Six pieces, nine different outfits. This is the easiest way to refresh your summer wardrobe.
Welcome back to my channel. My name is Lydia and I am a style educator aiming to help you
maximize your wardrobe. I have done a lot of focus on those sort of key capsule pieces,
which have all kind of stemmed from my ebook. But something I also mention a lot is that
your wardrobe doesn't have to be entirely capsule wardrobe. And mine certainly isn't. It's sort of
about starting with those basics and then building on that to create something interesting. So I
thought it would be fun today to share some pieces that I think would be really useful in your
wardrobe. And they're not all staple pieces. One or two are. And the rest maybe have something a
little bit about them that make them feel modern or a bit more interesting. They're not really,
really trend led pieces, but they are things that aren't really a capsule wardrobe, but add interest
and detail to your summer outfit. I thought long and hard about these and how they can all
mix and match together and work really hard to create nine outfits, which I'll show you. So I've
got them all on the rail here and I'll start by talking you through my choices. And then I think
as the video unfolds and I wear them, you'll start to see why I've paired all of these together. If
you only buy six pieces to refresh your wardrobe, I feel like these would be a really great six that
you can easily mix with each other. So the first is this black strapless top. Now this is a ruched
one. I actually got this last year, so it's not all about current new pieces, but this is one of
those tops that I think will always come in handy. A bandeau, but it's just got a little bit more
detail with this ruching to it. There's a lot online at the moment that have some structure
to it, which is also great, but definitely the bandeau top is really useful for summer.
And I think I'll do tops first. The second is a halter vest top. Now this specifically, I think,
needs to be the halter to give it a bit more interest than just a very classic vest top,
especially with how we're mixing and matching it. I love the halter. I think it's such a flattering
shape, really easy to wear, but the vest just gives it a little bit more of a toned down feel.
Then the next top I've chosen is part of a co-ord, which is quite a key factor within these
six pieces because I wanted something that paired together perfectly. So the co-ord is the best way
to do that. This is from Dish in the sale at the moment, but I do think there might still be quite
a lot in stock, so worth checking out. But this nice co-ord, again, we've got a bit of ruching
detail. It's asymmetric off the shoulder, so it's a really nice top. It's dressier than our halter
neck and slightly different to the bandeau because it's got a bit of a sleeve to it.
So I wanted three that created a different vibe and a different feel. And then onto bottoms,
I have the matching skirt. So again, this has a ruched detail. I picked all neutral colors,
so went for this beigey, sandy tone of the skirt with black and white because all three mix and
really well together. So this very, very, very easy to style with lots of things,
but it looks great as a co-ord. I've then gone for some plain black linen shorts,
and these are specifically a bit more of a tailored style, which add a bit of smartness
to your wardrobe, but still obviously very summer appropriate. These are Bermuda-ish,
but you can go for any kind of shorts if you want. I also think you can easily make substitutes for
all of this. You can probably find things that you can use in your wardrobe that you already
have. For example, a black linen skirt would be quite versatile within this too. And then finally,
I have added in some white balloon trousers. As I said, I did not want this video to be capsule
pieces. I wanted it to be things that are very wearable, but also modern, interesting, contemporary.
And the balloon trousers for me are such a go-to. I'm kind of addicted. I just bought two pairs
yesterday because they're so comfortable. They're basically like a jogging pant, but
give a bit more of a vibe than that. So I've included these within it, and you'll see how
they work really nicely with the other outfits. This dress, by the way, I believe it's sold out
from Zara. Such a good buy. And some old COS jewelry, old mango sandals. This outfit isn't
part of the video, but I think it just shows that you can buy those interesting pieces and they
still stay pretty current. I mean, this necklace I think I maybe got two years ago, the sandals a
couple of years ago. So you can add that interest whilst it's still being very wearable. So let's
get into our mixing and matching. Starting with the most obvious choice, the co-ord set. I think
an easy linen co-ord belongs in everyone's wardrobe. I've styled it in a bit of a smart,
casual way, just with this raffia clutch. This is a really nice holiday one, but also in the
summer, daytime, really easy with some flat sandals and some black sunglasses. And what is great about
this is it looks great with black like I'm wearing here, but you can also throw it on with brown
accessories like this. I've got this woven bag here, a little bit more of a dress down look with
woven brown slingbacks too. So it softens really nicely against the brown. You could also wear this
with white, also things like silver and gold. You could dress it up in the evening with some gold
heels and a gold clutch. So really, really versatile and I think just brings some interest
because of the shape. So staying with the top as our focus, I think I'm better holding the mic for
this top because it drags the top down a little bit. So sticking with the top, I've added in our
poplin trousers, our balloon trousers now. Again, this is all about creating the interesting, modern
shape. This is almost like an elevated take on the capsule wardrobe. I've paired it with some simple
suede heels, matching suede bag, some chunky jewelry, and I just absolutely love this entire
look. And definitely one of those you could dress up and down. You could do the exact same with a
more casual bag and some flat sandals. And I think these colors pair so nicely together.
And then of course we have the top with our black shorts. And there's a quality with all of these
pieces, which I think is a reason they all work together, but it's another reason I think they
are so versatile. And that is because they can really cross the boundaries between smart and
casual. So for example, these shorts, they're linen, but because they're tailored, they feel a bit
smarter. So they've got that hybrid. Again, same with the top. It's a linen, so it feels very kind
of summery, light, airy, but the shape of it just gives it something different. So depending on how
you style it, you could go for a little heel like this with some bold jewelry. Then it looks more
dressed up, but equally strip it back and just have some flat sandals with it. And it makes a
really nice, easy daytime look. Okay. So sticking with the shorts and I've done more casual outfit
with the halter top. And I think this demonstrates why the halter is important because it just adds
a little bit of character to a simple outfit. So we've got the slightly smarter, but relaxed shorts
that I said, and the same criteria falls within this top. The halter just elevates it whilst it's
still being a casual vest top. So you can just wear it in the daytime. This is kind of my go-to
day-to-day look. Just some sandals, a nice bag, throw on some sunglasses and you are good to go.
