here near Holloway and Sunset, a major
thoroughfare.
Officials urging drivers to avoid the area until that damage can be assessed and the
roadway is safe to open.
Let's come back out here live because right next to all this activity, we've also been
talking about the several businesses that have been impacted here in this popular stretch.
And Howard's going to pan over and he'll show you the line at Supreme Clothing Store.
We were talking to some of the people who were out here as early as 5 o'clock this morning,
some who came from as far as San Diego, and they were worried that they wouldn't open.
But they did, in fact, open at 11 o'clock.
It appears that they have water.
Many of the businesses and residents are gaining their service back after being without
water for hours.
So, you know, we're also talking about how it's no coincidence that many of these big
water main breaks are discovered overnight when water drops, the water pressure, or I
should say the water demand and the pressure builds that really puts a strain on the system.
So that's what we saw here early this morning.
It was around 3 o'clock.
This happened.
Residents called 9-1-1 and LADWP officials saying that overnight is when the pipes really
get stressed with the lack of water being used.
A lot of people asleep, not taking showers, not using the water.
And unfortunately, this aging pipeline here in 1916 is when it was put in and it gave
way early this morning.
For now, Live in West Hollywood, we'll send it back to you.
Yeah, that is common in major cities like that.
I used to, you know, when I lived and worked in New York, we would cover water main breaks
like that all the time.
And these pipes were 80 to 100 years old.
And that's something that Karen Bass was talking about during the press conference today.
She said this is something that she's been trying to work on, is making sure there's
a comprehensive infrastructure plan and, you know, moving forward, something's got to change
there.
I mean, water main breaks, even in that area earlier, they were talking about it happens
all the time.
It's just that this magnitude was very much unusual.
Right.
Brooke is also at the scene in West Hollywood.
Brooke, where exactly are you?
Hey there.
Yeah, I'm right here at Sunset and Holloway.
I'll move over here because we have a better look at that sinkhole.
Can you all see that?
I mean, it is massive.
Their biggest issue once, of course, the water stopped is they needed to pump all the water
out of there.
And that was what needed to happen before they could even get in there and assess the
damage.
And I talked to a rep from the fire department who told me that there was a lot of water,
like an unbelievable amount of water in that sinkhole there.
It is obviously incredibly dangerous.
And that's just part of why Sunset is blocked off here.
But I want to let everybody know Sunset is blocked off for a long while.
We've seen people kind of hopping over the barriers and coming through here.
There was a woman, poor thing, she woke up and tried to come over here.
Uber dropped her off, coming to our hotel at the London, had no idea what was going
on.
And you cannot get through on Sunset.
You think you'll get a certain ways and a police officer will come and stop you.
So just save your time, save your hassle.
Go another route.
You're going to have to go around a very long way because I tell you, Sunset and close to
Sunset is blocked off for quite a bit.
I couldn't even get out.
Once you get in here, we're kind of stuck in here just for fear of not being able to
be let back in.
So keep that in mind.
And just, you know, when it comes to a timeline, you guys, of when this might be fixed, they
don't know.
They really don't know.
They just know that there's an incredible amount of damage and it's going to be a while
back to you.
And I hope it doesn't get worse.
Brooke, thank you.
I feel for all the people out there with going to work, having lives, I mean, complete disruption,
which isn't just about today.
It's going to carry on.
Okay.
This one.
Did you see this?
We were talking about how it's a crazy day today.
Okay.
This is one of the craziest pursuits we have covered, I think is fair to say.
So this pursuit suspect now under arrest after trying to evade officers by swimming into
the ocean.
So let me tell you what happened.
The video you're seeing, he's already in the water.
Let me tell you how he got in the water.
It started at seven 30.
He was wanted on a felony warrant.
He took off on foot when LAPD tried to contact him in Pacific Palisades.
The foot chase though ended at Roger state beach.
That's when he jumped into the ocean.
He was hoping to escape by the way, in the process he took off his pants.
So he was also pantless.
So he's in that water.
There were two lifeguards, which they're like hanging out near him.
They were talking to him.
I don't know, maybe trying to convince him to give up, but he wouldn't.
And then I guess they thought he was in distress or he could see him go under the water for
a second.
He'd been in there for a while.
Yeah.
So they try to help him.
He's fighting them off.
Like the entire time there's this struggle that look, he's like, right, lifeguards going
under.
Finally, they tried to get him on the boat, but this still fighting, still fighting, again,
I want to just say he was pantless the whole time, which, you know, couldn't get too close
to things.
But also subtracts from things because I'm just saying a half naked man in the water,
you don't have to worry about weapons, right?
