In a historic and deeply inspiring moment for the America First movement, the political landscape of our nation has just been forever changed. For years, patriotic, hardworking Americans have watched patiently as outdated Senate rules and establishment roadblocks stood in the way of securing our future. But today, the tide has finally turned.
Legendary historian and classicist Victor Davis Hanson beautifully breaks down the courageous stand taken by Vice President JD Vance, who reminded the Republican establishment of their sacred duty to the forgotten men and women of this country. Working hand-in-hand with President Donald Trump—our 45th and 47th President—and the unwavering Speaker Mike Johnson, they have forged a brilliant path to pass vital election integrity laws.
Facing this overwhelming, unified wave of purpose and patriotism, Senate Majority Leader John Thune realized that the will of the people simply cannot be stopped and was forced to step aside. This isn't just a political triumph; it is a heartwarming reminder that when courageous leaders stand firm for what is right, the American dream remains safe, secure, and brighter than ever before.

The video discusses the urgent push for the SAVE Act to ensure election integrity through voter ID and proof of citizenship. It criticizes Senate leadership and the Democratic Party's ideological shift, while analyzing modern leftism as a top-down movement. The narrative champions the \"America First\" agenda, focusing on border security, the removal of legislative roadblocks, and national prosperity.
This is a struggle for the survival of our nation, and this will be our last chance to save it.
This election will determine whether we're a free nation or whether we have only the illusion of democracy.
Take a look here, favorite photo ID to vote, 85% of white people favorite, 82% of Latino, 76% of black Americans favorite.
So the bottom line is this, voter ID is not controversial in this country. A photo ID to vote is not controversial in this country.
It is not controversial by party and it is not controversial by race.
The vast majority of Americans agree with Nicki Minaj that in fact you should have a photo ID to be able to vote.
Can I go back in history just a minute to offer a warning?
In 1992, George H.W. Bush, the elder Bush, was up for re-election.
George H.W. Bush came into campaign cycle 1992 as high as 90% approval rating.
What happened? They didn't take the Clinton-Gore campaign seriously and they did not take the third party candidacy of Ross Perot seriously.
Meanwhile, the Clinton-Gore-George Stephanopoulos team was saying, it's the economy stupid.
Bush's popularity went from 90% to 40% that election year and he would lose that election partly because they created this meme, it's the economy stupid, and turned a recovering economy into the Great Depression.
I hope that doesn't sound too familiar, but that's exactly what is happening now.
Donald Trump is overseas with a lot of successes and the same Democrats are saying it's affordability stupid.
You went into the place and said, is Sally so-and-so working here today?
You went in and said, yeah, have her come see me.
And you went to one of the offices and she came in and you said, I hear you're having a little bit difficult.
And she said, well, I have some cancer issues.
And see, I'm getting emotional.
You keep saying the champ, you can't watch the champ without crying.
Well, I can't go through this story without crying.
And you said, I'll take care of it.
Let me take care of the whatever it's going to cost.
You know, I want to take care of you.
You're valuable to me.
Whatever that is.
I mean, that's who you are.
So I know you to be.

Now, let us get straight to the heart of things.
We need to stop allowing the Democrats and the minority to run the Senate to destroy this country.
And that's why I reluctantly have called to end the filibuster.
The Senate is broken.
There's not much left the filibuster anyway.
A lot of my Republican colleagues just refuse to vote to give Democrats the tool that they're going to take anyway.
That's the reality of the situation.
When they have the power, they'll end the filibuster.
They'll complete their goal of turning America into one party nation.
Puerto Rico, D.C. into states.
This packed Supreme Court.
Nationalize their elections.
So that's the path we're on.
I want to prevent that by passing good legislation to secure our election.
That means we have to end the filibuster.
We don't have the votes right now in the Republican conference to do that, though.
Here is John Thune on the SAVE Act.
Listen to this.
We don't have the votes to get rid of the filibuster.
We did.
We called it up on the floor.
Can we stop?
You don't have the votes for the filibuster.
Hmm.
John, whose fault is that?
Could that be, oh, I don't know, your fault?
Could it be?
Isn't that your job to get everybody?
You can't just.
I mean, you can get everything else done.
You can get things that nobody in America is wanting, except for you stooges.
You can get all of that done.
But this one, we just don't have the votes.
We don't.
But listen, he's trying really hard.
