Hello there, everybody.
Hello.
Welcome to G Daily Plus.
It is Frying Thursday.
We're frying.
Frying Thursday.
I like that.
Yeah.
Because it's hot.
We'll talk about that in a second.
So we do want to tell you a very
funny author and podcast host,
Laura Cleary will be here.
Her new book, What Doesn't Kill
You Makes You Hotter.
Couldn't agree more.
Is out.
And she's going to tell us all
about it, her upcoming signing
event.
Before that, though, let's talk
about the frying with Maria.
Yeah, sizzling right outside.
Do I sound like a broken record?
We have been talking about this
for quite a while right now.
But I'm telling you, I cannot
remind you enough about the
things, the things that we need
to do here, especially as we get
into tomorrow and Saturday
with the checklist.
It is going to be hot.
We want you to take numerous
water breaks, please.
Hydrate.
Water is important.
If you are working under these
weather conditions and take
numerous breaks from the sun,
wearing the appropriate clothing
actually makes a huge
difference.
Light colored, lightweight
clothing, a hat that can bring
those temperatures down, your
body temperature.
Get in the A.C., though.
That's really the bottom line.
You want to check on your
elderly neighbors, your family
members, and please, let's take
care of our pets because that
pavement can be super hot and
can burn them.
The heat risk is quite high.
It is very high to extreme
today, especially out in the
valleys and the Inlet Empire,
when you factor in a little bit
of that humidity, that heat
index, or that feels-like
temperature really goes up.
So we're talking about well
into the 100s today for many of
our inlet areas, and this is not
changing much tomorrow or
Saturday, like I said.
Monday, I think that ridge of
high pressure, that dome of high
pressure will weaken enough to
where we will get a little bit
more of that sea breeze, and so
that will bring the temperatures
down just slightly.
But for now, high pressure is
going to stay in control.
It's tapping into that
subtropical moisture from the
south and southeast, so we're
adding the humidity to the mix.
So not only is it hot and warm
at night, but we're also feeling
the muggy conditions,
especially inland.
So we've got these advisories
that are in effect, extreme heat
warnings and heat advisories.
We also have harmful levels of
ozone, so we have an air quality
alert.
If you have any sensitivities,
respiratory issues to all of
that pollution, you really
should stay indoors.
I think we should all stay
indoors, especially because it's
going to be so hot.
Even on the sand, it'll be in
the upper 70s, low 80s.
We do have some high surf, so if
you're headed to the beach to
cool off, yeah, that water
temperature feels good.
In the 70s, actually, in a lot
of our beaches, bigger sets for
south-facing beaches.
Right now, three- to six-foot
sets, Ventura County, L.A.
coastline, and then Orange
County.
A little smaller, but when you
make that turn near Huntington
Beach, it can get up to around
five feet.
94 degrees for downtown L.A.,
inland Orange County.
We'll get down to the 80s on
Monday.
So maybe not quite as hot.
It'll still be hot, but not
quite as bad.
106 in the valleys, and the
Inland Empire.
Extreme heat alerts.
Like I said, please watch what
you're doing out there, outside.
Mountains, 88 degrees.
89 on Saturday.
10% chance for those showers, so
a little bit of instability.
It's not a zero chance.
So if you have some hiking plans
or whatever, make sure you do it
in the early morning.
In the afternoons, that chance
for showers will increase.
116 in Palm Springs today,
possibly 118 by Saturday.
So stay heat safe, guys.
Okay?
Back to you.
All right, Maria, thank you so
much.
The preliminary hearing for
Singer David entering day three.
Mario, live at the Criminal
Courts Building in downtown L.A.,
with the details.
Good morning.
Hi, Roxia.
We're getting updates from
inside the courtroom from our
Cristina Gonzalez.
And the first order of business
actually didn't involve witness
testimony.
It involved courtroom conduct.
The judge calling out one of the
members of the public who gained
a seat from that lottery system
saying that they violated the
strict ban on live transmitting
from inside the courtroom.
The judge said she was updating
a Google document from a laptop
inside yesterday, and that was
being transmitted online, that
information being shared as the
proceeding was happening.
So she apologized and she was
kicked out.
Now, something else that we're
seeing today is the defense
continuing to argue,
aggressively challenge how some
of the evidence in the case has
been handled.
And I'll get into more of that.
But first, I want to take you
back to what one of the observers
said about the demeanor of the
21-year-old singer as these
proceedings have been happening.
He's leaning back on the chair,
kind of towards the left side,
relaxing.
He's got his hand like this.
I mean, you would not know that
this guy is up for murder
because I think, like, everyone
else in the courtroom are far
more uncomfortable than he even
is.
Now, once testimony resumed this
morning, defense attorney Blair
Burke, she challenged LAPD
criminologist Lauren Wallace
over evidence that was not
collected.
She questioned why two chainsaws,
a smaller saw, and a foam floor
mat were left at the scene.
The forensic scientists
testified the items tested
negative for possible human
blood during the initial
screening, so they weren't
considered forensically
valuable, as she put it, for
further testing.
