Preparing to test one of the newest developments in remote control warfare.
Naval drones that can down airborne ones by launching interceptors.
Unmanned drone carrying boats eliminate the risk to naval crews
and also provide for a swifter reaction to threats that all happens automatically.
The container opens and the drone takes off in under a minute.
Ukraine amazed the world with its kamikaze sea drones in 2022, driving back the Russian navy.
Since then they've got more sophisticated.
The enemy developed ways of defending against the kamikaze boats,
so now our maritime missions are combined missions involving attack drones,
cover reconnaissance drones and unmanned drone launchers like these.
These tests are usually carried out at secret locations far from the sea
to avoid the risk of being targeted by the Russians.
The team members also prefer to remain anonymous.
On the Black Sea itself, unmanned drone launchers are just beginning to be deployed,
supplementing naval patrol boats like this one,
whose crew have been up all night shooting down Shaheds.
The captain welcomes the idea.
I suspect it will be pretty effective because it will allow us to deploy
interceptors further out to sea and reduce the number of their attack drones that reach the coast.
Russian drones fly in off the sea towards targets all over Ukraine.
These navy patrols have to defend both the coast and civilian shipping.
This is one of Ukraine's successes in the war.
Ships can sail along the corridor and deliver Ukrainian grain all over the world.
Since this footage was filmed, though, shipping companies have suspended operations at Ukraine's
Black Sea ports after Russia intensified its attacks, killing at least 21 seamen in the past
month. With the grain harvest underway, improving Ukraine's maritime defences
is now a matter of extreme urgency.
