Happy New Year Everyone. Atlanta Drum Academy Presents Day 1 of 31 Days of Snare Drum Rudiments. Today's rudiment will be the single drag-a-diddle. So grab your snare drum sticks and your practice pads and join us.
Rudiments are an essential part of playing drums and developing some serious drum chops. So in this video, there will be a chop of the day that will incorporate the drum rudiment of the day. The single drag-a-diddle is a combination of the single drag and the single paradiddle put together. This short drum lesson should get you rolling once you master the technique of combining the two.
So take this drum chop lesson, learn the rudiment and the solo and apply it tot your everyday drumming. Shoutout to Youtube for this platform for us all to learn and rock out together.
Be sure to love, like and share this video. Also subscribe to this page for more rudiments. We will post one everyday for the first 31 days of the year 2020.
What's up YouTube? What's up YouTube? And Happy New Year from Atlanta Drum Academy. Give yourself a
hand. The year 2020, well the drumming is going to be plenty. Well that's tight. The year 2020,
well the drumming will be plenty. Say it again. The year 2020. If you just started,
if you've been started, if you started a little while ago, or you haven't even started yet,
it's going to be good. All right. So let's check it out. So what we want to do,
before I go into further, hit the subscribe button, go ahead and hit it. It's either right
here or either right here. Cool. Cool. All right. So what we want to do for the first 31 days of
the year, 2020, we want to demonstrate 31 rudiments. All right. And these rudiments
won't be any particular order. We're just going to demonstrate them at our leisure,
which one we feel like doing. All right. So for the first rudiment we're going to do,
it's called the dragadilla. All right. Yes. The single dragadilla. We have a drag. All right.
And we have a paradilla. You got it? So we have the drag and we have the paradilla.
So the first thing first, let's do the paradilla. Everybody knows, or should know,
how to do a paradilla. So here we go. So we got the regular paradilla. I don't have my
metronome, so I'm going to use my foot. Regular paradilla. Regular paradilla,
accent on the first beat. First beat. The year 2020 with the drummer in his pants. The year 2020.
All right. So now I'm going to keep playing while I'm talking. I'm going to slow it down.
Now we want to put that drag at the beginning of the paradilla. Here we go. Let's try it.
So you can get it. Try it on your own. Just try it for a minute. Try the drag. Try the drag.
Now try the paradilla. All right. You got it? Real simple. I'm going to try to have the music
somewhere so you can see it. Dragadilla. Single dragadilla on the screen right here so you can
see it. All right? So let's do it again. Let's do a paradilla again. Do the drag. Add a drag.
On the dilla. Don't try to go too fast until you get it. Slow back down. Now I know a lot of y'all
want to go fast, but remember, going fast comes with going slow. All right? Go slow before you
try to go fast. Once again, paradilla. That accent right there. Drag. All right. So here we go.
Let's do it again. I'm going to give you a good eight, and I'm going to change the tempo. All
right? Good eight. One, two, seven, eight. Different speed. I'm not the best, but you
get what I'm saying. Different speed. I only did four right there. All right. So remember,
when we play faster, the faster we play, the faster I stick out. All right. So let me make
an on-the-spot snare solo using that dragadilla. I don't know what I'm going to play. I know I'm
going to play the dragadilla, so let's see what we got. So let's go. Let's just do paradilla.
Matter of fact, let's put smooth at the beginning of it. Let's put smooth at the beginning of it.
Let's do this. That's it. And so if you don't know how to play smooth, you can go back and
find the video. I'll try to put the link down here so you can learn how to play smooth. Once again.
And 31 minutes, 31 days. Hit that subscribe button. Like, share, love, all of the above.
