Hey, hey, hey, good morning. Well, we're starting our journey today from Duenas, is it Gary?
Duenas. He says it much better than me. Anyway, we arrived yesterday into Santander
and we've been traveling down south. We're heading towards the Murcia region where we live in Spain
and last night was a pretty good night's skip. If you haven't seen that video, that's the last video,
but we're heading down towards Albacete. We're not sure if we'll get that far because
it's about 500 kilometers, isn't it? It is from here, yeah, so we probably won't get all the way
there. Not unless we have a really good run and I feel okay. Gary's not feeling too well, are you
honey? Not really. He's feeling a bit crook and so we're just going to see how far we get today,
but that's the plan and we'll show you where we stop in the end. We don't know where it is yet,
but there's lots of options in that area. There's so many options and we're finding most of our options
on the app Search for Sights, if you guys have that one. Brilliant! Loads of different options,
loads of airs in Spain, but we'll show you as we go along. We'll catch you down the road.
Well, we're on the road towards Madrid at the moment and it's starting to get a little warmer,
but we weren't half a bit chilly this morning, were we? It was a bit chilly when we woke up,
I think it was seven degrees. Yeah, it was about seven degrees. We were, you know,
both of us were like, because he's been poorly. I don't need any more shots. He's doing all right
though and we're going to lunch in a little while. We're just driving along and see a ticket toll
on the other side of the road, so we are kind of expecting now there to be some tolls along here.
There is some tolls through Madrid though Gary, there always is. Yeah, I can't remember how much
it was. I think we spent 20 euros coming up, so let's see what the prices of the tolls are.
We've just come up to our first road toll. There's quite a few kiosks isn't there? Anywhere that you
can just get a card one. So you've got all the differences. You've got the card and then
we think these are like pre-paid ones. There's card and cash there.
There you go, follow this motor home, that'll do. I'm not sure, I don't know how much this is,
we'll see. He's gone before us. Or whether we're taking a ticket, I don't know.
Some of them have a set price, so you'll just, we kind of just have to wait and see.
They do the contactless look there they say. He's paying or they're paying with a credit card at
the front. Yeah, so we'll get the price here now. So the one in front of us is just waiting for a
receipt I think, but he's been waiting ages and the barrier's up. Oh, the lady's come and given
that. Okay, that's a slight shock, 15 euros 15. Okay, so 15 euros 15 cents is around,
yeah, not mega expensive, but you know these things do add up. Okay, we've just pulled over
at Asepsa haven't we? Yeah. And we've got about 300 kilometers to go to Albacete. We're toying
with whether we go that far or not, it just depends how you feel. Yeah, at the moment I'm
all right, but we do need to look at it again, perhaps not for a cup of tea and a couple of
hours after lunch. Yeah, right, talking about a cup of tea, I'm going to get the kettle on.
I quite fancy, I don't know if you guys have ever had this, egg and fried egg and baked beans with
some nice rolls that I've got. What do you think? Sounds delicious. I remember my dad used to make
at the roadside when we had a trailer tent, used to make fried egg and beans and honestly when
you're hungry or on the roadside, it's always a real winner. That's what I think I'm going to
make. So I found this little packet of bread rolls in Lidl's yesterday, one euro. That's not bad,
it's loads in there. So I'm just going to pop a couple on a baking sheet and pop them in the oven
for 10 minutes. So Gary has just shared some really interesting information with me. Tell
everyone what you've just read. So we've gone through or passed various speed signs and I wasn't
sure what they all meant, but basically a legal speed limit in Spain is a round white background
but with a red border. So if it's a 70 that's the legal speed limit. Now we passed a square one
on a blue background. Now that's actually a recommended speed limit, it's not by law
you have to do it. And then we passed one which was circular, a blue background circular speed
Now that's a minimum speed limit, you've got to be travelling more than that and that's on
certain bits of road that they want to keep rolling, want to keep moving. That's really
interesting, thank you. So I just said to Gary, okay so here's your lunch, but for the camera
I'm only putting two rolls on, we've got an extra roll there. Because we're trough, trough, trough, troughing.
