I didn't eat for three days, no smoothies, no protein shakes, no coffee with cream,
just plain old water. Now, before you think that this was some crazy extreme weight loss challenge,
that's not actually why I did it. I wanted to see what would happen to my digestive system
if I gave it a break, if I eliminated the constant snacking, if I fixed my metabolism,
and I challenged myself mentally and physically. So in this video, I'm going to walk you through
exactly what happened when I did a three-day full body total reset from the hunger on day one to the
amazing changes that I noticed in my body on day three, which most people would say
isn't even possible. So stick around to the end. But before we get started, I'm Dr. Nick Zyrowski.
Thanks for hanging out with me in today's video. It's always a pleasure to be here with you.

a friend who needs it. Now, I want to first talk about why I did this. When I did my first water
fast, my first total body reset, I did it because I was in college at the time and there was a
professor who owned and ran this fasting clinic. And they would have people come from around the
world and they would fast them for like 40 days at a time. And these people would have the most
awful autoimmune conditions and health conditions that nobody could solve for them. They'd been
suffering for five, 10, 15, 20 years and nobody was helping them. They'd come to this clinic,
do the fasting. And it was literally like seeing before and after pictures that seemed
almost impossible. They looked like miracles, right? And so me, I was struggling with my own
health. I had rashes. I had a lot of autoimmune flare-ups, tons of digestive issues. My energy
was bad. My brain fog was off the charts. Like it was actually sad how bad my brain fog was.
And I was looking for an answer. When I went to the doctors to try to find answers,
what they would do is they'd always want to prescribe a medication, a medication to help
my brain, a medication to help with rashes, a medication to help my migraine issues. Everything
always led to a medication and I didn't want it. I was like, not this guy. I'm going to try
something different. So this led me to fasting. Let's look at what happened during day one of
this total body reset because I did a total of three days. Now, day one was the hardest, okay?
And the reason it's the hardest is because it's more mental than anything, right? We are so
emotionally attached to food as humans. This is the major cause for overeating and obesity and
eating ultra processed foods. We're attached to these foods, right? We're emotionally attached
and we're driven to eat things that we shouldn't eat. So day one was the hardest just because of
the mental headspace that I was in. I wanted to eat. I would like walk up to the fridge,
look in and be like, yeah, I can't have that. Close the fridge, walk away. All right? So it
was a little bit of a struggle in just that way. But ultimately I knew that, well, if it's just a
mental struggle, I can overcome that, right? If it's more of a physical struggle or I'm
struggling with my health because I'm fasting and I'm in a bad place because of it, then I would
have to stop. But if it's just mental, I can get through that. Now, during day one, I still drank
tea. I still drank black coffee. And I did this in order to help give me a little pick me up
because I did notice that the fatigue was pretty bad. And as the day progressed, we got into the
shot. I just went to bed super early on day one of my fast. Now there's a lot of reasons this is
happening, okay? There's big changes happening in your body when you go into this fast, even on day
one. The first thing that happens is your body is going to burn through all the sugar stores in your
body. It's going to burn through that glycogen. And when you're burning through that glycogen,
your body then is going to really have to start looking for other fuel sources, which we'll talk
about in a second. But first we burn through the glycogen. We start to lose a lot of water weight.
So our body starts flushing a lot of water out. And this is where it becomes very important to
make sure that you're drinking a lot of water. It's very easy. I found that when you are not
eating, you also tend to not drink either. So you want to get a lot of water and you also want to
make sure that you're adding electrolytes in. One of the things I did not know when I first
started fasting is how important electrolytes are. You got to get the electrolytes in. They
help boost up your energy and they also are going to just help keep your body functioning well so
you're not hitting that level of fatigue and you're not getting headaches too. So boost your
electrolytes up. It's important too to make sure that you're not using an electrolyte that will
break your fast. I did this many times actually. I used electrolytes that I found out that had
meltodextrin in it. I used electrolytes that actually the biggest health influencers are
constantly promoting and they were breaking my fast unfortunately. You'll find a lot too that
have sweeteners and just things that you don't want while you're doing a multiple day fast.
So what I'll do is I'll actually put a link in the description to
the electrolyte that I use. The other thing that you're going to find that's happening on day one
is that your insulin lowers as well. This actually opens the gateway so you can start burning fat for
energy and then you have different hormones like growth hormone that start to skyrocket. When you
fast that's one of actually the beauties of it is growth hormone is going to skyrocket and it helps
heal and repair your body. As we age the healing and repairing starts to kind of dwindle down in
our body. So fasting will actually support that process of healing and repairing. And one of the
ways it does is through increasing your growth hormone, which ultimately also helps you feel
good. So that was my day one. Day one was just kind of a weird challenge for me, but overall
I made it through successfully. Day two came around. I slept good that night, day two hits,
and unfortunately I had a headache. Now I will tell you that I have since learned that the
majority of headaches that you have while you are fasting are coming from sugar withdrawals
and caffeine withdrawals. I did not know this the very first time I did this total body fasting
reset. And so since then, now I make sure I'm cutting out any type of like sugar consumption
and I'm also cutting out caffeine prior to going into the fast. However, once again,
you can add a little black coffee into if you want to get a little booster throughout your fast.