Prosecutors then called on an
LAPD trace evidence expert this
morning who testified that two
blue plastic fragments recovered
during Celeste's autopsy
physically matched the cuts in a
blue inflatable pool found in
the garage, fitting together
like puzzle pieces.
And she also said another 12
blue plastic fragments found on
the body very likely came from
that same pool.
Now, I want to go back to
yesterday for a second when the
judge heard from an Interscope
Records executive who testified
that Burke's record contract
would have been worth as much as
$19 million, and this is how
Celeste's family attorney
reacted to that news.
He was an up-and-coming rising
star, but once you started
hearing the numbers, it was
rather stunning, the amount of
money that he was earning and
his earning capacity.
He had guarantees of a minimum
of $3 million and a maximum
guarantee of $6 million with
bonuses that increase, and so
the numbers just went up and up
and up.
Now, that all ties into how
prosecutors have been arguing
that Celeste had gone public,
if she had gone public with
those allegations about that
sexual illegal relationship, it
would have destroyed his career
and threatened those earnings.
Now, today, as the proceeding
continues, a preliminary hearing
day three getting underway here,
we're expected to hear from an
LAPD detective who was
investigating the alleged
relationship between the two.
We're expecting a lot more
evidence to be presented, and
it appears they're going through
these witness testimonies
fairly quickly today.
Again, we have Cristina Gonzalez
with us inside the courtroom.
She's giving us any updates, and
we'll have more to come on this
for now, live at the Criminal
Courts Building downtown.
I'm Mario Ramirez.
We'll send it back to you.
All right, we're following.
Thank you, Mario.
We have some breaking news out
of West Hollywood, where work is
underway to fix a leaking water
valve that flooded Santa Monica
Boulevard this morning.
Brooke Thomas is there, and she
has got an update for us.
Good morning, Brooke.
Hey there, yeah, let's get right
into it right here at Santa
Monica in Laurel.
What we have heard so far is up
to 20 businesses have had their
water impacted, four at least,
have had to completely close for
the day because of what happened
behind me.
I talked to one of those people,
a representative from a business
here, actually, a man who said he
works at, I believe,
Westside Construction.
He told me they were simply
working on an apartment here down
the road.
And they have had to shut down
work because of this.
Not only that, he said they don't
have water.
The biggest thing is when he got
out here and he saw everything,
it freaked him out a little bit.
That's exactly what I thought.
I was like, man, is it gonna keep
on happening all over West
Hollywood or what?
But hopefully not, hopefully not.
Is it gonna keep on happening
around West Hollywood?
Hopefully not.
That is a common thought out here
in West Hollywood.
The video that you're watching
right now is actually from Jose.
He was one of the first people on
the scene, getting here early for
what he thought would be a day
of work.
He tells me he was out here before
emergency crews were, before
anyone really knew what was going
on. And that's what he saw.
You're looking at video that he
got for us on his own phone,
just of the disaster happening.
But I can tell you
that crews were out here.
They are working very quickly.
And when we got out here,
we saw also puddling,
not as much as that.
But by the time I got out here
this morning after the early show,
they had shut the water access to
that six inch pipe in question,
where the water main break was.
And they were able to get the
water to stop flowing,
stop expanding through this area.
And now at this time,
there's not really any water there
though, still many people in the
area left with many questions.
I arrived around six in
the morning.
And then as soon as I arrived,
I heard and I noticed like the
literally like the river going
down the street.
And that's when I came in and
I looked at I think that it was
right there.
And so I immediately started
recording it.
And then my inspector came over
and said I had to cancel my train
for today due to the street
closure.
I've been hearing that line was
over 100 years old.
So I'm like, what a coincidence.
Like what is it like five miles,
less than five miles away and
this bus that too now.
So I'm just hoping they fix this.
And look, that's exactly what
authorities are telling us.
Officials I should tell you from
LADWP is that this actually just
is just that a coincidence.
They tell us these two
water main breaks,
just days apart from each other,
just miles apart from each other
were both a coincidence and
they are unrelated.
As you can see behind me out here
live, traffic is moving pretty
quickly, obviously westbound,
eastbound.
Traffic is down to one lane.
So if your normal route takes you
through Santa Monica and Laurel,
it's just best to go around just
to be safe because you don't wanna
get caught up in any traffic, but
they do have traffic moving in
both directions, which is different
than what we saw around seven
o'clock this morning when
eastbound lanes were completely
shut down.
So as of right now,
we've also been told that
they expect this to be wrapped up
around four o'clock and
they're hoping that that means
the road is fully open around that
time as well.
But officials couldn't make
any promises.
I'll send things back to you all
in the studio.
It's a busy area.
What a mess.
Brooke, thank you.
Meantime, LADWP crews hit a minor
snag while they were repaving and
striping Sunset Boulevard early
this morning.
Overnight, workers discovered a
small pinhole-sized leak at the
east end of that work site,
requiring them to dig out a
section to track down the issue.
This, of course, is where that
major water main break happened
This morning, the team is pulling
water quality samples and wielding
a patch over the leak.
