Video Summary
AI GeneratedThe New York Mets are experiencing a catastrophic collapse in June 2026, mirroring a similar downfall in 2025. The team has suffered a massive decline in performance, leading to the firing of manager Carlos Mendoza and a near-total loss of postseason hope due to a \"cursed\" historical trend during this month.
This is way worse than we could have even imagined.
The Mets' struggles continue to persist in June.
The month's seasons crumble to a point of no return,
with the 2026 season being no exception.
The manager was fired, the team completely fell apart,
and so much more in just 30 days.
So I'm your host today, Mike Duda,
ready to dive into all of it only on Mets Digest.

Now we talk about June.
That's where seasons go to crumble
and the perfect example was last year in 2025
and that magic, not in a positive way,
date of June 13th when the Mets opened up a series
against the Tampa Bay Rays.
Now the day before,
that's when Kodai Senga went down
with that seemingly career-changing injury.
He has never been the same pitcher since.
He has been pretty bad, blatantly, objectively speaking,
not even subjectively.
He has been bad since that day.
Before that, multiple times Cy Young candidate,
Rookie of the Year candidate.
He was awesome on his way to possibly a Cy Young year in 2025.
And then, of course, that injury happened the day before.
Now they did hold on to get that victory
and the night before was great too.
It was a Wednesday night game
that was almost sold out, over 40,000 people.
David Peterson throws a complete game shutout.
He was then named an All-Star.
The Mets were on top of the world.
Nothing seemed like it could go wrong.
They were 45-24, 652 winning percentage.
I get chills just thinking and reminiscing about this.
Four and a half games up in the National Leagues.
Four games up in the Wild Card.
Everything was great.
And then it flipped on a dime and everything changed.
38-55 since that year.
That is a 409 winning percentage.
They wound up 13 games out of the division
and did not make the Wild Card.
Instead, the Cincinnati Reds did
because of tiebreakers, that being head-to-head matchup.
Overall, they were 83-79, just over 500.
And of course, 13 out in the NLEs
and did not make the playoffs
because of that tie with the Reds.
Now, when you look at David Stearns' tenure overall,
it says 2025 season, but that is David Stearns' tenure.
Before the 13th of last season,
the New York Mets combined,
that is 2024 and the first half of 2025,
before that magical date,
in the regular season, a 134-97 team.
That is a 580 winning percentage.
And of course, they made the NLCS
just two games away from the World Series in 2024.
After that mark, which includes all of this year,
they are 74-106, a 411 winning percentage
with no playoff appearances,
meaning David Stearns,
as president of baseball operations overall,
is a 208 and 203 GM.
That is a 506 winning percentage
with, of course, one NLCS appearance and nothing else.
At before that 13th of June,
they were the second best team in baseball as well,
just half a game out of Detroit
for the best team in all of the major leagues,
best in the National League.
It was amazing, everything was great,
but it has been this way historically as well,
where June, again, is just where Mets seasons end.
They simply end in June.
It's not in September when they make a playoff race.
It's not in August.
It's not at the trade deadline.
Every single season ends in June.
And as you could tell,
that's their worst month historically,
a 467 winning percentage.
I know August is slightly worse,
but come on, let's be real.
June is where every season just flips and ends.
2025 and now 2026, the perfect examples.
June, a 370 winning percentage,
almost one-upping that pathetic month of April.
And you look at May, the Mets were somewhat in it.
I wouldn't say they were completely in it,
but there definitely were hopes
that the Mets could end up turning this around,
make the postseason.
They have a super talented roster after all.
But of course, June happened.
And the funny thing is,
they were hovering for most of the month.
We'll dive into that later with a game-by-game log.
They were hovering,
and then this most recent two-week stretch
is where everything ended,
and there goes the season.
Now, the hitting stats,
when you look at every single player specifically,
this proves it as well.
The hitters are doing significantly worse
in the month of June compared to overall.
If it's green, that means that specific player
in that specific statistic
did better in the month of June
than they have all season.
Red means the opposite.
They are worse in June than they have all season.
32 out of 52 of these boxes are red,
meaning 62% of these players and statistics
have had worse in the month of June
than they have throughout their entire 2026 season.
