A man shares his experience restoring a natural spring in the desert to provide water for wild horses and donkeys. Through the use of specialized cameras, including a \"hoof cam,\" he captures the peaceful behavior and physical resilience of the animals while reflecting on his personal mission to help wildlife and the importance of kindness.
Okay, so long story short
We're in the middle of the desert all these horses want water
This is a natural spring that starts up yonder hill and comes here and in a pipe and he gets plugged
And they had it sorely plugged so I unplugged it
I can see that fresh water is coming up and through right there. You can see the fresh pool water coming in
So this is where I end up in my last episode
Mommy and baby horse are in drinking and now they're gone
And shortly, they'll be replaced by
another group of horses
This horse is battle-scarred
Torn up, but beautiful. They're patiently waiting in the wings and now down they come
And I'm glad to see the water running
Actually goes all day and you'll see later on that I actually get a really cute group of donkeys
You'll see them here shortly
The hoof cam gives you a good idea as to the health of the horses by looking at their hoofs.
I like this shot
It's a peaceful scene
hot today, maybe
98 degrees
But these horses are adept to it. They
They fit right in
That's a handsome horse
Slices and scratches and heavy marks on the saddle of that horse. Beautiful face
on that beautiful black horse
That's just a really nice scene
Part of the reason why I set my cameras up so that I can capture images like this because
to me, it's just
wicked cool
To be able to in-edit look at this. Matter of fact, I'm sitting here in edit looking at this right now
It's very nice
Well, this group's leaving and the other group comes in I
I really appreciate how the
how the horses tend to
Take turns here at the watering hole. You'd think that there'd be more of a fight
But as soon as they check out the situation and make certain that everything's okay and me
Then they'll get drinking
Nice looking hoofs. Look at the way that one's just tilted up
Two of them tilted up. I know that has to do with their flight or
fight or flight
mechanisms that they have as
Soon as something comes that's threatening to them. They're they're able to
To spring out of there. They are very quick horses and
Big and powerful. I love them
They're great to watch
You know, I I fix these springs and I spend
several days a week out in the desert
looking different Springs and
trying to see if there's anything I can do to help the wildlife in any way shape or form and I
Asked myself why I wonder why it seems like I'm the only guy that I see out there
There's not a lot of people doing what I do
but I
guess
the reason is because
I'm an old man now, and there's there's a lot of things. I wish I'd have done in my life, but
Rather done them differently
But there's no going back it is what it is
and
the best I can do is
Do the best I can each day
and that's what I'm
attempting to do is
just
Do the best I can
Each day
Yeah, I think I think we could all
Appreciate that. I know that
I'm not the only one that's out doing nice stuff. Maybe I'm the only one out doing nice stuff
Showing it on YouTube
but there's other people and
Other people doing other things in their own homes and for their neighbors and for their friends and for their family. I
know
We're all doing the best we can right now
so
I'll wear it like a little badge of honor
When I do fix a spring and I do set up the cameras and the horses do come in
and I'm able to review it done in my studio and
Manipulate the camera angles and look at it different ways
It brings me great joy and I hope that I hope it brings you great joy, too
at least a little peace and
The ability to to see some terrain and
activities that
You normally wouldn't find
I'm making my episodes a little bit longer now because a
Big percentage of you like almost almost 90% watch my videos on a big-screen TV
So I'm gonna build some videos with a little longer format. This is one of them
just so that
so that you can enjoy watching the horses and
Feeling the peace and the scene
That horse has been beat up quite a bit. I
Love those manes, too
There's a lot of stories that go on about those manes
witches knots
fairy knots
elf knots
Legend says that the fairies and elves wander out at night
to find their favorite horse
And they twist their manes
to form tiny little stirrups and reins
So they can ride them on their magical adventures
I don't know, but they're interesting to look at and they do tell a tale
It's probably not
witches or fairies or elves
it's it's probably from living the way they live in the desert with the elements and the winds and
the fights and nips
But there are some pretty fairy knots on that horse
Yes
indeed
The horse is wandering in the background and in the foreground
Make a beautiful silhouette against a pretty blue sky
And that horse has a pretty long in the belly
And just like clockwork
more horses
Hello
The horses are very interested in my camera. I marvel at how shiny and
nice their coats look
and their hooves
They haven't anyone tending to them, they care for themselves
and I suppose
one degree
They care for each other, too
But the look so groomed
Impresses me. They just must be a magnificent animal to start with to look this good
naturally shiny
strong
curious
This is the horse that
Totally destroys the camera that he's sniffing on right there. You'll see in a while
Kind of funny
But they all seem to have to smell me. I believe they know my smell. I can't help but get my hands and
things on all the tape and camera equipment and posts and everything that I use to set the cameras up a
Lot of you know, but I'll let all of you know that I don't feed horses in the wild. I
Don't put out a salt lift for them or for anything
All I do is
try to provide
clean water through sources that are existing
that farmers and ranchers used to take care of 30 or 40 years ago, and then
The state and federal government stepped in and they decided that they'd take care of all these
They'd manage the wild horse herds and donkeys and
and they don't seem to be doing a very good job of keeping water for so
That's what I'm doing here, and I might not be making a big impact
But to these horses on this day I
did
So pretty look at those eyelashes
Would that I could just pet your snout
muzzle
fine fine fine looking animals
Had a tornado come through
Doesn't seem to bother the horse as much. I have one video where the
Dust devil comes through and chases them and 20 antelope off. It's pretty fantastic
Maybe I'll run that at the end of this show. Yeah, I will see if I can find it and put it on there
It's the same spring different day
pretty cool
Same spring different day. I
Just cracked myself up on that one
so
when I plug in the battery backups to my
360 max
Cameras
There's an exposed
USB-c cord that comes from and goes my battery backup and
if a horse gets too aggressive with
rubbing and playing with my
equipment up top and
scratching their neck and their jaw and
This one actually ended up breaking off the USB-c and
And the camera kept running for about another hour because because it still had power but
then it fell out and
And totally lost
Lost my regular view camera, which is okay. I always have the hoof cam
Now this horse spins right on around and I get some pretty good shot of it
Look at those nice hooves
tell you
Just running in the wild on the gravel and dirt that we have here is what
What keeps their hooves so neat trimmed?
Like sandpaper on them. Now this fella he he parked himself right here. I guess he's comfy like that
but
something spooks him
And off they run
Thanks for watching desert water
All right, well appreciate it if you'd like share and subscribe to help the old guy out quite a bit
If you ask me how I really feel the best things in life's for free
We are you either tie it down or let it be
Oh, but every time it goes to hell you figure out you might as well
Sit back
Might be the end for all we know remember let's be good to one another
