AI GeneratedLorena shares a detailed update on her kitchen, focusing on a DIY coffee bar project and a comprehensive tour of her home's kitchen design. She highlights the installation of custom cedar floating shelves and discusses the specific finishes, layout choices, and non-toxic cookware she integrated into her space to create a warm, functional, and aesthetic environment.
Hi friends, welcome back to my channel! If you're new here, hello! My name is Lorena.
Today's video will be all things kitchen. We have a fun update in our coffee bar area
and some decorating to do in there. And then I'm going to do a full kitchen tour of all
of the decor and the design and finishes we chose when we built. So if you are maybe looking
to renovate your kitchen, designing one, or just wanting some simple kitchen decor ideas,
I hope you find some inspiration and enjoy. We are finally adding floating shelves to
our bar and coffee station area and it ended up making such a difference and a beautiful
impact to this space. The first thing we did was get some cedar wood and cut it into the
two pieces we needed for the shelves. Each shelf is about 45 inches long, 12 inches
deep, and almost 2 inches thick. And they are the perfect size we needed for the space.
After they were cut, David sanded them down and then sealed them with a clear sealant.
And that just brought out the natural finish of the cedar wood. So you can see some spots
are a bit lighter than others but once they're up on the wall, you can't really notice much
of a difference in the color. And after we let them dry, we added these brass gallery
rails that I got from Etsy. They just give the perfect finishing touch to the shelves.
They are unlacquered brass so they're going to patina and age beautifully over time. We
needed three posts and two rails for each shelf. But there are many different sizes
of rails you can order and however many posts you need to give any shelf you have in your
home, just a little extra touch of elegance and character. And they were pretty easy to
drill the holes and attach them to the wood and just look so beautiful. And to be able
to attach the shelves to the wall, David used floating shelf brackets so he needed to drill
holes and drill the rectangular part of the bracket to make them flush with the shelf
and so they can attach straight to the wall. After he did all that, he drilled the brackets
to the wall and they were ready to be installed and our project is about complete. We do have
someone coming to install a backsplash to this space soon so that will really complete
everything and hopefully it will look really nice. I'll share it when it's finished but
for now, the shelves are done and they look so pretty. And now we can add some decor.
I had removed everything but I just added back the decor I had for my summer coffee
station. I styled this in my summer decorate with me video. I had used some colorful flowers,
framed art, and my summer mugs to make this space feel bright and fun. And now for the
shelves, I'll be adding more neutral decor with a small touch of color. I'm starting
at the top with a frame from Hobby Lobby and a decorative vase next to it. And on the other
side, I'll be adding a vase with some greenery. The stems are from Amazon and I love how realistic
they look. They're mostly green with some brownish leaves so a perfect transitional
stem for a late summer look. And I only used one stem but they still look nice and full.
And on the lower shelf, I'm starting with adding some cocktail books. I love this one
because it's just a simple black and white cover. And then I got two of these art of
mixology books. One is classic cocktails and the other is a mocktails book. They will
be functional to use if we're hosting and making drinks but also just look really nice
styled in this space. And then on one side of the book, I'm placing a cream colored picture
and a vase. And then on the other side, I have some hand-painted colorful wine glasses
that were a gift from my bridal shower years ago. So they are meaningful decor, functional
if we want to drink from them, and I also really love the yellow and orange that tie
in the summer look I have for my coffee station. And then just placing this terracotta bowl
on top of the books to finish off. And now we'll move on to the full kitchen tour. Like
I said, I'll show you the decor and finishes that we chose. If you missed any of my summer
decorating videos, I'll link them down below. But everything that I have out is my summer
decor. And since we moved into our new home at the end of last year, I've only gotten
to decorate for spring and summer. So I'm super excited when I get to decorate for fall
and at Christmas time. But I will of course link everything that I have in the kitchen
down below for you guys as well. So let me show you all of the details. So we went with
a two colored look for the cabinets. The upper cabinets are white and the lowers and
island are a honey medium colored wood, which I really love how the wood color adds lots
of warmth to our kitchen. It's not too light or too dark and goes really well with the
lighter colored flooring that we have. And I love the white cabinets because they bring
in that clean and classic look as well, which I love. The cabinets do go all the way up
to the top of the ceiling. We have a slope on this side of the house, so they go all
the way up to the slope, which really draws your eye up and makes the kitchen look and
feel big and open. We did decide to do glass cabinets next to the hood vent, which I love
because I can display decor and glasses or dinnerware. And eventually we want to add
a hood vent cover. I think it will really complete our kitchen and feel even more our
style. Since we did a semi custom built home, we had a good starting point when designing
the kitchen, so it didn't feel super overwhelming. But at the same time, we did have the chance
to pick out a lot of it. So it was fun to be able to do so. We ended up extending the
island a few inches more on each side from the original plan. And although there's more
island space to the left, we centered the sink to the stove for a more symmetrical look
and the cabinets and drawers on each side of that mirror each other. And what was left
of cabinet space on the right, we decided to do this extra large cabinet for appliances.