That's a good point.
But you do have to worry about him struggling.
And then you have these two lifeguards who I'm guessing are not trained in criminal pursuits
like this.
I would love to interview those lifeguards by the way.
So please contact us.
They did a heck of a job.
What you were saying to him, what he was saying to you anyway, he was taken into custody eventually.
But that was wild.
I would love to know what the conversation was though.
Me too.
Because they were hanging out there for a good, what, 45 minutes?
Yeah.
He was treading water.
While he was treading water?
Yeah.
When you saw how far offshore he was, how far he had to swim.
He did not want to get caught.
No, he did not.
Anyway.
What stamina.
Hey, speaking of circuses, the circus is back in town, but this one's the real circus.
So the iconic Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus is rolling into Anaheim and
Coco McEvoy is live at the Honda Center with a preview of what's in store.
Coco, aren't you glad you're like at the happiest place right now?
The happiest place.
I was so like fascinated by that story when you were just talking about the pursuit.
I saw it live too and I just, yeah, that was unbelievable.
But what is equally cool of course is Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey.
This is truly a historic show.
We're talking about the greatest show on earth and I want to bring in Skyler now.
You are known as the human rocket, which is so cool.
We see the rocket.
So tell us about what the human rocket does.
So I climb inside of the rocket and I go from zero to 65 miles per hour.
I go about 110 feet across the arena.
Oh my goodness.
That's incredible.
And what's so cool about it is you were really born into this, right?
Yes.
So both of my parents were human cannonballs on Ringling.
So I was really lucky to grow up here, but now I'm here performing myself.
That's cool.
And tell us about the show, what it's like, the atmosphere when it's all underway.
It's so amazing.
You know, just being here in the, in this arena with the audience and how excited they
get and just feeding off of the joy and the excitement that they give us.
Because what is the reaction when you launch out of that rocket for the crowd?
It is so amazing.
I do struggle to hear some things because I'm inside of the rocket, but just to feel
their energy just makes me so grateful that I'm able to be here.
Yes.
Because what has it been like for you and the team to perform here at the Honda Center?
It's been so good.
The audience has been so reactive and so energetic and just to see them bouncing and having fun
makes us also have fun.
Right before we went live, I noted, I was like, Skylar's actually the perfect name for
you.
And then you told me a story about how you got the name Skylar.
So when my parents found out that I was going to be born, they were looking through the
baby book and they saw Skylar and it means projectile.
So it was kind of perfect that I'm the human rocket.
Thank you so much, Skylar.
You fit your name perfectly and what a cool thing you do for Ringling Brothers and Barnum
and Bailey.
If you want to come to this show, which I think you should, it's happening this weekend,
Saturday and Sunday, lots of times available.
And you can just go to ringling.com to learn all of your information.
Tickets for kids 2 to 12 years old, just 20 bucks and parking is included with your ticket,
which is also great.
So I'll send it back to you.
Always great when parking is included.
Thank you so much.
Yes.
All right.
Now, this is something I am looking forward to.
Okay.
Coming up, going from the gym to a swim without changing.
How great is that?
Sweat to Swim's founder, Natalie Konicella, has brought her looks and she's going to show
them all to us next.
Temps are going up, which means the fashion's going down here at GDLA+.
With summer in full swing, luxury performance swimwear brand Sweat to Swim is designed to
let you move seamlessly from your morning workout to a day at the beach.
And Natalie Konicella is here to introduce us to her designs, which you're wearing one
right now.
Hi, Natalie.
I am.
You look so cute.
Thank you so much.
Yes.
So I'm wearing our 19th hole suit.
So think, right from the golf course, right into the pool.
So we're bridging the gap from land to sea.
Our...
Oh, I like that.
Yeah.
So the buttons will not tarnish.
So go play 18 holes and then meet your family and friends at the pool.
And you just wore this.
Where did you just wear this?
Okay.
So I just wore this on a date a couple of weeks ago.
How did the date go?
It wasn't great, but the outfit...
That's great.
Out of the park.
Yeah.
Right?
At least you got the outfit out of it.
I got the outfit.
Yes.
And you're going to show us some more looks.
I was getting a sneak peek backstage and I love it.
But before we get to our beautiful models, I want to know what inspired you not only
to sweat and to swim, but to create.
Well, it was something that was missing in my own closet.
I love my morning runs and I was missing something that could take me from my morning run right
into a cold plunge, right into the ocean.
So that's where I came up with the idea of sweat to swim.
I love that.
Very versatile.
It's like a two-in-one.
Oh, I like...
We love a two-in-one.
Yes.
