This is why Malik Thomas will be a secret weapon for the Cleveland Cavaliers this upcoming season and for their future.
We're gonna dive into the full details, the attributes, the tangibles of Malik Thomas here as a summer league. For him has been
unbelievable and he has shown out as an absolute steal in the draft.
We've talked about him in multiple videos before but I want to break down the why
Malik Thomas is going to step in and have an immediate role with the Cleveland Cavaliers in my opinion.
Today here at Cavs Digesting. Thank you so much for joining me. I hope everyone's having a good week and
now a weekend. I hope everyone has a good weekend. If you're in the area of the fires or whatever, please be safe.
But nonetheless, we're gonna dive into something that I saw according to Terry Pluto
that's gonna happen with the Cleveland Cavaliers. I'm gonna talk about his stats, talk about the comparison of him to other
possible guards and young players for the Cavs.
So report. This is from WeAreCavsNation on X. The Cavs believe Malik Thomas can help them immediately
per at Terry Pluto.
That's that.
Straight up, straight forward. Now, you know. So now that you have seen that it's time to break down the why.
We're gonna talk about that all today. So of course Malik Thomas is a taller guard.
He's 6'5", 6'6", I believe and that is pretty pretty tall for a guard. He played one year in college.
He also played in, I think, Overtime Elite in that little league that they have
in high school and then
he came to Arizona or Arkansas, excuse me.
He went to Arkansas in the SEC and it brought Arkansas an SEC title in his very first and only season in
college basketball for the Razorbacks.
So that's the first thing. Proving winner, able to come in and be an immediate
immediate X-factor at the collegiate level. Of course, they had a decent run in March Mads.
I believe they lost in the Elite 8 or Sweet 16, one of the two Elite 8 or Sweet 16.
So again, went on a decent run. Arkansas was kind of hit or miss, but they won the SEC title.

It also helps out the channel a ton. But now let's continue talking about my boy Malik Thomas.
Let's look at his summer league performances because summer league is something that people overlook a lot, but let me tell you something.
Don't let this tread lightly.
Look at this.
This is like 25 points on 50% shooting and it got better like every game.
20 points, but he didn't shoot the best. 30 points, shot well. 35 points, shot great.
24 points, didn't shoot the best.
But he has that pure scoring pedigree that the Cleveland Cavaliers have been missing out of a backup guard.
And I specifically specify the backup guard spot because I do see a lot of potential in guys like Tyrese Proctor as well.
But the Cavs backup guard spots were held by Sam Merrill at the shooting guard,
sometimes Keon Ellis, and of course Dennis Schroeder at the one.
That's something to keep in mind as I continue this video because I think that Malik Thomas has every reason to take
minutes from all of those guys. And I'm being serious. Of course, I love Merrill when he comes in and hits a bunch of threes.
I loved him in what? Game 7 against the Pistons where he went nuclear to help the Cavs make the Easter Conference Finals.
I do love when Merrill is on. I do. I think he hustles. I think he plays well.
But why would we not give the backup point guard to Malik Thomas?
Especially when you compare it to the Cavs current backup point guard in which we've also received a lot of reports from that the Cavs
are interested in trading
Dennis Schroeder. So I'm talking about, of course.
Look at what Schroeder did in the playoffs. Against Toronto, he wasn't bad. Against Detroit, he was eh. Against New York, he was abysmal.
It was egregious how many times he came into the game just to turn over the ball in the playoffs or
just not and he can't hit a three really.
Let's be real.
Undersized point guards who can't hit shots are not really that valuable. I didn't dislike Schroeder in the regular season at all.
I really liked the way he played for Cleveland. I think he came in, could get a couple points, could get a couple assists.
I think he looked good.
But what matters the most for the Cavs is winning playoff series because we know that they're going to be a good regular season team.
It's been proven. They battled injuries all year long. They managed to make the Easter Conference Finals still.
They had a decent trade deadline that improved them a little bit.
Come playoff time, some of the Cavs' new additions, Schroeder, Keon Ellis,
even some of the younger guys with great regular seasons, Tyson, Tomlin, a lot of these guys either weren't getting minutes for whatever reason,
even if it's not the player's fault, or they were invisible such as Schroeder against the Knicks.
In fact, I actually think Schroeder was our worst player in that series. I didn't see anything of value at all
from him in the slightest actually
to where I was like, dang, like why would we not have...
Why would Schroeder not
be replaced by Malik Thomas immediately when this guy comes in to not do much?
