business speaking out after they say a visit from Republican gubernatorial candidate Rick Jackson
smarked outrage. Fox 5's Annie Mapp is live in Midtown. Annie, walk us through what's happening.
Hi Eric, good evening. We've now spoken to two Metro Atlanta businesses who say
they have faced backlash just for who they let in through their door.
Republican candidate for governor Rick Jackson visited Salon Dollhouse in College Park
in late June. Being that he's not from the south side, he came, he seemed very comfortable.
Timothy Jackson owns the business. He says a member of the candidate's team reached out to him
asking if they could hold a Q&A event at his shop. It was question and answer. I mean,
it was open to the public, you know, and I mean, he didn't dodge any questions. He didn't
say, well, no, you can't ask me this. Timothy says he saw it as an opportunity to learn about
the man who could potentially become Georgia's next governor. And I thought it'd be good for
everybody in the community to shop because everything is so stereotypical these days with,
you know, this is a Trump supporter, he's this, he's that. I mean, when you had a chance to come
and see for yourself and you could ask them whatever you wanted to ask them. So, I mean,
for me, that speaks, like I said, that speaks volumes. The candidate did spark some controversy
after visiting brunch spot Toast on Lenox in Buckhead over a week ago. Photos his campaign
posted with the owner led to dozens of social media users making posts and comments accusing
the owner of supporting Jackson. Many going as far as to say the business should be boycotted.
I did not like the way that they handled that at Toast because she just offered a space.
She's not endorsing anybody. Timothy says he's also not backing any candidate.
I'm not Republican, I'm not Democrat, I'm not endorsing him, I'm not endorsing her.
And Timothy did say they also received some online pushback due to that decision. However,
he says it has not slowed down his business. Reporting live in Midtown, Annie Mapp, Fox 5 News.
All right, Annie, thanks so much.