Not with our shampoos and body washes most of the time, but with our outfits, yes, especially
for summer.
Yes.
So I know that we're going to have some models come out.
So let's bring out our first look, shall we?
We shall.
Woo!
Look at this beauty.
This is our top spin.
I love this.
Top styled with our pivot skirt.
You look great.
I love the tie.
First thing, go from pickleball, then jump right into the pool.
From pickleball to pool.
Wow.
Yeah, right to lunch.
So it's very versatile and again, takes you from land to sea.
Can you show me your pickleball swing?
There she goes.
There you go.
I love it.
And you can see, yeah, so we have the extra support on the top, we have the bow on the
bottom.
You look great.
And then there's an internal button as well for it to stay in place.
Yes.
And I like the color combo.
Very classic.
And I like the way she paired it.
You can even, she paired it with tennis shoes, but you can do it with flip-flops.
Or even dress it up and throw on a cute pair of white sandal heels.
Wedges?
Maybe little wedges.
Yes, love that.
I love that.
Okay, next we got this little South Bay stunner.
Come on out.
Yes.
This is one of our best sellers.
Inspired by Grace Kelly.
This is our MVP.
And so with Sweat to Swim, it's all about functionality, right?
If the function's not there, then you don't have what we are creating.
So the buttons, again, do not tarnish.
We have the crisscross back, and all of our bottoms are moderate coverage.
And we styled her with our freestyle sarong.
I like that.
And what's great about our first collection and our collaboration, which we will talk
about, everything's under $200.
Okay, that's great.
Yes.
More money for accessories down the line.
I heard that you watch us every single morning.
I do.
Oh, and model by day, viewer by morning, as well.
Love it.
Awesome, love that.
And who was photographed in this was Bethany Frankel, so we are very excited about that.
Okay.
So we are getting great feedback, and the material is so comfortable.
It's super cute.
It looks great on you.
It is.
It was inspired by Grace Kelly.
Hello.
So I want to showcase that.
Hollywood.
Totally.
Athletics can be cute.
Yeah.
It can be feminine.
Yes.
Dressy, even.
I love that.
Okay, our next look, and I love, thank you so much.
You look great.
I love this material, this pattern, everything.
Oh, you should see it in the sunlight.
It is absolutely gorgeous.
This is our net set top that we did with Fat Boy Surf Club.
We actually, our first collection, we brought it back in Navy because everybody loved it
so much.
So if you turn around, it has, the top has adjustable straps.
Oh, great.
And the clasp is flat.
So when you're laying out in the sun, you don't have anything, you know, hurting you
or bugging you.
So it's so comfortable.
And we styled it with our lotus sarong, which is very versatile.
So you'll see a lot of our pieces, you can mix and match.
I mean, with our lotus sarong, you can even style it with matching.
A little matchy-match moment, right?
We love a matchy-match moment.
Yes.
You could do separate, you could do matchy-matchy.
Yeah, so everything is very versatile.
Very good, thank you so much.
And who do we have next?
Oh, it's Barbara.
You guys, this is very exciting.
We did a collaboration with my friend Ryan Rock's brand, Fat Boy Surf Club.
This, we are honoring America Turning 250 this summer.
So an all-American summer.
So for the women's, I designed a spandex short that was missing in my closet.
I wanted to go on my morning run, and then I wanted to jump in the ocean.
That is so cute.
Honoring America Turning 250.
So we went with a red, white, and blue theme.
The top is a pull-on, sports bra-inspired top.
And then the men's is the striped short.
Yeah, hunks and trunks.
Totally.
You got the navy waistband.
Oh, I like the navy waistband.
We have a back pocket, zippers, four-way stretch, drawstring.
I mean, we love it.
Oh, hold on, my remote is ringing.
Hello?
Oh, it's the Baywatch reboot.
They want to know if you're busy.
They want to cast you, guys, because you're looking like Baywatch right now.
Okay, I'll have their people call your people.
Gotta go.
Looking good.
Looking great.
David, are you our last model?
Come on out.
I see our stage manager in the way.
Let's bring everyone back out.
Ladies, I know you've been watching.
Which one do you want?
Yes.
Right.
Yeah, so this was inspired by playing golf and then meeting my family up at the pool.
Again, all of the buttons will not tarnish.
It's very versatile.
I'm a former teacher and coach, and I've been saying since day one,
I'm not here to reinvent an industry.
I'm here to enhance an experience.
It was missing in my own closet, so I wanted to create it because it was missing in mine.
I know other people would enjoy it.
It's very versatile.
Well, we have athleisure, and this is for the water, so maybe this is bath leisure, you know?
