The production team and cast discuss the evolution of the latest Spider-Man film, highlighting the integration of new stunt technology, Tom Holland's physical performance, and the emotional depth of the characters. The film balances high-stakes IMAX action with a personal story about Peter Parker's identity, sacrifice, and the importance of community and friendship.
There's so many things about the action that excites me. When you think of this particular
character, he has a very distinct set of powers that are very practical when you think about it.
The acrobatics and the swinging has been done so well in so many movies.
The fun challenge was how do we do it a little different. Working with Peng Zhang to bring his
team on and coupling that with this incredible team here in London who brought really new
technology to allow us to do things that we've never done before. When you have all
that on top of a number one actor, Tom Holland, who can do so many things that our stunt people,
even that he does better than the stunt people, it really doesn't get much better than that.
It's so rare to have an actor who can give a killer performance, but then to also have
that actor be able to do some of the physical things that Tom can do is very extraordinary.
I think I've been playing this character for 10 years now and I think what was most exciting about
stepping back into the character was that it felt like something new. It felt like a new challenge,
it felt like something the audiences haven't seen before and I really hope that they love it as much
as we did making it. Returning to MJ was such a pleasure. I think something I was really excited
about was just, I don't know, expanding the character. What is this person like after
like five years? How much life has passed? What are her memories now? How much does not having
Peter a part of her memories affect who she is as a person? But it was really fun.
He made the ultimate sacrifice at the end of the last movie and he did that because he wanted to,
you know, not just save the world, but protect his friends. And then in this movie, the villain
is absolutely undoing every bit of that sacrifice that he's made in going after them and I think
what's so cool about what Destin has been able to achieve is that the movie feels bigger than
anything we've ever made before while maintaining the kind of like New York roots, this heartfelt
story between three, you know, of the bestest of friends. So I think that it's a real testament to
who Destin is as a filmmaker. We shot this movie in two aspect ratios. We shot in two, three, nine
for our scope theaters and we also shot specifically for IMAX and I, you know, I love the IMAX experience
and I think this movie in particular is made for the IMAX experience. There is, you know,
the IMAX frame, the IMAX size, the IMAX sound will give you an experience unlike anything else
and you will feel like you are standing on the edge of a skyscraper. You will feel the wind
blowing through your hair. You will hear the sound of the web vibrating as you're swinging
a couple hundred miles per hour through the city of New York and yeah, see it in IMAX,
see it on the biggest IMAX screen you can find. I hope they feel like that they've seen a movie
where the stakes have never been higher but they've never been more personal, you know,
like this movie is all about Peter Parker and I think it's, you know, a bold thing to do to make
a superhero movie about their secret identity rather than the hero himself. I think in many
ways, you know, Peter Parker feels like he could be any one of us. There's such a relatable nature
to him and a kind, sweet-hearted nature that we all love and he's always trying to do the right
thing even when it's like detrimental to himself. I don't know, he's just a character you can always
root for and he feels like a friend that you want to have and I think really it's his normalness
that makes him, I don't know, so special. I was introduced to Spider-Man through Tom's
portrayal of Peter Parker. He was like the Spider-Man I grew up with and I think it just
like really speaks to my generation and is such a, like they just do such a good job of like
world building and he's a character that is superhuman but also just feels like a teenager
at the same time. I think what we want fans to experience the most is just like the excitement
after waiting five whole years. It's gonna be crazy. It's a cautionary tale of the dangers of
living your life on your own and sometimes the bravest thing you can do is ask for help. So for
me, getting your friends and family together to build a community and go and enjoy this movie
in the theatre is kind of the perfect way to experience this movie.
That felt sick!