No, we have got three rolls, but only two would fit on the plate, but you get 12 rolls in that
packet. For a euro, that's pretty good. For a euro, yeah. I've just warmed them up so they're nice and warm.
Cut a little bit of butter up, egg and beans, cup of tea, doula's caps open.
Oh that was a winner, wasn't it? Oh was it ever. Are you feeling better after that? Oh yeah, I'm all
filled up one end and empty the other.
God Gary, he's only had a wee, he's making it sound like it's disgusting. I'm poorly.
It's obviously affecting something. Sorry about that, I hope you're not eating your dinner.
Anyway, we've had a lovely lunch and we're going to head off to Albacete and see how far we get off.
Yeah definitely. So we're just coming into the outskirts of Madrid now, you can see all the
skyscrapers in the centre. It's enormous. We're just going to enter the ring road in about 29
kilometres you said, wasn't it? It's the centre of town, but you can see it's 29 kilometres away. It just shows you how big it is because it looks really close.
And actually it says it's five kilometres till we turn somewhere else, so we're probably
entering the ring road there. But huge place and if you've ever been on the ring road in Madrid,
it can be really really spaghetti junction-ish. It's getting quite busy as we're hitting this
ring road and we've just got to make sure that you're in the right lane all the time because
there is an awful lot of lane changes in there. There is. But we are like, we drove through a
about, it takes you literally through the day. So little update, we've been having a little conflare
haven't we Gary? We have. And we've decided that we're going to try and stop at this new air that's
in a place called La Ginetta. And that's just north of Alba. So a little bit, a little bit less
than we wanted to go. Four spaces miles. It's a gated air. At the very least we'll show you how
good it is and apparently there's electric. So whenever there's free electric, oh you've got to
be there like. It wants to get free electric. You know we're not really fussed about the electric
because of the solar thankfully. But if we can get it, great. It means we can plug that in.
Just stopped for a quick cup of coffee on this roadway services. Well it's just a car park
really. And there's some olive trees in there. But I made a fatal error. So I am quite nosy
and I wanted to see what was inside like the olive that was purple. So I know that's when
they're ripe. So I squeezed it. Well I squeezed it all over myself by accident. See that, that is
what it looks like inside of the olive. I've squeezed it, it was all over my face a minute ago
and it tastes horrible to be honest. But Gary's very like chuckling like mad. He's had a right
old good laugh. He's feeling better isn't he? This t-shirt needed changing anyway in fairness.
So bearing in mind most of the fuel prices have been around about 150 at the moment for 156 even
for diesel. This is sitting at 132. It is a you have to pay in advance one, a self-service one.
Maybe that's why it's so cheap but that will suit us. Oh I've got to give him a little bit
of a panic there. I forgot we use the Revolut very often just to pay for all of the tolls and
all of the fuel. Saves us mucking about. You get a good exchange rate. I'm not sure what he's got
to do. Oh look he's got to go to that machine and pay in advance by the look of it. So
it's just riding up and 80 euros got us 58.9 litres. Great that's okay. We're just coming
out of here and we've realised there is an area to caravans here. Look Gary there's a motorhome
dump. There's a motorhome place. Water and everything. Where's the campsite? It's not,
it's just a dump. It's just a dump is it? Very useful. Look at that area to caravans.
This is just here? Just here, it's just a service area. That's brilliant isn't it? Yeah. Right so
I'll put the what three words up for this because not only is the fuel cheap but if you're desperate
you can get all your kit done. Okay this looks like it's it. Oh look there's only two in there
Gary. It's a little tight getting around these streets. I'm not sure we took the best streets.
It's very residential but there's two motorhomes in there. It's open. I don't know what time it
locks up. Does it lock up? It's very tight isn't it? Area de servicios para autocaravans.
You're very, oh god that is tight. Okay so there's a couple on here. It's a massive car park though.
Yeah it's huge. Now we're not sure if we're supposed to just stay in the bays.
