A good old barbarian battle. When we were choosing teams I played as "skins"... maybe not the best choice in retrospect

Hey what's up guys, this is Oakley and I'm going to be playing as the Iceni here in an
online multiplayer battle against an opponent.
This is going to be Toler from the FG Clan and he actually said he was a viewer so that's
kind of cool.
And as you can tell we're already going to be kicking this off in a Barbarian vs Barbarian
battle.
We've played a series of battles, I may share a couple more, I just wanted to share you
mostly this one because I know I don't get to show too many Barbarian vs Barbarian battles
and let alone I don't really get to show too many where I'm fielding Iceni.
So yeah, this should be a very fun battle and my opponent definitely was a very skilled
player and he was giving me a lot of beatings in some of the battles and definitely making
me fight for any of the wins that I was able to pull out.
But anyways, as I said we played a couple of battles and this one is going to be me
as Iceni.
So I mostly wanted to show you guys this because I do field some chariots and I've never really
been able to look at these guys in action so much.
They're not going to be the traditional scythe chariots that you'd see in other types of
Eastern factions, but they are still very powerful units and that's why they're given
a lot more of them.
So 20 of them you can see right here, or at least, yeah I guess, yeah maybe it's 20, it
says 20 out of 20.
I was thinking maybe there'd be two charioteers but nope, one charioteer for each horse so
it doesn't really make much sense in terms of directing it.
But anyways, historically speaking the tribesmen in England would've used these or Great Britain
would've used these because they would be very useful for prolonged skirmish engagements,
roll into the battle, deploy off a couple fighters and then engage on foot and then
mount back on these.
It's a lot of wheeling and forming and a lot of stuff that you would've seen actually Homer
speak about in his famous works and much of the Greek works where they talked about people
fighting nobly from chariots.
That's actually what people in Great Britain were mostly using, that type of fighting technique
and it wasn't really used too much in the later ages of the Greek city-states or even
in the East, they didn't really fight similarly to this.
So very interesting and I decided I would field these guys just to see how they play
out and I'm gonna use them more like traditional chariots, keep them hidden in the back.
Anyways let's go over the builds of what's going on here.
So over on my right flank I have Chosen Swordband, Chosen Swordband and then in front of them
I have a Spearman, two veteran riders to plug that gap and then in the center more Spearband
covering another Infantry Corps of Chosen Swordband, Heroic Nobles, Painted Ones and
Druidic Nobles.
Druidic Nobles are cool, they have the ability to actually start chanting and inspiring your
men.
And then over on this left flank another veteran rider to sort of cover both of these flanks
and shoot between the two.
And then over here I have some Painted Ones, let's go ahead and look at some of these guys.
Just because as I said we don't really get to play too much as the Iceni and these guys
are just so awesome.
I really need to start playing with them more but they're a little hard to play in multiplayer.
They can only really stack up against Barbarian factions, I haven't been able to get much
luck with them against other factions but yeah they are definitely looking super cool.
So let's get some cinematic shots of my warriors moving up through here.
And then yeah I have a couple more here so these are going to be more troops rushing
up into this position and what I want to do is try and engage my opponent on the flanks
here.
Fix him with the Spearband coming up through this position and just bait him and pull back
on other points.
My Trojan Swordband are going to decide to engage on this front and my Cav is going to
be falling back.
My Chariots are going to be swinging around waiting for a good juicy target to engage
and over here I'm going to continue to push and pull.
I don't have much in the Skirmishing component so I'm going to have to try and get the best
melee engagement that I can.
Here we go both of our warriors are going to be fighting it out in the middle and my
style is going to be like you guys are used to me doing which is deploying along a huge
front and yeah I'm doing that in order to split my opponent apart.
Really fix him with just one or two of my really good units and then you know come back
and strike with Chariots or other units like Cavalry coming in and do some damage.
Now he's going to be chasing me off with Levy Freemen so he's going to get a couple free
shots on my Cavalry.
I'm going to pull out and disengage.