This, your blood will boil.
Listen to the rest of it.
We don't have the votes to get rid of the filibuster.
We did.
We called it up on the floor.
March, I think, 17th.
We were on it for several weeks and had a very spirited debate.
In fact, I actually, I think with the exception of maybe a couple of Republican senators,
made more speeches on the floor in support of the SAVE Act than almost any other senator.
And we had some votes on it.
And we voted on the narrow issue, which is the most popular one, of voter ID.
And we put the Democrats on the record.
Every single Democrat voted against it.
We added, and one of the other elements, also popular, was whether or not biological boys ought to play in girls' sports.
We had that vote, and every Democrat voted against that as well.
So we've taken what I think are probably the two issues, in my view, that have the broadest public support,
and put the Democrats on record, and every single one of them voted against it.
So we look for opportunities to get other votes.
There was a vote on the budget resolution, an amendment that Senator Kennedy offered,
that didn't even get 50 votes on the floor.
And so we're continuing to look for opportunities to advance that legislation.
Obviously, it's something that I support, I think we all support.
There's not enough SSRIs for me to listen to any more of that.
There's just not.
I could go to the SSRI factory, and there wouldn't be enough to bring my mood up after John Thune speaks about that.
First of all, you got them on the record?
Oh, I'm so glad you got them on the record.
Woo! Now we can run campaign ads.
You know what that reminds me of?
It reminds me of, I hate to bring this name up.
Hang on, if you have any mood elevators, just take them, because I'm going to bring up Orrin Hatch.
Orrin Hatch told me at one point, you know what, I don't have to worry about all of these Tea Partiers.
He's talking to me.
Orrin, you realize I'm kind of a Tea Partier kind of guy, right?
Yeah, I don't have to worry about all these Tea Partiers.
They're going to love me.
All I'm going to do is, I'm going to take a vote, I'm going to suggest we vote on a flag-burning amendment.
And then they'll all come running back.
Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, I hate you so much.
No, no, this is the same kind of thing.
Listen to what he's saying.
We got them on the record.
And we also talked to him about biological sports.
We're not talking about biological males in sports.
We're not talking about that.
We're talking about the Save America Act.
It's different.
Men in men's sports, that's a really good thing, really, really important.
This one's called the Save America Act.
You know what it does?
It saves America.
And you couldn't find a way to get that one done.
You couldn't.
I just couldn't muster it.
It's not that I don't want to pass it.
I just don't know how.
You are, I'm sorry, but I'm just not mature enough.
And I do not have the vocabulary to say anything else but you're a giant wiener.
And that's as good as it can get for me.
Sorry.
Glad you're on the record there, John.
We know who you are.
No one should ever vote for this guy ever again.
No one should ever vote for him ever again.
And you know what?
I mean, China's going to be our boss anyway, AI.
I mean, maybe I can hack into the system and I can get a list of all of the people
that are voting for John Thune and I can go visit them at their house.
I'm like, what the hell are you thinking?
You want to be a wiener too?
No, don't.
Don't vote for him.
Long, long memory.
This guy is worthless.
Save America.
80%, including the Democrats, are for this.
And you know what?
I couldn't get anybody to vote for him.
I couldn't do it.
I don't know what happened there.
It's like when you asked me to help get you into Iran after the regime falls.
And I'm like, yeah, yeah, yeah.
I'm all over that.
Are you admitting something here?
I think you're admitting something you shouldn't be admitting.
I sent you an email.
I sent a strongly worded email.
Yeah.
Okay, good.
John, here's how you get it done.
This one is from the Texas Speaker of the House, Cameron Sexton.
And it's going to the leadership, Karen Camper in Nashville, Tennessee.
Dear Leader Camper, due to the actions taken by members of the Democratic caucus
during the second extraordinary session of the 114th General Assembly
aimed at disrupting the Democratic and legislative processes
and creating disorder on the House floor, including but not limited to,
remember seeing the footage of this,
where everybody was causing all kinds of problems, the Democrats were,
interlocking arms in the well of the House,
blocking aisles on the House floor,
instigating and encouraging disruptions of the legislative process
in coordination with paid protesters and attendees in the gallery,
including the distribution of earplugs to members of your own caucus,
the use of prohibited props and noisemakers on the House floor,
demonstrating the lack of respect towards fellow members
seeking recognition to speak on legislation,
and flagrant disregard for the permanent rules of the order of the House,
members of the Democratic caucus will receive individual letters
removing them from all standing committees and subcommittees of the House
except where membership is required pursuant to Rule 65 of the House Rules.