So it goes all the way down to the countertop and since it's in the corner, it still looks
good with the symmetry of the other cabinets. On the island, we have the front cabinets,
which is great for extra storage space for any kitchen items, decor, pretty much anything.
The handles we added ourselves, which I'll share all of the cabinet and drawer hardware
in a bit, but I store a lot of my vases here and some everyday decor. I really love having
the extra space readily available in the kitchen. This space with the fridge is another custom
change where we went with a built-in look for this extra large fridge that fits pretty
much flush with the upper cabinets and the double oven next to it. We also added a drawer
underneath the ovens. Any extra space that we had, we decided just to add drawers and
we love having this lower one here. I store all of the oven safe cookware and glassware
and it's just really convenient to have. Another appliance upgrade we did and if you're designing
or remodeling a kitchen, I would totally recommend it and it's doing a built-in microwave on
the island. It's nice that it doesn't take up any counter space and it's kind of hidden
in this area. And again, we did an extra drawer underneath it and it's perfect for
all of Mila's cups and plates. She can easily open this drawer and grab things out of it,
so very kid-friendly. And for the microwave, I recently switched our plastic cover for
a glass one because I've been really trying to switch to mostly glass items and non-toxic
products in our kitchen, which another switch I've made and have for a while now is our
pots and pans from Careway. I'm partnering with Careway for this portion of today's video.
I've owned their pots and pans for a while now and recently added a few more of the smaller
versions in a beautiful cream color. They not only look great in any kitchen, but I
love knowing they're made with better-for-you materials for a healthier home. They don't
contain forever chemicals that are known to be harmful to our health, so it's great knowing
I'm cooking with quality pots and pans. If you've been wanting to switch to more non-toxic
items in your home, Careway kitchen products are a great way to start. They have non-stick
cookware, stainless steel pots and pans, along with bakeware and even food storage containers,
mixing bowls, and utensil sets, so lots of different options. If you're wanting to add
great quality and better-for-you kitchen items, I'll leave a link down below so you can check
out Careway. And it's great to have these drawers under the stove so I can store all
of my pots and pans. We decided to go with two extra-large drawers, and they're able
to fit a lot of my cookware. It's nice that I can organize them here and easily grab them
when I'm cooking, so I really love having these drawers. And next to the stove, we have
two long, slim drawers on each side. One of them is where I store cookie sheets, muffin
tins, and cutting boards, and then the other one on the opposite side stores spices, cooking
sprays, and oils, so really convenient to have in this area of the kitchen. For the
island and countertops, we went with a quartz called Solitaj, which is supposed to be a
lookalike stone to the very popular Taj Mahal quartzite. We wanted to go with quartz for
its durability, and of course it's a lot more affordable than quartzite, so it's a great
option if you're wanting to do a similar look to the Taj Mahal stone. It has lots of
warmth to it with subtle goldish veining, so it goes really well with the color of the
cabinets and finishes we have. We just ran it as the backsplash, and I think it gives
a very nice, clean look that's neutral and, like I said, adds lots of warmth to the kitchen.
The faucet and pot filler are from the brand Moen in a bronze gold, so they're more of
a brownish gold color that complement the quartz and color of the cabinets really well,
and they also go well with the hardware that we chose for all of the drawers and cabinet
doors. They're all from Amazon and something we installed ourselves. We added medium-sized
pools to most of the cabinet doors and to the standard-sized drawers, and then we have
some longer drawers that have the extra-long pools. We did do knobs on some of the lower
cabinets and the high-up ones as well, and then we did plated knobs on the glass cabinets,
which turned out so nice. The island pendants are also something we later added ourselves.
I really love the creamy white color of the fabric shade along with the brass accents
that they have. I think they go really well with our kitchen and are just the perfect
lighting to have in this space. And this arch for the entryway of the bar area is a custom
change that we did. This was originally just a pantry space that had a sliding door, and
we decided to open it up with an arch and add some cabinets in here to make it a bar
area and coffee station, and then we still have our pantry on this side. We got a custom
door installed after, and I love how this space turned out. Even though the original
plan had a huge pantry, we still have plenty of space here and more usable space for something
else rather than just the pantry. So we love it in here, we love this door, and now we
can use this space for many different things and are able to style it with decor too now
that we have the shelves. And to wrap up, here is a final look at my summer decor that
I had styled. I love these tall floral stems here on the island, and I just added a bowl
of artichokes next to it. I tried to incorporate some pops of color for the summer with some
fresh fruit, and these beautiful strawberry stems were one of my favorite items that I
used for my summer decor. And then on this other side, I just styled an open cookbook
and a faux herb plant, and these really beautiful glass jars will now be a staple piece for
my kitchen. But that is everything for today's video. I hope you guys enjoyed and got some
ideas for your kitchen and inspiration for decorating. If you are new, I would love for
you to subscribe for more decor videos. Thank you guys so much for watching, and I'll see
you soon on my next one!