They're all Spanish and French aren't they? I think this is supposed to be it. Oh look you've
got some electric sockets. We're going to reverse in on the end pitch. We're hanging over the edge
but you know I'm not being funny. It's a massive car park and also in about 10-15 minutes walk
we saw down there. Yeah it's a Buffet Libre. Do you know what that is? All you can eat buffet Gary.
So there's apparently this really nice restaurant and it does an all you can eat
like Spanish food. So we're going to go to that in a bit aren't we? That's what we're going to do
for dinner. Yep. We need to stretch our legs first don't we? It looks like a little walkway.
Let's go look at the bubble and see if we need the ramps. Okay. Yeah the guy next to us is on
chocks babes. Do you think, what are you thinking? I'm thinking just one ramp on my corner.
All right. We'll put you down like you like to be. Yeah because the motorhome's a little bit
wonky. It is wonky woo. Oh I love it. Big Spanish flag flying. I'm a big pro fly your flag so you
know Union Jacks everything. I love it. I love it. Why not? The Americans do it all the time.
There we are. We're hanging out a little bit. Bursting out of our clothes as usual but look
how massive the car park is. It's enormous isn't it? And we did say if it was full we would literally
just pull up and park somewhere like over there. We don't need the electric but it is free I believe.
So let's have a quick look. There you go see. Look there's a couple of sockets.
Yeah everyone's got the electric plugged in just there and I think it's free. I mean that's crazy
generous isn't it? Oh god old nosy bonk here. I was like oh what's this and then I walked in here
there's a couple of urinals. Thank god nobody's there. There is a building so I'm assuming these
are the toilets or something. What's number one? Is it open? Let's see. Oh it's locked so I don't
know if this opens or something. Let me see if number two opens. I've tried number one it's
locked. Number three has the urinals. What's this? Oh that's locked so I don't know if that's supposed
to be a toilet for everyone. But oh my god let me go in then. I won't be using this.
What's in it? Oh right okay. So I think it is. Oh donation please. Okay so donation please.
There's a bed here for the night. Do you know what? I think this. Oh it's a big shower area.
Look at that. Okay so this is obviously for people that I think need a bed for the night.
What a lovely idea. I don't know if this is where you put the donations.
Is that the? Where do you put the donation? I wouldn't think it's that.
Uh donation please. Where though? I would definitely give a donation but I don't know
where you give it. Gary's plugged us in. Any joy? Okay um so there's the main highway.
Oh it's not too bad at all really. You can hear it a bit but not really in the van I don't think.
I think the electric's working isn't it? Did you get it sussed? I have got it sussed. It's all working
yeah and all the all the points are all good. They're all sort of like new posts so it's great.
So I've just been to the restrooms and there is a it's a really weird situation
because it's got donation written on it but I can't see anywhere to get a donation. Oh to put
the donation? Yeah no I don't know where where you put it and you wouldn't want to just leave
some money in there to be honest. There is a bed in there as well and urinals and showers.
So I don't know if it's for like if there was someone really homeless they're making sure
they've got a bed for the night and I think that's wonderful and I would like to leave a donation but
I don't know where to leave it. We're just heading out to dinner and I said to Gary I can't see a
grey or a black but he sussed it straight away. That you reckon's the black? That's the black
you lift that. Oh you lift that up okay. There's your grey there. Oh your grey's there in the corner
Oh right. You've got water there. Yeah I saw the water earlier but I couldn't suss that bit
but we're going to walk down towards the buffet now. So we're just having a little walk and Gary
said I do because it says on search for sites about a signs restriction doesn't it? Yeah. Now
we were like well you'd be like anyone could park here but it's not that is it? No no if you've got
an a-class that's sort of quite long there's no there's no space to swing around so you can get
through the gate because the gate's quite tight. Literally 10 minutes walk you've got the Buffet
Libre. Here's the restaurant looks nice doesn't it Gary? Okay so the buffet is open from one to four
o'clock so if you do want to get to the buffet you're going to have to get here before four
o'clock. The little restaurant is okay fairly comfortable and we took a seat and ordered some
croquettas. They were all right nothing to write home about. Then Gary's meal which was burger and
chips came out quite a bit before mine so he felt really uncomfortable. He doesn't like eating
like that he'd rather it all came out together. So there's music playing in the restaurant which is
why I'm voicing over to avoid a copyright strike. Then mine turns up and lo and behold I was right
disappointed. It was ham on egg and chips and it was 18 euros. Now it was crisps it weren't chips
and the eggs were okay but the meat was really plasticky. It wasn't very good ham on at all.
