Celtics fans did NOT see this coming...
Jul 19, 2026
Celtics fans did not see this coming, as this Celtics Summer League player had another strong
performance in this game today against the Orlando Magic, where the Celtics unfortunately lost,
concluding their 26-27 Summer League campaign. But folks, who is this player that played so well?
Who are some other guys that played well during today's game, and who didn't play so well?
And now, at the conclusion of Summer League, what is the information that we have about these young
guys on the Celtics roster? What can they really do for the team moving forward? Who is really
going to move up to the actual Celtics team? Who is going to be left behind? Who is going to be a
relic of Summer League? We're going to break all of that down here today on Celtics Digest. Folks,
I'm your host, Kellen Frangione, and it's an absolute pleasure to be back talking about
Celtics basketball, one of my favorite things to do in the world, dare I say. Maybe my favorite
thing to do, but let's talk about it, folks. Before we break it down, I want to tell you
about today's sponsor. Folks, today's sponsor is PrizePix. PrizePix is America's number one
SportsPix app. Make sure to use code Digest when you sign up. We really appreciate it. It helps us
out and gives us more resources to get these videos out faster and to make them of higher
quality for you guys. PrizePix is America's number one SportsPix app. As I already said,
it's the best way to get in on all of the action with your favorite teams. You simply go more or
less on a player projection. You combine a few together. It's all good and well, folks,
and make sure to use our code once again. Later on in this video, I'm going to tell you about some
promotions that PrizePix has going on, as well as give you some MLB picks for some upcoming games.
But folks, back to the video today. What happened? Well, John Tonji had a pretty strong performance
once again, folks. If you'll remember him from this past roster, from the Celtics past season,
he didn't really play at all. And the Celtics game today did finish in a score of 103 to 97.
The Magic unfortunately won the game. Maybe this is revenge for game 82 from this past regular
season where the Celtics G League squad beat the Magic starters. But yeah, unfortunate result for
the Celtics. But let's take a look at that box score because John Tonji once again had a very
strong performance. He was one of the top scorers on the team. And another guy, another surprising
performance came from this game. But folks, let's take a look at it here first. From top to bottom.
Oh, sorry, folks, that is the Magic. Let me pull up the correct one. The Celtics right here, Amari
Williams, 17 minutes, only two points. Unfortunately, one for two from the field, didn't shoot
any threes, didn't shoot any free throws, three rebounds, one assist, three turnovers. Tucker
DeVries had a pretty solid game at 16 minutes, 11 points, four for seven, three for six from three.
I saw many people on Twitter saying he could be a potential candidate for a two-way, but
unfortunately for him, I just don't think there's room. Miloš Užan, 17 minutes, nine points, four
for five, one for one from three. Another pretty solid game for Miloš Užan, who is on one of those
weird, I forget exactly what it's called, it might be a G10 contract or something of that sort,
where he's kind of on a training camp contract with the Celtics. So they want to take a further
look at him without committing to him in any sort of long-term way. The man himself, John Tanji,
had 19 minutes, 14 points, six for nine from the field, two for five from three, four rebounds,
three assists, a steal, and a block. He had a pretty solid game all around, and he continues
a strong Summer League campaign, finishing it well. And folks, something of note in this game,
many guys did not play. Hugo Gonzalez did not play, Dylan Mitchell did not play,
Kristinak Jr. did not play. So a lot of the key guys on this Summer League roster
were not in this one. It was really just the scrubs, dare I say, who played in this one.
No one else really did anything of such heavy note except for Caleb Grill, number 37. In 22
minutes, he had 18 points, six for 12, four for nine from three, three rebounds, one assist.
That's a pretty solid game from Caleb Grill. But folks, who is Caleb Grill? What's his story? What's
his background? Well, like most of you, I'm sure, I did not know too much about him before I looked
into him a little bit. This right here, this man right next to me, is Caleb Grill. He played for
Mizzou in this past season in the NCAA, or maybe it was two seasons ago. But let's take a look at
it here. Grill hasn't had much experience in the NBA so far. He might have been, I think he was on
the G League team for the Nuggets recently. But in college, he had some pretty solid years. His
final year in school, he had a really, really solid stat line, which I think is why he continues
to float around this G League, summer league kind of space. He's not really a big name. He's not
really a standout guy, but he's solid. Let's take a look at his stats right here from college,
folks. You see it here. He played for a few different teams throughout his college campaign,
starting with Iowa State, then going to UNLV, and then back to Iowa State for two seasons
before going to Mizzou for these final two seasons of his career. So yes, he was not in the NCAA this
past season, but the season before that. And in that season, he played 29 games, 26 minutes per
game. He shot 47%, pretty good. 39% from three, very, very solid. 86% from the free throw line,
3.6 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 1.7 steals, which is actually quite solid, and 13.7 points.