Soaking it, sweating it, swimming it.
You just got to do all the things.
Do all the things.
Go on a date in it.
Totally.
And the best part is that you're not packing as much, right?
You can go to the beach and throw a sarong on.
It completes the look, and you still look put together.
It doesn't look like you just got off the beach.
That's right.
Okay, guys, let me see your best summer poses as we let everyone know where they can get these looks.
Check out Natalie's line at sweat2swim.com.
Thank you so much, Natalie.
Awesome, and we will be popping up this week until Sunday at the local moose in Manhattan Beach,
and then the following weekend, the 25th, we will be at Fred Siegel Home and Sunday at Bottle Inn
across from Hermosa, Martha's in Hermosa Beach.
So definitely come on by.
Busy and dressed.
Yes.
I love it.
Love it.
It's Niagara Falls.
Yeah.
All right.
Well, look at it.
Because water is a big theme.
Oh, yeah.
You know, today...
Is this water supposed to be there?
Yeah, this water is supposed to be there.
For sure.
Have you?
You know, it's a shame I haven't since I went to school in Syracuse, upstate New York,
and never went to Niagara Falls.
It's kind of embarrassing.
Oh, you've never been, period.
Uh-uh.
Wow.
Yeah.
Should we go?
Have you been?
No, I haven't.
Oh, my gosh.
Me either.
What?
You lived in New York when I did, too, but it's upstate.
I know.
Yeah, it's not like in the city.
I have more of an excuse than you do.
Fine.
Yeah.
Hey, happy official release day for The Odyssey here in L.A. to all who celebrate.
I celebrate.
I saw the film this week.
A film that is eyeing a $200 million global opening weekend at the box office.
And if there was one movie that I was looking forward to seeing the most this year, The Odyssey was top of my list.
And now I'm about to let you know if it should be on the top of yours.
If he returned, he'd have to kill him.
Like you will.
Gods don't speak in ways we understand.
Who doesn't understand pain or blood the gods told you?
Then I defy the gods.
Ooh, I have chills.
I know.
Written and directed by Christopher Nolan.
Oscar-winning Christopher Nolan.
Inspired thousands of years ago by the poet Homer.
The Odyssey starring Matt Damon as Odysseus, Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, John Leguizamo, Lupita Nyong'o, John Bernthal, Samantha Morton, Hinesh Patel, Charlize Theron, and I can go on and on.
Most of the cast dazzled and truly transformed in each of their respective roles.
But the true stars of the film, ladies, the sound, the cinematography, the sea.
The way Nolan uses sound in his films is a master class in and of itself.
Nolan knows who to call.
When you know how a story ends, yet you remain on the edge of your seat for almost three hours.
That is truly the mark of not only a good movie, but a solid experience.
It's a must see on the big screen.
And of course, since the film was the first feature film entirely shot on IMAX cameras, it should be experienced in IMAX at your local theater.
Each frame was art.
Universal Pictures actually offered select IMAX 70mm showings of The Odyssey exactly one year before its July 17th release, which is this week, but today in L.A.
And 95% of those available seats were sold within the first hour.
So, ladies.
Stream it.
And everyone.
Just kidding.
When it comes to Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, the $200 million question.
Should you screen it or stream it?
Drum roll, please.
I say you should screen it.
Yeah.
Of course.
Let me add another S word to it.
The sound, the cinematography.
See, he made The Odyssey sexy.
The Odyssey was truly sexy.
It was giving me OG Gladiator vibes.
Ooh.
Yes.
Mm-hmm.
And I definitely recommend screen it.
If you can get those tickets to see it in IMAX, definitely do so.
That's on my list.
I want to see it soon before everyone starts talking about it and before I see clips on TikTok.
Yeah.
That's one of those things.
Don't do that, by the way.
It doesn't matter, though.
It's still a movie you would see.
There's still, like, three hours of content.
I agree.
It seemed like every frame was art.
And let me tell you, it cost Christopher Nolan $250 million to make this movie because
a lot of it was global big sets, practical effects that went into it.
I mean, you have these A-list stars and all of this gear traveling around Europe.
I mean, Greece, Morocco, Italy, Iceland, Scotland.
They went around the world to film this movie, but it cost $250 million.
It's eyeing $200 million in its first weekend globally.
Wow.
Okay, why is it so cool that it was shot in IMAX?
And why is this the first of its kind to be shot entirely in IMAX?
I think you just have somebody like Christopher Nolan who changes the game.
I mean, he's a true lover of film, and he's not scared of it, but he is the first to say
that because of Oppenheimer's success was how he was able to film it entirely in IMAX.