Over here I'm going to continue to push this front because I know I have an advantage whereas
on this side my opponent has over committed too many troops and you can see me starting
to shuffle more and more to try and help out over here.
Now I can't quite use my Chariots on these units straight away although they do have
some Javelins they can throw so I'll do some initial damage and you can see them picking
off a couple men here and there but mostly they're going to be waiting to engage and
just staying out of the fight for the moment.
His horses these are going to be Galatian Riders so skirmishing troops.
He tried to get him on a flank and get some shots into my guys but he paid dearly for
that mistake.
You can see a couple of them going right down and that's because I have some rear lines
right here to support me but now he has some troops in the back but these are just Levy
Freemen and I'm not too worried about them I can just engage them with some of my chosen
sword band back here.
Anyways I'm going to be pushing the advantage on this front and over on this position I
figure I was going to push the center and bring my Chariots back and engage on one of
those blobs once the opportunity strikes.
Let's go ahead and just put this on play.
So my Spearmen are going to come in here and fix my opponent and I'm going to come in with
another to charge at the painted ones really get in on that fight and shoot the gap chase
off his guys at least get his Celtic Slingers or no actually I'm going to turn around get
a volley wipe out a huge chunk of those Galatian Legionnaires and come in and then over here
I have committed some of my own troops over on this flank basically it's going to be his
noble horse against my painted ones painted ones are going to be going down they have
low armor against cavalry like this they really can't hold up so I'm going to be having to
reinforce this somehow anyways my Spearmen here basically ate the bulk of that assault
and they're going to lose and over here I'm going to be having some I landed some quick
strikes with my Venom Riders just doing some pretty good damage oh actually he braced perfectly
for that so I ended up doing no damage so good move on my opponent I figured I'd be
able to land basically I had two cavalry units one here and here I figured I'd be able to
take out his center weaken it before engaging with my Chosen Swordband and all that stuff
but I actually did no damage amazingly enough and I guess his guys in the back Celtic Slingers
were just continuing to pick off my Cavs so they are not getting the kills they need they're
already down to half strength but here I'm going to engage I'm going to move in with
my chariots and try and get a fight there before we go into that battle let's go ahead
and watch this so I'm starting to crumble here and he's going to get a rear charge Cavalry
we're going to try and plug this gap I am kind of winning on that flank however he's
going to get the charge so it's really going to come down to this engagement so let's go
ahead and watch this so my chariots are now going to just steamroll right through this
and this is going to be pretty perfectly timed breaking up his guys charging through here
getting a lot of decent kills on his men and then my guys can come in from the back and
just engage and do some cleanup I'm going to keep pulling these guys through the rest
of these slingers I'm tired of these guys if I had sights my guys would be getting a
lot more kills whereas now I'm just going to run over the guys and they're mostly going
to pick themselves up as opposed to having their limbs actually dismembered so that's
a little bit of the downside of or actually a pretty huge downside of the Iceni chariots
is they have more numbers but they really can't get that much killing power that you'd
expect if you get through and then my opponent is going to go ahead and commit his Galatian
Raiders right into that mix and just chase me off I'm not really stabilizing this front
I'm having a lot of issues although I was able to collapse here and that's going to
allow me to shoot the gap in certain areas of my riders and charging back over on this
flank I have a mess of troops engaged with his cav and spears so this is going to be
more evened up and I'm going to start landing these hammer and anvils and then my druidic
nobles back here are basically getting some shots off early on and they actually had the
chant ability so they're going to go ahead and just start reinforcing the morale of my
guys here I'm going to try and dislodge some of my spearmen from his own Galatian spears
free up those spears so I can come in and you know wreck these cavalry who are going
to cause a lot of issues for me over on this right flank I should be able to hold that
pretty well chosen swords against Galatian Legionnaires and I do have the numbers advantage
he's going to start piling into this with numbers but look at this it's going to be
spears against spears that should be pretty even and over here I've chosen swordman against
Levi Freeman so I should be winning that but he's going to be reinforcing so I really need
to find one location on the battlefield where I can win and I'm hoping that's going to be