Despite the overnight repair,
LADWP says the timeline has not
been impacted, and they're still
on track for their goal of
reopening the streets by Friday
or Saturday.
Who says you have to wait until
December before a little
Christmas magic?
This weekend, you can have that.
A holiday wonderland popping up
in the middle of summer.
And Coco live at Heritage Square
in Montecito Heights with the
sneak peek.
Coco.
Good morning.
We've been having so much fun
here at Heritage Square Museum in
Montecito Heights.
We are previewing a wonderful
production happening on Saturday
called Christmas in July put on
by Storyland Productions and
Pasadena Civic Ballet.
This is Tanya and Zoe.
So tell us about this production.
Hi, Coco.
Yes, we are here actually in
Toyland, and this is where the
magic happens.
Heritage Square Museum is such a
beautiful place to transport you
to Christmas, even in the
summertime.
And Toyland is where all the magic
happens. It's where Santa creates
all of his toys for the next
season.
So we can't wait to welcome you
all here to Christmas in July.
Our storybook, Festive Immersive.
Guests will start by visiting
five gorgeous storybook settings,
meet their characters up close
and have a chance to get their
Christmas card photos done well
ahead of the Christmas rush.
And then they'll enjoy Candyland
with Miss Sweet Strolling Table,
a gummy bear lounge and cool off
with some delicious gingerbread
apple slushies.
And we're going to have
strawberry ice creams dipped in
chocolate.
My favorites.
We don't have to wait until
Christmas to celebrate these
treats.
And then we'll enter here into
Toyland and see a performance
with a cast of over 20
performers.
We're just getting a sneak peek
today with ballet, tap,
hip hop, jazz, musical theater.
And oh, here's Little Red
Riding Hood, one of your
storybook characters that you'll
get to see up close and personal.
I love that.
She looks wonderful.
And you have so many performers.
And here's Goldilocks and her
little bear.
I'm guessing the other two are
probably taking a little nap.
I don't know if they had their
porridge this morning, but.
Oh, my gosh, how wonderful.
Oh, look, it's Little Bo Peep.
And thankfully, she has finally
found her sheep.
Yes.
I think Little Bo Peep might
need an air tag for some
of her sheep.
Definitely needs an air tag
for her sheep.
Look at this performance.
It's really a chance to immerse
yourself in this, right?
Absolutely.
And as you can see, our cast,
we have young children who are,
you know, perform and take
classes at Pasadena Civic Ballet.
And we also have professional
dancers.
Both Emily and Josh started
at the ballet school at three.
They're both professional
dancers.
So it runs the whole gamut,
just like our studio, whether
you want a recreational class
or you want serious training.
We have amazing faculty members.
Yeah.
There's Tom.
You look incredible.
You can't miss this production.
You can go to our website,
pcballet.com.
We have special Good Day LA
tickets for $25, pcballet.com.
And you can see this amazing
production.
This is a little bit of our
finale, but this is just
a small, tiny sneak peek
of what we have to offer.
We have hip hop.
There's going to be tap.
There's lots of things here.
And I think, oh, my gosh,
Santa's coming.
Oh, we love Santa Claus.
What do you think, Coco?
I think we should join the cast
and maybe learn the toy soldier
dance.
OK, let's do it.
OK, I can't say no to Santa
Claus, of course.
OK, let's see here.
All right, let's get our salutes
on, everyone.
OK.
And here we go.
Forward, two, three, four,
and back.
Or two, three, four, and turn.
OK.
I like it.
And forward.
And back.
And turn.
And let's give a salute.
Hope to see you all at Christmas
in July.
July 25th.
I love it.
It's never too early to celebrate
Christmas.
It's my favorite holiday.
I also love spending time
with Tanya and Zoe
from Pasadena Civic Ballet.
You're going to want to spend
time with them, too.
Come on Saturday here
to Heritage Square Museum
to really enjoy this production,
Christmas in July.
I'll send it back to you.
Never too early.
Thank you, Coco.
All right, coming up, the very
funny Laura Cleary is in our
Yamaha lounge.
There she is, that beauty.
She's going to be talking to us
about her new book.
What Doesn't Kill You Makes You
Hotter.
I'm sorry you can't possibly be
any hotter.
And her upcoming signing event
when we come back.
Hi, welcome back.
So our plus one today
is a digital powerhouse
with over 24 million followers
who love her unfiltered honesty
about motherhood, divorce,
and resilience.
Laura Cleary hosts a hit podcast
Idiot with Laura Cleary.
And is a New York Times
bestselling author.
Her brand new memoir is
What Doesn't Kill You Makes You
Hotter.
I like that.
I like that, too.
Thank you.
Thank you for being here.
Thank you for having me.
This is very exciting.
Congratulations on your book.
Thank you.
I feel like Kelly Clarkson needs
to make a remix.
What doesn't kill you
makes you hotter.
She does, right?
It's true.
And the glow up is real.
It's real.
It really is.
You know, the post-divorce,
you know.
Yeah, it's a real thing.
Well, post-divorce, I turned 40
yesterday.
What?
That's a big birthday.
It's crazy.
You're in good company.
We're all in our 40s.
Cancer.