See ya! Actually, he wrote sincerely.
Cameron Sexton.
That's the way a man handles things.
Okay? I don't know about you, John,
but somebody has a wiener, somebody doesn't.
Which one? I don't know.
That's the way you handle it.
The Democratic Party, after their loss, ran a post-mortem, an autopsy.
What went wrong?
And they found out that their message, open borders, illegal immigration,
the trans issue, were 30, 70 issues, and they were on the 30 side.
So what did they do?
Democrats said, everybody who's going to run, you have to reboot yourself.
So we saw Pete Buttigieg.
All of a sudden, he's turned up now with a beard,
he wears a tractor cap, and he has a flannel shirt.
They got a guy, Graham Platner,
now he's supposed to represent the white working class.
And he said that the white rural Americans are stupid.
And then it turned out he had a tattoo.
That was an even greater tattoo.
He's a man of the people.
But unfortunately, it was a Totenkopf tattoo.
Deathshead, Waffen SS, pretty bad.
They were often assigned to extermination camps to facilitate the Holocaust.
The white working class is not looking for somebody that looks like them.
Look at Donald Trump, he's a Manhattan billionaire.
They're losing the working class, and they will not change their ideology.
Instead, they want to change their appearance.
It's not going to work.
My friends, let me tell you straight from the heart
what just unfolded these last few days in our nation's capital.
It is the kind of moment that makes an old man like me
sit up straight in his chair and feel a bright spark of hope for the man,
the country I have loved all my life.
The news out there says it perfectly.
Victor Davis Hanson explains how Senate leader John Thune
was forced to step aside as President Donald Trump,
and Speaker Mike Johnson pushed past the old Senate roadblocks
to protect our elections.
And brother, that spirit is right on the money.
The old world Senate rules that have blocked the people's will for too long
are finally cracking under the unstoppable force of President Trump
and his America First team.
Just this past week, Speaker Mike Johnson and the House stood tall.
They passed a very important rule called the Save America Act.
They tucked it right inside a big must-pass security bill.
This bill simply says that to register to vote
or cast a ballot in our federal elections,
you need to prove you are a United States citizen.
You can use a passport, a birth certificate, or a real photo ID.
It is just plain common sense.
It is what every honest American already knows deep down in their bones.
Only citizens should decide who leads our home.
President Trump has been pounding the table on this.
He is looking at real facts that show our system needs fixing.
He is not playing games.
He is fighting to protect the sacred voting rights
that generations of Americans worked so hard to build.
Now, here is where the story gets really powerful.
Vice President J.D. Vance did not use fuzzy words.
He spoke clear as a bell.
He dropped the truth on the old Washington crowd,
telling Senate Republicans it is time to cut the silly games
and get things done for the American people.
Speaker Mike Johnson kept the pressure hot from the House side.
He made sure election safety could not be separated
from the bills that had to pass.
That teamwork left Senate Majority Leader John Thune in a very tough spot.
The pressure from President Trump, from the loyal voters,
and from everyday folks calling their offices was just too much.
John Thune found himself cornered by the pure, honest momentum
of putting America first.
He had to bow out of standing in the way,
stepping back so the good work could move forward.
That is not some wild, tall tale.
That is exactly what happens when real, brave leadership
meets the loud and clear will of the people.
A very smart scholar named Victor Davis Hanson
has been laying it out plain as day for all of us.
He has been watching this massive showdown inside the Republican Party.
He sees something historic happening right now in July of 2026.
The old Senate traditions, like the filibuster,
used to protect careful talk.
But lately, they turned into a giant shield
that stops anything from getting done.
Mr. Hanson knows his history.
He has seen how rules get changed or bypassed
when the stakes are this high.
And right now, the stakes could not be higher.
President Trump is not asking for special favors.
He is demanding that we secure our elections
so every single vote from a real American counts
and no outsider sneaks in to water down our voice.
I fully support nuking the filibuster
to make sure that the SAVE Act,
the most consequential piece of legislation
that President Trump has said over and over again,
Julia, I need you to go over to the Senate
so we can get this through and signed onto my desk.
I support nuking the filibuster.
We're doing that in the SAVE America Act
as one of our five.