That was the best season of his college career. It's not anything extremely eye-popping. It's not
anything that really screams NBA roster to you, but it shows you that Caleb Grille is actually
a pretty solid player. If he had some stronger performances earlier in the summer league,
I would say maybe he could be a candidate for the Celtics to look at further. But unfortunately for
him, I just don't think that's going to be the reality. But salute to you, Caleb Grille, for
having a pretty solid game and doing well throughout the summer league campaign. But you
should have showed a little more. I wish you showed a little more. It seems like nothing further is
really going to happen there. But John Tanji really impressed me throughout the summer league campaign,
and I think that he was a guy of note. He's definitely going to be on the team moving
forward, along with Amari, along with Hugo, along with Sanak, and along with Dylan Mitchell.
So the Celtics still have to figure out a lot of stuff with the roster and the flexibility and
what they want to do. But I would say overall, it was a pretty promising summer league campaign.
These were the starters for the game as well. Just throw it in there. It was Mylos Uzan,
John Tanji, Tucker DeVries, Alondis Williams, and Amari Williams. But no one really did anything
in there except for Mylos, Tanji, DeVries. They had pretty solid games, and the other two guys
unfortunately did not. As well, I saw this tweet that I wanted to note. I told you guys before,
the Celtics were sitting Hugo, Sanak, and Mitchell. The final summer league stats from
all of these guys, I'm going to pull up right here. Gonzalez in three games, 18.3 points,
eight rebounds, 5.7 assists, 1.7 steals, 31% from the field, not very good, and 25% from three,
not very good. So the efficiency numbers are bad, but everything else looks really solid. Sanak in
his four games, 10.5 points, eight rebounds, 2.8 blocks, 36.6% from the field, and 27% from three.
And Mitchell in three games, 13 points, five rebounds, 1.4 assists, 2.7 steals, and 1.3 blocks
on 47% shooting, 37.5% from three, which is pretty good honestly for Dylan Mitchell, a guy who did
not shoot a lot of threes in college, was not really seen as a guy that could even hit the open
three. He did a pretty solid job. I'm really happy with all three of these guys and their performances
throughout Summer League, and I just want to take a look at the overall stat leaders as well.
Those guys are obviously stat leaders. Hugo is obviously at the top of the list, but you see
him right there. John Tanji is firmly in second with his four games played. He had 15 points per
game, about 47% from the field. He's making about three threes per game, which definitely fits the
Celtic system when you look at it. It then goes Dylan Mitchell, Amari Williams, Chris Sanak,
Milos Uzan, Tucker DeVries, and Caleb Grill, the man who played really well in his two appearances,
but as I said before, he's not going to make it much further. But folks, overall, a pretty good
Summer League campaign for the Celtics. They lost two games, and they won all of their other ones.
Pretty solid. I'm not too mad at it. The young guys, I think they did really show what they have
in the tank. Hugo clearly needs to fix his shooting efficiency because he was taking a
lot of bad shots, but I also think that's because he had an increased role in the Summer League
campaign that he's not going to have when it comes to the regular season. He's not going to be the
guy bringing up the ball. He's not going to be the guy who's expected to be an offensive driver.
He's just going to be out there trying to, you know, kind of assist and be another cog in the
machine for the Celtics. But folks, as promised earlier, before I conclude this video, I want to
give you guys some upcoming picks from prize picks for some MLB games happening soon. The first one
is going to be Logan Gilbert for more than $4.5K against the San Francisco Giants, folks. He's
averaging $7.4K over his last five games. Asking him to get $5K is a pretty, pretty low ask,
folks. I think he's going to do it here in this spot. And the next pick is going to be another
pitcher. It's going to be Paul Skeens, the man himself. Take him for more than $5.5K against
the Cleveland Guardians. He's averaging $6.2K over his last five with $8K, $7K, $5K, $4K, and $7K.
I expect him to be able to get six strikeouts against this Guardians team. And folks, don't
forget to use code Digest when you sign up for prize picks. We really appreciate it. Once again,
prize picks is America's number one sports picks app, and we really, really appreciate it if you
use our code. It helps us out. It helps us to our ultimate goal. We're trying to build the largest
Celtics community on YouTube, folks. And before I conclude this video, I also want to leave us
this nice little clip of John Tonji from the game today. Take a look.
Good defense to explosive transition offense. John Tonji gets out on the break and absolutely
slams it to cap off his very, very solid summer league campaign. I was impressed with his play.
But folks, let me know all of your thoughts in the comments. And thank you so much for
watching this video. Once again, I'm your host, Kellen Frangione. It's been a pleasure chatting
about Celtics Summer League today. Unfortunately, we're going to have to wait a little while longer
to see some Celtics basketball again. But thank you very much for watching, guys, and I'll see
you all in the next video.