over here you can see me starting to land some of these strikes sending in heroic nobles
other reinforcements I'm trying to clean this up so I can then go ahead and free up my
flanks however my opponent is doing the same thing over on this side so let's go ahead
and watch this from a little bit up close so painted ones were not able to hold that
much and now the choice of the Galatian Raiders are actually very very good again then they
can pick apart my painted ones and also they're just going to wheel about and get a lot of
kills look at these javelins just flying everywhere and they're going to get nice volleys into
the rear of my men who would otherwise maybe be able to tango with his cavalry he's going
to get a ton of free kills with those javcabs just sitting there those are very very useful
troops especially in these barbarian battles where you have these types of engagements
where it gets bogged down and you want to have you know mobile skirmishing like this
where you can put yourself in the back hit the opponent in the rear with some spears
and then even come in for a charge but if you don't need to land that hammer and anvil
you just get some spears and then go ahead and help out in another location that's probably
something I was missing out on in this battle was my cavalry I didn't have that many my
opponent ended up having more with his galatian raiders I believe and he was able to just
take my guys out my two cav who were earlier on in the center who tried to crash through
his galatian legionaries he braced at the last moment and basically just destroyed my
guys and I couldn't get the charges or the kills I needed had I not done that charge
I probably could have held the center and used those cav elsewhere to try and relieve
my other flanks and maybe even beat these guys back anyways he's going to be going for
the rear of my lines now so I'm going to position my spearmen right here just to try
and intercept him but they're going to start to be outnumbered you can see all the cav
that are just lining up in the back those are pretty fearsome troops and I can't quite
cover all this distance so I'm going to form up and try and soak up this charge as much
as I can defend my guys I can only catch one cavalry unit and here comes the other one
straight into the back of my forces I did get shield wall on so that should be helping
me out however it's buying more time for his slingers back here to do additional damage
even back here these guys are at 60 kills 20 kills so decent kills on the slingers it's
mostly going to be his cav he had a noble horse racking up a lot of the kills once he
can fix my men and I was able to break some of his cav he's going to disengage and this
is really really going on forever this is a long lasting battle I think probably because
galatians just have heavier armor in general and so these spears are just holding up forever
even though I have chosen sword band he's able to just hold that front together and
I should hopefully be able to crack these galatian legionaries but these are very very
quality troops so finally here we go we can watch a little bit of this as I'm going to
start breaking these legionaries but finally once I break them look what's going to happen
in the distance he notices his points of weakness and here come these really scary raiding horsemen
so very good use of troops by my opponent and now he can come in and clean up all my
troops despite maybe some of their early victories so you might think that barbarian
battles are all about the infantry brawl but if you could have some of these like noble
quick lightning raiding groups like these oh they're super effective I mean 24 kills
40 kills and 60 kills maybe it doesn't seem that much on the surface but I think it's
just the fact that when those kills were had like for instance he gets all those kills
in these final decisive moments where he can knock out my guys who would otherwise win
so he gets the most effective kills out of those raiding horsemen and yeah you can see
the scale of the battle is going to start tipping his way or it's been that way for
a while chosen sword band were drawn off to chase off some of his skirmishers same over
here my own spear band were destroyed and I did have some chariots who were coming back
to the battle I was hoping I could bring them over here to clean up some of these slingers
but my opponent is not going to have that he still has more cav now I'm going to be
cleaning up the center and so I have sort of destroyed his main infantry force I think
I had a greater infantry advantage than my opponent so it's going to start showing for
itself but now we're going to have an issue because he has a lot of these slingers and
a lot of forces on the outside and I don't really have any way to fight back against
that so I'm going to try and secure the inner perimeter of my lines and then form up back
into a square now he's going to start committing more and more troops so my heroic nobles I
was able to keep some more javelins I'm going to form a shield wall just to do the most
damage with the jabs and then soak up as much of that charge with my shield wall and just
try and beat these guys back and then my other troops are going to try and reform and