That's voter ID.
We want voter ID.
We want proof of citizenship.
We want no transgender mutilization of your children.
We don't want transgender mutilation.
That's number three.
We want no men in women's sports.
That's number four.
And we don't want to have male-in voting.
Where the votes go, where the hell do they come from?
So we're going to do that.
It's five things.
They're all 99%.
They say, oh, that's an 80% issue, like voter ID.
No, I think it's a 99.
I think the Democrats have it at 87%.
The leadership doesn't want it.
Why don't you want voter ID?
There's only one reason.
Ready?
Because you want to cheat.
OK?
They blame it on all sorts of things.
They came up.
They said it's racist.
They came up with things that you have to say
their imagination is great.
No, we're not going to let them cheat like they did
in a certain election that we won't talk about.
But that election was — and they cheat now.
Look, we're not going to let it happen.
So we're going to go get the Save America Act.
Not the Save Act.
Nobody knew what the Save Act meant.
The Save Act.
What?
Save what?
Save America Act.
And it's — we're going to do everything we can.
It's hard to believe.
It's hard to believe we're having a hard time.
I think anybody that votes against it shouldn't
be allowed to run for office.
You want to know the truth.
But we're working.
Dean Cain, the actor, filmmaker, host of that incredible podcast,
The Homeland.
Dean, always good to see you.
Welcome back.
It's a pleasure, sir.
What a nice opening there.
There was a lot going on, my friend.
Well, I want you to react to it because people are online today
having fun with Olive Garden, putting out a statement.
They actually put out a statement.
They said, if you buy the never-ending pasta pass,
it's only for the pass holder, Dean.
You can't transfer it to someone.
You've got to show ID, not voter ID, but photo ID.
So the account Libs of TikTok joked, quote,
literally shaking right now.
Olive Garden is basically banning black people and married women
from using pasta passes.
And you know what?
That's the ridiculous argument Democrats make, Dean.
100 percent.
It makes no sense at all.
If Olive Garden's all-day pasta is more secure than our elections,
we've got a problem.
There's no doubt about it.
And I think it's great.
It changes the Olive Garden law.
Let's go.
But I mean, when 80 percent or plus of American citizens voting
eight want voter ID, there's a reason that it should be passed.
I mean, that's what we have.
A representative government is supposed to represent our views.
It's overwhelmingly an 80-20 issue.
There's no question about it.
And the president's 100 percent right.
It's only to cheat.
And that's what they want it for.
And thank you for showing the main Senate race.
If Chris Farley was doing a Saturday Night Live skit,
that's who we'd play.
And just the same.
That was shocking.
You know, you could cast the movie about this platinum race.
What do you make of Ashley with the really big Adam's apple saying,
I'm a songwriter, a very deep voice,
and these are the kind of candidates that the president of the United States
last night said, they're so pathetic, you need to cheat to make sure they can win.
Well, I don't think Ashley is going to win either way.
But I mean, that is a wow.
That's quite an example.
But that really is Chris Farley playing a Saturday Night Live gig.
I mean, that's it.
Even the laugh and the answers.
I mean, literally, that's the funniest SNL skit I've seen in years right there.
But it's the real thing, so it's terrifying.
What are they doing?
Yes.
You know, it's not supposed to be comedy.
But it is comedy sometimes, the mainstream media.
So CNN and NBC News last night would not take the president's speech live
on their main broadcast channels.
Neither did ABC News.
But what I found particularly amazing is they broke in later,
after the president spoke, to claim he was lying.
Watch.
We know he has made a series and slew of false claims about that election that he lost.
But the president did spend quite a significant time talking about the 2020 election.
Again, what the president presented tonight, it's complex.
Our team is digging through these documents that the White House says they're now declassifying
and making available to the American people.
We're reading through it to fact-check and understand more of what the president is presenting.
So how do you fact-check something before letting your viewers hear what was said?
That's called groupthink, my friend.
That is straight out of George Orwell.
It's ridiculous.
They are not our fact-checkers.
It's like when they wanted to have that entire group, the disinformation board.
It's frightening.
It's scary.
It shouldn't be the case.
We, you know, thank God for Elon Musk and buying X and putting free speech out there
so we can see these things ourselves and make the decisions.
If ABC and NBC and CBS don't, or whoever, ABC and CNN,
if they don't want to carry the president's speech, we'll find it elsewhere
and their ratings will continue to plummet.
