Bougainvillea is a beautiful tropical perennial which make an attractive addition to any home’s landscape. Indeed, covering your home’s exterior with their bright and heavy blooms. Bougainvillea can come as a bush, tree, or vine that produces large amounts of stunning flowers in a slew of colors. But how do you go about propagating bougainvillea seeds and cuttings?
DAAIZZ'S TIPS:- Propagation of Bougainvillea Cuttings The easiest of bougainvillea propagation methods is to grow it from cuttings. It can be done at any time of the year. To take a cutting from your bougainvillea, look for softwood. This is a part of the plant that isn’t brand new, but isn’t established and overly woody, either. Cut a length of softwood that is 5 to 6 inches long and has 6 to 9 nodes on it. Nodes are the spots on the branch that either have sprouted smaller branches or contain buds that will sprout soon. If you want, you can dip the end of the cutting in root hormone. Remove any leaves from the cutting and insert it upright in a mix of one part perlite and one part peat. Sink it one or two inches into the growing medium. Keep the pot very warm. Water and spray your cutting every now and again, but don’t let it get overly wet. In a few months it should take root and start to grow into a new plant.

Hello everyone, today we will learn how to propagate bougainvillea from cuttings.
I have taken some cuttings from my variegated bougainvillea plant in the morning and I have
kept them in a bucket filled with water to keep them fresh.
Semi hardwood cuttings are best for warmer climate and hardwood cuttings are better for
colder climates. So let us prepare our cuttings. Remove excess leaves and trim the cutting.
Discard any green or recent growth. Your cutting needs to devote itself fully to root development
so it cannot support any foliage in the meantime. Cutting for propagation should be five to nine
nodes in length. These are the nodes. Nodes are where roots or new growth are more likely to form
so you should prepare and treat the nodes to speed up the propagation. Cut the bottom of each piece
where a node is and cut on an angle so that it is slightly pointed. You have to make a sharp cut
for that use a sketeer. Cut at an angle so it is slightly pointed from the bottom like this.
Make a 45 degree angle. Our cuttings are ready. Now let us prepare the potting mix.
Take 40% normal garden soil, 20% fine sand, 20% vermicompost and 20% cocopeat.
Mix it well. So our potting mix is ready. Let us take some pots with drainage hole at the bottom.
Cover this hole with the small stone for drainage purpose and fill it with the potting mix.
Now our pots are ready so let us treat the end of our cutting with rooting jamun. Instead of rooting
jamun you can use honey or cinnamon powder. Push the bottom two to three inches of the cutting
into the media in the center of the pot. Burying at least one growth node, push the media gently
up against the stem to provide support. Your cutting should not be loose. Repeat the same
process with each cutting. Give some water to the cuttings. Place the pot in bright and indirect
sunlight away from heating or cooling vents. Keep the soil moist all the time. Bougainvilleas are
slow growing plants so it will take 6 to 12 weeks for the root to be well established.
After two months your plant your cutting will look like this and after four months your plant
will look like this. Bougainvilleas love full sun. After your cuttings are three to four months old
place them in direct sunlight for maximum and heavy blooms. Make your garden more vibrant
and colorful with this lovely and beautiful plant. That's all for now guys. Urban Gardener
