The video features a home office makeover focused on restyling bookshelves for a bright, cheerful summer look. The creator shares her \"maximalist\" approach to decorating, utilizing a lemon-themed color palette and various accessories to create a sophisticated yet cozy workspace.
Well, hello, thank you guys for joining me.
Today's gonna be a fun video.
It is all about reworking, restyling
some bookshelves here in my office.
It's a full room decorate with me, so it should be fun.
And if you followed along last week,
what I decided to do was take one of these units
out of here.
I moved it on out into the family room
because in my mind, I'm prepping and getting ready for fall.
And I really feel like that bookshelf
is gonna be a fun focal point in that area.
Best decision ever, I'm absolutely loving it.
I have moved these bookshelves in
and now I'm gonna style this room
in a bright, fun, cheerful look for summer.
And I probably won't be touching this room till fall.
So anyway, I hope you guys enjoy.
Let's get into it.
All right, so I'm gonna take you down.
I'm gonna give you my thoughts
and then we're gonna lock in
and we're gonna tackle these shelves.
I don't know about you guys,
but shelves are such a challenge for me
as far as balance and symmetry goes.
I always use too many like small tchotchkes
and I'm now learning that sometimes bigger pieces,
less of them is probably the way to go.
But you all know I'm a maximalist,
so you know I'm gonna pack it in.
But I'm gonna try to scale back just a bit today, sort of.
I don't know, we'll see.
I always say that with good intentions in my head,
but the maximalist in me always comes out.
It just does, it's just me.
Okay, so for the sake of time,
I have moved these shelves together.
You may remember there was a center one
and the bookshelves filled the span of this wall.
And this is what I was trying to share with you guys.
I see the white space on either side.
I really feel like it feels a little bit more open in here.
So anyway, I put a little plant here
because I need to get white cords
and I'm just kind of concealing that, if you will.
I did add a little spotlight
and I do think it looks rather cute on the riser
with the fern and a little backlighting.
Okay, so now moving right here is my electric fireplace
and I need your help deciding
whether to keep these lamps or bring in some slimmer ones.
And so we're gonna do that.
And then I've got a new desk that's gonna go here
and I need your help deciding which chair to keep in here.
I'm also bringing in a bench and some pillows.
Now I cleaned these shelves just the other day,
but with darker furniture, it holds dust very easily.
The perfectionist in me,
let's make it pretty for all the peeps.
So that's what I'm gonna do.
Okay, so I'm gonna start up top
and I've got some photo book boxes.
I have this cute little topiary in a pot
and I have this little picture
that I got from Hobby Lobby years ago.
It says tulips and an architectural piece.
And I'm gonna place these up top.
🎵
I like how I angled it, and then I like how I took the little architectural piece.
I feel like it sort of balances out each side, and the wall art is like the focal point.
So now, let's style this side.
Okay, so right there, I'm going to go in with these coffee table books, and we'll see what else I add.
🎵
Since I have an architectural piece over there, I'm bringing in yet another one.
So, I'm going to add this to the top of the book.
🎵
I'm going to add this face with some faux flowers from Amazon.
🎵
Okay, so normally, I would sort of tuck the florals up a little bit.
I didn't really know this, but if you're using faux florals, you're really supposed to let them drape naturally like they would in nature.
It gives this space a more natural look and feel, as opposed to having them sort of tucked up.
Okay, so if I was to tuck this up and back, I don't think it looks as good.
I think it looks more natural when you let it drape.
So, let's move on.
🎵
This is new for the styling of these shelves.
It's really everything I've had.
Oh, wait, I take that back.
The vases were a recent purchase at Hobby Lobby on clearance for under $20, the vases.
But that's it.
Because I'm using what I have, I went down to my storage room, and I'm like, lemons!
Lemons are happy and cheery, and they will look great in my office display.
So, I found a set of these on Amazon like a few years ago.
I'm not sure if they're available.
If they are, I will be sure to link them.
It's just a canvas piece, but I love the black, the pop of yellow, the pop of green.
Need I say more?
And as I always say, let there be light.
And so, I have this little cute light for nighttime, early morning atmosphere.
And then, I always like to add a rustic piece.
So, this goes to a cloche, but I'm just using it as a decorative detail at the bottom.
This is from Walmart, and this is from Walmart.
I'll link those.
And then, boom.
You'll see what I do.
Let's throw it together.
You guys can tell that angling things on these book units is the name of the game.
So, because we have a canvas piece angled right there, we're going to then come over here and angle this companion piece right there.
So, we have that base up there.
I have the exact same base, and we're going to bring it right there diagonally.
I want to point out yet another thing.
So, because the greenery on this side is dangling down, I wanted to mimic that over here, having it break down naturally.
Okay, this bench is driving me nuts.
I'm going to move that into place, and then we're going to finish styling the shelves.