You are cancer.
Yeah.
Cancer, you're caring.
You're nurturing.
Is that what I am?
I guess I am.
But Leo's an emotional,
Yes.
Right.
I don't know anything
about signs.
Me either.
In high school, I had a teacher
that said, cancer.
Loves having fun.
Hates being told what to do.
And that's all you have to know.
Is that you?
Yes.
100%.
That's why I'm a professional
idiot.
That was always my only dream,
was to get paid to be an idiot.
And that's what I'm doing, girls.
It's amazing.
Did you do something fun
for your birthday?
Just your ways.
I had a little pizza party
with my five and seven-year-olds.
Yeah.
And then I'm going to go to
Malibu, do a little staycation.
I love a staycation.
That's fun.
Don't you love a little
staycation?
I love it.
I love a little staycation.
Yeah.
You love to get on a plane.
Are you doing an Airbnb?
What are you doing?
Just a little fun, little hotel.
OK.
Hotel.
Excuse me.
Nobody's saying that
the hotel-motel holiday
anymore in this show.
We've got to get back to that.
Because you're a millennial.
Yeah.
OK, go ahead.
That was a vibe check for a second.
I've been having a lot
of millennial content
pop up in my feed lately,
and I've been sharing it
with my girls.
I think that we are the blueprint
as millennials.
Listen, I saw somebody yesterday
walking near the Whole Foods
with a double tank top,
a spaghetti strap tank top
with the lace at the bottom.
Yeah.
And the bell bottom.
Do they have a belt?
And I'm like, oh, you missed it.
I thought you just threw this
on yourself, didn't you?
No, you didn't.
No.
You learned it from all of us.
You learned it from us.
It was a non-millennial
wearing it?
Oh, yeah.
Oh, no, no, no.
The Gen Z's are totally
taking our stuff.
That's why we're the blueprint.
Yes, exactly.
Yeah.
It's the big baggy jeans.
Yeah.
You guys, I bought a halter top
from Target last week.
Help me.
Is that because I'm 40 now?
I'm coming around again.
Is this midlife crisis?
No, but they're back.
And I was just like,
I saw a halter top.
But I'm like, a halter top?
Does that not take you back?
Yes.
Dawson's Creek days.
Oh, my god.
I love it.
Tube tops are back.
Listen, I have it.
They never left in my house.
I will always wear a tube top.
That's true.
You do always wear a tube top.
And a tube top loves you.
I love a tube top.
Just no low-rise jeans, please.
No more.
After you're a mom, absolutely
not.
But maybe low-rise sweats.
That I can do.
Sure, with a massive baggy
t-shirt, fine.
They've got to have some good.
Or no pants at all.
And a really big t-shirt.
And just walk around the house.
I prefer no pants.
Yeah.
Yeah, I did a Zoom the other day
with no pants.
And you could.
Because it's a Zoom, right?
It wasn't a professional Zoom.
Yeah, let's get one thing
straight.
Yeah, it wasn't a professional
Zoom.
It was a personal Zoom.
And so I had an old rocker
t-shirt on.
And no pants.
No pants.
Yeah.
I love that.
So what's your story?
When did you get divorced?
What happened?
So you guys, I'm only divorced
for like two months.
What?
Yeah, it's fresh.
Yeah, it's very fresh.
But you know, that takes
the process takes a long time.
I'm hearing this.
Yeah, so like we
Back and forth.
So I separated four years ago.
And so this is my third book,
What Doesn't Kill You
Makes You Hotter.
It's funny because I reached out
to my publishers four years ago
when I had first separated
from my husband of 10 years.
We had a one and a three year.
My kids were one and three
at the time.
And it was a few months in.
And I was like, you know,
I was writing in my journal
every day about it.
And I'm like, you know, so many
women go through this.
Like 56% of people
go through divorce.
So you were how old were you?
Like what?
How old were you when you
well, you were 36 months ago.
So, yeah, you were 36.
Look at us doing math.
So you're mid 30s.
You're like in your career.
Yeah, at the prime of your life.
And it probably felt at that point
like your whole world
had fallen apart.
Absolutely.
It was very abrupt, too.
Like, yeah, you know,
a lot of people I talk to go like
I wasted 10 years of my life
and fair.
But I don't feel that way.
Like we had so many good,
amazing years.
I talk about this in the book.
I'm a recovering addict.
So is my ex-husband now.
I truly believe sobriety brought
us together and addiction
ripped us apart.
And it really did.
So I didn't know that he had
relapsed and was back on drugs.
At that time, I just saw like
crazy erratic behavior.
And I was like, I need to
separate.
We need, you know, because I
don't know what is going on
with you, but this is not safe.
I need kids.
And then I have kids.
Yeah, so I had to walk away from
this man that I loved.
Yeah, because I was like,
who are you?
Right.
And I wish I could say
that that separation,
that that first moment
was the worst of it.
But it really did just get
so insane.
Like my publisher says
this book reads like
a thriller, you guys.
Yeah, now I make it funny
because I can't not.
Sell it to a streamer.
Make it a limited series.