Totally okay. Totally acceptable. But getting a headache was a massive challenge for me because
my headaches easily progress into migraines. If you had migraines, you know, it's like the
worst pain you'll ever feel. Now the hunger disappeared on day two, which was great. So
like you didn't even have a need to eat. You didn't feel that you needed to go find food
anywhere. The hunger just disappeared. Everything was good. And also the mental game associated with
it totally disappeared. Now, remember the mental game is associated with the hunger aspect of it.
So they kind of go away together. Now, energy wasn't particularly great on day two, but it
also wasn't terrible. And one of the things I found to be very interesting is I had a lot of
extra time on my hands, right? I didn't realize how much time I spend throughout the day focused
around food, whether it's prepping food, finding food, cleaning up from a meal, sitting down and
having a meal with family or friends. I basically had all this extra time in my hands that was
kind of really weird, to be honest, but it was also cool because I was like, oh, I should actually
take this time and go focus on things that are important for me to accomplish, right?
So now that I'm in day two, basically I go into full ketosis, meaning that your body
burned through the glycogen, your insulin levels lowered, your blood sugar levels lowered. Everything
starts to kind of reach a balance in the body and then ketosis kicks in, meaning that your body
starts burning fat for energy. The fat on your body, the fat on your arms, the fat around your
belly, this is a excellent fuel source. And your body is 100% designed to actually live off the fat
on your body. When I see people who are overweight, I just tell them, you got a lot of extra energy on
your body. That is your fuel source. So therefore day two rolls in and your body goes into ketosis
and you start burning fat for energy, which is great for anybody who's trying to improve their
metabolism. It actually is really good for your brain. It's very healing. While you're in ketosis,
you're also going to find that because you're burning fat, you start to slim up pretty quick,
right? And who doesn't want that? And the good part too is when you're fasting, your body goes
into a muscle sparing mode, meaning that because our bodies are designed to fast for extended
periods of time, our bodies turn to the fat, but preserve the muscle, which is really cool,
okay? Because this is a way that you maintain lean muscle, which is important for longevity,
but get rid of the fat, the visceral fat and the fat around your belly that is going to lead to
metabolic instability and even disease. You're also going to find in day two, you go into autophagy.
You're gonna start breaking down damaged and unhealthy cells, maybe even cancerous cells,
breaking those cells down and utilizing them to make new healthy cells, which is incredible, okay?
This is very healing to the body, whether it's avoiding heart disease, cancer, or any other
health problem, autophagy is in your favor and one of the built-in natural healing powers that
our body has. You're also going to get an increase in something called brain-derived
neurotrophic factor, which is very healing to the brain, but it also makes your brain feel
really good, helps increase mental focus and mental clarity. And so therefore, on day two,
you're getting this massive metabolic shift. You're getting this massive metabolic reset.
Now, I also would highlight that during this time, it's important to keep cortisol low, okay? So we
can keep cortisol low by making sure that we're not encountering a lot of stress during our fast.
You can go for a walk. What I like to do is I like to go for walks. I like to get sunshine on my skin.
I like to be in the peace of nature because I know that that's going to help calm me down,
okay? So keep your cortisol low. You can even do some deep breathing exercises. I like to do box
breathing and this essentially is how I got through day two, okay? Day two, like I said,
energy was not great, not the worst, but also I pushed the electrolytes. I kept drinking lots
of water and just worked to overcome that headache, which wasn't great, okay?
Now, day three rolls around and unfortunately, between day two and day three, I did not sleep
well during this reset, okay? What you'll find is that when your body is going through massive
change like that, sometimes it will disrupt your sleep and it certainly did for me. But the good
part was is that despite that, day three, I woke up and I had tons of energy. I felt so good. My
focus was so good. I wasn't hungry. I felt lighter. I looked at myself in the mirror and I'm like,
I've lost a lot of fat. I looked better, okay? My bloating was gone. My pain in the body had
dramatically decreased, okay? And I always have some sort of joint pain going on and most of us
do. And so the pain has just literally wiped away at this point in time. Now, there's a lot of good
reasons for this, right? The autophagy, we're basically shifting our metabolism to ketosis,
which is very healing. We're upregulating that BDNF in the brain, which is very healing to the
brain. Now, also during this time on day three, there's some other really important changes that
start to happen. You start to get an immune system reset, okay? The white blood cells start to become
recycled in our body and then our immune system starts to reset. So if you're dealing with some
autoimmune flare-ups or autoimmune challenges or skin rashes or whatever it was, these things start
to go away. This was something that actually happened to me. Now, the other thing that's
going to happen during day three is that your gut lining is going to start to be rehabbed, okay?
You're going to find that your gut health is really shaping up to be so much better.