Actually, because I am a maximalist, I usually like to put a little something in my corners.
But, as I always say, let there be light.
So, watch what I'm going to do.
Remember this little end table I put in my kitchen?
These work perfect for cozy corners.
Right there in the corner, I've got this lantern from Walmart.
I'm going to put one on the top, one on the bottom.
I thought these would be fun down below.
And then another lantern.
You know, and I just love that coziness it adds to the corner.
So, if I'm working in here at my desk, say on a cloudy day or a rainy day, I've got ambiance surrounding me.
Now, I want to add a little sophistication, and my idea of that is by adding two matching mirrors right here.
And I got these at Walmart.
By the way, the reflection you're going to see is my desk with all the decor on it.
So, my apologies.
I just don't want to move my desk way over there and have to drag it way back in.
So, just bear with me.
So, I hope you guys can see when you add a reflective property, it kind of opens the space.
It brings in more light and a tiny bit of sophistication in my opinion.
But now, I'm going to do something a little unconventional.
So, I have this wreath from Amazon, and I was looking for some sort of a hook I could use to put on my mirror.
And yes, I know I could use a command strip, but sometimes if you leave those on long enough, they will leave like a residue, and it's so hard to get off.
So, I didn't want to do that.
So, I went to my plate cabinet, and I found a plate holder.
And I bent it, and so this, see this right here, this is going to hook on to the back of my mirror.
And this is going to hold my wreath.
I know, crazy, but it works.
See, I told you, it works.
So, because I have a lemon wreath there, I'm just going to go in with this little lemon topiary.
And I got this pretty candle from Walmart.
Set them right there.
So, next, I'm bringing in a green and white striped plate and a lemon plate.
What a fun combination.
So, down on that shelf, I'm going to be angling this cute little scalloped basket tray from Amazon.
And I have this interesting riser, a boxwood wreath, boom, an LED candle, and a topper, and this little wire cloche top.
Boom.
Loving it so far.
So, with the bottom shelves, I'm just going to throw it together and put it to music.
So, down there, let me show you what I'm going to do.
Okay, so right here, I have this little dough bowl and some just greenery picks.
I just kind of threw them in there like that.
Now, I have a plate holder.
I'm going to put that right there.
Okay, so right there, I have my electric fireplace.
I have two home house, like French country, cottagey looking lamps.
And I love them, but I almost feel like I need a more slender lamp and something that's black to kind of make it feel a little bit more sophisticated.
So, I was thinking, so do you guys remember when I showed these buffet lamps that I found on Amazon?
As a refresher, I used these to do a blooming lamp.
I was thinking I could take these lamps and put them in place of those.
So, I'm going to plug one in and let's compare and contrast.
You tell me in the comments which lamp you think looks better.
Now, which one I like? Which one do you like?
Okay, me personally, this one's slightly taller, more elevated, slender.
The black sort of blends with all the black I have going on in here, whereas the white one sort of sticks out like a sore thumb.
Although, I do like it for summer, it's lighter, it's brighter, but the shade is kind of big.
I don't know, my eyes keep going to that one.
And then, I'm trying to decide between two chairs.
So, I have a little bit of an issue.
I want to use the big black leather chair.
I believe we got that from Haverty's or Bassett Furniture back many, many years ago, but it is such a good quality chair.
It's so comfortable. I love sitting in it, but I also love my club chair.
Okay, here's my dilemma.
The black chair comes up tall, so it kind of covers the decor, which just makes my eyes so happy.
It's very bright and cheery in here, and I did bring in the club chair, which is super, super comfortable.
I like how it looks with the desk, but if I'm going for a more sophisticated look, the black chair, to me, wins all day long.
You guys let me know in the comments which one you like better.
Let me drag it in.
I love this look. That chair is really comfortable.
I could put a rug in here. I don't know. I like it without a rug.
It just feels very open and airy, super easy to clean with the vacuum.
I don't know. Let me go get that big black office chair, and let's see what we think.
So, I put a little decorative basket right there, and then brought my laptop in, and I am ready to go, ready to edit.
And then, spinning you right here, this is the ladder that goes to the library unit.
And then, I added these two pictures from Hobby Lobby and this little LED lamp, but I need to charge it.
I don't know why we let go.
I'm trying to find a little closure.
I guess we just need some time.
But if you want to come on over, baby, that's all right.
But you hate me if I hold you closer, if only for another night.
I'm trying, baby, but I just can't forget you.
Can't stop, no, can't stop overnight.
Can't stop when your heart is on the line.
Can't stop, no, can't stop overnight.
Can't stop when your heart is on the line.
It's automatic, waking up beside you like it's a habit.
Don't know how it happened, oh yeah.
You do this every time, it's just so classic.
All right, friends, well, that will wrap up my video for today.