Yeah, maybe, you know,
I mean, it really was
another thriller.
And another thing about it,
too, was also public.
So I separated and then it got
it was on the Internet
within a week.
And so I had like thousands
of people commenting
on this thing.
It makes everything like
weighing in on a situation.
They have they have no knowledge
of what what got you here,
what got the both of you here.
Totally.
Which is just like compounds
in the pain.
Yeah, exactly.
Yeah.
So when I first started
writing the book, I was like,
I didn't think it was
going to be a fluff piece.
I didn't think it was
going to be like Chris Martin
and Gwyneth Paltrow,
like conscious uncoupling.
Right.
You know, I didn't think that.
But I thought, yeah, my
my hope was still
let's be friends for the kids.
And, you know, yeah.
And yeah, it just did
not go that way now.
Now he has 11 months
over, which is amazing.
And that's great.
It's great.
And like, you know,
we're co-parenting.
But it was quite a ride
this last four years.
It was the most insane
years of my life.
I'm sure you learned
a lot about yourself.
Right.
And yeah.
Yeah.
Our producer said
that you were recently
crushed by a refrigerator.
I'm hoping this is true
because it would be
really ridiculous if it wasn't.
There's video of it.
Yeah.
There's not video of me
under the fridge.
The aftermath.
But yeah.
OK, what happened?
So, oh, girls, this was.
Wait, wait.
Who's that?
This is that hottie.
Yeah.
That's your new boyfriend.
That's my hot ass firefighter.
Oops.
It's OK.
That's fine.
I don't think that's a bad word.
I don't think so.
I can't hear our producer,
so I don't know if it is or not.
I mean, my five year old says it,
so it can't be that bad.
I know.
FTC rules.
I'm not sure.
I think that's OK.
But if it's not, we apologize.
Yeah.
OK.
Keep going.
I'm really sorry.
Yeah.
It's fine.
OK.
Take me anywhere.
So what happened?
Back to the fridge.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
So it's like 830 p.m.
Right.
We're doing bedtimes.
We're all bathed and showered
and ready for bed.
And I go to the bathroom
and all of a sudden,
I hear my seven year old
who's on the spectrum.
He's not nonverbal,
but he's not conversational.
So anyway, I hear him go,
mommy, mommy, mommy
from the kitchen.
I run out.
He's standing over my massive
stainless steel French door,
just huge 600 pound fridge.
Oh, my gosh.
And it's tilted forward.
And he's just standing under it.
And the doors are open
and the doors are keeping it
from crushing him.
Oh, my gosh.
So I get him out of the way.
Now, how that happened,
my son, you know,
he climbs on everything.
I have a feeling he tried to climb
while I was in the bathroom
and it wasn't properly installed
because there's no way
a seven year old
should be able to pull
a 700 pound, 600 pound fridge.
Absolutely not.
So I get him out of the way
and then I'm like, I got this.
I'm going to push it back
into place.
That's what I would think.
It was just tilted like that.
And I just thought, OK,
I can just push.
And then right as I started
pushing the doors shut,
it just just right on me.
So now I'm pinned.
I have an eye.
There's a kitchen island behind me.
So I'm pinned under this
between the island and the fridge.
That's right.
So my it's the the island
is on my lower back.
And the fridge is just just slowly
just crushing my hips,
my chest, my ribs, everything.
When I try to push it off of me,
it's like pushing a building.
Yeah, there's just
and you're not at a good angle
to be able to do anything.
No, no.
And by the grace of whatever,
I had my phone in my pocket.
Oh, lucky.
And I never had my phone
in my pocket at home.
Right. It's always charging
like on a table.
But I had it in my sweatpants.
Thank God I was wearing pants.
Sweatpants.
Good thing you were wearing pants.
Oh, my God.
So I pull out my phone
from my pocket, put it on the island
and I call 9-1-1.
Oh, my God.
And I sound like a frickin
crazy person, right?
Because I can barely breathe.
My five year old's next to me
crying. My son ran out
the backyard.
He's just freaking out.
And I'm like, oh, great.
Has he eloped?
Because he'll run off.
He's on the spectrum
and that's something they do.
So I'm like, did he run away
because he's scared?
Oh, my gosh.
There's nothing I could do.
Right. And so I call 9-1-1.
I sound like this.
OK.
And then the 9-1-1 dispatcher
goes, ma'am, if you don't calm
down, I'm going to hang up on you.
What?
She goes, if you don't
calm down, I'm going to hang up
on you.
You're under a bridge right now.
First of all, calling 9-1-1
and calming down don't work
in the same sentence.
Who is calling 9-1-1 when you're
panicked about something?
Little emergency stuff.
Help.
I'm like, I'm kind of sort
of dying.
Right.
So anyway, but it kind of worked.
I think it was a tactic so she
could hear the address
and my gate code and everything
because I was like, in my head,
I go, if she hangs up, I'm dead.
I'm going to die in front
of my children.
This is so dark.
Sorry.
But but it didn't happen.
But it didn't happen, folks.
Happily, we're here and we're
hotter than ever.
All right.
You hotter.
It made me hotter.