That's right.
And we had it right here on Newsmax.
Bottom line, here's Joe Biden, April of 2021, talking about Russia interfering in 2020.
Listen.
Elections are sacred.
They're sovereign undertakings.
They're an expression of the will of the American people.
And we cannot allow a foreign power to interfere in our democratic process with impunity.
Today, I've approved several steps, including expulsion of several Russian officials
as a consequence of their actions.
I've also signed an executive order authorizing new measures,
including sanctions to address specific harmful actions that Russia has taken against U.S. interests.
People forget this. Joe Biden set.
Yeah, sleepy Joe.
But he sanctioned Russia, Dean, in early 2021 over election interference in 2020.
At the same time, President Trump is showing us intelligence from the same time period where China allegedly interfered.
And Joe Biden said nothing.
No, nothing at all.
And nobody wants to talk about it because it doesn't serve their interests.
It doesn't alleviate their TDS.
I watch people online screaming about how it was full of baloney and lies, lies, lies,
before they could have even possibly processed anything.
It's there. There is.
TDS is a real thing.
And it's scary.
And they know, you know, I don't need newsmakers to go or news stations to go through and comb through and figure out what's truth for me
before I hear what the president of the United States has to say.
And I don't think any of us want it done that way.
So shame on them.
One hundred percent. And pay attention to what's important.
But it's TDS. One hundred percent.
They just don't want to hear from President Trump.
Again, if he cured cancer tomorrow, they'd be mad that he put the cancer doctors out of work.
Unreal. Dean Cain, always appreciate your insights.
Thanks, pal.
Thanks, sir.
They're looking at the 2024 election and everybody knows that they lost because Kamala Harris was a poor candidate.
Joe Biden was basically noncompos mentis.
More importantly, that she was so far left when she was on record that stopping all fracking, no deportations,
defund the police, vocal support for the George Floyd, often violent riots, that she had no credibility and she tried to back away from.
So what I'm getting at is in a autopsy, most people thought they would look at this and say the Democratic Party is out of touch
and they need to nominate a Josh Shapiro or Andy Bashar or a Bill Clinton like figure and go back to bread and butter economic issues,
strong defense, strong borders.
1996 Democratic platform, if you read it, it's to the right of Donald Trump on immigration and on crime.
But they didn't. Instead, it's the AOC, Jasmine Crockett, Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders.
And then we have people like Mamdami, this Fatah who's running for mayor in Minneapolis, Gavin Newsom and Karen Bass here in California.
So to the delight of the conservatives, they are going further and further left and doubling down and getting angrier and angrier.
They have no power in the House. They have no power in the Senate. They have no power in the White House.
They have no power in the Supreme Court. They have no power in referenda because they're, whether it's transgenderism or the defense budget,
they're 30-70 on the wrong side of the issues.
And so they, you know, it's performance art. And some of it works. I mean, Donald Trump is a fascist, fascist, fascist.
Hykum Jeffrey poses with a baseball bat. They publish these smutty videos where congressmen and senators say the F word, the S word.
And it's kind of circus-like. Jasmine Crockett every day releases a video that old white men have ruined the country.
And yet when you look at popularity of the Democratic Party, it's at an all-time low.
Whether that translates into a sure Trump victory, I don't know.
But historically in the midterms, every incumbent loses anywhere from 10 to 40 seats.
And the only two times that has not happened is with Bush after 9-11, he picked up two.
And then Roosevelt in 36 picked up seats. He lost them again in 38.
But there are people talking that the Republicans might pick up seats and might pick up a Senate seat or two.
That would be an amazing accomplishment if that happens.
Here to help us make sense of this moment is Hoover Institution Senior Fellow Victor Davis Hanson.
Victor, it's great to see you. It's been far too long.
Let's start, if we might, with the Vice President and move then to the Secretary of State.
The Vice President looks back on history.
He looks to the Industrial Revolution as a moment of chaos that led to not only the rise of socialism but the rise of fascism.
Do you see us at a similar moment now in history?
I do, but I think there's a big difference.
This is primarily a top-down. We're not seeing people that are very poor.
When you see stores broken into or swarming, it's high-end, you know, sneakers, jewelry stores.
Bread and rice and bean.
And we're not seeing people who were the victims of globalization in middle America, red state America, you know.