It's not cheap.
No.
But you have somebody like Christopher Nolan who's saying,
this is how I want to do it.
And he just, you know, off this big Oppenheimer Oscar win saying,
I'm going to do this, and I'm going to do this well.
And you have a studio that backs him 100%.
Every frame, I mean, I can't even express to you when I'm sitting in that seat,
I felt like I was on the boat.
That's amazing.
I felt like I was also next to Himesh Patel.
I felt like I was feeling the breeze on my skin like Anne Hathaway.
And so it really is immersive in that sense where you are transported into that time.
That's amazing.
Yeah.
I mean, you don't even have to bring your passport.
I felt like there I was in Greece.
Definitely recommend seeing it.
And the score.
Man, Ludwig nails it.
Remember how he did it for Sinners?
That's right.
How he's done it for The Mandalorian.
So good.
And The Mandalorian and Grogu.
The man has a great ear.
Christopher Nolan knows who to call, not only in front of the camera,
but who's going to help him behind the scenes and behind the camera.
He's got the best Rolodex in Hollywood.
I wish Christopher Nolan were watching right now because I think his ears would be tickling right now.
Thank you.
Excellent review.
Thank you so much, ladies.
Oh, now let's talk about plastic surgery.
Okay.
What a segue.
You always want to put your best face forward, right?
I mean, even us.
Nah.
Just slum it up.
Well, Hollywood takes it to a whole new level.
But is it getting boring?
Well, according to the Hollywood Reporter and their experts, it's called Slop Face.
Oh.
They are asking, why do so many of today's stars look so samey?
Oh, it's like Uncanny Valley, like they all kind of look alike.
Well, you know who you can blame for that?
Casting directors.
Really?
Plastic surgery trends.
And with everything else these days, the biggest culprit?
Social media.
So the story has a list of the most requested features, trends, services.
Basically, it's a medical tourism guide.
And I'm going to roll call all the features that people are asking for.
They want Hailey Bieber's eyes.
Okay.
They want Kendall Jenner or Bella Hadid's nose.
They want Margot Robbie, Anne Hathaway, or Jennifer Aniston's smile.
Okay.
They want, this one's no surprise, Angelina Jolie or Sabrina Carpenter's lips.
Okay.
Jennifer Lopez or Julianne Moore's skin.
When it comes to cheekbones, Lindsay Lohan.
Lindsay Lohan's skin I'll take.
Yeah, they want Lindsay Lohan's cheekbones.
Jawline, Zendaya, Margot Robbie, Emma Stone.
And a little south of the border, when it comes to breasts,
they're looking at Sidney Sweeney or Taylor Swift.
Now, I did see this post online and it got immediate pushback
because these people, most of them, are all white.
There is not a, there is what, Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez.
Jennifer Lopez.
Outside of the two of them, I think.
The rest of the women on this list are white.
Of the Caucasian variety.
The Caucasian persuasion, if you will.
Not okay.
No.
Agreed.
Beauty standards have changed and they've evolved and all of these good things.
And this is all for women.
Yeah, it's right.
This is all for women, obviously, in this case.
Yeah.
Okay.
For women.
But also, do we know if these people have never had any work done?
Right?
Like, are we picking at just the natural state?
No.
I mean, you can go on social media and a lot of times,
they'll show you what an actress looked like 10 years ago,
what they look like now.
So, it's like you could look like anything.
You just have to have the money for it.
I mean, yeah.
What's the quote?
You're not ugly.
You're just broke.
There's truth to that.
But I do think, I will tell you,
watching a lot of these top-tier actresses,
I am taken out if there's too much going on in the face.
Well, yeah, because first of all,
it takes away your facial movement.
It makes you look super plastic.
And also, you probably couldn't do any historical roles.
Right.
Either.
So, I think they have to lean more on the conservative side
when enhancing some of the beauty because you still need to,
like, we're doing the Odyssey.
You can't, you know who got a lot of flack for this
was Millie Bobby Brown for Stranger Things.
Ah.
Yes.
In the final season, you know, you saw her as 11, as a young girl.
Because she was.
And then, as the show grew, the cast grew,
and then you see her in the final season.
And, again, I don't know what she's had done.
Allegedly, people were showing posts where she's had filler,
and it looked different.
Mm-hmm.
So.
Yeah, I mean, I can see how that would take you out of the moment there.
But also, she grew up quite a bit.
She did grow up, though, and she's allowed to do what she wants to do.
But then, yeah, you can't be surprised people say,
well, wait a minute, kind of something's a little different.
But.
Okay.
I think she still looks good.
Yeah.
Be right back.