I've got lower back pain,
but it made me hotter.
She's got sciatica.
Yeah.
But so anyway, so then
firefighters come, they break
down the garage door.
It takes three firefighters
to break down my door
and three firefighters to push
this fridge off of me.
Wait, how long did it take
for them to come?
I was under there.
I would say about 20 minutes.
Wow.
I mean, I would that's
a long 20 minutes.
You know what?
Can I just say I have
a refrigerator where it beeps
if the doors are open
after too long.
Do you guys have that?
Yeah, that would drive me
to insanity.
Like, you know,
the modern day fridges
are not very
calming.
No, not at all.
I don't recall the beeps,
but OK, thank God.
Yeah, because I was just
too busy trying to stay alive.
Yeah, trying to breathe.
And then when I went
to the trauma unit,
they did a full CT scan.
I didn't know if I was
sure internal damage.
Right.
You don't know.
You just don't know.
And everything's like,
you know, you're shaking.
You're in pain.
You're feeling numb.
Like, you just don't know.
They did full CT scans.
2 a.m.
The doctor comes out
and he's like, well,
you got very strong hips.
Oh, I was like,
I know.
I was like, tell my children
that we stop.
I am divorced, but
no, but he said
I didn't break anything.
Wow.
When was this?
Like recently?
It was a few months ago.
A few months ago.
Wow.
Did we get a new refrigerator?
No.
We still have the same one.
Guys, my first book's
called Idiot.
No, I had a handyman
come in the next day.
Mount it.
Like exactly.
And he goes, oh,
well, I'm suing
because they did not put
the fridge in correctly
or into my cabinetry correctly.
Wow.
So there were nine
or sorry, eight holes
on the fridge
that were supposed to be nailed in.
None of them were nailed in.
None of them.
Wow.
Right.
It was all empty.
And this is why you're going
to Malibu over the weekend.
That's right.
Yeah.
And this is why I'm going to Malibu.
But I haven't cooked a meal
since that happened.
Yeah.
So I so we installed
the fridge correctly.
And I'm letting them see it.
Oh, my God.
They could have been my son.
And, you know,
that could have been.
Yes.
And I probably had about
10 more minutes
before I passed out.
And if that happened,
there was no adult
due to come the next day.
I mean, that's my biggest fear
as a single mom.
Something happens.
They've got young kids, of course.
And what do we do?
Right.
You know, my lesson from that
is keep your phone with you
everywhere you go.
And we're and we're
and we're and we're
and put your pants on.
Yeah.
And beware.
Right now, refrigerators
be so much to the story.
Really?
I know.
But we survived and we're hotter.
That's right.
And it's never.
Yeah.
And you know what I like?
I like when hot women
can say I'm hot.
You know what I mean?
And you you don't come off
conceited or like,
oh, she's so full of herself.
Like, let's bring the power back.
Yeah.
Do people like give you,
you know, negative feedback on that?
Not even.
I don't.
Not that I see.
Yeah.
But, you know,
I tend to ignore the negativity
when you have 26 million followers.
You're going to get
and we definitely don't know
what that's like.
You're going to scale.
Oh, yeah.
But I also get a ton of comments.
Oh, for sure.
Out of crazy fields.
Yeah.
And mostly I just,
you know, look the other way,
focus on the positive.
And then sometimes I'm petty
and I'll like post their comments.
Oh, yeah.
And start a war.
Yeah.
You know, it just depends
on where I'm at in my life.
You know what I do is
I will post their comments
and then I'll post their face.
Girl, you're savage.
Oh, yeah.
Like the Titanic song, doo doo doo.
Yeah.
I saw you call somebody
that is my nose, idiot,
the other day.
Because somebody said
something about my nose.
They were like,
it's nose job Wednesday.
And I'm like,
this is my real nose.
You think I would pay
for a nose this small?
And then she goes, idiot, idiot.
People are just ridiculous.
You do.
I mean, when you're online,
you have a powerful
social media presence
like yourself.
Like it takes an incredible
amount of restraint to not.
Well, you know,
hurt people hurt people.
But I'll tell you
something else.
One hater.
I started a clothing brand
based off this hater comment.
OK, so I was like,
look at the monetization.
Yeah, I love it.
That's what I say.
I say monetize the haters.
OK, cool, I monetize you.
Yeah.
Wait, so what's it called?
So so it's it's
it was a few years
and it did really well.
And then I just got sick
of slinging sweatpants.
So I stopped.
But I got this DM.
My son was six months old
and I was breastfeeding him
and I was out to eat.
So someone snapped
an Instagram story about saying
like both we're both eating lunch.
OK.
And it was just like a story.
That's cute.
He was drinking out of my booth.
I was eating a salad.
It was just a cute moment.
And I'm all about
normalizing breastfeeding.
Right, because there's
a lot of shame
that comes with women.
They don't feel like
they can feed their kids
in public.
And it's so silly.
So that was a big deal for me.
Anyway, I get this DM
from this woman and she goes,
put your boybs away.
She spelled boobs.
B-O-I-B-S.
Put your boybs away.
Nobody wants to see your boybs.
