This is grim.
This is like a third-world country.
This is like the decline of a civilization.
I'm Lydia Moynihan.
We had a reporter go out today,
capture what life looks like in an encampment
on the West Side, wearing their metaglasses.
They're giving us a tour of, I guess,
what New York City looks like in this day and age.
Let's take a watch as I look at this for the first time.
Wow. This is grim.
This is like a third-world country here.
I mean, this is really sad.
Like, these people are not doing well.
Like, this isn't helping them to let them live
on the street in this condition.
And then they turned on the fire hydrant to be able to wash.
And I love all these people just walking by,
like, oh, nothing to see here. Move along.
Like, nothing's strange about this.
The most expensive city in America
just accepting the fact that it's like a homeless encampment.
But, I mean, yeah, this is not helpful for anyone.
It's not safe for the people who are living there.
You know, Mamdani, I think, first did this
during the snowstorm where he decided
he wasn't going to make people go indoors.
And I want to say 15 people died.
We have heat waves.
I've got to think somebody's going to lose their life
because they're living in these conditions.
Like, the 10 cities, I'm from Portland,
and I've never seen this level here in New York City before.
And, I mean, it's like broken window policing.
Once something goes awry, things devolve very quickly.
So I would bet that, like, next week at this time,
it's a lot worse.
Kind of embarrassing. Like, a lot of tourists,
and this is what they think of New York City.
Oh, there's a massage table.
At least you can get a massage. There's something.
This makes me not even want to pay my taxes.
Like, what are we even paying for?
This is like the decline of a civilization.
This makes me want to leave New York City.
But I think we have to fight back.
Like, we don't have to live like this.
We can live in a safe, clean city.
It's possible.
We just need to push for that change.
