In today's edition of What the Hell Did I Just Read?,
CBS Sportsline just put out an article where they said Caleb Williams was one of the most
disappointing draft picks since 2020. And in fairness, the writer did come out and say,
this is going to be controversial. No, it's just dumb. A ridiculous premise,
because the reasoning is, hey, well, how could Caleb Williams be considered good when he's been
outplayed by Drake May and Jaden Daniels, which, again, that's sort of subjective.
That's up for debate. Now, there are people, obviously, Drake May did get his team to the
Super Bowl, or he was on a team that reached the Super Bowl. Had Bo Nix been healthy, who knows?
And Jaden Daniels was tremendous during his rookie season. The problem is, and honestly,
I don't have any, listen, for anybody who is a fan of the Patriots, or the Commanders,
or the Broncos, and you think that your quarterback is the best in the NFL, that's
great. I'm happy for you. Every one of those teams should be happy with the quarterback that
they selected, except for you, Minnesota. You do not get to be a part of this conversation.
But the idea that it's a disappointing pick, where do you think the Bears would be
had they drafted Drake May or Jaden Daniels? In fact, if Caleb Williams had had a tremendous
rookie season, who knows what would have happened? Because perhaps the butterfly effect
wouldn't have led Ben Johnson to being in Chicago to be there to get the most out of him.
So if your premise is he's not better than those two guys drafted after him, fine. I'm not willing
to engage that debate because we've got a lot of years to settle that. But to even suggest
that the Bears should be disappointed with that pick, it's intellectually dishonest.
It's one of those things, when you see in the media industry, when they start having layoffs,
and you see front-facing people, camera people, we miss those. But over the years, we've lost
editors. People have cut off editors or whatever. This is where an editor would have been very
useful for somebody to push back and be like, hey, maybe you should have a better take on this.
Maybe you should stop being all hot taking and inflammatory and just trying to make a
And again, it worked because I'm here talking about it. But still,
ridiculous premise. I'm sorry, Chicago, if I'm going to speak for you.
The Chicago Bears, nobody is disappointed with drafting Caleb Williams.