Your boybs are for your husband.
Your baby is too big for your boybs.
Put your boybs away.
She kept saying boybs.
She just kept saying boybs.
It wasn't like one typo.
Right.
That's how she spelled it.
It was B-O-I-B-S
like six times in the DM.
It made me laugh so hard
that I posted it.
And then it went super viral.
Then all these women
are sharing stories
of their being ashamed
for breastfeeding.
Hashtag boybs.
And then when I got approached
to start a clothing brand,
they were like,
what do you want to call it?
And I was like, boybs.
And I liked it
because it was like
a made up word, like goop.
You know what I mean?
It just was like a fun.
And then it had a great backstory.
So anyway, that was
like a few years of fun.
So it's like what doesn't kill you
makes your hotter.
What doesn't kill you
makes you richer.
Boybs will be boybs.
That's right.
You can make your own
acronym out of it.
You could do anything.
Bring on idiot behavior.
Yeah.
No, yeah.
Yeah, there we go.
It really is like idiot.
So bring on idiot behavior.
Bring on idiot.
Like an acronym.
Boybs.
Hire her.
You gotta hire her.
That's your fourth book.
That's right.
That's my fourth book.
Boybs.
Yeah.
A memoir.
It's just turning
the negative into something
fun and fruitful.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
You have to.
Yeah.
That's why.
We love you, Laura Cleary.
OK, so you have a book
signing event that's happening.
Friendship in the car.
Oh, yeah.
We did this at what?
4 p.m.
Zibby's Bookshop,
1113 Santa Monica Avenue
in Santa Monica.
Moderated by your friends.
Yeah, Manon Matthews.
Manon Matthews.
You guys are fun.
You need to come together.
Please.
Can you guys come back together?
Oh, we will.
I would love that.
When she's singing
and dancing in the car.
Yeah, that was me and you.
Except I was you.
You were her and I'm Manon.
Yeah.
So good.
Yeah, you just need
that silly friend.
Yeah, everyone needs one.
We've been making silly content
together for 10 years.
It's so fun.
I meet her and we're
like children again.
Oh, I love that.
Seriously, come back with her.
Seriously, you guys would be great.
I would love that.
OK, where are we going?
You know?
Oh, yeah.
Take a trip Thursday.
Travel Thursday.
Jen, we'll start with you.
Where are you going?
Take me to the south of France.
OK.
I want to go to Greece.
OK, great.
I would like to go to Japan today.
What?
OK.
I'm changing it up.
I would like to go visit Japan today.
I'm manifesting.
That's a long flight.
I know.
You can't go to Japan without Sandra.
She has to, like, take us all.
That's true.
That would be really fun.
Yeah.
One day we're going to have
to do that for sure.
And then you'll take us to Armenia.
OK, and then you'll take us
to Puerto Rico.
Give me a taste of Italy.
Italy.
There we go.
I've never been, but I'll take you there.
Don't you love when one of your friends
does a post and it blows up?
Because the subject matter is so juicy
and I love this.
So how do you feel about
some of your exes?
Do you ever want one of your exes
to wake up when he's visiting L.A.
or he's in town and see you on TV?
I want all my exes to wake up
and to see my face on the screen.
Now, this is what Jordan asked.
Take a look.
I have zero intention
on ever getting back
with any one of my exes ever.
I do, however,
I want to know that I'm the favorite ex,
the benchmark, the lure,
the one that got away,
the great white buffalo.
Is that toxic?
Are you the favorite ex?
How do you know?
OK, oh, that's a good question.
I love that she asked that.
One, I commented to her and I said,
yes, I absolutely do hope
I'd like to think I'm the favorite ex.
And I don't think it's toxic
to think that.
No, I don't think so either.
Yeah, I think that's normal.
I think that's normal.
We all want to feel special in some way.
I always know if like
you still get to them
where you'll say,
oh, you unfollowed me,
but you were following
me under your skin.
Yeah, but you were following me
for two years after we broke up
and then you suddenly unfollowed me.
That's right.
When I was posting my boo.
Uh huh.
Wait, did you go back to check
to see if they were following you?
Well, no, my one of my family members
told me that he posted something
and you went to and I went to go and see it.
And I saw that I couldn't see it anymore
because he was private.
So not only unfollowed, but blocked
or no, just unfollowed.
You can remove a follower too.
Yeah, I've never done that.
But the fact that he had to go through
one, two, three steps.
You got to, you got to.
That's what I'm saying.
So, yeah, I like to think
I also got a DM from my high school ex.
You know, the one
that I went to homecoming with.
Yes.
And he wanted to tell me
what he thought about the Odyssey.
Now, I know.
Now, I know I'm an ex
because I know you're not
DMing your college exes
to tell you about the Odyssey.
No, he's not.
Yeah.
So I know.
And did you respond?
I just liked it.
Yeah, I just like
and if my husband's watching right now,
he's going to probably say to me,
why did you like it?
Why are you engaging?
Why did you like it?
I don't know, because I like the Odyssey
and I was just like,
well, I've ignored
like some of his other messages.
But I did agree with some of his
thoughts on the Odyssey.