I do just want to show though, how you can completely dress this up. And another reason
why I chose these pieces. Again, another really easy dress up, dress down scenario with the top
and these shorts. So I've dressed it up with this statement necklace from Brewalk. My pearl clutch
to kind of go with the pearl theme. And this is from Simkai and then just some vinyl clear heels,
but again, really nice look. And I feel like all of these pieces dedicate themselves really nicely
to a hand luggage holiday as well. You can throw all of these pieces, make them very easy to mix
and match together, dress up, dress down. So this is how I would do this dressed up, but equally
we could just do something like this in the daytime, flat sandals, a big slouchy bag if you
wanted to and you are good to go. This is just such an easy daytime look. You know what, even I'm
pleasantly surprised by how this video has turned out. I knew these pieces would all work really
nicely together, but I feel like they turned out even better than I thought, which I'm really,
really pleased about. So obviously this top with the dish skirt now perfectly paired together,
any sort of black bandeau top would do as I said, but I do think it's nice to have
a bit of something to it, whether that's some structure or some ruching like this. I've just
paired it in a bit more of a sort of dressier daytime look, but flat sandals, raffia bag with
some great jewelry. Again, there's so much interest added with the jewelry because the pieces
themselves are plain, but you've still got the interest within the shape. So another very, very
easy pairing. Now look, I really do appreciate that the balloon trousers are not for everyone,
and that's fair enough, but honestly, I don't care. I love them so much. To me, these are
the instant update for your wardrobe. You can have a wardrobe full of more classic pieces,
and then it's so nice to just modernize that with one piece and just know that you don't have to buy
loads of different trend pieces, but just this one piece will be that thing that elevates all
your outfits and updates them and just makes them feel a little bit more trend led, which I don't
think there's anything wrong with. And it just shows how you can take a top like this and pair
it with more classic pieces like the tailored shorts and then create something totally different
with the poplin balloon trousers. So I think that's why it's a really nice mix up to have,
especially against a skirt as well. A more simple plain skirt is a bit more of a classic piece that
I modernize with accessories, but actually you can just let the trousers really do the talking
if you want to and pair it with classic accessories. I've actually gone for the jelly
shoes because I feel like they're quite cool. But again, it all depends on the styling. You
dress this up, dress this down, put a heel with this, keep it nice and simple. It's not too over
the top because essentially it's just a black top with some white trousers. But again, it's just
another example of how choosing the right pieces can mix and match really easily together. And
switching it up with the halter top with the trousers, such a nice pairing together. And I
really thought through the colors in this whole video. I had everything lined up on my floor and
that is a thought that goes into all my videos. I really do consider it all to make it as useful
as possible to people. So I'm not just kind of winging it and pulling anything out my wardrobe.
Everything has been really, really thoroughly thought through. I do this with my mum. We're
here together in my studio filming room, laying everything out, switching in and out pieces. I
originally had a black halter top, which would probably work, but actually we decided to go for
the lighter trousers and the light top, keeping it very summery, making it very interchangeable.
So there's a reason I've thought through all of these colors, all of these shapes and styles.
And I think it has just kind of come together as much as I wanted it to. So yeah, another really
easy look. I've paired it with beige, but again, this is one of those you could dress up in the
evening, do the scarf around the waist if you want to, or just do some really, really bold jewelry.
And again, the trousers do the talking. It's just that one easy switch out for your wardrobe.
Okay, so if you are going for a fun night out, then you would just dress it up like this.
And I think it proves that you don't need to have loads of evening clothes and day clothes.
You can really intertwine the two as long as you have the right accessories. So it's not about buying
a wardrobe full of clothes, but more about being selective with the ones you choose in order to get
the most out of them. And I think these particular pieces are extremely versatile. I'd realized I'd
not done any gold jewelry. So for my final outfit, I've added in a bit of gold jewelry because both
can work with this. Again, I've kind of chosen these pieces for that versatility. So most jewelry
shades go with everything I've shown today. So I've popped these big gold earrings, big bangle,
my little pearl clutch again. I thought this would be a nice one to sort of demonstrate how you could
do this on holiday as your sort of holiday evening dressed up look. But again, in the daytime, swap
out the accessories, the sandals for some flat ones, for some ballet flats. It's just really
versatile. I think of anything, the outfit lends itself better to daytime, but I love taking those
kind of daytime outfits and then making them work a bit more for different occasions, like a holiday,
like an evening. So that's all the looks. And I know this was six pieces with nine looks. And
technically, yes, there are nine ways for all those items to go together. But I actually think the
options for creating looks are really endless with these pieces, depending on how you style them. And
you can add other pieces in things like jumpers, knitwear, cardigans, jackets, different sort of
layering to create more interest and more outfits. And the same with jewelry and the ways you style
it. I really could have gone on and on with each one of these outfits, styling it in different ways.
So I think that really proves its versatility and flexibility. So what I would suggest is going into
your wardrobe, seeing if you've got any of these pieces that would create a similar look. For
example, you might not love the balloon trousers, but you might have a pair of really nice, loose,
white pants that would create a similar effect. So go and have a look in your wardrobe first,
see and pull out anything you think would create a similar vibe. And then maybe you could shop one or
two of these pieces from the video, depending on which ones you're missing, because I do think it's
such a useful group to have together. So I hope you've enjoyed this video. I thought it was
something a little bit fun and different, which I'm always trying to do. Please subscribe before