Hello there, Stew Bear.
How are you?
You had a busy morning.
Really busy.
Five and a half hours in the air.
Five and a half hours in the air already.
Oh, my goodness.
Yeah, busy, busy, busy.
Wow.
A lot of stuff going on.
There was a lot to look at.
I don't mind busy when there's stuff to look at.
Yeah, there's a half-naked man in the ocean.
You got water main breaks.
You got.
Yeah.
Yeah, stuff falling apart, the city falling apart.
Falling apart.
You know, it was pretty nifty.
It was pretty nifty.
We were doing great.
You were there, too, for gosh sakes.
Anyways.
Just like Mater says, you were there, too.
Anyways.
Let's get out.
I appreciate that.
Let's get out to Santa Monica.
I got something to show you guys.
We're flying around.
We're actually out there for the poaching story with the lobster.
And I'm like, hey, what is going on with the Santa Monica Bridge?
What are the pier?
And then I was, I didn't know.
And I figured maybe nobody else knew either.
I know.
I hadn't seen about it.
What is going on?
Well, they're replacing the bridge.
That's what they're doing.
The pier?
The bridge?
Not so good, apparently.
And if you didn't realize it, because I had to do the research,
there is an actual bridge that takes you from Ocean Avenue out to the pier.
That bridge, 86 years old.
The actual whole Kootenay Caboodle was built in 1939.
I remember when they opened that up.
86 years old now, just in case you can't do the math.
But the bridge itself didn't withstand the seismic, modern seismic standards.
That's the big fancy word for it.
So they had to replace it.
In comes the federal government.
I don't know if you remember this, but they made this big bill for infrastructure.
Highways, bridges.
Well, that's a bridge.
Well, what do you know?
Santa Monica's council said, hey, we're going to go apply.
They got the loan.
They got the grant, actually.
$30 million is what the feds paid.
$35 million is what it's going to cost.
But it is going to be something that is going to be there for a while
and something that we need to keep that pier going.
One of the most popular spots in Santa Monica, by the way.
Also, the new bridge apparently is going to have a little bit more of an arch,
as I understand it, so the views might be a little bit better.
15-foot walkway for pedestrian traffic, so not just the cars anymore.
And then also a bike lane is going to be there as well.
It's something we need.
And you know what?
It would have been nice if it was done before, you know, the World Cup.
But the Olympics, still around the corner, we're going to do that for sure.
It's going to be done sometime in 27, so it will be ready for the 28 Olympics.
So all the tourists that are here will be able to see a better view,
just a little bit, and be able to access the pier.
And it's going to be a nifty thing.
Go Santa Monica for saving that pier.
Ladies.
Oh, I love it.
Stu, thank you.
Thank you so much.
Now you can go, and on the seventh day, Stu rested.
Yeah.
Yeah, go take a nap.
Thank you.
And, Stu, you're beautiful just the way you are.
Yeah, you don't need plastic surgery.
That's right.
No, you don't.
We're saying that only because.
Don't do that.
He's doing his neck.
That's actually one of the areas of focus for men.
Yes, I was surprised to hear that.
Me too.
We're going to tell you, men's plastic surgery trends, everybody.
It's not just for the ladies anymore.
That's right.
Mm-hmm.
Bro talk.
Get down.
Welcome back.
You know, it's not just us.
It's not just women.
More men are heading to the plastic surgeon's office
now looking for subtle, athletic-looking results.
I think subtle is key.
Subtle is everything.
From defining abs and chest muscles to tightening loose skin,
doctors say men are choosing body contouring procedures
that focus on looking fit rather than overdone.
The International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery
is tracking the rise and says surgical procedures in men are up 95%
globally since 2018.
Joining us to talk about this, Dr. Charles Galanis
from right here locally in Beverly Hills, right?
Yeah.
I'm happy to be here.
So you're saying 15% of your clientele now is men.
Yeah, and it's certainly changing.
I think that women dominated the field for many decades,
but over the last 10 years we've seen almost 100% change, literally,
in the number of patients seeking plastic surgery who are men.
So the number is changing dramatically.
95% globally since 2018.
Why now?
Why so many?
I think there's a few factors.
I think really three things.
I think as it applies to both men and women,
the wellness industry has just exploded.
Everyone is talking about wellness.
Everyone is talking about peptides and hormone replacement therapy
and all these things.
And I think with that comes the desire to look in a way
that reflects that wellness.
So you're seeing that in both men and women.
We talked about this earlier.
I see a lot of couples, too, who come in,
and it's almost as if women are coming in as the guinea pig
and then their spouse is like, okay, well, maybe I'm ready to do this.