They went into the Tea Party, which was peaceful, or the Trump mega-movement.
They didn't get violent.
This is a top-down.
It's a lot of affluent, urban people who feel that their college education should have allowed them an income that was comparable with very wealthy people.
And they feel let down.
They have student loans.
But they're not abject poor.
And then we have a lot of recent immigrants, first and second generation, that are socialist.
Not that they're all violent, but they feel that they came to the United States and they were not assimilated.
There was no effort so they can sort of romanticize their former country or demand changes in this new country.
And the hosts never ask anything of them.
No civic education, etc.
But it's very different.
And then it's very insidious, Will, because the left keeps saying it's right-wing.
Janet Napolitano, when she was Homeland Security, she said, the biggest threat is returning veterans.
It wasn't.
And Mark Milley got before Congress and said, we're worried about white supremacists in the Pentagon.
They did an exhaustive study.
They found nothing.
And Joe Biden said the greatest threat was white supremacists.
It wasn't.
But it's very insidious because Antifa and BLM and the communists and all of these people have this utopian vision.
We just want equality.
We just want fairness.
And so Antifa, they get a pass from people.
And they're now adjacent to the socialist wing of the Democratic Party, which explains why none of the people on the left or the Democratic Party are speaking out against them.
Victor, that takes us then to Marco Rubio and to an extent Stephen Miller and what they had to say today.
You make an interesting and accurate distinction between what happened in the early 19th century and today.
This is not a revolt of the working class.
This is a revolt of the college educated, but driven by in the diagnosis of secretary of state resentment.
I thought he put it really well when he said it's a it's a violence perpetrated by those who can't against those who can.
And that psychological assessment, I do think, is really there at the end of all of not just this violent, but this rise of leftism.
It is.
It's confined so far largely to urban areas and largely by people with some education.
And they feel that their political science degree or their studies degree or sociology or psychology and their glib and they're well-spoken.
And they think, well, I have a job as an editor at a prestigious book or I'm working for an NGO or I work for Greenpeace.
And yet I don't get paid what a corporate lawyer or a tech CEO is.
And I'm just as smart as they are.
I can't buy a house.
I can't.
I have a prolonged adolescence because I can't marry and have children.
It's the system that did this to me.
And so it's it's it's kind of they live in La La Land, but they're not doesn't mean they're not dangerous.
And that doesn't mean they've infiltrated into the major political party, which they have.
And the Democratic Socialists, which is it's kind of the front for Antifa BLM.
It's the proper label or the acceptable face of a very violent movement.
And I don't think we should underestimate what some of the people, the Democratic Socialists are saying.
If you go to their Web site, I mean, it's full of Marx, this and Cuba, Cuba, that.
No, I think we've seen, as you point out, not just they're they're taking center stage when it comes to political parties,
but the violence is pointed out by everyone here today across the globe.
And here at home, we can point easily to a great a great emblem of that is the celebration of Luigi Mangione.
Victor Davis Hansen, it's great to have you here on the show.
Thank you so much, Victor.
Thank you for having me.

Let me paint a picture for you, just like I do when I'm talking to my own grandkids out on the front porch.
Imagine a hardworking family living in a quiet, friendly, small town.
The dad works hard building houses all day.
The mom teaches the neighborhood kids at the local school.
And the children play baseball in the yard right after they finish their homework.
They are good, honest people.
They pay their taxes.
They proudly fly our beautiful American flag by the front door.
And they just want their country to feel like the safe, fair place they grew up believing in.
But then they start hearing stories.
They hear about people who are not even citizens somehow ending up on the voting lists.
When that happens, their trust in the system starts to wobble just a little bit.
It makes them feel like their own hard-earned voice might not matter as much.
President Trump sees that hurt in their hearts.
He does not just shrug his shoulders and say, well, that is just the way it goes.
No, he rolls up his sleeves and he says, we are going to fix this together.
That is the kind of brave, caring leadership that lights a warm, bright fire of hope across our whole country.
And what about this thing they call the filibuster?
Well, for years, it has been used like a giant brick wall blocking the road.
In the Senate, you usually need 60 votes out of 100 to pass anything important.
On paper, it sounds like a fair idea.
It is supposed to make sure everybody talks things out like good neighbors.
But in real life, it has turned into a heavy tool to stop good things from happening when our country needs action.
Right?