protect the rear keep his cavalry from getting behind so you can see he's going to start
shifting some guys around here I'm going to position them over here with the anticipation
to ward off his guys and also get some javelin shots off I'm going to start pulling back
but now look at this his cavalry are poised they're going to get ready for the charge
they're bloody but they're thirsty for more and his slingers still have more ammo so it's
going to be very very troublesome for me the only advantage I have is I'm using my opponents
troops as sort of a shield for myself you can see some of those slinger shots are going
to hit his own men and now my opponent is going to start committing his cavalry he's
going to do it in a very smart way he's going to do it in a very piecemeal way where he
just charges in with his noble horse flattens my guys and then disengages pulls my guys
out of formation exposes their rears and he can attack me with the slingers and then basically
he has more Galatian riders who are just waiting for the opportune moment and they're going
to come riding back in so I'm going to engage my guys just to try and clean up get these
infantry off my back I really want to finish these guys off because if I can do that then
basically all he's left with is slingers and cavern I hope I can kill these Galatian legionnaires
and levy Freeman and just form up in a box and weather the storm and see how that works
and it's starting to happen you can see I broke his guys his legionnaire should be crumbling
but it was a heavy price to pay for sure and now here comes my opponents guys from the
back very very useful and now I'm going to try and form up into square try and form up
the shield wall and just brace for this enemy action coming in and this is going to be down
to the last man the last I see me so we're going to form up into a giant square I'm going to try
and engage a little bit just to get some javelin shots off preemptively however this is going to
be very deadly for me I think his javelin men still have some more ammo yeah they're gonna
be trying to target my back so I probably shouldn't have gotten this far away I just tried to get some
extra volleys off against his men he's gonna seize the opportunity to charge me in the back
his slingers are getting some shots boom there goes one guy and you can see he's just sending
like just a couple horsemen to do as much damage as possible just keep them in the frame pin me
down to as much damage with his additional slingers and then he's gonna come in for seconds
after this so great use of cavalry you know skirmishing in the in the beginning and then
now just to tire out my men even more he's gonna commit these guys to the end just get them killed
but do as much damage with them as possible and you can see they're they're doing a lot against my
guys on foot where I by this point pretty tired and pretty low on armor and health and now here
comes the final charge from the flank here just as I'm finished wrapping up the other guys here
comes another charge with the rest of his men and yeah it's not pretty for the remainder of my
scenic forces this is very deadly look more of the slingers are coming into the action they're
out of ammo but they're gonna commit themselves anyways and now the horsemen in the back over
there are just gonna wait and I guess that would be the the chieftain just egging on his men and
watching the last of my meddling forces bite the dust but yeah I hope you guys enjoyed this battle
was very fun I really love these barbarian battles and I'm glad I could bring you some
combat with the Iceni I do have to try and get better at playing them I'm not quite the best as
you can see obviously but my opponent actually played very very well so if you guys enjoy that
let's go ahead and take a look a little bit at the stats just see how things played out so he
brought a pretty good book Galatia build whereby you bring a lot of infantry so 2640 hit 200 more
than me and he brought a lot of these Galatian Legionnaires who are super cost-effective I think
Freeman are okay I mean they did a lot actually here and then you can see the Galatian riders
very very good troops who I think paid for themselves and then even his noble horse did a
lot my own guys over here I brought a lot of the chosen sword band who are kind of maybe the
equivalents to the Galatian Legionnaires so a lot of heavy infantry and then I had some painted ones
who actually at the end of the day maybe weren't worth it I think they just had too low armor my
opponent had high armor troops so even though I had an initial charge bonus I really couldn't
stack up in that type of battle and plus you know light armor troops against slingers that's where
he got most of his kills then you go ahead and look at some of my spear bands and troops like
that and they did okay but not quite the best just because I had to fight some of his troops
who had more armor I believe the Galatian Legionnaires and my veteran or wide riders
were wasted same with my my other one here who got a three cheer it's doing pretty well but I
don't think quite justifying their cost anyways thanks so much hope you guys enjoyed see you in
the next battle