So I operate on a lot of couples, either at the same time
or it's the woman that goes first and the man that comes second.
I also said subtle because I think for men also,
men are concerned that they're going to look crazy.
And I think the procedures and the treatments have gotten so much better
over the years that now you can actually look refreshed
and more contoured and not look like a lot has been done to you.
Yeah, and that's the trend we're seeing across all of plastic surgery
is the aesthetic that was exaggerated from years ago is sort of passé.
That's not what people are looking for.
Like the filler and the puffy lips.
Right, where you can spot it from a mile away when they walk in.
Now people are looking to look refreshed, look like themselves,
but just have a little bit more of a toned appearance to their appearance.
Okay, so but for men, where's the focus? Where does it seem to be?
So the three areas for men that we see the most common,
one is gynecomastia, which is the not-so-flattering-term man boobs
that people use where they have the larger breasts or chest.
That's one area.
The flanks or the torso is just a big area.
So men who are looking to define their abdomen,
kind of slim down that flank or sort of muffin-top area.
You want the beat out, right? Yeah.
And I think men are still interested in neck lipo.
So those in terms of body consideration.
You said neck lipo?
Yeah, so when they have a little bit of extra fat underneath the chin,
they want to sort of sharpen that jawline.
So those are areas that we're seeing continue to grow with men.
Okay, so I'm interested.
But these are mostly non-invasive procedures.
So you're talking about because you brought some of these tools here
in order to do, let's say, the midsection area.
Are you going to have to use these tools
and get in there with like a lipo thing?
Right, so I think the first thing we have to talk about
is what does non-invasive mean?
So you have to think about sort of least to most invasive.
The non-invasive things really is when you go into a med spa,
they slap a pad on, turn on the machine, and we'll see what happens.
When you start to go into the skin or do something percutaneous,
like you take a device like this here,
which is the Renuvion device by Apex.
This is a device that goes underneath the skin,
uses radiofrequency energy to change the collagen
and tighten up the tissue.
So is it non-invasive? Well, no, not necessarily.
But it's not as invasive as big surgeries
where we're using a scalpel and cutting skin out.
Is that local anesthetic, or would that be your fully under?
It can be done under local anesthetic.
Frequently, it's under general anesthesia
because you're doing it in combination with a liposuction procedure
where we use something like an ultrasound probe like this,
which goes underneath the skin,
and follow that right by liposuction,
which is this is the kind of cannula that we use
to remove fat from the body.
So they're non-invasive in the sense that
we're not doing a big operation with a big incision,
but it's still surgery.
Frequently under general anesthesia.
So what's the downtime for something like that?
It's going to be reflective of how many areas you're treating
and how extensive of work we're doing,
how many liters of fat we're taking out, so on and so forth.
But the downtime can be as little as a few days
to a week or two weeks max.
Okay. You've seen some male celebrities,
and you can tell if they've gotten work done.
Some are better than others.
What would you suggest from a plastic surgeon's standpoint
when you're talking about work that's being done on a man's face specifically?
So I think that whether you're talking about face or body,
the idea with plastic surgery is not to change your identity.
Your face ID on your phone should still work.
Isn't like face off with Nicolas Cage, right?
Right. In other words, so what you're trying to do,
frequently what we'll talk about is
we want to look at you at whatever age you're at
and see if we can get you to 10 years ago, but it was you.
Bring in a picture from before and say,
oh yeah, that's what I looked like 10 years ago.
The face still moves the same.
Exactly. And I think that's where we're looking in plastic surgery now
is not creating these unnatural aesthetics.
You, just refreshed. You, just a younger version of you.
And not focusing so much on what you look like,
but more on how you feel and your confidence.
I think it's, personally, I mean,
if your face starts to get feminized a little bit through these surgeries,
then I think that goes a little too far.
That's with the filler though, right?
That comes with filler and maybe in the wrong places.
I think, you know, I'm in Beverly Hills,
and if you walked around Beverly Hills 10 years ago, that's all you would see.
But I think if you walk around there now,
you'll notice it's not quite the same.
I think the use of filler, the way they're being used,
how extensively they're being used,
has become a little bit more judicious, a little more conservative.
I think people have come around to the realities of,
hey, we don't want to look like someone entirely bizarre.
We want to look like ourselves.
And I think people are wisening up to the long-term consequence
of disrupting your anatomy too much with things like filler or surgery.
I guess it just doesn't hurt to ask, right?
You go in, you figure out what's best for you,
how far you can go.
Listen, I tell all my patients, a consultation,
I'm not trying to sell you anything.