In a way, think about it.
Our borders, our energy, our elections.
These are not small things.
They are the strong foundation of our national home.
Years ago, others changed the rules when I helped them.
Now, President Trump is saying, if these old rules are blocking what is best for America, then we need to change the rules.
It is not about him wanting power just to be powerful.
It is about him keeping his promises to the good people who voted to send him back to the White House.
He wants to deliver real, lasting results for that family on the porch.
I've lived a long time, my friends.
I have watched many presidents come and go.
I have seen times when Washington gets stuck.
And that makes folks so frustrated, they just want to give up on voting altogether.
But this time, it feels wonderfully different.
President Trump's great strength is that he simply does not back down.
He does not care about being popular at fancy Washington dinner parties.
He only cares about winning for you and me.
When he works hand-in-hand with Speaker Johnson and Vice President Vance to gently but firmly move past that brick wall in the Senate, it is not messy.
It is a smart, careful plan.
It is a leader building our country back up, piece by piece.
Even when the old guard tries to slow him down, he is keeping his word.
And that is a beautiful thing to see.
Congress to pass the Save America Act requiring proof of citizenship to register to vote and an ID to cast a ballot.
Chief Congressional Correspondent Chad Pergram reports live from Capitol Hill.
Hi, Chad.
Martha, good afternoon.
Few policy issues have consumed the president more than trying to compel Congress to pass the Save America Act.
The House recently Velcroed the plan to a State Department funding bill, but the Senate may strip it out.
This landmark bill requires that all voters must show photo, voter ID.
How simple is that?
I ask you to pick up your phone tomorrow, call your representatives in the House and Senate and demand that they pass the Save America Act without delay.
In fact, the Senate may not even consider the House funding bill at all.
The Senate does not appear ready to address any money bills, let alone that one.
In addition, it's about the math.
The Senate cannot crack a filibuster to fully debate the Save America Act.
If I thought there was a path to getting a positive result or a positive outcome, I'd be willing to do just about anything,
because I think we are all here in favor of the Save America Act.
And it's also very unlikely that the Senate Republicans are going to vote to get rid of the legislative filibuster.
Now, the president demanded an end to the filibuster, but even that lacks the votes.
Other administration officials are sympathetic to Thune's plight.
Real ID does not prove citizenship and does not give you the right to vote.
You must be a U.S. citizen and you must be eligible to vote.
Before and after the election, we will scrub all election records looking for illegal aliens
and those who are ineligible to vote, including those that somehow voted, yet they were deceased.
If you're illegal and attempted a vote, or you tried to vote illegally for someone else,
we will find you and we will charge you.
Illegal voter registration and illegal voting both carry penalties up to five years in prison and up to $250,000 in fines.
We will pursue maximum pressure on this.
To let you know, we will be proactively looking at early voting,
and then after post-election, we will continue to scrub all those that did vote.
Those states that don't participate with us, they have public records of those that voted,
which is where we found the $250,000 from the four states that don't participate with us.
We will go through those records one by one and we will pursue everybody.
We will make sure that people know they can trust our elections.
The numbers this week from the Department of Homeland Security and Customs and Border Protection
confirm that for the 14th straight month, this administration has released zero illegal aliens into the United States.
Again, let me reiterate, the 14th straight month, not a single illegal criminal alien
has been entered into our country, released into our country by this administration.
Illegal crossings in June remained at historic lows,
and Southwest border apprehensions are down 94% compared to the same period under the Biden administration.
These numbers speak for themselves.
Thanks to President Trump's strong leadership and unwavering commitment to law enforcement,
America has the most secure border we have ever had in our nation's history.
The administration continues working to reverse the previous influx of millions of illegal aliens into our country
by the Biden administration, and our law enforcement professionals, God bless them,
are arresting criminal illegal aliens across the country,
including those convicted of the most heinous and violent crimes.
This past weekend alone, ICE arrested a Mexican national and gang member convicted of second-degree murder in California,
a Dominican national convicted of aggravated manslaughter in New Jersey,
a Saudi national convicted of indecent liberties with a child in North Carolina,
a Mexican national convicted of continuous sexual abuse of a child in California,
a Nicaraguan national convicted of second-degree child molestation in Rhode Island,
and a Mexican national convicted of lewd acts with a child under 14 with force in California.