Your microbiome is balancing. And when I say your microbiome, I'm talking about the environment
inside your gut, the bacteria, the yeast, the pathogenic bacteria. All of this stuff starts to
reset and balance out, meaning that we're starting to have all this yeast die down in the gut.
We're starting to have the good bacteria do their job and start to heal. It's a total microbiome
reset, which is why so many people, when they come off a fast, they feel that their digestion is so
much better. Between the gut lining and the microbiome, it's a different world. Your detox
capacity is also going to improve. Your liver is functioning at peak capacity. You have to realize
that when you are doing this total body reset, your body is just looking inward for healing.
It is looking inward for energy production. Your body is going through this whole process
where you're not spending your energy digesting food. You're spending your energy healing,
which is really awesome, okay? And then that was day three. And here's the thing that's so
interesting about day three is that I felt so good on day three that I was like, well,
I should just go into day four and day five, right? Why not? However, I had only mentally
prepared myself for a three-day fast. So I stuck to the three days because I was very happy with
the results so far. And I was like, well, I really want to focus on breaking my fast and doing that
and just looking at what this three-day water fast did for me, okay? This three-day total body reset.
So here's the results that I had gotten. So I found that my rashes went away, which was awesome.
Multiple rashes on my skin, all gone. I found that my eyes were much whiter and just brighter
looking. I had lost around six pounds during this time. I found that my gut health dramatically
improved. I found that my pain and some different aches that I had that were kind of becoming like
a chronic issue, they went away, which was awesome. I found that my energy was so much
better coming out of the fast. I also found that my diet was able to be improved dramatically
because a lot of the different unhealthy foods and bad habits that I was more or less addicted to,
I was able to break free of those during that time. So when I came off the fast,
when you go from eating nothing for three days to eating a good, healthy, clean diet,
focused on meat, vegetables, and fats and fruits, I found that that was a very easy diet to follow
because I no longer had sugar cravings and caffeine cravings and all these different
struggles that I had before. I didn't have the problem of over-consuming calories all the time.
There was a really big shift in my mental health. I was in a much more positive mood.
Like I felt so positive coming out of that fast that it made me look back. I was like,
I was really literally depressed before I did this. And so I just had this total body reset
that was life-changing. I think that everybody should go through this process. When I work with
people clinically, we do so many things in order to help someone improve their health.
When I talk about longevity, when we do these different therapies and I give a lot of advice,
there's so many things that we can do to improve our health and we should do that really takes an
investment into us, in our health and our wellbeing. The thing that's so amazing about
doing a fast is that it costs you nothing. It literally is something that's free that you can do
for your health. And so what I found is that in the perfect world, I would like to do this
about every couple of months. And if I do it every couple of months, I maintain those results,
even once a month, if I could. And then if I do this, I get this massive health boost every month
or every other month. And it just helps keep me on the right track, keep me on the right track with
my health and overcoming health challenges, but also making sure that I'm really following a good
healthy diet. Now, when I broke my fast, because I did this three-day body reset,
no food, then it came time to break my fast. Here's what I did. I focused on probiotic-rich
foods because gut health was a big priority of solving some of the issues I was having there.
I was dealing with some autoimmune problems. So it all comes back to the gut. So lots of
probiotic-rich foods. I did sauerkraut, which was going to be fermented sauerkraut. I did pickles,
which were fermented. I also did some cheese, which is going to also have different probiotics
so lots of probiotic-rich foods. And then I also did bone broth. And I even did a bone broth stew,
like a bone broth beef stew, because the bone broth is very healing for the gut. It's also
very nourishing. And when you come off your fast, you don't want to be eating, of course,
junk food. You don't want to be eating pizzas and stuff like that. So you really want to be
focusing on good, healthy, clean foods, but you also want to make sure that you're eating foods
that are easy for your digestive system to tolerate. So first, we don't want to just crush
ourselves with a giant meal because we haven't eaten in three days. But what I did is I had this
bone broth stew, which is going to have lots of vegetables in it. It's going to have proteins in
it. It's going to have the fats from the bone broth. And the best part is that those vegetables
are going to be easy to break down for my digestive system because they were in a soup.
So therefore, whenever we eat initially coming out of the fast, we want to eat things that are
very easy on our digestion. And of course, things that maintain that same metabolic standard that we
just established in the body. So if we start putting in sugar and we start putting in a bunch
of carbs, we just blew the whole metabolic reset. If we make sure that we come out of that fast and
we're eating more keto-like, we're maintaining that good, healthy standard for our metabolism.
And then this continues the weight loss there on out, and it continues the results as well.
And then from there, like I said, progress into a good, healthy diet. And if you're confused about
what to do for a good, healthy diet, think meat, fats, vegetables, and good, healthy fruits.
And if you do that, you not only solve every dietary argument out there that exists about how
to eat healthy, but you also are going to solve a ton of health problems and most health problems
that exist in the world today, just by eating a diet that focuses on those core food groups.
So this is how I reset my body. I'd love to hear your story in the comments below,
if you've done a three-day water fast and what your results were. I'm Dr. Nick Zyrowski. Thanks