It was very much about
the subject matter at hand.
That's right.
Yeah.
But also in here,
you're the favorite.
Right.
Yeah.
So tell me about you guys.
I will during break.
Yeah, I will.
Apparently, we're going to break.
I can't hear anything.
Not to say like the fate.
I have a I want
I'm the favorite ex or whatever.
This is about our ex-boyfriend.
I just have a good story
about about an ex-boyfriend.
So and this is like the ultimate
like, yeah, you know.
So this was a couple of years ago.
I was working for a syndicated
entertainment show
and my executive producer
was meeting with somebody
in her office.
And this voice sounded
very familiar.
Oh, no.
And I was like, oh, gosh,
wait a second.
I know a chill ran through my body
and I go past her office
and he is on Zoom
with my executive producer
and the head of telepictures.
And I was like,
what's this all about?
So I'm like hovering
outside of the office
and my stylist,
because I had a stylist
at that point.
What's that like?
I know. Right.
She was like,
you've got to go in there.
And I'm like, because she said
they're interviewing him for a job.
And I said, the heck they are.
So she shoves me into
my executive producer's office
to show her an outfit
that I had tried on.
Oh, smart, clever.
And and she said, oh, Jen,
I'm glad you're here
because I actually have somebody
in my office right now.
You might know of him.
He's very popular on social media,
but he also lived in New York.
And I know that you
used to live in New York.
She had no idea.
Oh, my gosh.
She said, come over here.
Sit on my lap.
And I sat in her lap
and we were just face to face, baby.
Face to face.
And I said, hi.
What'd he say?
Like he saw a ghost.
His whole face turned light.
Did he say hi back?
Yeah. How did you look?
I looked great.
Yeah. And the outfit was great.
And the outfit was banging.
Yeah. And he didn't get the job.
No, he did not.
He did not.
And it was nothing to do with me,
by the way.
Just he just wasn't good enough anyway.
So so they said,
she said, why are you guys
so quiet right now?
Oh, my gosh.
Do you know each other?
And I said, yeah,
we actually dated for two years.
And he said, yeah,
she lived here with me.
This was her home.
And then her face turns white.
So I'm like, wow,
what's the connection?
Yeah, how did that come?
So then, you know, I said, he's
a he's lovely person.
As soon as the call was over,
I'm like, that's my ex-boyfriend.
Do not hire him.
Oh, my God.
Yeah, I got to reach out after that.
He did. He did.
What do you say?
Like he texted.
He was like, well, that was funny,
wasn't it?
Oh, and did you text him back?
Nothing. Yeah.
Good job.
That was my crowning moment.
Do you have anything to share?
We got a good break.
Saved by the break.
I love it.
There's a bird.
It's not Jackie.
I don't know who that is.
No, no, no.
I don't know.
Where is this?
Oh, it's in Boston.
Yeah, I guess that's an osprey.
I was going to say it's a bird.
It's a plane.
It's Superman at Comic-Con
right now in San Diego.
That's great.
Instead, you end it.
It's a bird.
It just goes.
It's a bird.
There we go.
Welcome back.
It's like a hey, it's a it's a camera.
Hey, learning is fun.
Speaking of learning, though,
a new toy has parents
buzzing on social media.
It's the.
Oh, no way.
It's called the My Mini Baby Surprise Doll.
This is not real.
Uh-huh.
It's a pregnant woman
with a removable stomach
that contains a tiny
plastic baby in a sack of slime
that the kids get to free
by ripping, twisting,
you know, pulling.
Oh, and then she just had it back.
Hey, why couldn't we do this
after we do it?
That's the offensive part, right?
One commenter had fun
with one comment saying
no one gave me the option
for the flip to a flat
stomach section.
And honestly, I'm upset about it.
I love again that that's the part
that, you know, that some babies
have actually really been born
like that with the sack intact.
It's like one in.
It's such a rare birth.
There's a term for it.
But all they do is like,
boop, they wait the sack.
Another way, if it's a C-section
or in general,
it could be happen like this.
Yeah, it's a C-section.
Another comment says,
where are the stretch marks
and swollen angles?
We're doing this.
Make it realistic.
Yeah, that's right.
Yeah. Yeah. Blondie.
Yeah. Right.
Yeah. Also, your hair
wouldn't look like that.
Your makeup wouldn't look like that.
I don't know.
Have you seen people get glammed
before they go?
Which is ridiculous.
Yeah, it's ridiculous.
I know.
But there's a lot of hair.
Isn't that full?
You get all your hair
is falling out.
You're still in the Dalmatian.
Listen, you've got a double,
triple chin going.
Are they even like that
for the conception?
Yeah. Let's keep it consistent.
You have like dark veins
on your boobs,
because you're about
to start breastfeeding.
I'm just telling you
what happens to a body.
It's not good.
Yeah.
She's smiling like this.
Tears coming down her eyes.
With her boibs out.
Oh.
And now she's going to have,
our guest, Laura Cleary,
is going to have me
calling them boibs.
Boibs.
Yeah.
Anyway.
Anyway, we're back.
