AI GeneratedDavid Flassing, a special trial attorney with over 20 years of experience at the IRS Office of Chief Counsel, discusses his professional journey. He highlights the collaborative and collegial culture of the organization and describes the intellectually rewarding nature of handling complex, large-scale litigation for major corporations.
My name is David Flassing.
I'm a special trial attorney in the Chicago office of Office of Chief Counsel, IRS.
I've been with counsel for a little over 20 years.
I came from private practice.
What I enjoy about the culture here at Office of Chief Counsel is that it's very collegial.
I have wonderful relationships with all my coworkers, as well as my manager.
We work together, I think, very well.
We want to help each other out.
I want to help the other guys here at counsel.
And that type of collaboration occurs both here in the Chicago office, where I am,
but also with all the counsel attorneys that I work with across the country,
including those in the technical branches and in the D.C. office.
The work that I do is litigation.
It is largely large-scale litigation, Fortune 500 companies or large private companies.
So the work is often very complex.
There are a lot of dollars at issue.
It is challenging.
It is intellectually like solving puzzles often.
And so it's very rewarding, of course, when you feel like you've solved the puzzle correctly.
The programs that I enjoy most are educational programs,
our continuing legal education programs in particular.
We offer a lot of them throughout the year,
which not only helps us meet our continuing legal obligations,
but also I very much enjoy instructing in these schools,
seeing young attorneys, meeting young attorneys, helping them develop as litigators.