Gary didn't mind his he quite enjoyed it but I think my face says it all I was really disappointed
with mine. On the way out we noticed there was a cabinet where they had some knives for sale
we thought that was a bit strange but you're sorted if you want a knife. Okay results have been from
Yeah I wouldn't come back again. Never come back again. I don't like being ripped off so the bill
was 64 euros and they added on 150 for bread that we didn't have. We didn't even have any bread and
right it's not even that it's not the money it's the principle like so. You went back and got the
150 didn't you? Yeah. We always leave a tip right always always always always. I said to Gary don't
I will be furious if you leave a tip and the reason is I think I'm not 100% sure but I'm
wondering if we got treated differently because we're English. I don't know. I hope not.
You don't think we did. I don't think we did but either way there was no service. We saw the guy
when he took our orders and we never saw him again. End of. It was rubbish food. Gary didn't mind his
burger. You liked it. Burger was nice gotta say yeah. I basically had egg and crisps. I could
have done that in a van Gary. I bloody had eggs twice today now. So egg and crisps with some right
rough looking ham on it. The Iberico ham was not the usual quality you find. It wasn't. It wasn't.
They're taking the piss if you ask me Gary. They're taking the piss but the price of the buffet 15
euros 50. Right I'd risk it for that wouldn't you? Yes because you can pick and choose what you see
looks good. Yeah exactly. You could have just had some russian salads and a bit of bread
and some croquettes that would have been worth 50 50. But that slop in there that they just
served us up no thanks. I wouldn't come back here for dinner. No. The wine was all right though.
All right. Well good morning. So we survived the night didn't we Gary? Just. It was a little bit
noisy not just because of Snuffleupagus here. He was really snorting in the night. I was a bit
bunged up wasn't I? Yeah but the traffic noise is quite loud here isn't it? It's really loud because it's a
major road and it's only about 100 meters away as the crow flies and you hear everything. Yeah I
don't think it's helped by the fact that the pitch that we're in, the very end pitch, there is no
trees in the way blocking the sound. No no it's in direct line of sight between us and the road
whereas the other pitches they've got like a woodland in between them so yeah not the best
one at the end. But I mean it swings and roundabouts because it is slightly more private here. It is
So anyway would we stay here again? Yes. Now sometimes I'm a bit more sensitive to
sound. We couldn't sleep really anyway did we last night? Not really. And it might be because
you were not well. We were a bit full. We were a bit like oh that restaurant was a bit of a waste
of money. We were all like that. Well I was. You know we don't we don't want to be unfair to the
restaurant but at the end of the day we did feel like there was a bit of a I don't know it wasn't
worth the money for me. I agree and the fact that they brought the meals out at different times
which made me feel uncomfortable and then charged us for something we didn't even have. That annoyed
me. So if you do go in there check your bill. But also you know this place here is great. There is
a town. We didn't go into the town last night. We kind of wish we had. I think if we stay here
next time we'll definitely walk into the town. Well one other thing we have seemed to have sussed
is the electricity. It seems to come on a couple of times. So when we got here it was on. We don't
know the timing. We can't find anything written here can we? No. It could do with some signs
but it came on this morning. So I think they've probably got it on for a couple of hours in the
morning and a couple of hours in the evening. I couldn't tell you what timings but it was really
helpful. It was on this morning. So we popped the heating on just to take the chill off the edge
because it's the first week of November in Spain and the temperature was about six seven this
morning again. Better now though. I mean that's only like an hour ago. Yeah and it warms right up
doesn't it. Right well that's it for this road trip. We've had a great month. It's been fantastic
hasn't it. We've done so much and seen so many friends and family. It's been wonderful. Oh it's
been fabulous. We don't know what the next road trip's going to be yet do we? Not yet. Well but