And a lot of these guys are having career worse
or at least really bad seasons.
Mark Vientos not having a good year.
Marcus Simeon arguably a career worse.
Brett Beatty's having a bad year.
You can go right down the list.
Ronnie Mauricio as well.
And look at the red.
These are your typical culprits as well all season.
Mark Vientos has not been able to get it done all year.
Every single one of his stats are red.
Marcus Simeon has been a disappointment.
Three out of four of them are red.
Yeah, Boveshet has been a disappointment
for most of the year,
but we all know he had a really hot June.
Brett Beatty's been a disaster all year.
All four of those are red.
Francisco Alvarez has had some moments.
Three out of four of those are red.
Francisco Lindor, with three of those being red,
he's had a bad year.
Jared Young as well with three of them being red.
And I personally like Young.
Ronnie Mauricio, all of them being red.
It is a disaster on the hitting front
and not much better on the pitching side of things.
This is a total of 48 out of 91 boxes being red.
That is 53% for a total of 80 out of 143.
55.9, 56% of players with a specific statistic
are worse in the month of June
than they have throughout the entire season.
Freddie Peralta exemplifies this like crazy.
Same with Kodai Senga.
There are a lot of guys.
Waskar Brazoban, honestly.
Austin Warren is a great example.
Austin Warren entering the month
was one of the best relievers in all of baseball,
let alone the New York Mets,
and then completely imploded in the month of June.
None of this has worked out.
It is a historically cursed month for the New York Mets.
So let's take a look at that aforementioned game log.
As I mentioned, they were kind of hovering
throughout the first couple series.
They had four three-game sets,
including two of them out on the West Coast.
Split that West Coast, they were 500 at 3-3.
Then 3-3 on that homestand.
Impressive wins.
They took two out of three
against one of the best teams in baseball
in the Atlanta Braves.
Through these set of games, these 12 games,
they were 6-6, they were 500.
Then they entered this pivotal stretch
where they were playing the Phillies, the Cubs,
and then the Phillies again.
A chance, and I made a video on this,
how the Mets could indeed make the postseason
based on that one stretch.
They can make up significant ground
by beating up on the Phillies and the Cubs
and then the Phillies again,
but they simply did not do that.
This was the start of now five consecutive series losses,
starting out in Cincinnati.
For a team that's average, I would say,
they lost two out of three.
And then they went over to Citizens Bank Park,
lost two out of three then.
Swept in a four-game series at home against the Cubs.
Then the Mets fired manager Carlos Mendoza,
interim manager Andy Green took over.
And then they lost another two out of three,
this time at home against the Phillies,
and now went up to Canada
and lost two out of three against the Blue Jays
before an off day today.
This second half of June has a winning percentage of 267.
Yuck, let's go back to April.
And as you could tell,
that's just about the same as the entire month of April.
Keep in mind, in April, they had a 12-game losing streak.
And now we are making comparisons
for the back end of June as April.
This month is cursed.
There's no other way to put it.
So you know what time it is?
It's Judas Decisions time.
Look, I don't know much about the World Cup,
but I do know one thing,
and that is prize picks allows you to pick
basically anything you want.
Lionel Messi, he is a guy that I know,
and you can basically pick anything you want.
It's not just goals,
and it could be any matchup you want.
Again, I don't know much about soccer,
but these seem like two relatively random countries.
Norway, I know Brazil has been a historically good team
in the World Cup,
but you can pick on anything on them.
You got passes attempted,
you had attempted dribbles,
and this is in a very specific game.
In fact, they go a couple of days in advance.
The US men's national team doesn't play until Monday,
and you can already pick on a whole bunch of things
for them and for their opponent Belgium,
and of course goalie saves as well.
It's all awesome and only on prize picks.

Let me know what you think.
How bad for the New York Mets is the month of June really?
And do you think it is historically their worst month?
I brought you all the statistics.
I told you about 2025 and 2026.
Just give me all your thoughts down below,
but unfortunately,
that's all the time I have for you in today's video.
Thank you so much for watching and let's go Mets.