Kind of a nothing burger in the playoffs. As I said, Toronto series, I understand. I think he was pretty decent then.
But a 49.7 true shooting percentage in the playoffs this season as well as 5.5 points
barely two assists while also getting practically two turnovers, that turnover ratio is not great.
It's the same. His assist-to-turnover ratio was literally the same in the playoffs.
That's not good. And as I showed you, with Malik Thomas on the other hand,
he's a scoring... like he is a just generational score.
And that's something that the Cleveland Cavaliers could use off their bench immediately, a point guard that can come in the game.
Like you're telling me... I'm gonna show you these stats again. You're telling me you don't want this guy to come in off the bench?
What are you guys gonna say this time? It's just Summer League? I get it. It's just Summer League.
But this is a Summer League superstar. This is the best player in the Summer League.
I know Caleb Wilson was good, the guy from UNC.
Devontz is a great rookie. But Malik Thomas' scoring is levels above Summer League players that are barely like
main roster worthy are two-way guys and G League players, right? That's kind of what the Summer League is.
They're rookies or they're G League guys or two-way guys, right? Or maybe they're not even any of that.
That's who Malik Thomas is outperforming.
So don't consider this guy a two-way player. You're not gonna consider this guy a
G League player because we saw what Tyrese Proctor did in the G League. He was levels above everyone there, too.
Malik Thomas also has size to where at the guard spot, even if he is not like an elite defender,
he's actually a decent defender in my opinion and
he has the size to make up for it. Schroeder doesn't. You know what I'm saying?
Harden, not a good defender. Lazy on defense. Donovan Mitchell, undersized at his position. Malik Thomas fills in
something that a lot of the top teams in the NBA have. A
big guard that can do it all. Of course, it's a saccharine pick. We have to see him play at the main level yet.
But again,
there's no reason based on what we've seen so far that he doesn't come in. We saw the Terry Poole report. The Cavs believe in
Malik Thomas. Malik Thomas said it himself that he was very, very
disappointed that he fell this late.
When a lot of people saw him as a first-round talent. He said he took that personally and he's gonna prove himself and I think
he is already. I think he's only gonna continue to do that. Again, let's continue talking about the why.
So the first options. Schroeder, bad contract, terrible in the playoffs after the Toronto series.
Well, definitely terrible against the Knicks. So you're terrible against the best team in the Eastern Conference. Can't do that.
You need to have guys that are ready to perform. Sam Merrill is not really a point guard. He plays the two.
He shoots. He's not gonna be that pure three-level scoring threat like Malik Thomas. Tyrese Proctor hasn't gotten a chance yet. Probably could play.
Size. Some of the top teams in the NBA. Shea Gillis Alexander is a six-foot six point guard.
What, Derek Harper or Dylan Harper from the Spurs was a rookie. Came in six-man of the year.
Super value. Devon Vassell, another 6'6", pure scoring threat on the Spurs, right?
You have to look at the rest of the NBA. Malik Thomas matches up against what the current
best game of the NBA is. Jalen Brunson might not be the biggest point guard, but he plays big. He attacks consistently.
He's kind of a stockier build. Malik Thomas can be good against Jalen Brunson, to be honest.
I think he just fills in a big
need for what guys in the NBA are supposed to do.
Especially because we've never seen a guard for the Cavs. Like we saw Lonzo. Lonzo is what we wanted.
We wanted a pure defensive guy that can pass, that can drive, and that can shoot. Like Lonzo,
pre-injury, would have been perfect for the Cleveland Cavaliers. Unfortunately, injuries kind of derailed his career.
Malik Thomas is young and healthy. He's young, hungry, and healthy.
So that is this video on why I think Malik Thomas is
going to be an immediately secret weapon for the Cleveland Cavaliers.
But I talked about price picks and some of, you know, some cool things happening. Tomorrow is the World Cup Championship.
So I have some picks for you all. Lionel Messi,
probably gonna score in what could be his final World Cup of all time.
Enzo Fernandez, one of the best players in this entire World Cup.
I think he is going to have at least one shot on target.
I think he's gonna go more than 0.5. And of course, Damian Yamal for Spain. Been unbelievable.
I think he's also gonna have another shot on target. So another cool thing about price picks on Tuesday,
they have their Taco Tuesday promotion where you get served
big discounts and projections all Tuesday long. And Friday, you get a 40% higher payout boost with their Flex Friday promotion.