It's an informational session. That's all it is.
And I have people coming in, I say, listen, if you come here,
and you say, hey, I'm fine, then you're fine.
There's nothing to do.
I said, if there's something that you want to address,
let me talk you through what options exist,
what the downtime is, what the risks are, and we go from there.
Is that tool on right now?
Let's hook it up.
I'm going to need some power, I think, somewhere.
Do you take walk-ins, asking for a friend?
Here's the reason they told me to bring these.
Are you the reason they told me to bring these?
That's right.
Dr. Galanis, thank you.
Welcome back to DDLA+.
I love this story so much.
A 76-year-old sweet woman in Florida
got her Floridie vanity plate without asking.
Nancy Stretto's state-issued plate reads,
SQZA55.
She says it could be interpreted as squeeze blank.
You know what.
However, after talking it through with her son and neighbors
in her retirement home,
Nancy says she's open to giving it a test drive for a while,
saying, quote,
I can handle it if I get a few honks here and there.
Actually, being over 70, I might like a few honks.
Oh, God bless.
The comments on social media for this,
she at first was a little bit caught off guard and didn't want it,
and people said I would pay thousands of dollars for that.
Thousands, thousands.
That is so funny.
So funny.
I love it.
So she didn't know.
She got a vanity plate but didn't.
I'm confused.
Didn't she choose it?
Yeah.
Don't you choose it?
It just randomly chose.
And by the way, they made it in prison.
Wait, stop.
They made it in a prison, yes.
Well, yeah, because as they do,
they make license plates in prison.
I don't know if I knew that.
Yeah, they made it in prison.
So someone saying that whoever made that license plate has a great sense of humor.
Has a great sense of humor, had a good laugh.
That's very funny.
I just love how there's, like, a popular saying,
or stick it where the sun don't shine, and it is the sunshine state.
That's hilarious.
Very good.
That's funny.
I love them.
I love that woman.
If you love pasta, get ready for a big sale today.
I knew it.
I love Olive Garden.
Olive Garden is bringing back its never-ending pasta pass.
For $100, you get 13 weeks of unlimited pasta, soup, and breadsticks,
starting August 24th.
But you're going to have to act fast,
because only 10,000 passes are available online,
and they are only for dining in.
Wait, but is it, like, consecutive?
It has to be 13 weeks straight?
Because that's a lot of pasta.
You gain 100 pounds for 13 weeks straight.
How committed are you?
Yeah, exactly.
Those breadsticks slapped out.
That's a deal, though.
The salad.
They totally are.
Yep, for sure.
Yeah, they're good.
It's part of the discussion.
Do you live to work, or do you work to live?
Should you work on your birthday?
One lawyer weighed in.
Who the f**k takes their birthday off?
Is this, like, a Gen Z thing?
Millennials?
Who came up with this?
Work is work, dude.
Wednesday is Wednesday.
F**k.
Lock in.
Bye.
First of all, I hate anyone who says lock in.
Yeah.
Stop saying lock in.
Yeah, brah.
Also, that's a Gen Z term.
Yeah.
Lock in.
Yeah.
I clocked it.
Yeah.
I clocked that, T.
Also, there's nothing wrong with taking your birthday off.
That's right.
It's a special day for you.
Maybe you don't want attention.
I'll tell you what, guy.
Where are you?
You know, Jesus had his birthday off.
I'll tell you what, guy.
We work in news.
I'm working.
We're working Thanksgiving's.
We're working the 4th of July.
If I want to take my birthday off, I'll take it.
Hey, get out of my crib.
Get out of my birthday, okay?
This is the day that I was born.
That's right.
It's a very special day.
That's right.
I'm not asking anybody else to honor it.
Not only that.
I just want to honor it for myself.
The day before.
I might take the day after.
That's right.
In addition to my birthday.
That's right.
I'm going to make it a long weekend.
You know what?
You're lucky if I don't take the whole week off, okay?
That's right.
But guess who you saw on Thanksgiving Day?
On this set.
Yeah.
Me, okay?
Guess who was here on New Year's Day?
On this set.
New Year's Day.
In the rain.
At the Rose Parade.
We were working.
Yeah.
You want to take our birthday?
We'll take our birthday.
That's right.
Take my birthday.
I was waiting for the sound effect.
You want to take the whole month off?
The whole month.
And another thing.
If you do work your birthday, you should get a cake, a little mini office party, and maybe
get out of here a little earlier.
I like that.
And another thing.
The work hustle culture in this country is out of control.
The bomb is activated.
There's so many different problems for people.
That's why everybody's got to go see a therapist.
Boundaries.
The hair.