These are egregious crimes, and again, I think we can all agree
that none of you would want these individuals living in your communities,
and you have this administration to thank that they are on their way back home.
The American people delivered a decisive mandate to arrest and deport these dangerous criminals,
and President Trump is wholeheartedly committed to delivering on that mandate every day.
He will never waver in his duty to defend our homeland and protect the American people,
and he has proven without a shadow of doubt that the chaos and the lawlessness
that we saw every single day at the border and across our country under the Biden administration
was a choice, and it is a choice this president has chosen not to make.
While this work is far from finished, the border is secure, and deportations will continue.
So, how is the Save America Act going to get passed?
The House just passed new legislation, must-pass bills,
and they're putting it piecemeal into those bills.
Do you approve of this strategy?
Look, I approve of doing anything possible to pass the Save America Act.
I'm an original sponsor. I've been fighting for it.
What I've been advocating in the Senate is that we force the Democrats to do a talking filibuster.
Right now, the way they filibuster is they just say, I filibuster, and that's it.
We don't make them actually stand up and talk and talk and talk.
Think Jimmy Stewart and Mr. Smith goes to Washington talking and talking until he's falling over.
Remember back in 2013 when I filibustered Obamacare for 21 hours standing on the Senate floor.
We should make them do that and make them talk until they can't talk anymore and they collapse.
So far, I have not been able to convince 50 of my Republican colleagues to do that.
I will tell you, last night, I had dinner with Steve Scalise, the majority whip in the House.
Steve is a good friend of mine.
And much of what we talked about is the House is trying to pass another reconciliation bill.
Reconciliation is the process that you can get around the filibuster.
You can pass legislation with just 50 votes.
And they're working to include as much of the Save America Act in that reconciliation bill as possible.
I very much support that effort.
In fact, he and I spent a lot of time talking about how you do it.
Reconciliation has peculiar rules.
It happens under a statute that that lays out what's called the Byrd rule.
It's a six part test.
The basic gist of it is reconciliation.
You can do things that are budgetary, but not policy.
And so part of what you have to do is take the Save America Act and write it,
turn it into more of a budgetary provision to be able to do it on reconciliation.
But I think that is very worthwhile.
I've also talked with President Trump about that.
I think we should be doing everything possible to advance this.
The true impact of this great turning point on everyday Americans is already starting to show.
My friends, folks who used to feel like their voices did not matter,
are standing up just a little bit taller today.
Our brave veterans, the ones who protected our beautiful republic,
are nodding their heads in approval.
They know exactly what it means when the rules are kept fair and square for the everyday citizens.
Let me share a story that stays close to my heart.
There is a sweet widow I know from church whose husband fought for us way back in the big war.
She still goes out to vote every single time, even using her walker to get to the booth.
During the last election, she looked right at me with tears in her eyes and said,
I just want to know that my vote still means something.
When President Trump fights to pass the Save America Act and challenges those old roadblocks in the Senate,
he is fighting directly for her.
He is fighting for every grandparent who wants their children to inherit a beautiful country
where the rules are honest and the true voice of the people still wins.
That is the real emotional heart of this journey.
It is about a deep, pure love for our home.
You see, President Trump's vision is as crystal clear as a sunny morning.
He knows that when we secure our elections, we can truly secure our borders.
And when our borders are secure, our neighborhoods become safe communities
where children can play outside without a single worry.
Safe communities, strong American energy, and busy factories lead to good, steady jobs and happy, healthy families.
It all connects together beautifully, like pieces of a wonderful puzzle.
When John Thune felt that powerful wave of support from the American people and stepped back from blocking the path,
it sent a message loud and clear across the land.
The old, slow ways are finally giving way to the fresh, beautiful energy of this great movement.
I get truly emotional just sitting here thinking about it.
Because for too many years, we have heard nothing but empty talk.
But right now, we have a president who takes real action.
We have a speaker who stands firm like a strong oak tree.
And a vice president who speaks the absolute truth.
We have brilliant scholars like Victor Davis Hanson who help us see how this moment will be remembered forever.
This unstoppable momentum is completely real.
And it is building every single minute.
It means hope is fully alive, my friends.
Our fight for honest elections is moving forward with full flags flying.
President Trump is proving once again that when you put America first, the heavy walls start to crumble down.
Stay strong, stay active, and keep believing in your heart.
Because when we stand together under God, our country wins.
And that is something to cheer for every single day.
